Ukraine crisis: NATO reinforces its eastern flank | DW News

  • Dialog and deterrence in the Ukraine crisis: This week kicked off with high-level meetings in Kyiv, Moscow, Washington and Berlin - a flurry of talks that has kept hopes of a diplomatic solution alive.
But Eastern European countries, who feel most acutely threatened by Russia's military build-up, are not relying on discussions and the threat of sanctions to protect them. They've requested additional military support.
The US has responded by sending extra soldiers to NATO members Poland and Romania. The US is sending two-thousand additional troops in total. Further north, Lithuania hopes it can persuade the US to permanently station troops there - instead of rotating troops as it does now. Along with the US, European NATO members have also been boosting their support of the alliance's eastern flank.

Do people realize how much this is costing! There is always money for war, never enough to feed and heat the homes of the people paying for war.

Remember, journalist, and logistics specialist always put a price tag on these maneuvers but in reality it doesn't cost countries like US & Russia anything. US and Russia keep massive strategic stock piles of fuel, arms, etc. that is why we carry out military drills to burn up old stockpiles.

Mr. Putin has built some high technology weapon systems and tanks in recent years. I wonder if the people are happy with him spending their money on such war systems. For me when Mr. Putin doesn’t get his own way he reacts with violence just like he did in 2014.

@@imerupp It does cost money, I'm not sure where you are getting that. Everyone country keeps a stock pile it's just US and Russia have one of the biggest as they are super powers. Military drills are used to project military power. Lots of countries do it and still keep their old stockpiles.

Germans are very good at speaking around direct questions about weapons deliveries without really answering. There's a reason they don't want to be seen as arming Ukrainians...I just don't know if they are good reasons, because "peace good, war bad" is not a valid response while we are dealing with a direct aggression against an ally. Yes, peace is wonderful, but what do you want to do about the giant army in a position to invade within hours? "peace is good, war is bad..." sigh...ok then, auf Wiedersehen I guess.

Because Germans know Ukraine can't get Crimea back. Yet they have a military policy of taking it back. So letting Ukraine joining NATO means starting a war with Russia. For me a Ukraine Russia war is better than a NATO Russia war

Because everyone thinks this is a problem of Ukraine and not related to it. Putin establishes a huge military base in Belarus and will advance with an army to the Polish border via Ukraine, this would already be a problem for the Germans as well.

And if you're European? You speak only for yourself and no other European. Only you. The truth is, that we Europeans and British, only see the USA as the world's global terrorist, today. And regardless of our own Washington puppet governments today, the people of Europe, including the UK, want nothing to do with the USA at all.
And should any of our own governments even think of trying to back the USA up, in any oncoming war?, well, you can be 100% sure that would see every European country fall into all-out civil wars, before any of us would ever allow that to happen.
The Irony, of course, is?, that we'd all fight against the USA today?. As we'd all be, once again, on the right side of history, fighting US tyranny for our own freedom, as otherwise we might as well be asking when will it be our turn?.

    • @stevewing6851
      @stevewing6851 2 года назад +2

Seemingly these Americans have no idea the F-22 and F-35 can't see, track, or target any other stealth aircraft from BVR (beyond visual range). Stealth alone defeats high-frequency (short wave) radar by absorption and deflection, it does not defeat low-frequency (long wave) radar. Therefore, to see, track, and target stealth aircraft you must have long-wave radar, but it must also be enhanced to remove all background clutter for targeting purposes.
Neither the APG-77 radar used in the F-22, nor the APG-81 radar used in the F-35, can see any other stealth aircraft from BVR (without enhanced long wave radar) - This fact the US Air force obviously know! Only it seems the reality is, that when the F-35 radars were being designed 13 years ago, there were no other stealth aircraft to think about as a potential threat? So how can these US aircraft be seen as any sort of threat to either China or Russia, who both have these aircraft technically beaten? They can see and target US jets from BVR, yet the US jets can't even see them from BVR?
Russia's new 5th generation Byelka (2band) radar, used in SU-57, does have enhanced long-wave radar, they've designed and developed the first L-Band fighter radar we've ever seen. They've cleverly embedded L-band AESA radars in the leading edges of the wings. The new L-band AESA radar data gets processed in real time through extremely powerful Russian Elbrus computers being significantly enhanced removing all clutter, meaning it can see, track, target, and engage enemy stealth aircraft from BVR.
They can also interact in ''real-time'' with each other member of the squadron, auto selecting the best placed BVR missile, that can be fired by anyone of them with a target on radar, they can also take control of surface-to-air (SAM) missile defence systems - (that alone is lethal), and they can see track, enemy stealth fighter aircraft long before Russian airspace, from much greater distances, with "real-time" data from massive Russian ground long wave stations (that are all protected today with the networked S-400 defensive system).
Therefore, as they'll always know where the enemy aircraft are, they'll always be able to approach any enemy aircraft head on, and therefore stealthily, (Russia wisely sacrificed rear end stealth for much better manoeuvrability) meaning today, the US fighter jets would not even be able to see them coming!! Russia's Byelka (2band) radar covers all aspects of frequencies across all channels, that are used for tracking, targetting, and also jamming. It's part of Sh121 multifunctional integrated radio electronic system (MIRES) on board the SU-57.
Russia tested much of this new radar suit on the SU-35, so they also have the option of fitting this radar into SU-35's permanently, meaning Russia's SU-35S flanker will be at no disadvantage with F-22/35. As although the SU-35 can be seen and targeted from BVR, the SU-35 with the new 5th gen radar is as able to see and target the US jets from BVR, seeing the all-important Russian advantage in BVR missile distance, plus the excellent manoeuvring, neither the F-22/35 have, as more than critical, if you're going to avoid simply being blown out of the sky.

