I have to go with Max because I have a huge problem with earbuds, of any brand or make, staying in my ears. Also they tend to be painful. So it's over the ears headphones for me, all the time!
The AirPods Max were too bass heavy and expensive for me, so opted for a pair of B&O HX purchased at a 25% discount. Upgraded my original AirPods Pro to the new version and am happy that I did.
I picked up the AirPods pro 2 , Noise cancellation is good overall and AirPods max is very good too but they are too heavy both in weight and price and they don’t seem convenient for me.
I’ve been using the Airpods Max for over a year now and I prefer using them most of the time over my Airpods Pro 1st gen. I’ve recently purchased the Airpods Pro 2nd gen and surprisingly I’ve been using the buds more often than my APM (I’m an over-the-ear headphone guy). The sound and features are way better than the 1st generation and somehow they’re more comfortable as well. The Airpods Pro 2s are worth the upgrade.
I agree fully and also have both. I bought gen 1's just last summer and saw good reviews about the second gen so figured I'd try it; I'm floored. The transparency mode I can't imagine being better since it's very close to being as though there is nothing in your ears and a big improvement over the original; so much so I forget they are on my ears often. Also the low base reproduction, and overall accuracy improvements over the prior version is very remarkable. They did a great job making using and wearing them more seamless
I have both and use both on a regular basis. Sound and noise cancelling wise they're both excellent, but the AirPods Max are mugging bait, and uncomfortable when being used whilst resting on a pillow. For those situations it's the Pros for me. But for everything else the Max is my go to.
I have both and imagine that the Pros are a better deal than any of the more expensive over ear headphones that you might throw at them for everyday use. However, I do find earbuds uncomfortable after a bit, even the Pros which are as comfortable as they come. I do tend to use both for whatever reason.
People also have to understand that airpod pros are inside your ear way closer to your ear drum while the APM are over the ear and the seal doesnt even come close to airpods. Battery and look goes to the APM for sure though.
Put Headphone accomodation on brightness and put the bar on strong scroll down to music and put that equaliser on loudness in phone settings, Spotify put that equaliser on loudness and audio normalisation on loud…wait until the speaker burn in, break in how ever you want to say it they both sound awesome 👌
Great Video, I have the original Air Pods Pro and will probably pick up the Air Pods Pro but will get mine from Colorware in the USA as I just love the colours. Will also get some Air Pods Max for Christmas as I am heavily in the Apple ecosystem with my Apple TV with lots of films and TV programs. I managed to pick up a pair of Beoplay H95 last weekend as B&O currently have a sale on got £230 off and paid £549.
I used my new AirPods Pro on my trip to Japan and I was very impressed by the new Noise Cancellation. They did an excellent job blocking out noise on my 13 hour flight and on the super busy streets of Tokyo.
Mark, have you seen the wireless charge option where you put a dongle in the APM and then the base has a magnet charging situation? Wondering if anyone has tried that & if it works

Absolutely. Even the supposed hires and hifi over ear Sony 5 series have a boomy bass and lack transparency. AirPods Pro 2 somehow make music magic and I’m a classical fan. Try the Andrew Lloyd Webber new musical suites album (Evita, sunset Boulevard and Phantom) to demo them. The organ on Phantom will blow your head off……😮
Fist of all i love my AirPods Max. APM are my all time favourite despite few flaws (case, weight, missing lossless audio). Based on this review and few reviews from "trusted" webpages I decided to buy Airpods Pro 2. Just to have something more compact for listening outside or in the bed. And I am DISAPPOINTED. AP2 are FAR AWAY from Airpods Max, sound is tiny, without stage , no kicked sound when needed. I compared side by side. Also in Europe AP2 cost 300€ and APM around 450€ (discounts). I don't recommend AP2 at all , if I had a chance i would return them. The only good thing on AP2 is noise canceling and microphones. Sound, transparency is way better on APM.
I would say pro 2 is better, I feel like the noise cancelation and adaptive transparency is better and it’s the classic buds. And the max is prolly not worth the price
I liked the AirPod pros because I work at a dog shelter with around 60 dogs barking thier head off, with music it’s not so bad. The maxes handle it similarly sound canceling wise. The sound quality on the max are much nicer, the pro 2s are good, just not as good in my opinion. Also, I’m forgetful, and have accidentally clothes washed my pros 2. One wash and they were ruined. They could handle falling in puddles ok as terrifying as it always was. The maxes stay on my head better while working instead of sweating out my ears. I also can’t forget them in my pockets, nice plus. The USBC in the maxes😩😩. Life saver. EDIT: also, if you clip your airpods case to your waist and run with a boarder collie, you WILL loose a bud. If you take a run with a collie in the maxes, they either fall to your shoulders or on the ground and they’re easy to spot compared to an airpod.
It is nonsense. Sound of airpods max is much much better app2. Anc as well. So, there is the worse comparison in the world. Also, I would admit the update was huge. All the things were improved significantly. But. I would prefer to use apmax all the time due to sound quality and use app2 only in office for phone call and RUclips, for jogging as well. So, even though the update is big I wouldn’t recommend to update if you have apm and app1.
Also, I would like to say why I prefer using apmax for even for zoom conferences. Due to passive noise cancellation. I can watch the video even when my son watch tv nearly. So, using apmax allows to be inside conference without any distractions. We could remember the anc app1 was the same but updates killed it. Anc of App2 is reduced as well comparing the start.

