When I was a kid in the 80s, there was an HBO special at Rodney Dangerfield's comedy club. This exact performance was one of them. This is the only place I've ever seen or heard of this guy. We had it recorded on VHS.
Schimmel is one of the best ever imo. One of my favs along with Hicks, Carlin, Hedberg & Louis ck. There was never a lot of material or footage of him available, but there were 3 specials: first was Guilty as charged (30 minutes), next was Unprotected (60 minutes), and finally, after battling cancer a while, came Life since then (60 minutes). I think there are clips from at least Unprotected, on youtube. There might be some from the others too. They were all good but the 2 longer ones were better than the other one.
Also, somewhere around the time of guilty as charged he did a special called hardcore in the big apple at Eileen's. In my opinion it's the funniest one.
Robert schimmel was one of my favorites. He passed back in 2009. He died in a car crash while his daughter was driving.. It's funny.. He had a bit about how terrible of a driver she was.
Yeah, the dude is an underground legend. He has been a writer and actor on a few different things. His special “Unprotected” is amazing. I’d highly recommend it.
He had 2 big specials and 1 that was more biographical. He died when he was a passenger in his daughter's car, after he was in remission from cancer. Quite a tragic life.

I saw Robert about 3 months before he died in Baltimore. He was hilarious. He stayed after the show and talked about surviving cancer. Great comic,
