Titanium does scratch easier. But Citizen actually uses Titanium with a clear coating of an anti scratch material. Hence the name Super Titanium.
There is a reason for the name.
So, yes for the money it appears to be a great value. It’s quite a stretch though to say it compares to any Grand Seiko. The movement of course also cannot compare however looks like a great beater or go everywhere (almost) do everything watch.
True, but grand Seiko finishing is like a good haircut, give it two weeks of regular wear and it’s a skating rink of micro scratches.
This watch is an entry level watch, and for a lot of people buying it it may be their only mechanical/automatic watch. The attraction of a mechanical watch is that you can see and understand how it works, which requires a glass caseback. It may not make much sense for a watch collector who has half a dozen watches with movements sporting Côtes de Genève, Œil de Perdrix etc., but it improves the experience for the regular person buying a nice watch.

I'd love to add that Citizen is probably the only brand under $1000 that produces quartz watches (and also supplies movements to other brands) known for their precise second hand alignment, hitting the marker every single time! I can't put into words how cool that is, especially when you see quartz watches from other brands with their second hands all over the place, missing the markers.
I never could understand how companies would miss the mark on that. It’s a fixed alignment and you’ve just gotta align it 😩

My watch was purchased 2 years ago from MaMaCoo and, to this day, it still looks and runs as well as it did the day it arrived. That movement has never missed a beat despite never having been serviced. I can't complain about that.
The press clasp helps keep the price down and no one sees it when it’s closed so it’s good they cut the right corners
I know the thumbnail is bait, but I'm gonna have to disagree with the Grand Seiko comparison here. I have a Tsuyosa and a Grand Seiko and they're not even in the same league. The Citizen line (formerly Chronomaster) gets close. Otherwise, nice video. 👍
The claim that titanium is easier to scratch than steel but harder to ding is not entirely accurate. Titanium forms a thin oxide layer that can develop a mild patina over time. This layer can heal minor scratches, making them less noticeable as the layer of oxide renews itself, which is why scratches on titanium often appear to resolve over time. So even though it appears titanium scratches more easily than steel, this is because some of those scratches are on the oxide layer and not on the metal itself.
What an amazing watch. I have Omega, Longines, and others and this finishing looks at that level.

I don’t regret a thing. I bought this watch with the blue dial and I own the tissot prx quartz green dial version. There is definitely a difference but I love owning both.
It's GS-esque in some ways (e.g. textured dial), but when you pay more for GS, you get more (e.g. decorated movement, better finished hands and indices, MEMS parts, longer power reserve). Saying it's a GS killer is exaggerated.

Like actually try. Mines also not taxed, so if yours is, it’s your location and no one else’s problem. So when I purchased this watch it was before all the hype and was for 399 on Watches mega store. Which I left up above. Can’t help the fact that you’re hopping in as it trains already moving and it’s up $25 from what I bought it.

Citizen could use a 9000 series if they bother to finish the watch that nice, also a better clasps.
I have a seiko astron in titanium ,and it scratches so easily. The problem with hard coating on watches is that the watch can't be repolished/brushed,unless you rub of all the coating.

If Citizen is killing anyone, it's Seiko. Citizen has been releasing so many compelling watches in the past few years at affordable prices that someone at Seiko should be nervous. Seiko has been putting out some good watches lately, but not enough of them. I have simply not been impressed by Seiko in the last few years. I'm actually looking forward to what other dial colors Citizen will put out on this product line. If they will be anything like what we have seen with the Tsuyosas, then this model line is going to be killer!

Looks great to me, you can't see the display caseback when it's on wrist, and the pressed clasp I bet is comfortable, and is slim and in keeping with the flow of the bracelet
It is true that the bracelet and clasp are very comfortable. It has become a daily wearer for the comfort and lightness
Very difficult to create a milled clasp in titanium. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a titanium bracelet that has a milled clasp even on much more expensive watches, unless it’s a steel clasp which just looks … weird. I changed out a milled Ti clasp for a steel one and while the fit was fine, the finish wasn’t. It clashed horribly.

I think I’m gonna sell of 2-3 of my Chinese homage watches to buy the blue dial of this one. It’s hard because one of them is a titanium San Martin Pelagos homage and it has a milled clasp with microadjust and bracelet has screw pins. It’s such a nice light watch as well and looks fantastic. But the Citizen is a more unique original design and I’ve been considering an integrated bracelet like Christopher Ward’s, the PRX during a quick store visit just didn’t connect with me. This beautiful dial and the dimensions seem like a good trade-off to getting further away from a watch box full of Chinese homages.