Pros are better tbh , I use them for work , I sit beside my coworker my coworker always has to take them off when talking to me, but has to put them on as soon as the phone rings they look like something you would wear at the gym versus something professional
I don't think this is as clean cut as the video says. I own both and have tested them against each other a great deal. The sound signature is very similar between the two. The AirPods Pro 2 have more bass. The APM have a slightly larger soundstage, and a better quality to the sound that comes from having larger drivers. I've grown to like the bra for the APM in that it is quick to put on and off (much faster than a zip case), stops the metal from bumping, and my battery lasts for ages. The APM are not audiophile grade headphones, but there is a wow factor from Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos that I don't get on something like the HD820. For most people I would say to get the AirPods Pro 2 as the quality is stunning for the price. The APM is a step up, but it is a very small step. The HD820 has a soundstage and clarity with high res audio that is on a different level, but it is wired and very expensive.

It is amazing how a pair of headphones that is 1000x smaller can achieve such a close quality to the APM. On top of that it is $300 cheaper. Not sure why would anyone want to buy the APM....
Can you please do me a favour and try both at the same time? I’m really interested if wearing the AirPods Pro 2 with noise canceling on and then the AirPods Pro Max over the top has some kind of both canceling effect!?
Both are great products in my opinion.. the AirPods Pro 2 are a very worthy update over the gen 1 (that I still like and used very much - on the go) but @ home, nothing beats (granted more expensive ones may - and I would also hope they would!) the Max. They completely delete the noise of the 2 tube lines below my window and provide for very pleasant audio quality (and no I have never been bothered by the case nor have I experienced issues with the battery, or them running out of juice quickly. They have held up very well (as I expected) active nearly daily use for the last year and a half. Lastly - just for use in bed nothing beats the extremely comfortable and light AirPods 3...

I have both and the AirpodMax have way way better sound quality and noise cancelling. I don't know why the reviewer says otherwise. Can't compete in sound. I enjoyed the video.
A great review Mark! I think if Apple keep APM in their lineup then APM2 will have to deliver sound over wi-fi (eg AirPlay) to make them stand out compared to APP2. I think the big sound quality limitation these days is Bluetooth.
Owning both, there is most certainly a difference in sounds quality between the two. The best description for me would be that the Pro2 sound compressed and one dimensional. Good dynamics, frequency range, even decent resolution. The APMax have much better resolution, a BIGGER sound, much better sound stage, and sound like they have less computational magic going on to make them sound good. I also feel that I can easily listen the Max's for hours, where as I feel like I need a break from the Pro 2's after an hour or so. The Max's will be my home headphones until.... the Max 2's!
Yes. I just upgraded. I’m not an audiophile so I’m not sure I can tell the difference between the sound quality. but there are definitely times when I prefer to wear the headphones and some respects they’re more comfortable, in other respects are less comfortable. The new adaptive audio feature will definitely mean that the AirPods will be better in certain situations where I might have to talk to people.
I have had the AirPods max for about a year and they are my favorite headphones ever. I replaced my AirPods Pro (1st gen) with the AirPods Max and simply having an over-ear phone within all of the features of the AirPods pro but nearly 4X the usable battery life is just awesome. For me, in ear headphones and over-ear headphones are simply impossible to compare because of the comfort that come with over-ear headphones. I kept my AirPods Pro because when I am outside of my house, there is no replacement for the convenience of earbuds.

Thanks for this. Just bought the AirPods 2 last month, and I love them (And I loved the 1st generation, which I just sold yesterday). And I always use the Apple Watch for volume, but I also wear the Apple Watch at night, and while it is a minor new feature, I LOVE the fact that I can charge the AirPods 2 with the Apple Watch charger while my iPhone is on the MagSafe charger. The sound quality is better, and the noise reduction is night and day. And the extra battery life really helps.
I have had AirPods Pro 2 for a year now and bought a pair of AirPods Max, expecting them to sound way better. As bizarre as it sounds, AirPods Pro 2 does sound slightly better. On my last flight to Japan, I would have been better off with the Max for sure though.
Totally agree Mark, another great video. The AirPods Pro 2's are the best earphones I have ever had, they are just amazing. I'm not really a fan of big headphones if I'm being honest, and the combination to convenience, battery life, amazing sound, Dolby Atmos, noise cancelling, integration and improved waterproofing makes this unbeatable for me as an all-round package. I will of course be interested in seeing what Apple do with Max 2's though.... I have to wonder what Apple were thinking with the stupid bra and always being on, just ridiculous.

@@kosteaproduction yep the original homepod and AirPods max are over engineered. They are too good and too good is associated with high prices which not everyone can afford so it gets discontinued. The homepod has a better processor than the homepod mini with the Apple watch processor. The AirPods Pro 2 sounds better than AirPods max
To each their own but the sound quality is just on a different level on the Max. I don't mind the weight and it actually feels more comfortable for me than in-ears like the Pro 2 which hurt after a few hours. One major consideration is that hardly anyone is buying the Max at full MSRP, and you can get a good condition second-hand pair for around the same as new AirPods Pro 2. Then again they are built for different purposes (Pro 2 portability vs Max quality).
@@asant90 yeah, don't buy used unless you really know what you're doing. the counterfeits are getting pretty sophisticated. like harvesting parts from the airpods in order to make the fakes do things like get detected by iOS. or creating frankenstein headphones out of the parts of many different pairs and then selling them to you as if it is isn't.

