    Top notch content, Clear and to the point video...
    As you rightly mentioned, 5 minutes of the designer’s time sums up their vast experience collected over the years...
    People always think why the Doctor charges 1000₹ for a 10 minute appointment..what they fail to understand is its their lifetime of investment in education, time, money and experience which makes them capable of where they are...
    We should respect a professional and their expertise and not consider everything a DIY...

    Dear Nihara Ma'am, this video was very informative but more to a designer rather than from a client's perspective...even after watching the full video I was unable to decide on the total budget I should keep for interior designing....even if I agree to the 'per square feet' thing its range may vary hugely...as clients we need to get a justification of the amount we spend

    The hourly rate works best because u are doing it by effort basis. Thats most industries best practice. Having it charged by project cost % is simply incorrect. I would disagree that if u lay a tile worth 150 psqft vs 500 psqft the customer should not pay additional to the designer because they wanted better tiles.The skilled labour would do it anyway and that finishing & quality is the responsibility of execution & what gets u more business later. Hence most customers who opt for this since it end up in arguments and fights feeling cheated. Charging by carpet area is also not practical but can be considered as eventually the designer amount is fixed and doesn’t vary. This gives more flexibility to both sides. However there is room for negotiation when lets say ur carpet area of 1500 sqft has a balcony of 300 sqft and assuming which needs no work at all then it should be excluded from carpet area. Basically the charges should be based on hours invested in getting a carpet area done. It should not be fixed for the entire house but by section and hours. That works out best.

    Good explanation, but should have made short, anyways good. I have one doubt. What is carpet area? Is that just means floor? Or design of surrounding walls etc? Because I have a 100 sft plan with all walls and secret chambers underfloor, which came around 1200 sft. Carpet area is 100 only I guess. So do you charge only for floor design of 100feet?

  • @saugatabhattacharyya34
    @saugatabhattacharyya34 4 года назад +6

    “How” you charge is as important as “what” you charge. Any professional is usually monitored by a body of peers belonging to the same profession. The nature of monitoring is often only regulatory. But one comes to know how much he/she should charge and in what fashion by interacting with his/her peers in that regulatory body. It acts as a benchmark against which one can fix his/her own fees. Next comes the market. How much you charge really depends on the amount that your clientele actually pay. It will be different for varying clientele. Only the elite professionals can lay back and say that I won’t work if I do not get paid according to my desire. The bottom-line is that your fees get manipulated by what others are charging for a similar job as well as where/ with what kind of client you are working.
