The issue is not exclusively MCU, but virtually anything Disney released in the last few years failed, including franchises like Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Toy Story, and releases from Pixar, Animations among others.
Disney lost credibility, likely due to questionable decisions.

Then we had a couple years in a row where the movies picked up quality and the avengers hype was building up. IW came and was 10/10 and had a huge cultural impact. Then same again with Endgame. Even non-CBM fans tuned in. From these peoples perspectives, they’ve tuned in late, seen the fantastic work of IW and endgame, their standard are high for the next few movies, and therefore inevitably disappointed. And when lots of people show disappointment and lack of hype the emotions are contagious. Look at the eternals early reviews and reactions to later ones. People are sheep. And now it’s cool to shut in marvel. I’d argue the quality now is about the same as phase 1 / 2, perhaps a smidge less but nothing drastic. But what causes this illusion of failure is the stark contrast if quality and scope and connectivity of the back end of phase 3.
Getting rid of the key leads without building up new ones, to a strong enough point to take over, was a mental decision. Worse one by marvel by far.
Thanks for listening to my ted talk lol

when you continually, over a period of several years, lose much more money than you earn then you are struggling, no matter what "standards" you have. in fact, in case of Disney, the higher your standards, the more you have lost when you are officially struggling. much smaller studios would be ecstatic earning the tens of millions that disney gets because they only spend in the millions. but disney by its sheer size (and possibly hubris) spends HUNDREDS of MILLIONS to produce their movies.

I have seen it. It is an okay movie and a relief after the shit train we've had lately:
    - it's short and that's a good thing for a action movie.
    - it's a fun space adventure.
    - the cast has great chemistry with Iman being the most charismatic.
    - it has some wacky GoTG vibes which is fresh and entertaining for a superhero movie.
    - the antagonistic is pretty meh but that's pretty standard for the genre and for mcu movies in general.
    - the nick fury / kamalas family would have been a nice D+ exclusive short movie / one shot but it's not horrible either.
Overall, it's an unpretentious, fun, wacky entertainment. People need to review their high expectations... I have more issues with 3H+ long barely movies like Thor 4 or even MoM or Quantumania or She Hulk than with The Marvels. It's also a transmedia success for being the only successful bridge between a D+ show (MS Marvel) and a theater film. It's important to allow for flexibility and diversity (of standards) in what we expect from the MCU...

The movie was light hearted and fun. Superheroes in the movie are doing what I want Superheroes to do. Save people and all three do that. It was refreshing to see. It reminded me of classic superhero movies. All of these "critics" seem to be jumping on a bandwagon which I have to admit, they have been right about the state of Disney Marvel and Star Wars. They bait and switch the audience. That's the only thing they did wrong in my opinion. They put classic superheroes down to lift the new ones up. In my opinion. But I can't say they did that with Monica, Ms Marvel and Captain Marvel. They did it in Hawkeye, Falcon and Winter Soldier, I can't even remember the other Marvel shows and that's bad. My point is, The Marvels wasn't bad. Critic reviews seem forced. I know some channels just don't like the woman superheroes and the feminist ties or the way these women are presented. But this movie was great in terms of Superhero movies. It makes me excited for X-Men, and classic superheroes I grew up with. Now maybe we could get a Superhero movie and large fights like the comics with all of our heroes and villains on screen.
