In this video we review the Ruger American Gen2 one of the most hyped popular rifles of 2024, esthetically this definitely takes home the beauty pageant. But how does it perform? Mediocre, yeah very mediocre. this model was in .308 Winchester, not my preferred Caliber. you Know it I would have preferred a 6.5 Creedmoor, from my experience they tend to be more accurate.
As a quick comparison from the Gen1 to this Gen2. the Gen1 was an excellent rifle, many would say it didn't need a revision and now for 100 of your currency more than the gen1 you get the Gen2 in all its glory. what does that mean?
    the main differences are:
-Spiral fluted barrel (as opposed to medium profile)
-Cold hammer forged as opposed to button rifled
-Radial muzzle brake (as opposed to none)
-Cera-coated action, barrel and muzzle break as opposed to a blued action (ill have to double check that one)
-stock now has replaceable comb height, and changeable length of pull
    -texturing on the stock
Ruger clearly invested big on these changes and its definitely worth the extra cost.
If you own one of these models, leave your experience (what you think of them in the comments below.) If you would like to join the discussion join our Facebook group: / 410741373108583

Here’s a gunsmith hack for you. Screw the trigger in almost as tight as it will allow you to go for the heaviest trigger pull then let it sit for a day or two and then come back and see what it will just out to.

I picked up a 2018 built Ruger American 300 AAC Ranch secondhand under 1/2 the cost of the Gen 2 goes for in Australia. Very happy with it and no secretly wishing I held out and got the new model.
Only thing I wish it has the rust resistant coating, can always get that done if I want later.

I've read that Bergara's have had accuracy issues due to some of the stock paint covering the bedding blocks. I wonder if the paint at 12:51 could be causing some of the disparity in group size.

    • @michaelhill6451
      @michaelhill6451 3 месяца назад

Yeah, I had Bergara that wouldn't shoot. I removed the paint and it made no difference. I sent it to Bergara twice to get it fixed and they never did get it to shoot. The second time they sent it back with rust all over the bolt and some in the barrel. At that point I had had enough and just sold it.

In doing so, the rifle immediately started grouping under 1/2 inch 5 shot groups. So I definitely feel you are correct by removing the break before junking the rifle.

How long did it take to test 10 different loads? Was it allowed to cool between load changes. Was it cleaned between load changes so that each load would have the same starting point as far as having a clean barrel? The muzzle break looked really dirty is why I was asking. These are all things that could affect the accuracy that have nothing to do with the actual rifle. All of the other reviews I have seen show it to be fairly accurate, but they were different calibers. Thanks in advance.

    • @EpikArms
      @EpikArms  4 месяца назад +1

Hi Justin, all my rifle tests are done exaclty the same, no cleaning between ammo (and this reflects well with many other rifles) , from my experience and from information from the pros this has no impact on accuracy (rimfire is a different story)
Also the barrel is let to cool down between each different ammo. It takes forever at the range, but that just how it is

What people fail to understand, this is a sample size of one. I have seen, for the most part, this being a “average” one MOA rifle. You will get shots between 3/4 and 1-1/4 for three shot groups. That is still really good for a budget rifle. I personally have taken my time and got one group that was .302”. I consistently get groups that are .9 and .8. That was with federal gold medal match 168 grain the 175s shot a little better but I like the 168 for my other rifles and my friends who help reload. You may have harmonic issues with the stock, a picky rifle, or poor quality control. I would be interested to know what would happen if you took the rifle apart and retorqued it down. My stock had even gap between each side of the barrel. Most of them do not, and this can cause accuracy issues.
People need to stop getting offended by honest reviews even if someone accidentally says the wrong thing. People are right, it is not the predator model. It is the new standard model.
I actually find it quite incredible that your Mossberg patriot is averaging under 2 inches. Most reviews I have seen are far worse. This is a point in case of this video. Most videos I have seen with the Ruger Gen two is far more accurate than yours.
As for the barrel length issue, if you measure a barrel using the approved method of breach face to muzzle, it is 21 inches. Subtract the 1 inch of muzzle break and you get 20 inches.
I highly encourage you to research the nomenclature of what you’re talking about. People will easily discredit what you’re talking about if you don’t sound like you know what you’re talking about. I have been there, trust me lol.
All things considered, you shouldn’t have to, but I would do some things to ensure that the actual barrel is the issue before claiming the accuracy deficiencies you were getting. Maybe contact Ruger and explain that to them and see what they have to say. I have contacted Ruger for several things over the years and find their customer service to be quite satisfactory.

How many factory rifles shoot consistently under an inch at 100y with factory ammo. My personal experience has showed me the opposite to you results. The .308 win has been always more accurate on average than any of the .264 cal rivals, 260 rem, 6.5 cr and so on. The closer a cartridge approaches the point of being overbore, the more difficult they are to be made accurate. So, does this test of this .308, conclude the rifle is not accurate or that factory ammo on average can't do better than 2 moa, is really the question.

Not a fan of the muzzle break. I'm throwing 30-06 at elk and deer. Don't really care about muzzle climb but I do care about the massive shockwave and sound I know you can take it off but still. Barrels kinda whack as well and so is the stock. It's just really ugly all around.

Almost all rifles will have a ammo they prefer that was a bit bigger spread then i would like to see as well for that many diffeerent ammo types. The ruger Americans have always been cold hammer forged. and Ruger cold hammer forges almost all of their rifle barrles even including the Ruger 10/22.

Gen 1 was NOT button rifled, Ruger is as far as I know COMPLETLY cold hammer forged for quite a while now
I would NOT send a Ruger in for warranty work with an aftermarket trigger, or any aftermarket parts for that matter, they probably will not come back to you!

Wow, what a bummer. Gen 1’s we’re noted for their awesome accuracy, their “meh” trigger, and their CRAPPY stock. Now they have an awesome stock, still a “meh” trigger, and CRAPPY accuracy. So disappointing, really was hoping to get one in 6.5CM since the stocks are rad now, but with accuracy an issue, I’m going to look elsewhere.

Rugers in 308 tend to like 150 grain bullets.

Ruger just always drops the ball on something. The gen 1 its only good fearure was its accuracy. The gen 2 not so much

Stop using the led sled to shoot groups ! It prevents the rifle from recoiling naturally !! Especially for higher recoiling rounds !!! If they are so wonderful for accurate shooting, Then Why don’t long range target shooters use them !! The exact number of those folks that use led sled is Zero !!

@user-tb8qq7tj2o hey User, I don't own a led sled. In the video you will see a rifle supported by a front adjustable rest (the rock) and a rear support. Thanks for watching!

Sorry must have been a different video !! I sure hope my predator shoots good !! Just got a gen 2 predator in 6 mm ARC !! I have not mounted the scope yet, an Athlon argo 6x25x50 which I am pretty excited about !! For clarity and tracking they typically rate very well just like other Ruger gen 2 rifles ??? I got that unit because I just want to learn how to shoot past 400 yards, not to compete or anything like that !! For hunting I have a gen 1 in 308 that is very accurate especially for hunting !!

Doesn't even know what he is reviewing and downgrading it. That's a Gen 2 standard. made it to 8 minutes of his ignorance and uneducated review that is far from Epik

your a real hero if you made it that far, I salute you. lol in truth I didnt even think twice i have the gen1 predator and this one. this Gen2 technically would be a predator (like the gen1) if they hadn't fluted the barrel. there is no other distinction. but yeah you guys are right! lol
