Yeah but how often do you see the citizens plan more thoroughly for the constant attacks? And sure, the Ninja aren't great at their jobs but to outright replace them is even worse in my opinion.
The scene with the reveals of Harumi's lies was so elegant and careful. I had to revise the scene several times in english and my native language. Ninjago's music composers revealed that strings are villain theme instrument in show. When Lloyd trying to piece his mind together and camera goes around, strings are slowly come into theme replacing wind instruments, as Harumi slowly dropping her friendly character mask
I got my girlfriend to binge watch all of Ninjago with me. She has never seen it before, so I’m watching her experience everything for the first time. She cried during Zane death and rebooted and Nyas death in Skybound. Watching her experience game of masks, and just all of sons of Garmadon in general was glorious. the unfortunate part about watching all of Ninjago is that we also have to watch the bad stuff. I have already warned her about crystalized😂
Can you give more details on how she reacted during iconic Ninjago moments? I love hearing how new fans and even non-fans react to to the episodes blind, it helps give more perspective outside the Ninjago bubble.
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi well she cried during Zane’s death in rebooted and nyas death in Skybound. She absolutely loves the ending of skybound. So far hunted is her favorite season (she’s a how to train your dragon nerd). She loves the scene in game of masks where Lloyd finds out Harumi is the quiet one (but who doesn’t love that scene). She was genuinely surprised Harumi was the quiet one. She loves the great devourer and she thinks Pythor, Dareth, Ronan, Jay, Aspheera and Nadakhan are hot and she immediately knew that Cole wasn’t actually dead during his “death” scene in the fall
@@theghostwiththemost789 Wow, that's a lot of details, thank you! It's so rare to hear the perspective of someone watching the show blind years after the seasons originally aired. It also sounds like many of her opinions and most emotional moments fall in line with the opinions and emotional moments of most other Ninjago fans. Zane's death? Classic. Loved Skybound's ending? Controversial but some people still love it! Hunted as her favorite? That's one of the most popular choices! Surprised that Harumi was the Quiet One? I don't blame her, most Ninjago fans were equally caught off guard (as much as they try to claim otherwise!) That's interesting and it's evidence of NInjago not just being a product for its time, rather the the show impact people many years later the same way they impacted people when The Who originally came out. There is a timelessness to it, a layer of quality and intention that supersede time. Lastly, that is an... interesting selection of characters she is attracted to. Snakes, genies, older men and... _Jay?_ Honestly, I'm more confused than anything else!
@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi me and my girlfriend have just finished crystalized. She thought secrets of forbidden Spinjitzu wasn’t very good, but she did like prime empire and master of the mountain. She absolutely adores Seabound and it’s her favorite season now. The ending made her cry for like 20 minutes. She ordered the Lego set with Wojira in it right after we finished the season finale😂. She absolutely despises crystallized and it is by far her least favorite season. I personally also a crystalized, and it was painful for us to get through it. She was in pure shock when it was revealed Harumi and the overlord was still alive but not in a good way
This episode of Ninjago hit me hard with emotions of Tragedy, Pain, Anger, Hatred and Betrayal. Harumi’s backstory was tragic and changed Harumi’s personality from loving ninja to hating the ninja. It’s the same moment when Garmadon was corrupted by Great Devourer his personality also changed from loving Wu to hating Wu. Both Harumi and Garmadon have a backstory that sets them on their paths that led them to darkness. But the true villain of Ninjago, The Overlord was responsible for Harumi’s Tragedy and Garmadon’s Corruption completing the connection between Garmadon, Harumi and Overlord.
i used to be into ninjago more than i am today, and this season was always my favourite, mainly because the ninja are fighting people who started and are normal people, without stuff like talking snakes and skeletons and ghosts, because that stuff doesnt feel realistic enough
If you don't like this, you don't like ninjago! THis video was so so good. When harumi was revealed to be the quiet one, I myself started to doubt my trust in others and I was thinking bout it for like the whole day in utter shock. That's how good this season was.
