Ruger is on fire with their offerings. I'm not the biggest Ruger person, but they're putting out a more diverse selection of quality firearms than any other company I can think of. Browning is in that running too, but they need to offer a few more things. Who wouldn't want to see a Browning 1911?
Who wants a .380 1911 though? Anything less than.45acp isn't a real 1911. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they get them from another manufacturer and slap their own stamp on it.
chzzg269, I'm with you. My first pistol was a 22/45 with a bull barrel. I sold it because it was a pain to get back together after cleaning. I bought an SR9 about three years ago. I put about 150 rounds every week through it, and have ever since I got it. That gun just flat out SHOOTS. If I do my part it puts 'em right in there. I'm looking at 1911's and Ruger is at the top of my list.
Chad I have to tell you as another 1911 owner it is really refreshing to see someone who uses the slide release rather than pull back on the slide to chamber the first round. I have Springfield 1911 and the was one of the first thing I did to it was to get an extended slide release so I could manipulate the gun with one hand
My wife and I have the full size SR1911, a Lightweight CMD .45, and a Lightweight CMD .9mm. My wife carries the .9mm, and I carry the Lightweight CMD .45 (among other guns). She carries hers in a fanny bag, and I use a DeSantis Mad Max IWB holster. We've had zero problems, and they are exceptionally accurate.
SR1911 owner here: absolutely love the gun. The failure to feed issues are common while the gun is new and tight. I actually swapped out the recoil spring for a 16 lb spring, the factory spring is rated at 18.5. That seemed to do the trick
Polishing the feed ramp really helps overcome some of the feed issues. Using factory ammunition also reduces feed issues. I used to shoot "Black Hills" ammo and just had feed issue after feed issue especially with my Thompson. It just seemed like the loading was a bit weak. When I switched over to shooting Federal and Winchester ammunition the problems went away.
Agreed... nice entry-level platform with room for upgrading. It's so expensive now to start out with a really high quality 1911, especially with modern platforms being competitively priced, you'd really have to just want one for the nostalgia of it.
I love the heavy all steel 1911 style pistols. As far as purchasing, I went with competition level, full dust jacket bull barrel 19 rounds. So much fun to shoot!
5:40 As funny as that was, this also can help serve as a important lesson for newer shooters. Always know what's behind the target. Yes, it was just a 2 liter soda, but had that been a situation where active response was needed, that could have been a innocent bystander. Not ragging on nor bashing the channel, just figure that'd be a good lesson to show and further explain to newer shooters gun safety and knowing what's down range.
Brian Coleman are you stupid, when your carrying you don't carry ball ammo for that very reason you carry a hollow point cause that wont go through as much as ball ammo, what a little armature 12 year old.
First of all, someone needs a hug and a snickers. Second of all, I am still learning the in's and out's of firearms and ammo. Third of all, while I do appreciate your valuable input, I must reject your negativity, as I've already got enough of that in my own life, dealing with bills, keeping the family fed, the car running, and the lights on. Fourth of all, I do believe that you meant "Amateur", not "Armature", since "Amateur" means one whom has little understanding and is looking to learn, while "Armature" means either: A.) A form of armor. B.) A electromagnetic lock that engages with a electric current and C.) A skeletal frame work that of which supports a clay, wax or a plaster sculpture.
You also have seemed to have missed the context of the meaning of my original post. I'm talking about having a clear sight behind your target and knowing what is behind it. Not the difference between ball ammo and hollow point ammo.
+ Brian Coleman, actually I was calling you a skeletal frame work that supports a clay, wax or a plaster sculpture, that was made 12 years ago, but thanks for trying to prove me wrong.
Leave it to CHAD: "I've gotta get used to this crisp single action trigger" You rarely ever hear anyone blame the trigger of a 1911 for there unimpressive group size! Lol..
@@chaboi7 Iv never had a ftf with the factory mags with any ammo but I have had a few only with different mags. I changed this to my EDC because of the quality of it and the trigger matches me perfectly... not to mention the accuracy and the fact that it doesn't print like I thought it would...
