@ 11:44 They are teaching to stem inside on those outs so you put the DB on his inside foot worried about the slugo over the top in the rz so that is a good inside step before the outside break. Man talking about that zone, when you are seeing the ball a lot you start to see it earlier, pick it up faster, and you can adjust that much more quickly so balls that you might drop if your cold you end up catching.

Great breakdown. Love seeing Steve go in-depth.
I will say I was a bit thrown off by him saying only one guy eats when Stafford throws the ball. I disagree with that. When Stafford does have the one-two punches, both guys eat. Megatron and Tate, Tate and Jones, Kupp and Woods, Kupp and OBJ. It's just that when he's down to one main guy, he'll feed that guy.
There have been times in his career where he's only had one guy. 2013 for example. Burleson went down, Titus Young was off the team, Ryan Broyles went down. It was a mess.
He had a similar situation happen again in the 2021 SB run. Woods got hurt, Atwell was hurt, DeSean Jackson wanted out. So of course he was going to focus on feeding Kupp. But even though OBJ was new to the offense, Stafford made sure to get him involved from the first week he got there fresh off the plane, and they integrated him in more and more as the season went on.
but at the end of the day, I'm just a Stafford fan. I don't know all the Xs and Os or have access to the game film, so I might be missing a lot of something here.
But other than that, I'm definitely with Steve here. I think Kupp will be more than happy to take on the supporting role if and when his leg heals up. Puca is in the spotlight, and I think he'll continue to get plenty of balls thrown his way from Stafford regardless.

Puka is a football SPONGE. As soon as he got to camp he made it clear he wanted to be great and Cooper Kupp took him under his wing, teaching him every route and how to gain Staffords trust. I watched a lot of camp footage and Stafford worked with Tutu, too. Some guys try to get cute, do too much, trying to add flavor to something that is simple. Be where you're supposed to be and catch it. It's that simple. Puka listened. Once Kupp comes back, the schemes will get more elaborate because Stafford will have two guys 'for sure' that he can always count on and I expect all 3 WR's to go for HUGE yards this year. He could throw 3 guys to over 1000 yards, I know that sounds insane but if it's gonna happen, it will happen here.

Steve is wrong. Stafford never played with Roy Williams. Roy was with Dallas in 2009, which is Stafford's rookie season. Ice up, son.

Puka recently said he could run his routes with his eyes closed, and when he opened them, the ball would be coming at him. He says Stafford is that accurate. Nakua's words

No mention of the fact that Tutu Atwell is having a great season too. There clearly is room for a second receiver

  • @shaolinman

Puka catches with his hands and not his body like Van Jefferson. Great receivers know how to attack the ball and not wait for it. That’s why when VJ runs his route, Stafford gets intercepted because the DBs can see the ball going towards the receiver.

At 3:30 that ball was supposed to be a deep shot to TuTu Atwell. Typical Matt Stafford throw. Just like he brought it out earlier, keying in on 1 WR.

#UnderdogFantasy.....it makes me wonder..... They drafted Puka even tho Kupp is still the guy....
Did they plan on using them both or maybe Kupps injury is more serious than they let on

Despite what Steve says puka is not in the kupp role. If u were to use 17 kupp is kupp puka is woods van and tutu are Watkins 18 same thing just tutu and van are cooks. This offense can feed more than 1 wr it's what Goff specialized at in 17 and 18 it's Stafford who keys In and trusts 1 guy usually

When kupp comes back, him and nacua will take turns being "that guy" to limit hits throughout the season and hopefully go into playoffs with a healthy and tough receiving core to defend.

Love the channel, "it's must see you tube". I don't know but Steve didn't seem like Cooper Kupp was going back to #1. Anyway, your opinion on Nico Collins vs. Mike Williams rest of season? Mike is so inconsistent, and Nico is the #1 on a team with a rookie QB that is slinging the rock... Thank you guys.

12:08 I don't buy that he's supposed to run a clean out route. He's shifting his weight to the outside as he turns inside like a z out, and the ball would have been way behind him if he had broken outside. Nowhere near the football IQ of Steve Smith, but I don't think that example should be considered a "rookie mistake". Would be really interesting to know for sure though.

As an armchair fantasy/dynasty player I think Puka will be still be productive if Kupp comes back 100%. McVay's systems can support multiple WRs in their offense and even a Woods like production would be still great.
They also seem to trust him a lot giving a 5th round rookie that many looks this early in the season is almost unheard of it. I have confidence if he and Stafford stay healthy he'll be a good fantasy option.