I like the monster scene personally, i like how it showed both the ninjas and sons of garmadon fight together, and that shot where mr E kind of protected jay was cool to see Its almost symbolic
Most of the time i wish we had gotten more profound, serious matters like this continue in the latter seasons. Not saying they aren't deep or engaging it's just from my perspective they weren't oni trilogy level. And the cinematic approach was lacking which maybe is the cause for my preference in wilfilm. Some sequences like modified Lloyd's offcial debut in the mask of deception, Cole/Jay/Zane's origin flashbacks, Nya commanding the rain to control the crash, the mayhem in the palace of secrets under attack by sog, the ninja facing off against Garmadon's colossus, Harumi's reveal, Lloyd vs Garmadon in cryptarium, the last battle in green destiny, THE FIGHT WITH SAMURAI X IN THE RAIN(I frikkin love the rain aesthetic srsly strong suits for why s8 is in my top favorites) All these scenes were incredibly well executed cinematography-wise. I really miss that flare.
Amazing video as always, i kinda hate how harumi ended up being bad because it seemed like her and Lloyd had actual chemistry, but i mostly agree with what you say
That's how a lot of people felt about Harumi. The writer did a superb job of making Harumi really endearing and sympathetic, you were entirely on her side which is why it was so heartbreaking when it turned out she was so evil. The writers were actually extremely intelligent here, because they endeared Harumi to the viewer IRL in the same way they are endearing her to Lloyd in-universe. For lack of a better term, they were sort of making you fall in love with Harumi. I mean you weren't literally in love with her but you could clearly see why _Lloyd_ (the audience surrogate) was in love with her and it made you root for them. That's why Harumi's twist felt so devastating, _because it felt personal._ You were invested in Harumi the exact same way Lloyd was. When Harumi betrayed him, it didn't feel like she was just betraying him, it felt like she was betraying you, the audience. She had your sympathies, you trust, and you genuinely wanted her to feel safe and secure just like Lloyd did. It truly genius writing on the creators' parts, because it all comes down to being genuinely invested in Harumi's character. Even though she was fictional, the writers made her feel so real to the point where we had real emotions regarding her. Most tv shows and movies don't make you feel that invested in a character yet here was Ninjago accomplishing such a very difficult task. It think it's a testament to how good the writing is for Ninjago, particularly how good seasons 8 and 9 were specifically.
I think the fact that you feel strongly about Harumi being evil illustrates how good of a job the writers did at making you sympathize with her at the start. Makes it so the audience feels betrayed at the same time as Lloyd.
I always thought that the way ninjago (SOG) handled colors was amazing. When Harumi was first introduced she wore green, gold, and white, the same colors as Lloyd, (it could just be a coincidence because she was the “Jade Princess”), but after her reveal as the quiet one she then switched to purple, silver, and black, which are (practically) the opposites of Lloyd’s colors, and the same as Garmadon, all the while keeping her iconic red makeup. It’s a small detail, but a cool one nonetheless.
I loved this episode! I remember watching it with my older brother and for the first half of the season I wasn’t too impressed with Lloyd and Harumi’s relationship. My brother kept bugging me about it too, I’ve just never been that interested in love interest in general but my brother had been kind of rubbing it in my face. I was so happy when Harumi was revealed to be the quiet one because my brother didn’t get to bother me anymore, and it made Harumi so much cooler. I’ve noticed that sometimes I get more attached to the villain than the hero, and that showed when I was accidentally rooting for the villains when Harumi was trying to resurrect Garmadon. I was actually disappointed when the ninja won that fight because I was so excited for Garmadon to return haha, I’m not sure what that says about me as a person but Harumi is definitely one of my favourite characters throughout the entire show.
