When the guy who paints the court messes up Btw the explanation is that the game was played on the volleyball court for a students only game. Cool idea, but awful court lol.
My middle school had these bright green and white lines for volleyball and dark green for basketball, it was confusing, but my highschool has these like tan/brown lines that sort of mix in with the wood floor and you almost can't see them so they're not confused during basketball games
Gregory Gym was the "Old" basketball arena and is almost 100 years old. It has been remodeled as the Volleyball home court and student rec hall, but is being used for a single "heritage" game to honor all those Longhorns who played their basketball there in past years.
@@SnowmanTF2 Yeah, but it was a one off. @@Rowgue51 The gym was built in 1901 (just 10 years after basketball was invented and before everyone got their shorts in a twist about having to have a regulation court). Once you get past the second mid-court line, you have the full space from the first mid-court line to the baseline (standard-sized area of a frontcourt).
@@gregb1237 Honestly, for a middle school game, the floating mid court line is actually appropriate. It's awful if your ref isn't thinking about it, but it's definitely better than compressed zones on each end.

This is Gregory Gym, home of the volleyball team and used as part of the student rec center when games aren’t being played. The basketball team normally plays at Frank Erwin Center, so that’s why the paint is the way it is, the basketball lines are there more for rec usage but can be used for basketball in a pinch.
This was a one time game for students only at Gregory Gym, the home of the volleyball team. The basketball team hadn't played there since the late 1970's. The gym is located in the center of campus unlike the Erwin Center that sits farther out near IH 35. One of those things where its really easy to see if you’re the one playing on the court. We’ve all probably played on courts with more lines than that.
The worst one I’ve ever seen is at my gym. It has three full basketball courts side-by-side-by-side going North to South. The middle of each court on the outside have half courts running East to West. Then there are four tennis courts also running North to South inside all three full basketball courts. Then, as if all of that wasn’t confusing enough, there’s a volleyball court in the center of the room running East to West. The full court lines are red (including the three point and free throw), the half court lines are blue, the tennis courts lines are white, and the volleyball court lines are green. There’s a track upstairs that encircles the courts and it’s hilarious to watch the different games being played.
Something similar happened at Ohio State. When a new arena was built, the old facility (St. John Arena, I believe it was called) continued to be used for both volleyball & women's basketball. The volleyball court's borders were widened, making it look like the OOB area for basketball was well out on the court.
i went to UT and played in pick-up games back in the day, even before remodeling, when Gregg Gym smelled like a giant locker room......a blast from the past

A number of years ago, I seem to recall there was a similar flap when the MLS Championship (i.e., not a pre-season "friendly") was played on a field also lined for American football. Usually different colors can be used to distinguish which lines are in play (much as is done in this & other gymnasiums), but it still looks cheesy.

Disregarding the confusing mix of Volleyball and Bball paint...this is a prime example of why College Basketball is better played in smaller gyms. Texas has had a problem for years getting fans to be loud and rowdy in their big arena, its just not a good fit for college basketball, especially in a football state where fans very casually consume basketball. So this smaller setting naturally brings out more energy. I think their new stadium will be a nice compromise between the two.