@@TheUSMC17 yeah man, when it comes to 1911's I'm sticking to Ruger, ria, sig and I think that's it, no need to be overpaying for stuff, the Ruger sr1911 Navy seals edition is still one of the best guns I've ever owned and I've had tons...it was accurate as all get out too.
I just bought a Desert Eagle 1911 stainless steel and it's an amazing gun for the price. MSRP is $900 but I go it for $700 on Sportsman's Guide. I wanted a threaded barrel but their not many factory 1911s out there with a factory threaded barrel and its a shame, 1911s are great suppressor hosts.
The adjustment screw on the trigger you are referring to only adjusts trigger slop... If you go too far in with it, you can render it inoperative. Have a trigger job done to it. A good gunsmith can do a safe trigger down to around 2 lbs. if you want. I did my own and have it set at 4 lbs. It is amazing. Best pistol trigger ever designed.
Eric is to humble to say hes a good shooter. how nice are these guys? ive watched enough videos by now to know both of you are pretty dang good marksmen. and that includes ol Barry too.
nice video. i'm a 1911 owner love it great weapon , served our country for many years the best john browning design for hand held weapons , well proven in combat
I have a Springfield Range officer loaded and it shoots really well!!! Yours shoots better than the other 1911 Rugers I have shot. I also have most of the same mags you do. I very very rarely have any Malfunctions. If I load my magazines properly I never have a mag malfunction like you had. I am sure Ray can make it into a tack driver. Great video!!!!!!!!!!
You didn't mention that it doesn't have the firing pin safety (Colt model 70 vs 80)! Huge bonus. I added a full length guide rod to mine and it is one of my best shooting handguns. Love your videos by the way...
My SR1911 Lightweight Commander has had a few failure to feed issues during PPC matches. Good and bad, bad cuz it happens sometimes, good cuz I can clear malfunctions quickly and get back on target. Good practice I suppose. Seems to happen more with colt brand mags.
i love my SR1911 but one thing i learned is that if you use reloaded ammo in it it does not want to load the first round of every full mag. maybe it was just my specific gun however just a head's up if you consider purchasing one
I've read that some of the feeding issues on any 1911 has been caused by the magazine. 1911 is finicky about what magazine you use, plus it helps if the barrel throat was polished.
Don't feel bad Chad I've yet to join the 1911 club myself. I've been thinking about getting one though, I figure I can use it to practice malfunction drills.
I have a lightweight cmdr sr1911 that always has trouble with power mags. The factory mags and wilsons work great, but I still stopped carrying it anyway lol.
Replace all those Powermag springs and followers with Tripp Cobra mags. I did and my SA1911 runs perfectly now. Better than my Wilson Combat ETM magazines.
Another great vid, I just picked up the rock island 1911 a1 tactical , has about a 4 lb trigger, it's a great shooting gun . I have the ruger sr45 and the r. I . Has less recoil then the ruger. Paid only 460 so quiet pleased. Thanks Eric and Chad
I like G10 Grips that are a reddish-orange color with black highlights. Like a Tiger's markings and color. I think the Ruger and the Remington 1911s are great handguns for the dollar, but the surprise 1911 is my Taurus PT1911. It's actually my favorite shooter.
Chad I feel you in regards to the 1911 trigger vs a striker fired gun. i picked up a 1911 a few days ago and it shoots great but I definitely need to get used to that trigger.
I own the first run of this pistol. when ruger first released them they had an issue with the finish pitting. but overall for rugers first run (or at least the first 1911 that ruger produced that I am aware of) it's an excellent gun for the price.
Army should have gone with ruger for their new sidearm, troops are saying they are not fond of the sigs. More money and not even made here. Some palms were greased on that one.
I wouldn't say its a bare bones gun....thats a 1911A1... the Ruger is more like the best of the basic 1911... series 70, target trigger, extended beaver tail...etc. What one would do to a GI style 1911 if they had one and the SR1911 has all that out of the box.
true but that really doesn't bother me ...I wouldn't carry a 1911 so it would just be a range gun and as for MIM parts again its not a big deal either.