Everything you said about Harumi really made me think that in reality.... She is the Talia Al Ghul from The Dark Knight Rises movie in Ninjago. It's literally the same thing and I love that fact if it's a reference made by the writers (among others)
Has always been my favorite episode! Everything about it made me question if i’m really watching a 7+ show because there’s so much depth to it & the writing & music is incredible. I love your channel!! Your takes are amazing & you’re videos seen very professional.
Harumi is the first and only villain to completely blame their evil intentions on the Ninja. After rewatching the entire show a few times, I especially took focus on the Ninjago City battles in the first seven seasons. The thought of how many lives were probably lost during battles with the Overlord, Chen, the Preeminent and the Time Twins/Vermillion truly is horrifying, and even more disturbing is the fact that the Ninja and their allies never thought about innocent casualties until the final battle of Season 9.
Absolutely fantastic episode and an amazing video from you, Bendo. Love this so much! And what you said about the "aren't you the quiet one" line was exactly how I felt about it haha. It felt a bit awkward. But other than that, this episode is one of the best.
Thank you! Yea I’m kinda a stickler when it comes to dialogue in shows so that line always stood out to me. Love the idea but the execution was so close to being perfect. Still an amazing episode anyways tho.
I'm SO GLAD so many people agree that this is one of, if not THE greatest episode(s) of Ninjago! Just, WOW. Not even talking about the epic dialogue/fight between Lloyd and Harumi, my favorite part is the double-take on the flashback. Most of us watched season 1 when we were much younger, and if we stuck with the show until this point, than this episode serves a whole other purpose. "You weren't naive enough to think no one got hurt that day, did you?" YES!! As kids, that's exactly what we think when a monster attacks a city. But as you said, after Harumi's backstory we see the attack through the eyes of the citizens, through the casualties. And suddenly we aren't those naive children anymore. It's fricking EVERYTHING. 😭
This right here. I honestly loved the tragic nature of Harumi. It circled back to where the event that she couldn’t move on from was what ended up killing her. Then crystalized happened with bringing her back to repeat the same story and retcon that she actually had feelings for Lloyd the whole time 🙄
5:41 Well, in the German dub, they actually fixed this mistake. Which is weird because as a German, I have to say: The German dub rarely makes good changes.
They really knew how to restart a series and s8 was godly. Like typical ninjago it has plot flaws but it holds up well even to this day. I can't believe s8 came out in 2018 man
Bit unrelated, My biggest problem with Sog is that, most of the season is in the jungle. I think it would been beter if hole season was in the city. Like i think the fight in the roof tops and drying racks is my favorite in all of ninjago, becase its creative, fun and uses the backdrob as an advange. If i made sog, i would make Mask of hatered be in a ancient Oni temple deeeeeeeeb below Ninjago city, and Ninja and Sog are racing to it, instead of the jungle part.
The jungle setting never bothered me but I can see where you are coming from. But I think it makes up for it with the oni temple itself being such a cool location.
My only complaint with the episode is that why did Lloyd grabbed the oni mask when he figured out that harumi Is the quite one he should've let it there
If Harumi was a kid during the great devourer, then that means Lloyd was too. But then Lloyd got older from that one season two episode, how are they implied to be the same age in sons of garmadon and afterwards?
I just noticed how he only added a title card for the flashback scene and nothing else. It says "Part 1: The Flashback" but we never get this for part 2 or 3. Only find this somewhat funny because it's exactly what I would do
The third act is at least on a surface level justified by the fact that it is kind of one final climactic send-off (At the time) for Primeval's Eye and its dangers, with a big monster native to it being fought off by both sides of the story.
