Nobody mentions that Phil is just as much a guitar hero as ANY of the other ones....... am I right or am I right?
You are rightrightright. Fans of Malmsteen and Vai: LISTEN.
be right , that's what you want, but yes ,if it's phil manzanera ,from 801 live fame
I bought his solo album "Diamond Head" when it was released. As a kid, when you liked a band you bought everything even tangentially related to them. Eno's solo albums, too.
Every note (and chord) he plays is so ALIVE...!!
He’s a huge part of the distinctive sound.
As an American born in 67 I just delved into RM during the pandemic. I am BLOWN AWAY by Roxy Music! My favorite album by them is a 3 way tie between For Your Pleasure, Stranded and Country Life. Why they weren't popular in the States in the 72 onward time frame is beyond me! ♥️ Roxy Music
Simply because as an art rock vanguard, they defy categorisation. American music didn't where to fit them in
Better late than never.
Possibly too esoteric for the U.S. audience, too artsy. Much of Bryan Ferry's persona was a bit tongue in cheek and possibly too subtle for mass success here, though everyone of a certain generation in the UK knows them, without exception. Bear in mind, they haven't released any new material in 40 years.
I was introduced to them in college freshman year 72… saw the live touring the Country life album , maybe 400 people at the Leona theater in pittsburgh. They were memorable.
@@sea6bear I saw them Friday just gone at the 02, they were the dog's.
He's wearing jeans and a tee-shirt, and still Bryan Ferry looks 100% f***ing stylish!
HAHA. Exactly!
So unbelievably sexy
Dang! This cat makes even a t-shirt & jeans look good.
@@martins.7060 -I very much doubt Springsteen needed an English dandy to turn him to the idea of blue jeans and t-shirt, the standard attire for the average American guy he came to symbolize.
And that sax player 😻
Well fitting clothes on a good body will always look good.
This looked stunned me. I’ve never seen him in anything except uniforms, near costumes, and of course his signature tuxes or blazers, but if you have shoulders that broad and such a perfect physique, why would you hide it in a boxy suit? Especially when your young. Men are so overbuilt these days from going to the gym and taken supplements. This is the body a carpenter would have instead.
"l'amour, toujours l'amour ..."
i love the fact that in old RM albums, there were always some french words, like in do the strand or song for europe
Or German, or Latin (!)....
Bryan Ferry is hands down the most charming and mysterious frontman of all time
Phil is amazing isn’t he? And Bryan exudes cool without even trying
It sounds fresh every time it spins. Musically, lyrically...everything. Roxy's Country Life album is iconic.
This was the first record I bought when I was 10yrs old. Quite proud of myself!
Good choice
I'm quite proud of you too, Tony
It is a beauty of a song.
I adore this line: "All I want is the real thing and a night that lasts for years." Yep, that would do me too, Bryan!
He's so classy. Amazing
Roxy Music was ahead of their time.
"bryan, we're... er.... *between* bassists again...."
"never mind, lads. it's just a playback for dutch tv. we'll get john wetton in next week."
Sorry Bryan,he's just joined King Crimson, I mean UK,I mean Asia,I mean whatever.
I saw Roxy Music in '76, words cannot describe how very cool they were.
Always loved this song ❤
Look at those eyes ❤
coolest bloke ever
Simply one of the best groups ever!! Bought this back in the day & it still sounds fantastic !! Putting 'Street Life' on next 😀
My all-time 😍 favourite
they never looked better, crackin tune too
Massively underrated song, rarely if ever played live at their concerts.
Yes absolutely So good to hear it again and appreciate how great it is once again
"All I want is the real thing and a night that lasts for years" has to be one of the best lines in any song ever. Bryan Ferry is still a cool dude, even in his 60s.
Great line...... But the lyrics in Time /Pink Floyd have something to say too.
True. x
@@robertharrold4214 FUCKING AGREED. I wrote an essay on why Time is the best song ever written.
cf. 'Well, I'm sure I'll love you all my life - and in the morning too...' (Would You Believe?)
@@robertharrold4214 Bringing up Time by Pink Floyd at this...uh, time?? 😵 Huh??
Bryan Ferry looking seriously.....seriously ( 🔥) there.
The coolest band in the world, led by the coolest man on the planet!
Roberto Zúñiga Absolutely and now in the rock n roll hall of fame.😀👏🇬🇧
Totally agree.
ABSOLUTELY
Nobody comes close! He invented suave!
great song and how cool is that T shirt !