Great comparison, and I agree for the most part. The one area where I disagree is about the transparency mode. Adaptive transparency on the Pro 2 is brilliant but in general with transparency mode on the Pro 2 they emphasize mid to high frequencies which is definitely useful from a safety perspective but it does sound unnatural whereas with transparency mode on the APM they simply disappear and sound like they're not being worn at all. As far as charging goes my APM are permanently hooked up to a USB charger when I'm not using them so for me the fact they can't be turned off hasn't been an issue. That being said, my APM do live at home for the most part and unless I'm going on a very long train ride or flying somewhere, the ones I take with me daily are the Pro 2's.
@@fruitykrueger I certainly haven't noticed any drastic drop in capacity though in fairness the longest I tend to use them in any one session is around 6 hours so if for example the battery life has dropped from ~20 to say 18 hours then I wouldn't necessarily notice.
I own both, they each have their pros and cons depending on how you want to use them. NC in my opinion is better on the Maxes but still very very good on the pros.
I own both and mainly use them daily at the gym. The APM has better noise cancellation and transparency when it comes to the gym and the noise of the weights. It was a night and day difference compared to the pro 2s. When I have the pro 2s in I constantly have to check if my Noise cancellation is on because of how much sound that goes through. They both sound great with the APMs having a slight edge. If it wasn’t for the APMs flawed design of them clanking together and the ultra non-portable bra I would have kept them as my daily. The Pro2s portability just can’t be beat, it’s not as flexy though.
@@yuding237 it's subjective. Even if you objectively prove the APP2 is better using objective tools, our ears and brains aren't objective tools. your mileage may vary.
For ANC feature, yes APM maybe better, however the AP2 can seal your ears much better and its enough to block noise from outside even without the help of Noise cancellation.. Transparency mode is also better on AirPods Pro series.. probably due to better mic as well.
not a daily apple user... but the airpods max is intriguing... a deal breaker for me is the low power mode and the USB C... Considering that I charge most things via USB C, apple really needs to make that switch and they need to give the option to turn off the headphones so I dont get battery range anxiety.
I’d agree, generally. The APM do have advantages but on the APP2, there is an immediacy to the vocals, an almost ‘analogue’ presentation that’s actually an improvement over the APM. (BTW - for my money the sound from the APP2 is the best on the market. They are better than the Sony and Bose equivalents to my ears. The Sony are too narrow and clinical and the mid range of the Bose is muddy). Like you, I’m surprised Apple didn’t make more of the sound quality. Perhaps because it might slow sales of the APM.? Or am I being too cynical? 😂
I got the AirPods Max after the AirPods Pro and I feel the AirPods Max are way better. They feel amazing for actually feeling the bass and it rumble on your air. Very comfortable but too pricey. But I feel they’ll last me many years.
I'm sorry but Airpod Pro 2 may sound better than gen 1 but the Max still sound 2x better. Soundstaging, separation, and detail are SIGNIFICANTLY better on airpod Max. Now obviously it isn't a fair fight (over ear vs ear bud) but seriously you cannot choose the pro over the max for sound quality. Noise cancelling, comfort, value, etc all make a compelling case but not pure audio quality.
I recently sold my airPods Max and got the second generation pros. I like the pros so much more. The portability, they charge via magSafe and now USB C on the case, the sound quality is more than good enough for me, and something I haven't seen anyone mention in these comments: the airPods Pro 2 get so many awesome iOS 17 features. The Max get barely anything.
Same here. I was at Tmobile and they offered me both with $0 down… I went and watched the video and got the pro 2 and saved myself 300 dollars on the long run. I guess I just wanted the max for the gimmick but being outside on an hot summer day with them doesnt sound comfortable.
The differences in sound quality between them don’t matter much when I’m mainly listening to Bob Dylan’s nasal vocals on his extensive back catalogue 😂🤣

3:32 That background rumble you’re hearing is a result of the design flaw of the design of the pros 1. Stuff building up in that mesh next to one of the ear detection sensors makes the noise canceling worse and have that rumble effect