This is what i like about ninjago more than something like dreamzzz, ninjago actually takes itself seriously and feels more mature so that older people can also enjoy the show
I'm sorry but I beg to differ. Harumi's background was very sad yeah whatever, but if it were really important, they would've done it more often. With allies who still admire the ninja regardless of the collateral damage their actions (of which they have no control of), morally grey and mistrusting side characters, even underground movements to end them. We never see why Kilo, ultraviolet, etc. Are evil we just have to accept it I guess. But I think that's just a part of a bigger issue. The season really doesn't give much attention to any other than Lloyd, and maybe some other times to the rest of the team. They don't have time to develop because they were being pushed to release more episodes. Now I think that with dragons rising this won't be the case (haven't watched it yet). But that's the main problem I find with the construction of the characters and arcs. But at the end of the day it's just a kids show, doesn't need to be as good as it was. (Not now at least because before background story and actually good characters were needed for the parents to let their kids watch any show. Nowadays are so dumb they don't even understand what the characters are saying and just want punching, flashy, colorful scenes) And I'm excited for new seasons to come! I want to see the new directions they're heading to. And I'm just gonna say it... Master Lloyd is kinda cute. Lol
Wow, i’m glad i’m not the only one that felt a little odd when the paramedic says “Aren’t you THE Quiet One?” Rather than saying “A Quiet One”. Sure, both are grammatically correct, but the former sounds like it appeals to a fanservicey way of Ah Ah, she said it! She said it!
Fantastic Video! Thew last 4 episodes of SOG was absolute fantastic and makes this season one of my favorite seasons of all time(Next to tournament, possession, hunted, and master of the mountain) But if I were to choose, SOG is my favorite ever.
There’s a good chance that I will make a video on my favorite episode in the future. Only problems is I haven’t fully been able to decide what my favorite episode is yet.
@@bendobricks Ahh classic. Could you consider the final episode of master of the mountain. the whole season just builds and shapes Coles. We get to see him look up to his mother fail adapt and overcome. I feel like the whole season focuses more on cole than SOG focused on Lloyd. The final episode really slams and the fight scenes are very good
i love this episode but its 2 things i want to point out. Why wont Harumi just bring her parents back from the deed instead of Garmadon? and if the reason she,s so mad at Lloyd is cuz he didn,t save her parents, when she explains to Lloyd why she is so mad at him she dosn,t mention that its kinda all Lloyds fault. he let free the snake people who awakened the great divoverer but if she dosn,t know that then? So why is she more mad att Lloyd than the other ninjas. its still my favorite episode with return to primevels eye from season 16 being on second place. Llorumi 4ever.
The best place to watch the show is definitely on Netflix but other than that unfortunately I’m not sure where else there is to watch it. Lego has put out some episodes on their RUclips channel but most seasons are sadly missing.
drive . google . com/drive/folders/1-OOdzY2lANvqfYs_MNTLdBYHfuDGlroI?usp=sharing Remove the spaces between the dots. This has all of the episodes minus the second half of Crystallized, but that’s already on RUclips.
I would've liked this season WAY more if they didnt absolutely destroy all main character designs because of ninjago the movie. Every single time I see them I think it's a cheap chinese copy of the real franchise and its the very reason I quit watching it :(
I think that the bandage on kai make sense, cus before the re-designs, kai had a scratch(?) on the spot where the bandage was, but Lloyd was definitely a good idea of changing, I love the green eyes. But in the old design, Lloyd’s face was just his stupid lego face
This is a bit unrelated but does anyone feel like Lloyd's new voice is better because if they kept the original voice for Lloyd the confrontation of Harumi and Lloyd would have been Hella weird and very uncomfortable.
Yeah, the change of voice perfectly fit the season. What you're saying was probably on Lego's minds to begin with.
Agreed. Sam Vincent is a phenomenal voice actor and brings so much to the episode.
Yeah I totally agree

I don't blame her, most Ninjago fans were equally caught off guard (as much as they try to claim otherwise!)
That's interesting and it's evidence of NInjago not just being a product for its time, rather the the show impact people many years later the same way they impacted people when The Who originally came out.
The way this episode forever changes lloyds ability to trust is one of my favorite parts about it.
Agreed it’s so brilliant also yeah it really shapes ninjago
I called it when I first saw Harumi. I just had a bad feeling when I first saw her.