Chad the 1911 is a reliable accurate platform but they do have a long break in time on the pistol and the mags. they are a different animal than striker fired pistols. Break her in good before you judge her bro. Great vid guys keep it up..
Safety Sally says, "maybe look at putting your mags on the left hand side of the shooter. Noticed a couple times reaching in front of barrel w/ & w/o a loaded mag."
I am looking into buying one these for open carry, not the target model though but I'm glad you guys are reviewing it. It'll be my first handgun when I turn 21.
Gotta test the mags in your guns when it comes to 1911's, especially given there are THREE types of feed lip designs floating out there. My gun, a Thompson Custom 1911 with some Wilson guts dropped in works the best with the "wadcutter" and "Hybrid" feed lip designs. The GI type feed lips give me the most issues.
I'm new to 1911s also. Just got my SR1911 a couple months ago but man..... Chad, you've had more feed issues in one video with your target SR than I have ever had with my 500 rounds of ball/Range ammo with my SR1911 plain Jane Ruger. 😜 Good shootin tho. Love the videos guys! 😎😎
my sr1911 was all factory and i mainly shot freedom munitions 230gr reman fmj out of it. i bought it for $650ish, put a couple hundred rounds through it and resold it for the same $650. i loved the way it looked and i was very accurate with it. i only ran wilson combat 47d 8rd mags in it because i have a lot of them. my stock sights never broke off which was apparently an earlier problem. ive got another 1911 gov (5in) that has the grip bobtailed but the fullsize ruger was more comfortable to shoot with the full grip. my bobtail 1911 has a full length guide rod unfortunately. i like the gi style recoil system for takedown. i had a sig 1911 scorpion for a while which also was very nice...aside from the scorpion grips and paintjob. it was the sig profile not the traditional model which i did not like aesthetically. ive got a springfield lightweight champion operator in .45 now which is a little snappy but carries easier. ive also got a kimber 9mm tac pro II which shoots and carries like a dream but is more of a range gun. when i carry a .45 it is an hk uspc which i have full confidence in. i like the rugers a lot. rock island is very popular. i didnt like how the desert eagle 1911 says it across the slide. i had a gi model remington so i cant speak on the r1. cant speak on the other 1911s like ati, citadel and whatever the others are. i do believe money is well spent and kept with buying the ruger. id opt for the commander if you can find it or the 9mm. i also like the s&w e series and sig 1911's but not for my only 1911 never played with a dan wesson or springfield trp but they seem to be the next step up
jacob manalang That’s crazy. Took it to my local gun shop after 2 years and purchasing it for about $700 and they offered me $200. I told them “so I bough a rock island 1911 from you for $425 and sold it back to you after 4 years for $200 and you are giving me the same for a nicer gun?” He had nothing to say. First time I ever called someone a piece of shit to their face and first time I was told to leave a gun store. Figure I’ll keep the gun.
I think it's time for a RUclips shoot off. Eric, Chad, Hickok, MAC, 22plinkster. Different calibers and distances. Maybe a bring your own gun challenge or two then a everyone shoots the same gun. Put everyone's talent and skill to the test.
I'm an average height small build guy, and I've conceal carried a full size Magnum Research 1911 for years. I acknowledge that I'm sacrificing capacity by doing so, but my reasoning is this; I have 4000 rounds through it and I've had 2 malfunctions. 1) Remington "match grade" Ammunition squib load, 2) I limp wristed it on the 2nd round of the first mag I put through it. I get a kick out of the fact that a small build guy like me can carry a full size WWII duty gun completely concealed. I know 1911s have a reputation, but I think you'll find that if you have a modern gun you'll get what you pay for.
not being from a "gun nut!" friendly country, it amazes me how many companys make a 1911 model, ive never fired one, gonna add that to the list of guns to try next time im abroad. love the vids, even though im as jealous as f#@k when ya are shooting on the range!lol!. all the best mateys!.
