Always thought this song was a watershed for roxy music. Loved them up to this, didn't care much for what they did after this. I know, you're called a roxy snob if you don't like their later stuff, so i admit, I'm a roxy snob. Their early sound was just so different to anyone else. I did like more than this, but that was about it. I'm sure brian and the crew are shattered by this, 😂😂😂 I'm 61 so i do femember them in real time.
I think it is the same with Rod Stewart and Elton John especially. Most folks don't like the later stuff, like The Stranglers and Kate Bush, I think most artists peak at some stage.
I had read somewhere that he was actually offering the chance to audition.... But turned it down??? If it was true actually , in a way, I'm glad he did turn it down otherwise it wouldn't kept having Roxy Music
The guitarist on the right acts like george harrison, lead singer is wearing all white like John Lennon, drummer has a drumming style like Ringo and they sing ooohhh like Paul. Clearly their heros are The BeaTles.
Highly interesting ,but proof Roxy depended heavily on studio quality sound, ... Compared to the stellar studio track ,this sounds almost like pub rock......
@@ciaranward3559 I've always found him to be a bit of an awkward guitarist with a tinny sound but he suited Roxy's music. He was better on record than live, I think, and I have their first four LPs. Unfortunately I never saw RM live, they only toured Australia once, in 1975. I saw Ferry in the 80s, though, and he was great.
ALL HAIL BRYAN FERRY AND ROXY MUSIC 💜🤘🏾
Light years ahead of their time.
Still think this is their best track,so underrated also ❤❤🇬🇧🙏💯❤️👍
Eddie Jobson play synthesizer and violin was legendary!
Brilliant. So glad Musikladen captured some of their early live performances.
Since the first time , i heard the beginning chords, ( 197?..,1980,) it got me,and still....
Ok,
Heart and soul
Still young, wild and beautiful!
This band was cutting edge bigtime.
All credit to Musikladen for capturing some of their best early(ish) live performances!
This act was so dynamic yet cool and understated.
So cool and moves so smooth.this is music on the cutting edge!
The ring-modulated violin is great and the sonic realization of its perspex form effectively
Mr. Ferry … the epitome of cool

The sidewalk papers gutter-press you down
All those lies can be so unkind
They can make you feel like you’re losing your mind

What a blast from the past..
Ferry has the swagger...brilliant
Sweet, young and brillant Bryan
After I finished my PhD I realised I had learned this much: that the good life isn't won by degrees.
And put a spastic through Harvard or Yale only wind up with something that's strictly no sale.
High Klass 👌😎🎶
My god they were talented!
They sounded better than their albums at the Allen Theater Cleveland Ohio Amazing!
"Watch what you say or think or do" - this line's very similar to a line in previous single Pyjamarama. Never noticed it before!
I never noticed before either, thanks for pointing this out Paul👍

FAB :)

Pretty much agree. I like Bitter-Sweet from Country Life and More Than This but otherwise it's the first two immaculate albums for me.
Yes, I agree with what you say. Another one of Ferry's I like is A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, both pre 74.
I think it is the same with Rod Stewart and Elton John especially. Most folks don't like the later stuff, like The Stranglers and Kate Bush, I think most artists peak at some stage.
Another Roxy snob here. I do like Love is the Drug and Mother of Pearl. Their 1st 2 albums are from another planet.
He should have been James Bond shouldn't he

indeed BF as JB in live and let die!!
A Geordie James Bond? Just what the world needed! Could he act, though?
Brian Ferry would have made a class James Bond in the early, late 70s...imo
@@RedheadLondon Why not? :) We've had English, Irish, Scottish & Welsh Bonds, high time Newcastle was represented :)
Awesome
Interesting taste Ricky

Roxy, missing Enoifcation on the keyboard breaks.
Comrade Ferrintinov
Comrade Mackayevich
Comrade Manzanarinov
Ferrintinov could use 3 or so Order of Lenin medals for his jacket.
Thank you so much nice music omy date brith
Ian brown is the most passive aggressive guy ever. “Don’t look at the guitarist in his solo, look at me instead”
Glam Rock.

I think some of that is due to poor mixing of this recording. The drums are barely audible.
I liked Roxy Music when I was 17 (1974) but Phil Manzanera is a lousy lead guitarist and very overrated. The Weakest link in the band.
@@stevenally8015 what are you talking bout how? The 801 is amazing with him. I am curious what he is lacking in your eyes
And lets face it reliant on Eno to a degree for the most interesting sounds