You sound out of your mind the minute you give sound quality to the airpods pro 2 over the airpods max ! I got both and there is no way the airpods pro 2 beat the max on sound quality !
I’ve been going back and forth on whether to get these for a while given that I have both the 1st Gen AirPods Pro and Max. This video helped me in deciding to give the the 2nd Gen a shot, thank you Mark. The 2nd Gen AirPods Pro are definitely very very good value for money in comparison to the AirPods Max. I wouldn’t say the sound of APP2 overall is necessarily better than the Max but it is a fraction of the APM both in terms of size and ££ amount ! With that said I’m very excited to see how the APM2 will perform when it finally arrives. I wouldn’t spend ~500 on on APM1 now tho given it’s approaching its 3 years of release..
I have AirPods Max and the only reason I like them is because they’re pretty hard to lose and they’re also stylish. I’ve owned 2 pairs of AirPods and idk how but I misplace one piece both times
Call me ridiculous...but I've already got the Max but am now considering a pair of Pros even though I honestly don't have a specific need or use for earbuds.
I also own both and IMPO the APM are more detailed, open and balanced vs the Pro 2 which are amazing buds but suffer from a slightly lack of detail and a touch to much bass for balance. They are a fantastic upgrade over the Pro 1 as the NC is a also big step up as is the sound overall (less high mids, rounder highs and much more low end - great when you’re in a noisy environ but a little too much when it’s quiet). I definitely prefer the sound quality of the APM over the Pro 1/2. I have no issues with the battery life of my APM. The ‘bra’ case is useful but a power button would have been greatly appreciated. For what they cost the Pro 2 is the pick naturally but I love my APM and they are my inside headphones. They are also much more comfortable to wear for long periods and have better battery life (you don’t need to charge them half way through the day).
How fast does you APM drain battery? In my experience I have to charge it every week with light usage (1-2 hour/day). My other headphones could last a month with similar usage.
I have to disagree with you. I have ears where none of the different ear tips passed the ear fit test and noise cancelation was never possible. Often I had to raise the volume with the AirPods pro2. I bought the AirPods Max to maybe protect my hearing. What a difference.! With AirPods Max, I get high quality sound, noise cancellation, transparency and I don't need to have the volume too high. I can connect the charging wire to one of my thunderbolt ports on my MacBook Pro. I don't have a problem with lightning, since my Magic Mouse charges that way.
What would you Guys Say if I have the chance to Buy AirPods Pro Max on the Backmarket vor Round About 300€, should I buy the AirPods Max or the AirPods Pro 2 vor 219€ ? I m realy struggeling after watching this video. Already have the Bose 700 nc for my Gym activities. Do me a favour, listen to One Week by Barefoot Ladies on Apple Music (with Dolby) and listen to the bass line on the pro 2 and the Max. Is it even close? - is the sound stage even close? - I love my pro 2 but they do sound 2x cheaper than the Max to me.
They are both very good options, but for noise cancellation alone AirPods Max win hands down. But AirPods Pro 2 are far better for portability. I have both and both daily depending on where I’m using them.
In a quiet room, I did a quick comparison between the AirPod Pro 2 and the 1More Sonoflow head phones (over ear). These are $99 headphones. First, the Sonoflow’s do produce great sound. ANC and transparency mode may be inferior to the higher end headphones. Honestly, the Sonoflow’s sounded better than the AirPod Pro 2. I believe this is attributable to their excellent sound profile and also that they are over the ear- offering a resonance and open chamber feel earbuds cannot match. The AirPod Max is a higher quality headphone, over 5x the price, so I have to assume they would sound even better. In a loud setting, the AirPod Pro may have better ANC, and the experience might be better than most over the ear consumer headphones. However, noisy settings is not my use case.
Airpods Max last less than 20 hours, because of battery degradation, that being said Airpods pro are still better since they are portable with a case, just pop it in and you're done + the case wirelessly charges which is a massive pro.
My experience is that AirPods Max have too much fabric and ear cushion to block out most sounds even with ANC on. I’ve found that the AirPods Pro 2 have a massive increase in noise cancelling function over the Max. It’s quieter for sure.
*listened to Mark, bought AirPods Max* (One month later) *Max were garbage, you spent too much* Probably. But for work/personal calls at home (not taking these out except on a plane), or listening to TV, I find the over-ear more comfortable. If I were exercising with these outside the house I would want the ear bud. I did buy the blue version of the case Mark recommended, much sturdier for travel than the training bra the Max come with and power save does work. Bought the stand too, the non-charging one, and I’m glad I did. I have a tendency to throw things around and the stand helps me remember.
apple air pod max movie experience with spatial audio blows anything I have experienced in the market. It truely is an immersive experience. so for me apple airpod max is definitely a buy. Of course, sony xm 5 or something has better sound where you can hear the music instruments separately. But I think high quality music and general conversation together are hard to capture in one device. sony xm 5 is not as good for phone conversation.
Higher price is not necessarily a benchmark for better sound quality. Or anything else for that matter. Too many chumps out there who seem to think otherwise, however!
As someone who do not like to poke stuffs into my ear canal, it’s AirPods Max all the way. As with all Apple products, quality and most importantly of all, seamless integration within Apple’s ecosystem. Heck the slightly inferior sound quality. It’s Bluetooth anyway with its inherent bandwidth limitations. If I were to insist on top notch sound quality, I will simply reach for a pair of audiophile grade wired headphones, connect it with suitable DAC and amps combo and enjoy music indoors. Life is about compromising. Peace ✌️
I was gifted a set of AirPods Max for my BD, so now I have both. I think it’s an Apple apple to Apple oranges comparison 🍎😊🍊 Both devices are brilliant but still works best for very different use cases - over-the-ear-AirPods Max excel for deep focus/isolation work and more serious listening of music and movies in a comfy chair AND the AirPods Pro 2 are great for everything else. The biggest advantage is their portability, which is why I take mine with me everywhere I go. I’d say people who prefer headphones to ear buds already know all the pros and cons, and they’re also aware that there are better sounding headphones on the market. In that regard, AirPods Pro 2 wins best in category, whereas AirPods Max are in much more competitive field.
I just purchased the Max and found through a side by side with my updated pro 2 models that the Pro 2 sound better. And I will not be returning the Max to the store.
Reviewers constantly moan about the lack of USB C, however in my house we have multiple iPhones, iPads and yes AirPods. The last thing we need is USB C and therefore a different charger. For our usage it would just be inconvenient! I would argue there are many out there that would feel the same?
I have both. I just got the AirPods Max as a gift. I truly believe the sound is great on the AirPods Max. But the AirPods pro2 are jus slightly better fit in ear headphones it’s easily the best in ear headphones on the market. A huge upgrade over the pro 1s. But the AirPods Max really takes noise cancellations to the next level and i love it’s transparency mode. But the AirPods Pro 2 are a better headphone. But I do believe if apple comes out with the max 2. They gonna blow the AirPods Pro 2 out the water. Apple needs too upgrade rhe max and make them lighter and make the controls alittle easier to use. But I believe both are great. But the AirPods Pro 2 are easily the best headphones I’ve ever used.
I don’t know if it’s certain models of the AirPods Max but they sound considerably worse than my app2. The first pair I bought stopped working after about a month.