Connor Pettit , cheers for replying!, my list grows from day to day!, ive shot loads of pistols but the 1911 has been one i really want to try. when i worked abroad i mainly used sigs and rifles. also wanna try a really old 6 shooter!. all the best.
The Bell45 aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh, yes me laddo!!lol!, years back it was my job to defend ships from attacks from them, but no cutlasses or muskets in sight, just a.k's!!lol!
Congrats on getting a 1911. I have many buddies that have them and they say I'm "unamerican" as well. To be honest, when I was a teenager I wanted a S&W 4506, so that is what I ended up buying. I have never had 1 failure to fire with that pistol. It also fits my hand better than a 1911. I've shot a lot of my friends 1911's, but they are too thin for my liking. I have big mitts and prefer the bigger grip of the 4506. When my buddies start talking shit, I have to remind them in a little friendly competition like a dueling tree or bowling pin shoot, then the shit talking goes away.. They take their ass whipping and I don't hear much after that for a while. So don't feel bad. With your pistol, I'd throw that mag away that was giving you issues. NO one wants a ill feeding pistola. Also, the groups you guys were shooting, were not real impressive. Its been over 5 years since you released this video, it it still shooting like that, or has it gotten better over time????
I have owned (past tense) 3 1911's....at times I think about buying another because they are so sexy and iconic, but if anything, will lean towards the 9mm varity. After all, if it is just a range toy, might as well go for cheeper ammo
I'd love to see this offered with a carbon-steel frame and slide. Parkerized or blued. I'm not picky. If you ever do decide to carry one of these or even if it is used for home defense use, I would suggest using a good quality seven-round magazine.
My Ruger SR1911 Target has a far better trigger from the factory than any of the Glocks, S&W M&Ps, etc that I've owned. Those striker fire pistols all have had gritty, heavy, sloppy triggers instead of the crisp break of the SR1911.
I love my Ruger SR1911Ss. Of course, I also love my Remington 1911R1S. The first 1911 I bought was a Remington 1911R1. I wanted a stainless, but they didn't have one at the time, so I settled on a blue. When I got my Ruger stainless 1911s I gave my blue to one of my boys. I kick myself for doing that now, but it's okay.
This notion that Ruger 1911s are the greatest pistols ever is the biggest load of BS ever concocted in the firearms community! Of all the 1911s I have shot the Ruger and the Remington R1 are the ONLY 1911s I have ever had frames crack!
Glad to see Eric finally got some bigger glasses. I was watching some older videos and it made me want to start a go fund me campaign to get him some new ones xD jk great vids guys
it's funny you put up this video and I'm on my way to the range with my SR1911 that I have done some work to their amazing guns great video man keep it up
1911 has been in use for over 100yrs.served in several wars and In my opinion no trigger is better than a 1911 and there just cool guns. Looks like a SR1911 in 10mm is next on my list.
Great shooting! And a really fun range - I'm envious! I used to have a Colt 1911 (series 80 stainless steel) and it was always my favorite to shoot, but for cleaning and maintenance, I'd take my Glock 20 any day. To completely strip the 1911, it would take me a half hour with a bench, a handful of tools and the manual open in front of me. The Glock took 5 seconds, no tools! Seriously! But the Glock just didn't fit in my hand the way the 1911 did. Oh, well.
yeah the 1911 is a pain to strip down especially when you but the guide rod and a comp on it. But like someone else mentioned it is 2017 and we are still talking about the 1911, I wonder will the Glock have the same thing happen in 106 yrs.
Can you do a video on the best ways or if there is an easier way to get a class 3 lisence. It looks impossible but maybe there are some better ways to go about doing so than what I've so far seen.