Leaving aside that Grand Seiko plays in a different league, I will even say that "The Citizen" and Citizen Chronomaster watches play in a different league. That much is obvious.
But you are right. What Citizen produces here, for a couple hundred dollars, has no business being this good. The dials are fantastic. To be honest though, I would always take the 39,5mm eco drive version with a central seconds hand over these 40,5mm watches with a mechanical movement. Because smaller is better, especially with integrated bracelet watches.
CItizen is on a roll though. The NB1050 is stellar (although I find the hands too short and fragile looking), the Tsuyosa is stellar, and this series is also cool. Then again, for 500 bucks, a Casio Oceanus 100 and 200 have no business being as good as they are either, so Citizen is not alone with stellar offerings in this price bracket.
They don't fundamentally add anything to owning a The Citizen AQ4100 Ibuki, and I have a mild distaste for integrated bracelet watches, so I won't buy one, but I respect what they've done here.
If you want another Citizen that plays in the "baby GS / baby Chronomaster" league, check out the NB1060 series with the lacquered dials. They are fantastic too.

got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on amzwatch 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.

At last, I've had time to watch the video. It's a very nice watch and the dial is excellent. I like the placement of the subdial. As for titanium, I do scuba dive and use a dive watch as a backup and a titanium Seiko I had with hardened diashield coating, it got scratched so badly on the first dive amongst coral. Titanium scratches look awful. I'd love it in stainless steel. The movement is not the prettiest but looks a lot better than the NH movements Seiko insist on showing us! I don't mind the pressed clasp but an integrated titanium bracelet is a bad idea. You can't swap it out easily when it inevitably looks like a piece of old scratched up scrap metal within a year. I'm not an integrated bracelet fan anyway, I like to swap straps around. If this was stainless steel with a standard lug design I'd go for it. I do have the Grand Seiko by the way, the Shosho SBGJ249 GMT that I sold a few watches to get it and now my most expensive by far. Can the Citizen dial be confused with the hand crafted GS dial housed inside the hand made Zaratsu polished case? I don't think so. There is a trend towards these dial types, I was reading that it's a fairly new pressed molding technique developed in China and you can now see these on some higher quality Chinese watches too. They are certainly very good looking and replicate GS dials to some extent. This Citizen is definitely worth the money, though you'd have to treat it with gentleness to keep it presentable. Then again, I have to treat my GS the same way to keep that polishing perfect!
I would jump on immediately if it was in steel I'm just not a titanium watch fan I like to feel my watches on wrist and of course the finish of steel watches is more preferable imo Thanks for sharing another killer review my friend Be well and Stay Frosty 👍

“The Citizen” brand watches do compete with GS. They are amazing watches.
I think this model gives the Seiko 5 some competition in terms of originality. The titanium bracelet looks cheap though and is gimmicky imo.

As a broke boy and actual enthusiast who wants watch’s prices to crater, amzwatch is a good choice.
What is bad about the clasp? And what would have been better? New to watches.
There’s nothing really that wrong about the pressed clasp. It is very comfortable, and it does offer some micro adjustments. I’ve handled over 400 watches on this channel and there’s a difference between a pressed clasp and a milled clasp. So for example, the press class is a thinner piece of steel that is pressed into a shape where as a milled clasp is a solid chunk of metal that is then milled into the class so it’s just stronger.
Because I’ve seen other Watch brands do the milled clasp at under 300 bucks, companies like citizen should also do the same thing. That being said, there’s nothing really wrong with it. It’s just a cheaper way of making a clasp.

You should compare a The Citizen (Chronomaster) model to a Grand Seiko. That’s a more even fight save the Spring Drive. But the HAQ Eco Drive movements are also very cool technology.
The chronometer is 2500…. For that a used grand seiko is an option..

I have an older citizen super titanium watch and prob is the most comfortable one i have and you almost forgets you have it on from time to time.

Dial and finishing could be compared to GS, but Seiko also have watches with gorgeous dials and finishing such as the Presage line. Also this with standard Miyota movement vs the GS Spring Drives and Hi beats? Such a clickbait.

In terms of aesthetic, it is close to excellent. For mechanical movement, below average, far cry from Grand Seiko movement. So it didn't "Murdered " Grand Seiko.
I own a Citizen Tsuyosa, yes it is a nice watch but it can never compete with Seiko models and falls behind.

I’m amused by the hyperbole. As much as I love this new Forza, the movement is a letdown compared to Grand Seiko. People in the market for a Grand Market will never settle for this.
People who are looking at actually buying a grand seiko will buy a grand Seiko. Someone looking at that high quality of Watch is not gonna settle for a $400 watch. Just like someone who wants to buy a Rolex doesn’t care about a Seiko SKX.
But for the people who can’t afford to spend over $5000 on a watch. This is a wonderful alternative.

I'm sure you must have experienced it. The result is that viewers get wary of wasting their time. I did see a similar video where the reviewer was saying that a £100 seiko was a Rolex killer. Anyhow it's something to bear in mind for the future.

That’s why I try to put all the details upfront then my opinions at the end. Most people only watch the first couple minutes so might as well get the details out of the way.