I agree fully and also have both. I bought gen 1's just last summer and saw good reviews about the second gen so figured I'd try it; I'm floored. The transparency mode I can't imagine being better since it's very close to being as though there is nothing in your ears and a big improvement over the original; so much so I forget they are on my ears often. Also the low base reproduction, and overall accuracy improvements over the prior version is very remarkable. They did a great job making using and wearing them more seamless
I have both and use both on a regular basis. Sound and noise cancelling wise they're both excellent, but the AirPods Max are mugging bait, and uncomfortable when being used whilst resting on a pillow. For those situations it's the Pros for me. But for everything else the Max is my go to.
I have both and imagine that the Pros are a better deal than any of the more expensive over ear headphones that you might throw at them for everyday use. However, I do find earbuds uncomfortable after a bit, even the Pros which are as comfortable as they come. I do tend to use both for whatever reason.
I’m watching this with AirPods Pro 2 on. Just curious how the H1 overear works compared to the H2 earbuds.
People also have to understand that airpod pros are inside your ear way closer to your ear drum while the APM are over the ear and the seal doesnt even come close to airpods. Battery and look goes to the APM for sure though.
Put Headphone accomodation on brightness and put the bar on strong scroll down to music and put that equaliser on loudness in phone settings, Spotify put that equaliser on loudness and audio normalisation on loud…wait until the speaker burn in, break in how ever you want to say it they both sound awesome 👌

I have the original Air Pods Pro and will probably pick up the Air Pods Pro but will get mine from Colorware in the USA as I just love the colours.
Will also get some Air Pods Max for Christmas as I am heavily in the Apple ecosystem with my Apple TV with lots of films and TV programs.
I managed to pick up a pair of Beoplay H95 last weekend as B&O currently have a sale on got £230 off and paid £549.
I used my new AirPods Pro on my trip to Japan and I was very impressed by the new Noise Cancellation. They did an excellent job blocking out noise on my 13 hour flight and on the super busy streets of Tokyo.
Mark, have you seen the wireless charge option where you put a dongle in the APM and then the base has a magnet charging situation? Wondering if anyone has tried that & if it works

Try the Andrew Lloyd Webber new musical suites album (Evita, sunset Boulevard and Phantom) to demo them. The organ on Phantom will blow your head off……😮
Fist of all i love my AirPods Max. APM are my all time favourite despite few flaws (case, weight, missing lossless audio). Based on this review and few reviews from "trusted" webpages I decided to buy Airpods Pro 2. Just to have something more compact for listening outside or in the bed. And I am DISAPPOINTED. AP2 are FAR AWAY from Airpods Max, sound is tiny, without stage , no kicked sound when needed. I compared side by side. Also in Europe AP2 cost 300€ and APM around 450€ (discounts). I don't recommend AP2 at all , if I had a chance i would return them. The only good thing on AP2 is noise canceling and microphones. Sound, transparency is way better on APM.

I liked the AirPod pros because I work at a dog shelter with around 60 dogs barking thier head off, with music it’s not so bad. The maxes handle it similarly sound canceling wise. The sound quality on the max are much nicer, the pro 2s are good, just not as good in my opinion. Also, I’m forgetful, and have accidentally clothes washed my pros 2. One wash and they were ruined. They could handle falling in puddles ok as terrifying as it always was. The maxes stay on my head better while working instead of sweating out my ears. I also can’t forget them in my pockets, nice plus. The USBC in the maxes😩😩. Life saver. EDIT: also, if you clip your airpods case to your waist and run with a boarder collie, you WILL loose a bud. If you take a run with a collie in the maxes, they either fall to your shoulders or on the ground and they’re easy to spot compared to an airpod.

