    Shawn, I love the Roky tribute recording, ''Where The Pyramid Meets The Eye'' circa 1990. The ZZ Top track and the Julian Cope track are two highlights.

      That tribute album is great. Lots of fun. And you sense that it was done with lots of love for the man. Indeed, the ZZ Top track is great. Primal Scream and Jesus and Mary Chain did a great job too. Hey, thanks for watching. Cheers, Shawn.

    Hey Shawn. Love Roky and been a long time fan of the elevators still grinding my way through finding originals of those records. I saw Roky in about 2007 when he made that new album and toured with the members of Okkervil River. His voice was still powerful as you said. His Aliens records I've been a little so so but his more well-known songs I really dig especially Two Headed Dog. Also "May the Circle Be Unbroken" from Bull Of The Woods may be his greatest accomplishment. So haunting and beautiful. Be well!

      I should have mentioned more about Bull in the video. Its an excellent album and gets overshadowed by the first two. Bull is missing from my collection right now. I had a pretty beaten up copy that just didn’t sound good. G or G plus. And I was able it to finance a Telectu album that I was interested in getting. Btw I sold my G-plus copy of the Stooges first pressing to finance a few other Telectu albums. I figure, Why not? If the album is not a pleasant listening experience, I would rather sell. That’s awesome you saw Roky. I passed on seeing him on his last tour. Big regret. The reissues of the first two 13 Floor Elevators are very nice. So good that I think I’ll give up the hunt. But probably not. Lol. Hey…thanks for watching. 🍻 Shawn

    I love Roky & the Elevators. A long time ago I splashed out on the Music Of The Spheres box set. It has all the albums mono & stereo, a live album, b-sides disc, an EP, the Headstone Contact sessions (mind blowing!), lenticular cover, all sorts of other ephemera and of course a book. I've got 4 of his solo records backed by several bands, as well as the great kinda comeback record where he was backed by Okkervil River & the doco on DVD. I was very lucky to see him live maybe 10 years ago at the Golden Plains Festival. He was an amazing artist that was treated so poorly & unappreciated for a long time. Great of you to sign a light on him. Cheers...Ben

      I knew you would get this video; my heart is filled with emotion when I think about what a singularly brilliant artist Roky was during his time with us. Maybe he didn't "get rich" or become a rock star. so what?The man recording two of the greatest albums of the original psychedelic era. His legacy was confirmed right there as far as I am concerned. Just with he hadn't always been forced to struggle in life. Thank goodness there were some people like Stu Cook, Billy Gibbons, Henry Rollins and King King Coffey that stood with Roky and helped him survive artistically and financially. Those musicians restore my faith in people. It's amazing that you have the chance to see the man himself. Unfortunately, I passed on an opportunity during his last tour. I will always regret that. Thanks, Ben! Cheers.

      @@the-vinyl-dreamscape5084 I think it was Rollins who paid for Roky to get his teeth fixed if I’m remembering right.

    Shawn, I love Roky & the Elevators. I have many of his albums, but did not know about the Light In The Attic reissue series. They really seem good, based upon your description of gathering and compiling various releases. Thanks, Chris

      Hey Christopher. The reissues on Light in the Attic did a really great service gathering together a somewhat complicated discography. I remember trying to hunt down stray tracks back in the CD days. I was obsessed with the song, Burn the Flames. And would always put the song on cassette compilation I made for girlfriends. Well…usually girls I wanted to be my girlfriend. Lol. Roky didn’t always licensed his material in a straight forward manner. To say the least. Likely out of desperation for cash. Iggy and the Stooges did much the same thing later in their career. It’s understandable that they just wanted to get paid by someone. Anyone! Lol. Discovering Roky’s catalog was a lot of fun during those teenage years. Cream magazine was about the only periodical that would report regularly on the Aliens at the time. They primarily focused on punk, new wave and power pop but embraced anyone with ties to the psychedelic or garage scene of the 60s. Till later, Shawn.

    I really liked his music with the Aliens and some of the far out songs that he was writing. Did not know that about The Aliens name though.

      Roky was an amazing force to be reckoned with. One of my biggest regrets is not seeing him live. I had the opportunity on his last tour and took a pass. I also regret getting his CDs when I could have easily grabbed the original vinyl. Oh well. Thanks for watching, Steve. Appreciate your support. Thanks. Shawn.

    Hi Shawn. What year is your reissue of their first album? There’s 16 pressings of that album on discogs. I’d like to pick one up. OG is ungodly expensive! Thanks for sharing.

    • @the-vinyl-dreamscape5084
      @the-vinyl-dreamscape5084  8 месяцев назад

      The OG has gone through the roof. Wish I had gotten one years ago. The double 180-gram heavyweight vinyl edition of The 13th Floor Elevators' debut album from 1966 is a new remastered mono mixes plus the original stereo mix. Supposedly it’s the first vinyl reissue in four decades sourced from the original tapes (for the stereo version). It’s on the Charly/ International Artist label from 2022. It’s currently like $50/60 on Amazon. But I’m sure you could do better than that on Discog. Really nice sleeves and it sounds great to me. Happy hunting. Shawn

    This is an artist I’m not too familiar with as psychedelic and garage are two of the genres I’m not as attracted to. I think I really first heard him when he sang on a Mogwai single back in 2008/2009. Love that song. I’ve never heard the original but (I’m a broken record) Mark Lanegan did a fantastic version of the song some years ago. I’m sure it’s on RUclips if you haven’t heard it before.

      Hi Roy. That's interesting what you about the Mogwai single; I'm listening to the track right now. Devil Rides sounds great! I can image our man Lanegan doing the track too. But anything Mark touched turned to gold; he does a wonderful cover of the Skip Spencer song Cripple Creek. Be nice if they gathered all these stray tracks together on a comp. I'm always amazed that more people aren't familiar with Lanegan. He was involved in so many popular projects; Queens of the Stone Age, Mad Season, Screaming Trees...yet his name is unfamiliar to many. Thanks for watching. Be well, Shawn.

      @@the-vinyl-dreamscape5084 Yeah I have a (digitalm obviously) playlist of his stray stuff and it's well over a 100 tracks. Man was prolific. I think I'm finally ready to commit to the threat of making a video on Lanegan.... Also my name is not Roy lol :) I'm Thijs (pronounced Tice).
