I have the Spiegen Clear Ear Cup protectors.
They protect the AirPods Ear Cups well while you can still see the beautiful aluminium.
They are also nice to the touch which is important.
And they are so hard to take off that you tend to keep them on (which may be a good thing)

Another argument for the silicon covers is that they might prevent the condensation issue that's been happening (easy to find youtube videos about that issue). By putting a layer around the metal cup, it wont' be as much of a heat sink.
I just received my AirPods max a couple days ago from Ebay. They are great headphones. I bought myself an accessory bundle from a site for the blind. I have a very nice hardshell case which does have the smart charge feature to put the headphones into the sleep mode. I also have the silicone ear back protectors. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to put them on. However, they fit very nicely and I like them. I have a 20 watt wall charger with both a USBC port and a regular USB port as well. The AirPods max are great headphones. Audio books now sound great once I turned off the spacial audio feature. Music is very good as well as audio dramas. The noise canceling is also very good.
Just recently picked up a pair of these for an insanely good price ($300 USD, sealed), and they're amazing. Gives me more room to grab one of these. Definitely thinking about that Benks stand but maybe the one with the charging case for a 2 in 1! Appreciate this video 🙌

Thank you for your comprehensive review on the AirPods Max. I was also convinced to get the hard case which keeps the headphones in pristine condition. Waiting for them to drop to $420 was the last thing that convinced me to get them. Patience pays off. I really enjoy all your Apple content. Keep up the great work.

Good review. The stand you feature looks great but I do not hang my headphones. I use the Waterfield case along with the AirPods Max sleeve and love the combination of the sleeve when I am at home and the case with the sleeve when I travel out.
The Waterfield case is the one I have for when I take my AirPods Max on the go!

I own several of these accessories and can't recommend them enough. The silicon covers are definitely subjective, but I prefer them to the bare aluminum on my white models. I also purchased the "red" Airpods Max for my fiance and we bought the silicon covers for those as well, and the vibrant pink hue of the cover better matches the color of the band, rather than the dulled silvery pink of the aluminum, making them a far more attractive pair of cans in my eyes. I have also recently purchased a "band cover" for my white Airpods Max, and would also recommend these to anyone using the white band. It doesn't change the experience during use, but it will preserve the material if you are, like me, using these for 12-14 hours a day at your desk for work and potentially producing some sweat/grime during that time.
If you’re wearing AirPods max for that length of time you must be having issues with the condensation that builds up in them? Even when I use mine for an hour I have to wipe the condensation out from inside the earcups. They will eventually get damaged by condensation if not looked after this way. From all the Apple forums I’ve looked at regarding this issue Apple will not cover people for this happening either.
@@Eleventhearlofmars Strangely, I don't have that issue, although I know others have and I believe Apple should recognize this is a potential design flaw and should be covered under the warranty. My bigger concern is still the inconsistency in the battery life; it's like rolling the dice, whether or not the headset will go into rest mode overnight, or burn through the battery.

I have that case. I noticed that if you have the AirPods Max silicone covers and use this case, it blocks it from sleeping because it still connects to my iPhone from the case. If I take off the covers it works fine.
Brilliant as always. I finally put two and two together and realized that I am also following you on Medium. I am still on the fence about getting a pair personally. I have a pros/cons list going, but there is rarely a product that I just despise from apple. I have XM2s and they are great, but extremely hot after usage. Also, I am deep in the Apple ecosystem, so it makes sense on paper. Good showing.

Gotta say I love the Banks stand searched and searched for on near what they have in the stores and this is the nearest you can get to it, had it for a couple of weeks and the build quality’s excellent, if only Apple sold the stands they have in the store they could take my money!
Case wise nice choice but I’d have gone for one of the cases that puts them in low power mode, the Waterfield case does that but you can get cases around the same price as the one in the video, also I want one that lets you keep the headband at the same length you set it to.
As to the protectors, I bought a pair of spigen covers all good but they add more weight to the headphones, wish I’d went with the thin silicone you have!

Personnally, I bought a gooseneck to hold at the same time my iPad Pro 12.9 contening my music (and displays the cover art of the album playing, which is a part of the fun of listening to music) and my AirPods Max when I don’t use them.

I love my GMYLE AirPods Max travel case. It is similar to the one in this video but it has a mesh to hold cables in and it is just £19.99
Word of warning about the Benks APM stand: The soft pad on the top of this stand is made of some kind of horrible material which after a year or two becomes sticky to the touch. So if you don't want the mesh on the headphones to start being contaminated, you need to prise that pad off the top of the stand, throw it away, and then wipe down the bare plastic that remains. It's not only me who's encountered this - I found some Amazon reviews mentioning the same thing.

There’s one reason I think the AirPods max case is absolutely brilliant.
Marketing. Remember the phrase any press is good press. I guarantee you AirPods max would not be discussed nearly as much if they had no case or a simple boring case. Don’t get me wrong, the thing is stupid to call it a “case” but hey, we’re talking about it aren’t we? Mission accomplished. That being said, I would like to add that most beats cases really aren’t much better. Yea they’re fully enclosed, but they’re finicky and require you to reset the headband to most compact. That remind me, are the cases out there for these going to require me to push the headband down again? I need to make sure the one I get doesn’t.

I just ordered one so now I’ll have two colors. Congrats one the one year anniversary and all the subscribers. 👍

As if i only just realised you can completely remove the ear cups with the sim eject tool. Im thinking 3rd party headbands could be made. Only seen one youtube video showing how to remove them.