It is nonsense. Sound of airpods max is much much better app2. Anc as well. So, there is the worse comparison in the world. Also, I would admit the update was huge. All the things were improved significantly. But. I would prefer to use apmax all the time due to sound quality and use app2 only in office for phone call and RUclips, for jogging as well. So, even though the update is big I wouldn’t recommend to update if you have apm and app1.
Also, I would like to say why I prefer using apmax for even for zoom conferences. Due to passive noise cancellation. I can watch the video even when my son watch tv nearly. So, using apmax allows to be inside conference without any distractions. We could remember the anc app1 was the same but updates killed it. Anc of App2 is reduced as well comparing the start.

I don't think this is as clean cut as the video says. I own both and have tested them against each other a great deal. The sound signature is very similar between the two. The AirPods Pro 2 have more bass. The APM have a slightly larger soundstage, and a better quality to the sound that comes from having larger drivers. I've grown to like the bra for the APM in that it is quick to put on and off (much faster than a zip case), stops the metal from bumping, and my battery lasts for ages. The APM are not audiophile grade headphones, but there is a wow factor from Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos that I don't get on something like the HD820. For most people I would say to get the AirPods Pro 2 as the quality is stunning for the price. The APM is a step up, but it is a very small step. The HD820 has a soundstage and clarity with high res audio that is on a different level, but it is wired and very expensive.

Both are great products in my opinion.. the AirPods Pro 2 are a very worthy update over the gen 1 (that I still like and used very much - on the go) but @ home, nothing beats (granted more expensive ones may - and I would also hope they would!) the Max. They completely delete the noise of the 2 tube lines below my window and provide for very pleasant audio quality (and no I have never been bothered by the case nor have I experienced issues with the battery, or them running out of juice quickly. They have held up very well (as I expected) active nearly daily use for the last year and a half. Lastly - just for use in bed nothing beats the extremely comfortable and light AirPods 3...

Yes indeed and after assessing a few videos I came to the conclusion that it is in fact NOT justifiable.
I have both and the AirpodMax have way way better sound quality and noise cancelling. I don't know why the reviewer says otherwise. Can't compete in sound. I enjoyed the video.

A great review Mark! I think if Apple keep APM in their lineup then APM2 will have to deliver sound over wi-fi (eg AirPlay) to make them stand out compared to APP2. I think the big sound quality limitation these days is Bluetooth.
Owning both, there is most certainly a difference in sounds quality between the two. The best description for me would be that the Pro2 sound compressed and one dimensional. Good dynamics, frequency range, even decent resolution. The APMax have much better resolution, a BIGGER sound, much better sound stage, and sound like they have less computational magic going on to make them sound good. I also feel that I can easily listen the Max's for hours, where as I feel like I need a break from the Pro 2's after an hour or so. The Max's will be my home headphones until.... the Max 2's!

Yes. I just upgraded. I’m not an audiophile so I’m not sure I can tell the difference between the sound quality. but there are definitely times when I prefer to wear the headphones and some respects they’re more comfortable, in other respects are less comfortable.
The new adaptive audio feature will definitely mean that the AirPods will be better in certain situations where I might have to talk to people.

I have had the AirPods max for about a year and they are my favorite headphones ever. I replaced my AirPods Pro (1st gen) with the AirPods Max and simply having an over-ear phone within all of the features of the AirPods pro but nearly 4X the usable battery life is just awesome. For me, in ear headphones and over-ear headphones are simply impossible to compare because of the comfort that come with over-ear headphones. I kept my AirPods Pro because when I am outside of my house, there is no replacement for the convenience of earbuds.

Thanks for this. Just bought the AirPods 2 last month, and I love them (And I loved the 1st generation, which I just sold yesterday). And I always use the Apple Watch for volume, but I also wear the Apple Watch at night, and while it is a minor new feature, I LOVE the fact that I can charge the AirPods 2 with the Apple Watch charger while my iPhone is on the MagSafe charger. The sound quality is better, and the noise reduction is night and day. And the extra battery life really helps.
Chears for saving me £300 means alot, I likes the airpods better anyway.
I have had AirPods Pro 2 for a year now and bought a pair of AirPods Max, expecting them to sound way better. As bizarre as it sounds, AirPods Pro 2 does sound slightly better. On my last flight to Japan, I would have been better off with the Max for sure though.
Totally agree Mark, another great video. The AirPods Pro 2's are the best earphones I have ever had, they are just amazing. I'm not really a fan of big headphones if I'm being honest, and the combination to convenience, battery life, amazing sound, Dolby Atmos, noise cancelling, integration and improved waterproofing makes this unbeatable for me as an all-round package. I will of course be interested in seeing what Apple do with Max 2's though.... I have to wonder what Apple were thinking with the stupid bra and always being on, just ridiculous.

The homepod has a better processor than the homepod mini with the Apple watch processor. The AirPods Pro 2 sounds better than AirPods max
To each their own but the sound quality is just on a different level on the Max. I don't mind the weight and it actually feels more comfortable for me than in-ears like the Pro 2 which hurt after a few hours. One major consideration is that hardly anyone is buying the Max at full MSRP, and you can get a good condition second-hand pair for around the same as new AirPods Pro 2. Then again they are built for different purposes (Pro 2 portability vs Max quality).
I wouldnt buy used. There is plenty fakes that are very close and even have real apple serial numbers on them

@@asant90 yeah, don't buy used unless you really know what you're doing. the counterfeits are getting pretty sophisticated. like harvesting parts from the airpods in order to make the fakes do things like get detected by iOS. or creating frankenstein headphones out of the parts of many different pairs and then selling them to you as if it is isn't.

