My favorite YT channel. Can't wait for more videos on the beast. Realize that you are blessed to get the chance to drive all these tractors we dreamed of as farm kids.
You basically won the power ball. Not only is it a Versatile, you got the 855 instead of a 903. That's a 20000 hour tractor. Constructed from a truck engine, truck clutch and truck axles. The only thing that might be hard to get parts for is the transmission. Congratulations!
Don Killion was the Versatile dealer in Great Falls Montana for years and I remember when I was a kid him telling my dad (his best friend) that the 903 was the most trouble free motor they sold...855 is a great engine, but so is the 903.
Glad to see the big Versatile wake up from its nap without any major issues. My uncle had a 555, which didn’t have a great reputation, was around the same size as the 1800, 1805. He never had an issue with his, but didn’t pull the guts out of it either. The 895 should be a great tractor for you. Bigger than what you need, but priced right and you’re not going to work it hard. Big difference between the big Cummins and the 3208 cats. The 895 will just pull like a mule. Can’t wait to see it shined up. Thanks for the Videos, JT.
... Engine-Oil change is obviously recommended ... that soup on the checking-lever was the deepest black ... but anyway , what a BEAUTY ‼ Grets from Germany
Great buy!! Pull the pump and compressor get the governor in the pump set up for tractor leave compressor off and reinstall pump. Those pumps are easy!
Nice score! I love my 895, it is a torque monster. I pull a 40 foot cultivator with mine and you can gear up and idle down and it will hold 1800 rpm no problem. Plus it sips fuel doing that. One word of advice, don't be scared to man handle that gear shift, put it into gear with authority so you don't end up getting caught between gears. Trying to gently put it into gear is when that will happen. Then you have to go under the cab and pop it back into neutral with a bar which could be a pain to do. What I always do is for example if I want to go into second I will drop down part ways into first then give it a good hard push up into second. I've never had the problem of it getting caught between gears ever since I started doing it like that. Enjoy the new toy!
Love the old school Versatile. We had a 850 on singles that I ran. When changing gears especially reverse to second let out on the clutch and verify neutral before changing gears. Ours would get stuck in both and wouldn’t move. Takes a little 4 pound hammer action on the linkage underneath to pop it free. Anyway it’s an awesome tractor.
I think I enjoy the tractors that start right away after sitting for years !! I damn sure enjoyed the ride along. JT your channel is number 1 in my book . Thanks for the effort you put in.
Watching this, both of your schoolboy excitement comes through and makes it a very fun and enjoyable video. Makes a huge difference to many of the boring will it start type videos where everyone’s to dull and serious from doing it so many times before. Love it.
We had an 1979 875, awesome unit with the 855 Cummins. Previously we had a 1973 Versatile 905 I think it was that had the V8 903 Cummins. The 855 had a fair bit more torque and was easier on fuel. I think the 875 was all off the shelf truck parts except for the planetary reduction at both ends of each axle. We had a big 15’ wide breaking disc plow with 36” blades and it pulled it well. One of the neighbours had a bigger John Deere and took the plow do break a field and the John Deere didn’t pull it near as well. It was crabbed when travelling and couldn’t handle the side thrust. Awesome unit and amazing plowing snow in the winter.
Case was the quietest cab in the 80’s, versatile was a close second. John Deere had much to be desired for quietness in their old birdcage cab but they did tend to last longer than an old case. Versatile made one hell of a good tractor back then and there’s 1000’s of them still around
JT, it amazes me that these monsters can sit for years and fire right up. Don’t make them now like they use to. You’ll never run out of projects on the farm. Good luck on you bring her back to life again. KEEP ON FARMIN! 🤜🤛

Anyway all items that can be fixed . Great video J T ~
JT, you are the king of the "easy" will-it-start! You earned a few after $2500 spent to harvest 6 acres with the 6600. Lol. Love that Versy. Along with the new dumper, gonna make a great paint series!

They still run those Versatiles down here by me. Still doing tillage like they were built for! Steigers pretty much disappeared and still see an occasional White. Great vid!
Congratulations on the Versatile! She’ll make you a great tractor. Yeah that compressor was coming through the video loud and clear. lol that turbo two precleaner needs some of your attention, along the intake stack straightened up a little. The engine sounds pretty good. Great score!

Nice score JT on that 895. Properly looked after one of those tractors may outlast your farming career. Antifreeze maintenance was important for those engines to live long lives. Obviously someone gave it a transplant along the way. That injection pump most likely not correct for an ag tractor. Take picture of engine serial plate to cummins shop see what you have.

Nothing cooler than the versatile color scheme. All of my versatiles are from the mid seventies, but I’m ready to move into the eighties. There’s a ball on the floor shifter that can get a flat spot and makes it hard to shift, at least that’s what my older ones have. Awesome tractor.
