Crazy to think the "new guy " has been in the band for nearly 20 years!
Longest standing Metallica bassist
@@perryborn2777 what’s funny is that while he’s the longest standing bassist, he’s been on the least amount of albums (Death Magnetic, and Hardwired)
Yep. We all will be in nursing homes before we know it 😆
@@chaplinj6512 haha true dat. Let's hope we still have the metal in us 👍🤘🤘
It just goes to show the lack of output from the band during the last 18-19 years!! TWO studio albums in almost 2 decades! Pretty sad!
I remember watching st anger and the band was amazed at how fast he could play with his fingers, they where playing battery and Kirk said it hasn’t been played that way since cliff Rob is a fucking beast bro
I think you mean Some Kind of Monster, the documentary.
i remember that
Oops I meant Some Kind of Monster (I edited my comment after saying Some kind of Anger).
There are hundreds of bassists that can play that way. Rob had the legacy of Suicidal Tendencies behind him and the stage experience that most of them haven't had time to experience yet.
@@WeaponsArcade there are a lot of good players out there but don’t downplay Rob’s ability. ST,Ozzy, and Metallica isn’t too shabby of a resume. I’ve been a long time fan of Rob’s playing.
Rob is the one Metallica was meant to keep. He was the balance they needed.
Wow that is so nice... that's probably the most amazing compliment you can get from your boss/band mate
I love the fact that each era of Metallica is marked by the change of their Bass player & each one was instrumental for making those eras amazing.
For instance if Robert Trujillo joined Metallica in the 80's that wouldn't have been a good fit, or if Cliff Burton joined in the 2000's it wouldn't mesh right. Each Bass player was destined for those points of time.
Very well said.
Rob is underrated cause he makes it look easy !
No, he isn't underrated. He may be a good bass player, but nothing more. He has no charisma, no presence, no soul on stage. He just there, plays bass and that's it. He's just doing his job.
@@rictusmetallicus because he's playing cover tunes, with dinosaurs that probably still don't let him breathe as much as it seems.
Exactly!! If you watch the st anger movie even the band is impressed that he can play fast with his fingers
@@rictusmetallicus bruh what are u talking about here in sweden he sang a song in swedish. That was awesome to bad noone understood a word because he butchered it until the drop.
The crab walk? Agreed. I tried that once and I hurt myself. 😂
I doubt Rob asks what album disposable is on. Lol he was the one that finally got them to play dyers eve and damage Inc. I think he knows what albums they are on
Thanks to Jason for teaching them a lesson on how to treat people.
Well said. I always felt Jason got a bit "shafted" during his time with the band. Possibly a better way of saying it would be underappreciated.
Not really I guarantee you rob wouldn't have been treated the same way as Jason because rob would have been the closest thing to cliff. Jason played with a fuckin pick....
@@bluecomet1109 I think you miss the point.
Jason was treated like absolute garbage in Metallica. You need only listen to Justice to see how disrespectful James and Lars were to him. He's a great bassist (playing with a pic has no baring on his ability).
And when he left, they realised that you can't just treat the new guy like shit and mix him out of albums.
So when Rob came on board they endeavoured to not make the same mistakes.
Trujillo has been in metallica longer than Burton and Newsted combined. Let that sink in
En la epoca que solo viven de lo que hicieron con los otros bajistas
Fuck we're old!
Close - but that will be true in 2023, I believe.
He went to my bands death metal show, I got to talk to rob bassist to bassist. His son was playing that night. It was amazing he’s just a regular guy
Sssshhhuuurrrrr you did....
@@ami2evil life’s different out here. It’s a really small world in LA.
So James and Lars clash a lot and Rob and Kirk just want to jam.
Got it.
Robert is a legend. Great guy and talented as Hell. Quite a resume, from ST to Ozzy to Met.
Infectious Grooves as well
How do you know he's a great guy? Do you know him? I don't know him but I met him one time and he was a huge dick
Black Label Society too
I don’t personally think he “helped” Metallica. I think he damn well saved Metallica.
Especially after watching some kind of monster. I thought the same exact thing. They were on the fritz, and he injected a whole new energy and excitement.
@@dominicfergie exactly! They were literally using Bob Rock as their bassist. Not that he couldn’t play, but he’d never be able to keep up with their speed and skill regularly. I vividly remember Kirk in that movie stating that “I hadn’t seen someone play bass at that pace since Cliff.” Trujillo’s experience is also underrated, he worked in Ozzy Osbourne, Infectious Grooves, and Suicidal Tendencies. Robert was definitely a gift from heaven to Metallica’s longevity.