In today's world of hi-tech Anti-Ship ballistic missiles, like the Chinese DF-21D - operational range (1700 km's) that can sink any carrier in the world with a single hit. All Navies without the ability to stop these missiles are completely obsolete today.

Russia's Zircon Anti-Ship missile though inferior in way of operational range-400kms it can be fired from Aircraft, Subs, and Ships making it deadly to any carrier in the world. Russia also has the Brahmos and the P-800 Oniks Anti-Ship missiles.
We know the USA hasn't got a destroyer that can defend against these missiles today? Making all the USA's Navy obsolete in today's world. Don't think so?
Then let's look at the distances the US jets can travel? It's about 500-650 (max) km's out - and the same back again = 1300 km's range. So how can the US deploy any carrier close enough to reach any inland target, and then get back again? They can't, anywhere inside 1700 km's they're sunk, they're toast, they're history.
So today, the real facts are very clear, the USA has no capability to attack any militarily capable country who have these modern hi-tech Anti-Ship ballistic missiles in their defensive armoury.
These are the real facts today. Whether you think so or not?, Is irrelevant, because If the risk outweighs any potential reward, gain, or result = obsolete. The USA has nothing that can stop those missiles today, and China's DF-21D is a carrier killer. A manoeuvrable Ballistic missile hurtling at your carrier. You're doomed!

    • @stevewing6851
      @stevewing6851 2 года назад +2

You want to take on Russia? Hahahaha really? I mean seriously, what do we know? We know Russia is supremely confident they do have the ability to bring down all USA ICBM's, while we all know the USA has no defence against even the older Soviet ICBM's, let alone the modern lethal ones like Sarmat, carrying up to 24 MERVS, over speeds of Mach 20.7; 4.3 miles per second; 15,480 miles per hour.
And because we saw the USA pull out of the nuclear arms treaty, (that prohibited the creation of any short-mid range nuclear weapons)?, today, now sees even the old defensive threat of "MAD", as an obsolete defensive threat today. As Russia has already created those missiles, and done so creating, hypersonic mid-range missiles, able to carry Nuclear tipped warheads, or full nuclear warheads, travelling at speeds not seen before, being able to strike and hit all US defensive stations and platforms, along with all US nuclear silos, and destroy them all within minutes, long before the US could even begin to think about any sort of retaliatory launch.
Plus, with the networked S-400 anti-air defences used by Russia today, protecting the S-500 anti-ballistic missile defence systems, able to operate alongside Russia's new A-235 anti-ballistic missile system, with the ability to shoot down hypersonic attack weapons, hypersonic orbital platforms, ballistic missiles, and their combat units, as well as satellites in near space, ICBM's of the USA can be tracked and shot down quite easily by Russia today. Any Nuclear effort from the USA today?, would see them lose, and lose big time.
Any conventional War against Russia? They quite simply lose, that's not even up for debate, they could try to land 250,000 troops, and they'd all simply be chewed up and spat out, so where the American see Russia losing? Only God knows, as everything says otherwise. The USA has never met a fully militarily capable country! Russia is the biggest test of them all. You know, Russia is about 960 times bigger than Kuwait?. When the USA invaded Kuwait against Iraq, the USA deployed 750,000 troops. How many troops do you think they'd need to attack and invade Russia? LOLOLOLOL
Fighter Jets = Russia own the sky. Both the F-22 and F-35 are blind to all other stealth aircraft from BVR, as they don't have/lack any Long wave radar, It seems that when the F-35 radars were being designed 13 years ago, there were no other stealth aircraft to think about as a threat.
Tanks = Russia own the ground. Can't even begin to argue.
Soldiers = Russian troops with reserves outnumber the USA enormously. And again, what have we ever seen from any US troops, that could make anyone think they'd be any sort of match for the Russian well-trained troops? Who are prepared to fight and die for their country, who will be fighting for all the right reasons? While US troops will only be fighting for US tyranny?
All through history in wars, you'll find the countries fighting for all the right reasons, like their own freedom? Have never lost, but have always won, yet those who fought for global control/tyranny, have all not only lost, but all have been annihilated. We see this in every war, nothing will change this time, only the annihilation might be much more severe, but just as deserved.
Electronic Warfare = the USA must be at least a decade behind Russia. Everything we've seen and know, shows this very clearly.
Navy = American carriers are of no use today against any militarily capable country armed with today's modern ASM's. In today's world of hi-tech Anti-Ship ballistic missiles, like the DF-21D operational range (1700kms), that can sink any US carrier in the world with a single hit, means all Navy's without the ability or defence to stop these missiles, are completely obsolete today. Russia's Zircon Anti-Ship missile, though inferior in way of operational range (400kms) it can be fired from Aircraft, Subs, and Ships making it deadly to any Carrier in the world.
Missiles = Russian missiles rule the world today, with her modern hi-tech missiles and targeting systems. Russian GLONASS, GPS, give Russia such incredible precision, the USA has nothing to compare.
In Syria, Russian (long range) missiles are at a 100% success rate! That's unprecedented, no country has ever been over a 40% strike rate before, and that was only achieved with minimal missile usage, most have only managed 20-30% with missiles before.
As we've all witnessed, Russia was pinpoint accurate from distances as far away as 6500 km. Russia has also provided clear, precise footage of all her long range missile attacks in Syria, (that we can see all came from the Russian control room online).
Hypersonic missiles?, the USA can't defend against?, yet Russia can?, and Russia does already have lethal hypersonic missiles already in her arsenal.
Personally in any coming war? I give the USA precisely zero chance, none, not even a little snippet of a chance, annihilation is all they'll get. And being even more honest?, quite deservedly so!
It is clear to us that we have to defend our interests, and to do so consistently, not boorishly or rudely, in both the sphere of the economy and of defence. The pressure will only end when the USA will be “persuaded” that the methods they are using are ineffective, counterproductive, and harmful to all ~ Vladimir Putin, 2014.
It never fails to amaze me the way our partners the US, (as we say in Russia) Stand on the same rake twice.~ Vladimir Putin, 2016.
The United States must “Rise above their endless desire to dominate” ~ Vladimir Putin, 2018.
For the first time in all the history of nuclear weaponry, including the Soviet period, we aren’t playing catch-up with anyone. Other states have yet to create the weapons that Russia already has, ~ Vladimir Putin, 2020.

