I was surprised that you took this section of his Vision story literally: "He was unsuited to having so many "family members." There was no real warmth or feelings between them. They were simply a motley crew of clockwork meka, each of a slightly different model and outward appearance." There's never been any question in my mind that it was referring to the other children as metaphorical clockwork, the same way Freminet thinks of himself.

Along with so much other stuff in Genshin the diving thing is an Ar Tonelico reference where "diving" is the process of delving into the inner mind of a Reyvateil, Reyvateils being artificially made part-robot/computer(?) beings who can use song magic. Relevant to some new stuff from Zenless Zone Zero proxy dives are also possible where (at least the way it's used in AT2) another reyvateil can dive along with the intended diver to protect them if things go wrong in the cosmosphere and prevent them from actually dying so that's probably where ZZZ ideas of proxies comes from. Also they may have picked the name Freminet to match with Frelia the Goddess/Origin Reyvateil/admin of the 2nd Tower of Ar Tonelico. The thing with him hiding Clervie, a shadow who can't get older, is somehow relevant when Frelia is the only Origin Reyvatail actually capable of getting older.
It is not specifically stated, but I think Freminet misunderstood the adults purchasing the toy penguins. I think the adults in question were mostly parents getting them for children. Also, the penguins seem to sell better than Freminet mentioned, at least according to the guy selling the toys.