Great comparison, and I agree for the most part. The one area where I disagree is about the transparency mode. Adaptive transparency on the Pro 2 is brilliant but in general with transparency mode on the Pro 2 they emphasize mid to high frequencies which is definitely useful from a safety perspective but it does sound unnatural whereas with transparency mode on the APM they simply disappear and sound like they're not being worn at all. As far as charging goes my APM are permanently hooked up to a USB charger when I'm not using them so for me the fact they can't be turned off hasn't been an issue. That being said, my APM do live at home for the most part and unless I'm going on a very long train ride or flying somewhere, the ones I take with me daily are the Pro 2's.

Have you noticed a drop in battery life from charging all day?
@@fruitykrueger I certainly haven't noticed any drastic drop in capacity though in fairness the longest I tend to use them in any one session is around 6 hours so if for example the battery life has dropped from ~20 to say 18 hours then I wouldn't necessarily notice.
I own both, they each have their pros and cons depending on how you want to use them. NC in my opinion is better on the Maxes but still very very good on the pros.
I own both and mainly use them daily at the gym. The APM has better noise cancellation and transparency when it comes to the gym and the noise of the weights. It was a night and day difference compared to the pro 2s. When I have the pro 2s in I constantly have to check if my Noise cancellation is on because of how much sound that goes through. They both sound great with the APMs having a slight edge.
If it wasn’t for the APMs flawed design of them clanking together and the ultra non-portable bra I would have kept them as my daily. The Pro2s portability just can’t be beat, it’s not as flexy though.

@@yuding237 it's subjective. Even if you objectively prove the APP2 is better using objective tools, our ears and brains aren't objective tools. your mileage may vary.
For ANC feature, yes APM maybe better, however the AP2 can seal your ears much better and its enough to block noise from outside even without the help of Noise cancellation.. Transparency mode is also better on AirPods Pro series.. probably due to better mic as well.

not a daily apple user... but the airpods max is intriguing... a deal breaker for me is the low power mode and the USB C... Considering that I charge most things via USB C, apple really needs to make that switch and they need to give the option to turn off the headphones so I dont get battery range anxiety.
I’d agree, generally. The APM do have advantages but on the APP2, there is an immediacy to the vocals, an almost ‘analogue’ presentation that’s actually an improvement over the APM.
(BTW - for my money the sound from the APP2 is the best on the market. They are better than the Sony and Bose equivalents to my ears. The Sony are too narrow and clinical and the mid range of the Bose is muddy).

I got the AirPods Max after the AirPods Pro and I feel the AirPods Max are way better. They feel amazing for actually feeling the bass and it rumble on your air. Very comfortable but too pricey. But I feel they’ll last me many years.
I'm sorry but Airpod Pro 2 may sound better than gen 1 but the Max still sound 2x better. Soundstaging, separation, and detail are SIGNIFICANTLY better on airpod Max. Now obviously it isn't a fair fight (over ear vs ear bud) but seriously you cannot choose the pro over the max for sound quality.
Noise cancelling, comfort, value, etc all make a compelling case but not pure audio quality.

I recently sold my airPods Max and got the second generation pros. I like the pros so much more. The portability, they charge via magSafe and now USB C on the case, the sound quality is more than good enough for me, and something I haven't seen anyone mention in these comments: the airPods Pro 2 get so many awesome iOS 17 features. The Max get barely anything.

3:32 That background rumble you’re hearing is a result of the design flaw of the design of the pros 1. Stuff building up in that mesh next to one of the ear detection sensors makes the noise canceling worse and have that rumble effect

I’ve been going back and forth on whether to get these for a while given that I have both the 1st Gen AirPods Pro and Max. This video helped me in deciding to give the the 2nd Gen a shot, thank you Mark.
The 2nd Gen AirPods Pro are definitely very very good value for money in comparison to the AirPods Max. I wouldn’t say the sound of APP2 overall is necessarily better than the Max but it is a fraction of the APM both in terms of size and ££ amount !
With that said I’m very excited to see how the APM2 will perform when it finally arrives. I wouldn’t spend ~500 on on APM1 now tho given it’s approaching its 3 years of release..
I have AirPods Max and the only reason I like them is because they’re pretty hard to lose and they’re also stylish. I’ve owned 2 pairs of AirPods and idk how but I misplace one piece both times
Call me ridiculous...but I've already got the Max but am now considering a pair of Pros even though I honestly don't have a specific need or use for earbuds.
I also own both and IMPO the APM are more detailed, open and balanced vs the Pro 2 which are amazing buds but suffer from a slightly lack of detail and a touch to much bass for balance. They are a fantastic upgrade over the Pro 1 as the NC is a also big step up as is the sound overall (less high mids, rounder highs and much more low end - great when you’re in a noisy environ but a little too much when it’s quiet). I definitely prefer the sound quality of the APM over the Pro 1/2. I have no issues with the battery life of my APM. The ‘bra’ case is useful but a power button would have been greatly appreciated. For what they cost the Pro 2 is the pick naturally but I love my APM and they are my inside headphones. They are also much more comfortable to wear for long periods and have better battery life (you don’t need to charge them half way through the day).
How fast does you APM drain battery? In my experience I have to charge it every week with light usage (1-2 hour/day). My other headphones could last a month with similar usage.