@@dominicfergie uh thats helping!
How about the lineage of bass players coming from Ozzy. Can't forget Mike Inez, now with Alice in Chains. His work on Jar of Flies especially.
@@dominicfergie Ozzy certainly has a good eye (or ear I guess) for musicians.
Lars and James are a top 5 song writing duo in the history of music as far as I'm concerned.
I dont know. Something is missing from the last 2 albums and I think its because they dont really let kirk and rob to take much part in the writing. I still love those albums but I miss the variety within songs and also in the album in general.
Lmao
@@AliKhan-sy9jy ?
Without a doubt
@@cheersbro7347 it’s cliff lol he wrote the good shit
I am not an expert, of course, but it seems to me that Rob is the most stable person in the group, the least prone to all kinds of tantrums and psychotic episodes. That's not quite a compliment for a member of a heavy metal band ( got to be all naked nerves and high tension, ha!), but certainly can help to keep peace and maintain the balance.
I think the other 3 have more issues personality wise as most ppl do, it’s part of being a human. But Rob seems like one of those ppl we meet that are so grounded and in tune with what’s around them that they are always a calming influence to others.
@@Michael15_25 possible, anyway he is good for team building, especially among such difficult people.
“Roberto Agustin Miguel Santiago Samuel Trujillo Veracruz……. Kazoo.”
Metallica has been fortunate to have 3 great bassists. Cliff was a god, obviously, but Jason and Rob have both brought their own unique traits to Metallica. I really appreciate Rob for not only being a great bass player and composer, but also for being just a good dude.
If Metallica do manage to do another album I hope Rob and Kirk get more of a say in it. I’ve heard people say Robs just in Metallica to play bass but this guy has talent and with the experience and bands he’s played in he could bring a lot more too the music. Also a lot of Metallicas bests riffs have came from Kirk. Give us an album that’s not just James and lars.
I remember seeing Rob when he was touring with Suicidal back on Lights Camera Revolution, one of the BEST shows I ever saw!
Same..🤘😃
Thank you James for giving Rob the credit he definitely deserves !!!
Rob really does belong in - METALLICA !!!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Robert is the absolute perfect fit for metallica. They absolutely made the right decision with Rob
Rob does such a great job, on the newest two albums, I think he makes the whole band sound really good. I mean his playing sounds great!
"It is nice having another calm person in the camp you know"😅
If you listen Robert speaking, he has this calm energy that is total opposite of his stage appereance.
Exceptional band, even on bad days.
Rob woke Metallica up and made them realize they are still Metallica!
Rob is underrated
cause he makes it look easy !
@@diogomartins3629 no, cause he doesn't have anything unique about him
he isn't.
@@SenatorDoom44 have you heard his bass playing ? It’s funky
@@SenatorDoom44 look at his resume and then come back here noob
Very kind words James, proud of ya!
Rob is the best that could happen to an already perfect band. He elevated the sound of Metallica. I love him.
Trujillo kinda has Kirk's traits...except he doesn't put his foot in his mouth.
I like Rob. Met him a few times, very chill.
When did kirk do that?
@@Soldier_Sean when hasn't he done that. There's so much stuff out there, but here's one. The big 4 show. Kirk says in their pre show huddle, let's go out there and show everyone why we're better than all of them.
Rob has fast fingers and a really cool bass sound
I refuse to believe Rob had to ask which album Disposable Heroes was on
James is so very humble.
WITHOUT ROBERT TRUJILLO... THERE'S NO METALLICA!!! HANDS DOWN!!! FORGET THE HATERS!!! JASON AND CLIFF ARE GONE!!! TRUJILLO IS HERE TO STAY!!!🎼🤘🖤💯🎶🎸💕🤜🤛👊
Rob has been in metallica almost if not already 19
I was born Sept 04 and will be 18 soon
What album is that on??
YOURE FIRED!
I think everyone knows what album disposal heroes is on.. cmon james
Yeah totally. Like come on, everyone knows it's on Hardwired
C’mon James!! I even knew it is track 5 from MOP
I mean you don't even know how to properly write disposable, so who knows
@@dannybos7024 Ouch.... Ive got nothing...
@@bradswanson8515 Disposal Heroes sounds like a group of really highly-regarded trash collectors.
Is there a full interview of this?
Where is this interview from?