"The Lord said. Thou shall not muck with my deciepel John's work, for it is good and it worketh. And lowe all of his weapons from the designs which I the lord gave him upon the mountain. And shouldst thou muck with it, and hang all manner of foul implements upon it, and profain its internal parts. Thou shall surely have malfunctions and in the midst of battle thou shall surely come to harm" -The Gospel of Browning, read by "Gun Jesus"
It's funny. Everyone always says 1911's are unreliable (and you do see some of that in the video) but I have never had a single issue with my stock cheapo SAM Elite 1911, and it was only $450 when I bought it.
Ruger is on fire with their offerings. I'm not the biggest Ruger person, but they're putting out a more diverse selection of quality firearms than any other company I can think of. Browning is in that running too, but they need to offer a few more things. Who wouldn't want to see a Browning 1911?

chzzyg269 do like ruger did and offer in original 45acp first and then bring out 9mm to keep everyone satisfied.
chzzg269, I'm with you. My first pistol was a 22/45 with a bull barrel. I sold it because it was a pain to get back together after cleaning. I bought an SR9 about three years ago. Correct, the Ruger is like a Series 70 with no firing pin safety. Series 80 and most newer models have the safety
I have promags for my RIA 1911 and then run awesome, no hiccups. Great shooting guys 👍🏽💪🏽🙏🏽🇺🇸
"I was staring to think that soda was a hologram" LOL! I'm going to steal that line!
Awesome to get home from work and watch another IV8888 episode! And another one of my favourite rounds 45 Auto
Welcome to the club, Chad. 1911's are just plain fun to shoot! Nothing like a good 1911 trigger and the pleasant push of the 45 acp!
That would look absolutely beautiful with a blued finish.

ThePartyDog totally agree.

Hi its Me lmfao

I have had issues with 10 round Chip magazines in the past. The springs wear on them quickly.

Really like my SR1911, had some 10 round after market mag problems, went with OEM mags - problem solved!
my sr1911 was all factory and i mainly shot freedom munitions 230gr reman fmj out of it. i bought it for $650ish, put a couple hundred rounds through it and resold it for the same $650.
i loved the way it looked and i was very accurate with it. i only ran wilson combat 47d 8rd mags in it because i have a lot of them.
my stock sights never broke off which was apparently an earlier problem.
ive got another 1911 gov (5in) that has the grip bobtailed but the fullsize ruger was more comfortable to shoot with the full grip.
my bobtail 1911 has a full length guide rod unfortunately. i like the gi style recoil system for takedown.
i had a sig 1911 scorpion for a while which also was very nice...aside from the scorpion grips and paintjob. it was the sig profile not the traditional model which i did not like aesthetically.
ive got a springfield lightweight champion operator in .45 now which is a little snappy but carries easier. ive also got a kimber 9mm tac pro II which shoots and carries like a dream but is more of a range gun.
when i carry a .45 it is an hk uspc which i have full confidence in.
i like the rugers a lot. rock island is very popular. i didnt like how the desert eagle 1911 says it across the slide. i had a gi model remington so i cant speak on the r1.
cant speak on the other 1911s like ati, citadel and whatever the others are.
i do believe money is well spent and kept with buying the ruger. id opt for the commander if you can find it or the 9mm.
i also like the s&w e series and sig 1911's but not for my only 1911
never played with a dan wesson or springfield trp but they seem to be the next step up
jacob manalang
That’s crazy.
Figure I’ll keep the gun.
...those McCormick mags are EXCELLENT - been using them since ca 1991 or so
wifes loves her rugers she shot the sr1911 like a champ. thinking it might be her next present this christmas that or a ruger ar15
Connor Pettit , cheers for replying!, my list grows from day to day!, ive shot loads of pistols but the 1911 has been one i really want to try. when i worked abroad i mainly used sigs and rifles. also wanna try a really old 6 shooter!. all the best.
mateys , are you a pirate at sea
The Bell45 aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh, yes me laddo!!lol!, years back it was my job to defend ships from attacks from them, but no cutlasses or muskets in sight, just a.k's!!lol!
darn somolians
The Bell45 yep, the bastards!!, thankfully i never went face to face with any, once they knew we were armed to the teeth, they soon went away.