I have to disagree with you. I have ears where none of the different ear tips passed the ear fit test and noise cancelation was never possible. Often I had to raise the volume with the AirPods pro2. I bought the AirPods Max to maybe protect my hearing. What a difference.! With AirPods Max, I get high quality sound, noise cancellation, transparency and I don't need to have the volume too high. I can connect the charging wire to one of my thunderbolt ports on my MacBook Pro. I don't have a problem with lightning, since my Magic Mouse charges that way.

They are both very good options, but for noise cancellation alone AirPods Max win hands down. But AirPods Pro 2 are far better for portability. I have both and both daily depending on where I’m using them.
In a quiet room, I did a quick comparison between the AirPod Pro 2 and the 1More Sonoflow head phones (over ear). These are $99 headphones. First, the Sonoflow’s do produce great sound. ANC and transparency mode may be inferior to the higher end headphones. Honestly, the Sonoflow’s sounded better than the AirPod Pro 2. I believe this is attributable to their excellent sound profile and also that they are over the ear- offering a resonance and open chamber feel earbuds cannot match. The AirPod Max is a higher quality headphone, over 5x the price, so I have to assume they would sound even better.
In a loud setting, the AirPod Pro may have better ANC, and the experience might be better than most over the ear consumer headphones. However, noisy settings is not my use case.
Airpods Max last less than 20 hours, because of battery degradation, that being said Airpods pro are still better since they are portable with a case, just pop it in and you're done + the case wirelessly charges which is a massive pro.
My experience is that AirPods Max have too much fabric and ear cushion to block out most sounds even with ANC on. I’ve found that the AirPods Pro 2 have a massive increase in noise cancelling function over the Max. It’s quieter for sure.

Probably. But for work/personal calls at home (not taking these out except on a plane), or listening to TV, I find the over-ear more comfortable. If I were exercising with these outside the house I would want the ear bud. I did buy the blue version of the case Mark recommended, much sturdier for travel than the training bra the Max come with and power save does work.
Bought the stand too, the non-charging one, and I’m glad I did. I have a tendency to throw things around and the stand helps me remember.
apple air pod max movie experience with spatial audio blows anything I have experienced in the market. It truely is an immersive experience. so for me apple airpod max is definitely a buy. Of course, sony xm 5 or something has better sound where you can hear the music instruments separately. But I think high quality music and general conversation together are hard to capture in one device. sony xm 5 is not as good for phone conversation.
Higher price is not necessarily a benchmark for better sound quality. Or anything else for that matter. Too many chumps out there who seem to think otherwise, however!
I have the AirPods Pro 2 and getting the max today I’m going to let my mom use my AirPods Pro’s 2 I wonder how the apx sound I can’t wait!!
As someone who do not like to poke stuffs into my ear canal, it’s AirPods Max all the way. As with all Apple products, quality and most importantly of all, seamless integration within Apple’s ecosystem. Heck the slightly inferior sound quality. It’s Bluetooth anyway with its inherent bandwidth limitations. If I were to insist on top notch sound quality, I will simply reach for a pair of audiophile grade wired headphones, connect it with suitable DAC and amps combo and enjoy music indoors. Life is about compromising. Peace ✌️

Both devices are brilliant but still works best for very different use cases - over-the-ear-AirPods Max excel for deep focus/isolation work and more serious listening of music and movies in a comfy chair AND the AirPods Pro 2 are great for everything else. The biggest advantage is their portability, which is why I take mine with me everywhere I go. I’d say people who prefer headphones to ear buds already know all the pros and cons, and they’re also aware that there are better sounding headphones on the market. In that regard, AirPods Pro 2 wins best in category, whereas AirPods Max are in much more competitive field.
I just purchased the Max and found through a side by side with my updated pro 2 models that the Pro 2 sound better. And I will not be returning the Max to the store.

Reviewers constantly moan about the lack of USB C, however in my house we have multiple iPhones, iPads and yes AirPods. The last thing we need is USB C and therefore a different charger. For our usage it would just be inconvenient! I would argue there are many out there that would feel the same?
I have both. I just got the AirPods Max as a gift. I truly believe the sound is great on the AirPods Max.
But the AirPods pro2 are jus slightly better fit in ear headphones it’s easily the best in ear headphones on the market. A huge upgrade over the pro 1s.
But the AirPods Max really takes noise cancellations to the next level and i love it’s transparency mode. But the AirPods Pro 2 are a better headphone. But I do believe if apple comes out with the max 2. They gonna blow the AirPods Pro 2 out the water.
Apple needs too upgrade rhe max and make them lighter and make the controls alittle easier to use.
But I believe both are great. But the AirPods Pro 2 are easily the best headphones I’ve ever used.
I don’t know if it’s certain models of the AirPods Max but they sound considerably worse than my app2. The first pair I bought stopped working after about a month.