And it indeed because he is with the Metallica for 20 yrs now. Amazing balance to the team for having Kirk and Rob. 🤘🤘🤘
cool.. i like jaymzs voice
I wish I could watch Some Kind Of Monster for the first time again
So sad to know there will never ever be another band like or close to Metallica they seriously pioneered so many styles and don't get me wrong there are others just like them from there time though it's just sad to know that this classic heavy chugging metal is no more it's all modern and djent as well as the Tim hensons I love the tone the riffs everything about the old-school metal black Sabbath I hope to see the day where it makes a return I really do
disposable heroes is Rob's fav met song btw
man if only they felt the same way about Jason....
I think James today would appreciate Jason. I think that's why they keep playing that alternate arrangement of All Within My Hands; whatever it may originally have meant, to many people it now symbolizes regret over the way Jason was treated. Rob had the benefit of arriving AFTER the band went through their crisis moment of Saint Anger recording. Of course he's exactly what they needed to get back on track, but it's not fair to compare Jason's treatment to Rob's, given that Jason worked with egotistical drunk asshole James and Rob works with mature, nice guy Papa Het.
He was never truly accepted because he wasn’t a great bassist. Jason made up for his lack of playing with his stage energy, which was awesome; he just should have never been in Metallica. He was in over his head.
@@raulchavarria7446 I mean... He was a great bass player; this narrative that he wasn't good enough is absurd. I mean he wrote one of the hardest Metallica riffs, on bass! The man had ridiculous work ethic and made a much stronger effort to play well, always, than, say, Lars. Obviously he might not have been the legendary god Cliff, but the guy could play. They didn't accept him because they were immature and had too many of their own issues to work through. No other reason.
he was included in the black album deluxe set unboxing, so he appreciates what he'd done in tallica.
If only cliff never died
Rob fits like a glove with Metallica
Aside from being a beast of a bass player the best way to describe Rob would be....................................normal :)
✨
I think with Jason leaving the band helped James and Lars finally matured up a little after a few year's with Rob ...Rob and Kirk being the quieter laid back in the band just there to play and make mass $$$ now they can finally think and work like adults that they are.
What's Cliff for Metallica, Jason's for me
Rob Trujillo is Truly A Blessing For Metallica 🤘🤘
People forget that while James treated Jason pretty poorly, Jason's days in Metallica were numbered anyways. Jason had a problem with painkillers and technically quit Metallica on his own accord. Interview came out about a month ago.
Where can I find this interview?
Jason's addiction happened after he had already left the band
Rob is lovely
It's annoying when people give the info that they believe and know in their heart, just as James did here and other people will say "no James, your wrong. Pardon me James but let me tell you what really happened.* "James, I know more about you and your band and your thoughts than you do." Give me a break. Just listen to the dude who has lived it, in this case JH, and believe it. I don't see how people go off like they know more about what JH just said than the man himself. Sheesh. Get over yourself Twitter heads.
These are the same people who claim to only listen to "true" Metallica, as in anything before the Black album. To them, if you've ever enjoyed anything Metallica's done after 1988 you're apparently some kind of fake poser fan unlike them just keeping it real. They're trying to gatekeep an entire band's authenticity. I'm pretty sure Metallica determines what's "true" Metallica by default.
Yeah, Jason tried to show you this before he left the band.
Nice !!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I've loved robs bass playing from his time in suicidal tendencies , he definitely is a good fit for Metallica,
Sweet
its true, i was there
I am guessing this in from 2004-2006 time period
Much respect to the Warlord Papa Het...👊🏼💯 #5thmemberestablished1984' yes I hated trujillo for a while but over the years his playing has been printed and stamped in 'Tallica4eva along with past members.
Always loved Rob. Humble, down to earth, and a finger style excellent player. A pick has good attack but you cannot duplicate finger style sound and depth. Love it. Dudes the shit
Rob is a beast !!!!!
Rob always struck me as a cool dude.
Cuz he is
Love Rob!
Would be nice for James and Lars to give Jason some credit.
Love to Robert, but Jason should still be there, especially since it's ok with Metallica to be good with Kirk's project.
Unfortunately Jason can't really play much anymore. He couldn't keep the pace nowadays. Sad but true.
Es un empleado y solo sabe hacer su trabajo docil y amable, sino lo echan
What album is disposable heroes on,I don't think he's said that ever
Rob saved Metallica. The best bass player joined them at their lowest point.
Plus Rob has infinite chops.👍👍💪💪
You're telling me Rob doesn't know what album is Disposable Heroes on?
Rob's the best musician in that band. He knows all the songs by heart, easy for him
now THAT is true hahah
They are all amazing at what they do. 😉 Hence why they are the greatest metal band/ band ever!