With reliable mags it would be a great self defense gun ( 1911/45acp ) .
Have you tried the Mighty 460 Rowland upgrade kit. It give the 1911 44 mag power!!!
Man, this is bizarre, you are usually such a great shot. Thx great video.
Eric brother you're the FIRST person I've heard that said the full length guide rod makes a difference
I just picked up an SR 1911 as my first 1911 as well!
Absolutely agree!! Best trigger I have ever shot!!!!
My Colt Commander doesn't like Chip McCormick mags, either. No issues with the factory mags.
I don't like the tone you took with that 1911 lol. love it and she will love you back
Have had one for a few years, I'll put it up against any Kimber for accuracy.
Chad is the Nomar Garciaparra of firearms. Great videos guys, love the channel.
You should try the Rock Island 1911 they rock
Show me a Rock Island 1911 that is similar to Ruger for the same price point.
MrBrad122394 i have one. Even with a stainless threaded barrel
Glad to see Eric finally got some bigger glasses. I was watching some older videos and it made me want to start a go fund me campaign to get him some new ones xD jk great vids guys
it's funny you put up this video and I'm on my way to the range with my SR1911 that I have done some work to their amazing guns great video man keep it up
Always like your video's. Especially when you guys are having trouble hitting things like I do occasionally.
I love mine I had slide ported g 10 grips and no hickups.
1911 has been in use for over 100yrs.served in several wars and In my opinion no trigger is better than a 1911 and there just cool guns. Looks like a SR1911 in 10mm is next on my list.
sweet . hope you had a good 4th July . ATB lads
Chad is a good shot, his finger game must be impeccable.
Despite being ~$1,000, you can spend your $1,000 on so much worse. Like a Kimber.
Or fake tits.
+Yan Doroshenko looool you win
Yan Doroshenko comment of the year
Operator_As_Fck best 1911 production gun period. id do unforgivable things to own one of those.
Operator_As_Fck where can you get one at that price I'm just wondering
Eric, try with your right arm keeping it straight and see if it helps with your shooting.
Only if someone makes a gun that strips and cleans itself! LOL!
Eric, nice to see you carry a 1911 from time to time. :)
Speaking of catching flak, any chance of getting a Flak cannon and shooting stuff with it? :3
What do you carry, a Derringer or a Hi-Point ?
Could you guys do a review of one of the "Carry Sized" EAA Witnesses? Bonus points for one of the 10mm ones as that is what I'm pondering for an EDC.
Hey is that a public range I've been looking for a new spot I shop at the store every now and then
8:16 Holy shit, they were both wearing like the same color clothing and hat!
Can you do a video on the best ways or if there is an easier way to get a class 3 lisence. It looks impossible but maybe there are some better ways to go about doing so than what I've so far seen.
So any generic 1911 magazine should work?
"The Lord said. Thou shall not muck with my deciepel John's work, for it is good and it worketh. And lowe all of his weapons from the designs which I the lord gave him upon the mountain. And shouldst thou muck with it, and hang all manner of foul implements upon it, and profain its internal parts. Thou shall surely have malfunctions and in the midst of battle thou shall surely come to harm"
-The Gospel of Browning, read by "Gun Jesus"
Yes ol Hickok 45 wears some fancy pants sometimes!
It's funny. Everyone always says 1911's are unreliable (and you do see some of that in the video) but I have never had a single issue with my stock cheapo SAM Elite 1911, and it was only $450 when I bought it.
Merry Christmas, guys! Is the ambi safety an option from Ruger or is that an aftermarket addition?
Love 1911's, I'm surprised the grass under the soda bottle gallery is still green with all the chemicals they put in such beverages....
Chad's like, "eeehhhh this is stupid. I'm gonna sell it."
What a great pistol...everyone I know that own's one love's it!........enjoy Chad!...KEEP ON ROCKIN IT!.....Iraqveteran8888........
Enjoyed it guys - Thanks!