Game of Masks one of the best episodes of Ninjago.
I like the monster scene personally, i like how it showed both the ninjas and sons of garmadon fight together, and that shot where mr E kind of protected jay was cool to see
Its almost symbolic
Most of the time i wish we had gotten more profound, serious matters like this continue in the latter seasons. Not saying they aren't deep or engaging it's just from my perspective they weren't oni trilogy level. And the cinematic approach was lacking which maybe is the cause for my preference in wilfilm.
Some sequences like modified Lloyd's offcial debut in the mask of deception, Cole/Jay/Zane's origin flashbacks, Nya commanding the rain to control the crash, the mayhem in the palace of secrets under attack by sog, the ninja facing off against Garmadon's colossus, Harumi's reveal, Lloyd vs Garmadon in cryptarium, the last battle in green destiny, THE FIGHT WITH SAMURAI X IN THE RAIN(I frikkin love the rain aesthetic srsly strong suits for why s8 is in my top favorites)
All these scenes were incredibly well executed cinematography-wise.
@@bendobricks yeah i liked harumi being good :(
@@bendobricks Hi Bendo josh again did you miss me
Game of masks has easily stood as my favorite episode of the entire series since it aired
This episode made me fear and feel for Harumi.
And this episode scarred Lloyd for life!
Yeah, kids show, my butt!!!!!!!
Sons of Garmadon just makes me so happy
This episode is definitely one of this season's highlights, but the mask of deception clears for me
Has always been my favorite episode!
Day #219 of preaching that crystalized was a fan fiction and harumi's character ended perfectly in s9.
This right here. I honestly loved the tragic nature of Harumi. It circled back to where the event that she couldn’t move on from was what ended up killing her.
Then crystalized happened with bringing her back to repeat the same story and retcon that she actually had feelings for Lloyd the whole time 🙄
I listen to Harumi's reveal soundtrack almost on the daily dude. I love it so much
Me too.
tbh if they left the old Lloyd's design and voice, I'd feel really sick just because of seeing Lloyd and Harumi together lol
so after such perfect work of scenarists, musicians, animators, and voice actors, 8 season still isn't the best?
Gets even better believe it or not. Definitely a top 3 episode tho IMO.
5:41 Well, in the German dub, they actually fixed this mistake. Which is weird because as a German, I have to say: The German dub rarely makes good changes.
You are VERY good at these videos man
HOW DID NO ONE NOTICE YOU
I just watched your new video with td Bricks and the war
hype
Harumi has a similar story to Batman in Batman V Superman 🦸♂️ now that I rewatch them
They really knew how to restart a series and s8 was godly. Like typical ninjago it has plot flaws but it holds up well even to this day. I can't believe s8 came out in 2018 man
Drinking tea while watching 2 masterpiece(clips from game of mask and this video)
Amazing video. I remember watching this episode and being amazed at the visual story telling
My only complaint with the episode is that why did Lloyd grabbed the oni mask when he figured out that harumi Is the quite one he should've let it there
Idk if its just me or does harumi's dad look like Ronin?like him in his younger years before he became a thief.
Also great analisis
Its lowkey sad and relatable how lloyd gets his heart broken like this, i feel bad for lloyd, and i know myself how heartbreak feels
If a child of that age went through something on the great devourer level trauma wise there still developing brain would be turned to insanity.
Very well explained, I pretty much share the exact same thoughts on this episode.
If Harumi was a kid during the great devourer, then that means Lloyd was too. But then Lloyd got older from that one season two episode, how are they implied to be the same age in sons of garmadon and afterwards?
I think she's older than lloyd like I would like to assume that lloyd was around 9 or 10 during the great devourer while harumi is like 11-13
Awesome video man, again, I love this channel. Ninjago has always inspired me and you help me figure out why
Great video! Can’t wait for more, love the content man.