Robert is a pro and that's what pros do.
Rob did more than help and if he was able to really play bass guitar with all his abilities even slap the sound of Metallica would be great 👍put the bass guitar up front...
Jason Newsted!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That must have been a paraphrase. Rob wouldn't know what album Disposable Heroes is on? I don't think so.
I even find it strange that Lars had to look up track numbers on Ride the Lightning (I think it was) a few years back. But it's more understandable. Me being brought up on CDs can't listen to Fade to Black without thinking of the number 4, but in his days it was cassette and vinyl, plus it's more of a fluid process to create an album than it is as a customer with a fixed product.
Holy shit, relax. No need to go stat crazy.
@@HipnikDragomir It's not stats, it's just the number I needed to press on the remote to hear a specific song back then. It sticks with you. We didn't have spotify, you know.
Just to think if they told Jason this he would probably still be there.
Makes you wonder if James ever actually liked Jason…at least the kid knew what album ‘Disposable Heroes’ was on…
What album is that on? Really?
RT is the best member of Metallica BY FAR!
I’m glad Echo Brain kicked on …ohh whoops awkward…
He's no Jason
Lol Metallica trolls rob , rob trolls them back ‘what album is that on ‘ , like he wouldn’t know
😁😁😁
and the new kid got shit on for how long? bet this is just a breath of fresh air for him
Oh they are soooo nice for Rob and talk about being family, it makes me sick knowing what they did to Jason. What gives? RIP Cliff.
Come on dude. That's in the past. Jason has no hard feelings for that. It's time to move on.
Well... lesson learned for them.
That just shows them learning their lesson.
Someone is still in 90s, jeez move on dude, they’ve learned their lesson, and they are much more mature, sober, they were young and drunk and angry
Dude, nobody cares. Get over it. It was 20 years ago.
Best Bassist they ever had. Yep. I said it. He's better than Cliff in my opinion. Pure technique here. Cliff played bass like a guitar and was definitely more "melodic" than Rob, but Rob has a much better pocket than either Cliff or Jason. Him and James at this point ARE the rhythm section and his timing is great. He makes them sound better and I don't even really like much Metallica post AJFA.
better drummer would help too. keep lars he can be their producer...? manager...? since people love to say that any time anyone says anything about lars.
Who is Donald Marshall?
Rip Metallica: 1983-1988.
They looked more alive than ever in the Seattle '89 concert. James is the only member the band can't survive.
Idk man. I don't look band members like individually or personally, but I know James, Lars and Kirk where there from the beginning and they're like brothers and I just feel like Rob is here just for a job, nothing else.
Come on man, look at all the makings of videos. Rob is always engaged, standing up while playing and giving input. Kirk is the one that shows up at the end and inputs his solos. Rob saved Metallica. They would have probably gone threw 5 other bass players in the 20 years Rob has been there.
@@kfrank3215 no
Last good album was Master so who cares
Maybe if he didn't treat Jason like shit.......
Hope this is his family for good? I bet Newsted felt that way too, except Newsted actually wrote good songs under the Metallica umbrella. Trujillo does fantastic writing when not in Metallica
Hearing this, I nearly cried as much as when Elton John praised Metallica for something or another.
This made you nearly cry? Fuck, this really is 2022.
Thank God you know better. 😎 Yes I was trolling lol
@@marshallodom1388 No dude, this made me cry too. FU troll! =P
Lol wanna hanky? 😂
should have praised newstead instead.
Cause Newsted wasn't any of those things Jimmy..
Energy?... you had Jason Newsted! You changed because you grew older and matured, James, it wasn't because of Rob. Nothing against him he's the most complete and rounded bass player Metallica has had, he can play any style and play it well but Rob seems like he's just the freelance guy the band hired to fill the spot.
My guy how old was James and Lars let alone Jason when he entered the band.. of course he had energy he was damn near 23 vs Robert's damn near 40 when he joined Metallica.
That's like comparing kool-aid to a strawberry saying "yeah man, kool-aid tastes much sweeter man"
But all they did was trash and silence Jason.
Dont care for rob! I want Jason
Reason?
I feel you. Rob is great but JASON was a BOSS!
@@superhosster i miss Jasons backing vocals.. rob is not even close to jason and he had much better stage presence.. so Metallica live was so much better with him
Good thing Jason isn't returning lol stay mad

Why lol
Do you know heroshema little boy 🧢
Bass players for Metallica are all outstanding guys.
You have to be to withstand the egomaniacs you'll be playing with.
