Love these highlights from the vaults; thanks for uploading! The tradeoff is that the commentary is comically/tragically clipped so you're constantly tantalized by half observations that Mary and Tim(?) start to make.
@@scottsterry8119 I preffer to win and to know how to be allaround player. Tennis is not just one type of play. Best ever players were great in everything.
Yet another shot in McEnroe's amazing, extensive repertoire of shots in his beautiful tennis game was on display in this match at the 1987 U.S. Open against Matt Anger - the topspin backhand lob - an underutilized shot by McEnroe overall in his career - although he did hit it at least once in a match at the French Open and also in a 1984 U.S. Open match against Gene Mayer! Also noticeable in the second set of this match was an example just how extensively the graphite rackets cheapened the game of tennis on the point in which Matt Anger hit a very good, deep, crosscourt volley and McEnroe hit a compact, blocking, forehand half-volley winner down the line with pace! That shot would be impossible with a small-headed wood or metal racket which could not generate sufficient power on such a short half-volley swing to hit that winner!
Always admired McEnroe's unusual touch volley game. But I never liked his histrionics all in order to motivate himself. Showed a lack of character imho.
Thank you for paying attention to the subscribers again and uploading a complete game.
McEnroe VS Anger seems to be very appropriate.
yeah, toss a few close calls in there and it woulda been john Anger vs Matt Anger.

Gottta love some serve and volley tennis by the both of them! Those were the days where there were indeed multiple styles of tennis
Tennis as it was meant to be played.
@@patoconnor9600 More offense back then, than defense. That’s the way I prefer my tennis.

The Left serve of John McEnroe was very sweet in the 1980s.
He sure knew how to play Tennis at a Pro level.
That FH flick DTL midway through tho. I got to meet him a couple times and thankfully have a signed poster-sized blowup of him winning GTE '90.
John is so much slower than in 1984 85

The farts in the crowd here can’t be bothered to even applaud a great shot.
I remember, back in the early 80s, Matt Anger was featured in Boys Life magazine; you’d have thought he was the second coming😆
Matt Anger just retired from being head coach at UW, end of an era
This is the first time I hear and watch Matt Anger, he played some great points and unlike John Matt showed some sings of a modern game.
Matt had a good, all around game.
What racquet is McEnroe playing with here...Round 1 US Open 1987??
I don't know much about Matt Anger but he's seems to be a decent S&V player.
Don't look back in Anger, I heard her say
McEnroe was very good at Wimbledon and the US Open in the cool and mad 1980s.
Did John get angry at Anger?
Is he really angry? Or is that the way his name is really pronounced? I have a hunch it should be a soft G in Anger. Who knows.
Mac played great here, only to get smoked by Haarhuis or Hlasek (don't recall) in round 2. dammit.
lost to lendl in qtrs
@@leecodd6857 ahhh, I'm thinking of '89 when he was seeded 4th. Lost to Haarhuis.
What was the scoreline.
6-3 6-2 6-2
Hopefully John’s opponent didn’t anger him, 🤣😂😅🤭🫢
John played with anger 😠

Matt was cute.
I look forward to become a tennis Pro in 2023,
You’d be better off looking forward to something which could actually happen.
Judy Carrillo has to be the most annoying announcer ever. I mean ever.
Never heard of this guy..very 1 dimensional player. No wonder he faded away...
This match was boring as hell