I just noticed how he only added a title card for the flashback scene and nothing else. It says "Part 1: The Flashback" but we never get this for part 2 or 3. Only find this somewhat funny because it's exactly what I would do
I like that this tells harmis story and that some of it is heart breaking 💔
Man! Your videos are so good!! Can't wait to see what your next one is about
i remember watching harumis backstory and i felt so bad
the shock when i found out she was the quiet one😭
New bendobricks content! Don't mind if i do
Honestly wish Harumi pointed out She knew the GD was released because Lloyd freed the Serpentine, Pythor specifically, and actually hated Pythor too
The third act is at least on a surface level justified by the fact that it is kind of one final climactic send-off (At the time) for Primeval's Eye and its dangers, with a big monster native to it being fought off by both sides of the story.
Lol
My favorite ninjago episode
I've fr watched this episode like 30+ times
Wow, i’m glad i’m not the only one that felt a little odd when the paramedic says “Aren’t you THE Quiet One?” Rather than saying “A Quiet One”. Sure, both are grammatically correct, but the former sounds like it appeals to a fanservicey way of Ah Ah, she said it! She said it!
Wait, all the clips are from Sons of Garmadon? Don’t you know that Tick Tock is the episode that changed the shows tone? 😂
Fantastic Video! Thew last 4 episodes of SOG was absolute fantastic and makes this season one of my favorite seasons of all time(Next to tournament, possession, hunted, and master of the mountain)
But if I were to choose, SOG is my favorite ever.
Peak season peak episode
I just finished the Crystalized 1 Year Later Discussion with you on KtP, and now I just want to pivot 180 to the Trilogy lol
You keep mentioning how it's flaws hold it back from being the best Ninago episode. Can you make an episode about your favourite episode ?
There’s a good chance that I will make a video on my favorite episode in the future. Only problems is I haven’t fully been able to decide what my favorite episode is yet.
@@bendobricks Ahh classic. Could you consider the final episode of master of the mountain. the whole season just builds and shapes Coles. We get to see him look up to his mother fail adapt and overcome. I feel like the whole season focuses more on cole than SOG focused on Lloyd. The final episode really slams and the fight scenes are very good
I haven't seen Ninjago since the end of the ghost season, should I get back to it?
Yes
Beautiful video 💙🔥
Amazing video
I fell like it really is Lloyd’s fault, if he hadn’t opened the first tomb as a child, the entire show could’ve been different
I mean if you want to get deeper into it, if Misako didn't leave Lloyd at Darkly's, he wouldn't have been kicked out in the first place.
@@carolina5143Or just left him with Master Wu
I think she should've kept her normal voice when she put the mask on
i love this episode but its 2 things i want to point out.
Harumi's parents are not Oni
@@skylandersfan6954 I cant believe I didn't realize that the ONI masks could only bring back onies before now💀💀💀I FR never thought of that.
i also agree that the battle should have been the ninja vs the sons of garmadon, and have them lose because their leader is in shambles emotionally

i thought Harumi is a Femme Fatale but according to the Villains Wiki, She is not Although there is little hints.
they should have kept the color and animation from sons of garmadon.
Where can I watch this episode I can’t find it anywhere online😭
The best place to watch the show is definitely on Netflix but other than that unfortunately I’m not sure where else there is to watch it. Lego has put out some episodes on their RUclips channel but most seasons are sadly missing.
drive . google . com/drive/folders/1-OOdzY2lANvqfYs_MNTLdBYHfuDGlroI?usp=sharing
Remove the spaces between the dots. This has all of the episodes minus the second half of Crystallized, but that’s already on RUclips.
Can you make a vid to Kais elemental tournament and agreement with Chen and that would be good and interesting

What was wrong with Harumi?
@@skylandersfan6954 I just found her to be a boring and annoying villain, now her backstory was good but she is not a good villain.
I dont see how they look cheap when theyre objectively more detailed designs