I love my AirPods Max! And my pros. And I feel like the 3s that I have is like an updated version of the regular first AirPods? Anyways I got a really nice case on Amazon it’s similar to the one you showed it has the nice crutch thing that holds them in place and but on the other side of the case it has a really big zipper compartment. I can fit both my AirPods pro and 3s and a charging cord, charger block, my cleaning tools for them, my other accessories for them, you could even fit a phone in there with everything. It is slim on the outside and huge on the outside and it’s made of hard leather and it was like 9.99$. I can’t remember what brand they are but it’s got a galaxy design, also, I hope they come out with customizable ear cases, that would be the coolest thing ever to make your own ear case protection things. Just a thought. Great video!

Great video. I’ve been looking at buying these. How has your experience been regarding the condensation? It seems like quite a few people have brought that up whenever I see these headphones being talked about.
Thanks! So far, the condensation is a non-issue. It's there, definitely, but I suspect it's the case with most headphones (albeit you can't detach their ear cups).
@@MarkEllisReviews yes but Apple are refusing to accept it’s an issue and if you’re dropping £550 for headphones you should be covered against damage that can be caused by the design of the item?! Apple will say water damage when they haven’t been near water? Cue the smartasses who’ll say the human body is 90% water lol.
Also, I'm not a fan of silicon covers at all (for these or pretty much any device)...I think they look really tacky. I get they add protection though which is great.

The AirPods max is the single best tech investment ive ever made and the water field case is the best investment to protect my investment I've ever made.Not to mention the case will literally outlast my AirPods max and look amazing while doing it; It's so worth it.
Agreed. Other than my iPad Pro/Magic Keyboard combo, my APM are maybe my favorite tech product I’ve ever purchased. They’re pure luxury. Worth every penny.

Hi Mark - SO I went for it and I got myself a pair of Air Pods Max in space grey and I love them. Of course nothing is perfect especially when it comes to sound because there are so many variables. Pro tip for those who are on the fence about buying the AirPod Max: even tho the AirPods are $549 at Apple stores, if you call Apple Support and ask them to price match for what they’re selling for on Amazon and they will drop the price down to $499.

I bought the Geekria UltraShell case with a view to making the “Smart” case redundant. Pleased with the case, it has a compartment inside for some leads but struggling to get the AirPods in to low power mode with the special gasket supplied. Does anyone else have any experience with this?
I just bought that same case. Don’t seem to have any issues with low power mode as long as the moveable divider is nice and central.

@@MrHoogstoel I can’t seem to fit the Smart case in the Geekria. I have now sorted the sleep mode issue but feel I still need the Smart case to charge the headphones. Unless I also get the Benks stand that Mark highly recommends!

I have taken out the spacer and can put in the complete headphone + shell from Apple without a problem.
That charge plug with the 3 connections on with a 90 watt option, you could, accidentally in a rush, plug your AirPods max into the 90 watt option and blow your headphones?! Or someone else could by mistake?! I wouldn’t use a charger with options like that on.

Everyone rags on the case but I don’t think it’s that bad. I’m not saying it’s good and I wouldn’t use it outside my house but it works well enough for putting them in my drawer. The AirPods Max don’t leave my house so it’s fine for that
There are cheap hard cases (under $40) on Amazon that do not require the bra and also put them to sleep/power off.

Those are why I haven't bought the AirPod Max. At the price Apple wants for these headphones without a cable and without a case and the fact there's no on and off button, I'll wait for the next generation.
I find the case just fine. It’s well built, it’s soft, and minimalist. The case material won’t get scratched easily, in fact I have zero scratches or scuffs on it and I use it everyday and throwing in backpacks, suitcases, cluttered tables etc. It’s a fine case.
If you really need a hard full cover for your 500 dollar headphones, you should consider getting cheaper headphones if you are that careless and irresponsible with expensive equipment.

2:23 Wish you spent more time talking about the Waterfield case. Yes, it’s $90, but they are designed incredibly well and can put the headphones in their low power state mode so you essentially don’t ever have to use the ugly apple case ever again.

But seeing as I use my headphones on the move and commuting, the inability of turning them off, and the lack of sturdy case is off putting for me. If the next generation of Airpods Max have these two things, then I will upgrade... but for now I’ll stick with my XM3’s

Most Definitely Not Worth $550.00 - I Fully Expected To Just Be Blown Away But . . . . After A Very Long Testing Period I i ultimately decided to return them - they have great anc and sound great with music - however much to my disappointment and surprise when compared to my WH 1000X M3s With Movies Going Back And Forth from my z fold 3 & iPhone We had to admit that the airpods max were Sorely Lacking With Movies - the wh 1000X M3s sound Was Fuller more present and more impactful even when we played the XM3s At a lower volume than airpods max - The Spacial Audio Did Improve The Movie Watching impact where the sound is concerned but still sounds muffled And Subdued compared to the SONY 1000X M3s which Come Alive With Movie Audio Which Was My # 1 Reason For Buying The Max - I WAS OONVINCED THAT ID BE SHELVING MY WH 1000X M3s FOR THE AIRPODS MAX BUT I DID NOT FEEL THAT WAY AFTER TESTING THEM - JUST MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED
That case smells like hell… it took weeks for my headphones to wear off the smell.. keep it away from it.
Why use silicone protection? To keep the headphones looking good? But if you use silicone protection, you won't see the original design. What you see is a pair of silicone earphones. 👎🏼