I reckon by 2023 (if the US is still around), we'll see the US roll out her new (deep lavender, with light purple polka dots) battle tanks. They'll roll out their new 5th generation, (bright pink with sky-blue undertones) fighter aircraft, with, (luminous peach, polka dots) only added to her carrier based aircraft.
They'll proudly show the whole world their new huge, enormous, unmissable target, the (soft lilac) Aircraft Carrier - USS Barack Obama, with a very special (rainbow coloured landing deck).
The Rainbow will also be the new flag/ensign of the US military (Army, Navy, & Air force). - All personnel, from Cadet through to top officers, will all be required to always carry a silk rainbow handkerchief. (especially in hostile areas), for dabbing away the fear tear. LOL. It makes good sense, man!
As, we did see an American Captain in tears when arrested In Iranian waters?, we saw him with his entire crew, all sitting cross-legged on a carpet, crying with snot hanging from their noses, (they were all eating cakes and drinking fizzy pop), while crying like brats, then they just hand over their passwords, laptops, and phones, openly allowing the Iranian's to access all of their military information? Ha!
And the USA wants to take on the North Korea's, Russia's, Iran's, and China's, of this world, four highly armed and very well-defended countries, with Armies of millions of men, all fully bled, trained, and prepared to fight and die for their countries, that completely outnumber the USA by millions??? Oh, SURE!! LOLOL

@@JG-mp5nb Just in case, the russian imperial navy was mostly built in dockyards of New York. So Czar wouldn't recognize it. Back then the relations between USA and Russian Empire were very good.

@@burkanov Actually, they were made on the Clyde River in Britain, the USN at that time was second fiddle to both French and German navies. The ships to have were based on British designs and built in British shipyards. Much of what Imperial Russia had was seriously Ill maintained and corresponded to sending hotels to war, such was the decadence of the Russian General Staff.
A country whose leaders were all relatives or had purchased their rank from the Czar. The Russo -Japanese War, dispelled any notion of Russian naval superiority, and WW1 polished off any chance of Russian equivalence with its competitors.
Today is no different. Russia struggles to contain Georgian and Chechnya’s forces, showing that it can eventually beat a tiny but belligerent nation today. The Finn’s further demonstrated Russian ineptitude.
Still, Putin shows it’s still possible to strangle your own population the KGB way. The Czar would be proud.

Exactly. Why holding a U.S flag and protesting in front of the U.S embassy as if we have anything to do with it? lmao.
