4:37 The human feeling that Kurt was going through is so terribly strong that the microphone can't stand it and the microphone itself almost moans, shocking as hell.
The best version we will have of Where did you sleep last night, I appreciate being able to listen to this unique piece of music. And this song was not going to appear in this concert but they say that Courtney cheated on Kurt that same night and someone told Kurt about it and he diverted to that song, Courtney had promised Kurt that they would celebrate that 14th together, instead I give him a shameless hoax, thus triggering the best cover of Where did you sleep last night.
@@sisjsnsna No, she didn't. Courtney was in California as she was making the Miss World video and Billy was in Japan on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins after which he travelled straight to Germany. Neither of them were in London at the time. Kurt was a paranoid and unstable wreck who thought they were together because he read an article in a magazine that Billy had tried and failed to get Courtney to spent Christmas 1993 with him. Courtney never promised him they'd spent Valentine's together, she was always going to be in California as she was prepping for Live Through This.
I’ve listened to the MTV version many many times, I can say I wish I had the video of this version. He sounds tormented in this one with something heavy on his heart and mind. RIP Kurt. I hope you made it to the afterlife.
apparently courtney cheated on him on valentines day while she was supposed to be with on the 14th but she canceled calling kurt saying she needs to finish her album but was told she was with some guy instead being ag the studio and after he found out he opened up with this song
Melora Crager's cello work on the European In Utero tour is an absolute delight. She related to fans years later how early in the tour, Krist Novoselic needled her about not playing the songs the way in which they were recorded and when she approached Kurt about it for his thoughts, he encouraged her to improvise and play it how he felt it. I'm sure glad he did. Of course we'll never know but I have a distinct feeling that had Kurt lived, he would have had Melora work on future music.
I think that at that time he enjoyed playing that song more because of everything that was happening with Courtney. The unhappiness was not because of his fame, it was really that Courtney didn't love him and he felt it.
Melora Creager's cello work on the 1994 European In Utero tour was one of the great highlights of the performances that is rarely spoken about. Better yet is the story she related of how Krist would give her shit for not playing the parts the - quite more simple - way they were recorded and how when she had mentioned it to Kurt, he told her to just go off. Everything you find out about Kurt Cobain, you just like him more and more. Home boy let her cook. I like to think that had Kurt lived he would have had Melora work on future music.
I’d like to respectfully disagree, because at this point, he had already experienced vocal damage with coughing up blood, and every show they did at the end, he was basically just screaming every word, and on top of all that, he was a smoker. At this point he would probably have to go a lot easier on his voice most of the time.

This one managed to give me more shivers than the actual MTV version. Kurt continues to impress me even decades later
It is probably because Kurt was just told he had been cheated on by his wife
The best cello

it is kurt vocals
but still heartbreaking
Listening to this version for the first time, thirty years after it was performed. The power behind this is insane. Rest easy Kurt.
That psychedelic and sad touch of this bastard, there will be no other like him, believe me
This one is almost pushing past song into pure emotion… when you’re in that kind of pain, this is the version you want to hear

Where did you read that she cheated on him earlier that night??

@@DanathemaThough it still adds to the performance to me. You can tell he's upset. Pretty admirable to be in pain and use it to make great music.
that feeback at the end sounds like the guitar is crying.
Yeah really cool to hear their usual end of show feedback with their acoustic guitars

The cello here is the best way the song should be done imo
It sounds so much more sad😢

I did shiver the whole night through
I can feel his emotional pain in this song. We never forget you Kurt. I named my youngest son to you.
Same
this is actually the most beautiful performance

I'm not sure that "enjoyed" is the right word given that he was so despondent that he took his own life 7 weeks later.
my favorite muscian oat . thank you
So beautiful song and voice😢
Much better than the MTV unplugged version
yo i know u I watch ur content
hard agree. he should have played nirvana's hit song Can't Stop Partying though
This was 30 years ago today 💔
This is 6 days befor his birthday..and a month and a half befor the world gets one of its biggest losses..
Pain and sorrow
I have never heard this one...its gving me chills 💞
This was an amazing performance!!! Ty for posting. Cheers
I wish they would have added this show (or a least this song) the Rennes and the Aragon Ballroom to the In Utero 30th Anniversary.

Knowing that Cortney had just cheated on him on Valentines Day before this show makes his pain even more heartbreaking!!
Man Kurt's voice would've aged so well. That's him in his late 20s....think of his voice now in his late 50s

@@jerkman3944 yeah i actually agree with you.
This is great! Thank you :)
Happy Valentine's Day!
kurt cobain is the goat
First of all thankyou so much for this ! And where can I find lossless ver. of this ?
Melora Creager (Rasputina), her cello work here is fucking unreal
Is it not Lorie Goldstein?
@@Chase9WG Nope, Lorie played on the record and Unplugged but for touring it was Melora. ruclips.net/video/zf672Ruq8c8/видео.html At timestamp 5:09
@@MeatPopsicle1408 i know she played cello for at least a few of the west coast shows and live and loud

His guitar at the sounds like its crying
pain
😢 Courtney actually killed kurt inside , i felt this
Can totally hear the influence of freakfolk on Kurt here
It's a Leadbelly song
It would be funny if he sang with a french accent
Cruel