He wore the same T shirt and necklace on the sleeve of his first solo Lp 'These foolish things' 1973
Upon listening to Roxy Music, your ears will be blessed and you shall forever have good taste in music!
Yes, you will be changed forever
The comment of a Sage by gad !
amen...just for fine tuned ears! bless them
What a shame Rock Gods Bowie & Ferry never made an album together 😔
Wonderful. One of their very best. Ferry makes the whole process of delivering a vocal, writing the lyrics etc etc look effortless......and just how good is Phil Manzanera's guitar in this song...every note counts....
Bryan Ferry's vintage 1950s Americana aesthetic: t-shirt and jeans.
Cinematic references: Giant (1956. James Dean); Hud (1963. Paul Newman); Badlands (1973 Martin Sheen).
unutterable bliss !!!!!!
Listen to these guys at a great many parties in my day❤ very talented musicians❤ as a teenager I wanted to marry every one of them😂❤
Roxy Music a band that’s never dated. Still sounds new in 2018
And 2019.
@@patricksford no, 2019 was the cut-off.
2022 and beyond 👍
2023 … still as good as when I first heard it when it was brand new.
The only truly timeless rock ever recorded?
Phil manzanera to me is one of my all time favourite guitarist’s,if he’d been in a metal group people would still be talking about him now, definitely underrated. One of the all time greats
Gorgeous, gorgeous song. Bryan Ferry 💎
White tuxedo? Cool as fuck. Jeans and t-shirt? Cool as fuck.
My cousin borrowed the lp, in 1975, from a friend of ours who was into some different stuff. We lived in a very rural part of the US. We still do. A music desert. When side two finished I said "Play it again". Stunned.
Fantastic
Jesus, he's just as debonair without the suit. Daym.
Even more so!!
@@gaynordurdy7689 - Indeed. I had no idea he was so handsome.
I've always appreciated how bored Paul Thompson looks
When you're Mighty you find much of the world boring.
Love that guitar solo
Sheer class
Adore
1974: Roxy Music at the zenith of their powers (and I love that check shirt The Emperor's wearing!!!)
Given Bryans penchant for writing songs of ironic detachment makes watching this so fun. Phil looks like he dropped by on his way to the golf course (lol), Andy looks bored and then there is Bryan.
Was he bored(?)..nah, look at him even wearing jeans and t-shirt he exuded radioactive cool.
Label them what you will, for me they were and still are an amazingly unique band that created music that is ..
timeless
David Brown I agree.Viva Roxy Music.
Cooler than a freezer in the Antarctic 🎷
This song is muy excellente and the LP it comes from, "Country Life", has become an all-time favorite of mine. "The Thrill of It All", "Triptych", "Prairie Rose", "A Really Good Time", and "Out of the Blue" are all killer songs like this! I wish my ears had been open to Roxy earlier.
Prairie Rose - What a great track. And so often overlooked.
I remember running out to buy this album when it first came out
No words good enough to describe the original sound of this band.
A lot of their songs were old classics, artfully recycled and made contemporary by these excellent artists.
Country Life absolutely kicks arse from start to finish even its love songs are punchy and powerful
this is so raw...pre-punk, so eclectic, just awesome, *i do remember the Roxy Music Model girls quasi toppless on the Album Cover as a youth....Just never bought the album .."my mistake'"
Looks and sounds like 1980
The guitarist is heaven sent and has so much humility.
So ahead of time even when dressed down
roxy music is the drug
This is the track I adored and loved at school and got me right into Roxy Music. They really were superb, I saw them in 4 concerts. I adored all the early stuff - all the Roxy and Bryan Ferry albums in the early period.
I’ve only had the recent epiphany that I fell for my husband because he looks like Bryan Ferry!
Certainly not the first person to call them 'effortlessly cool', but they were just that. I love Country Life more with each listen.
he looks good in those jeans.
And in the tee shirt.
thevoid99 very sexy!!!
Oh YEAH!!!!!
Nice ass!!!!!
Brian was not only Cool he was a great singer, songwriter!!!
Saw this when I was a student in London and I immediately became a Roxy Music fan. When I got back to the states I got Country Life. That album has always been in my music collection. Thanks for posting.
Probably the one and only time Ferry dressed in jeans and t-shirt.
After all these years someone found BF dressed casually and he still looks formal!
What about Hard rains gonna fall clip ?
@@Mark-td5ux....yes, and the cover sleeve of These Foolish Things, black t-shirt.
@@chrishewitt9721 And IN YOUR MIND............white t-shirt and shades.
Interesting, good one. Phil must be showing off his Tele for the lip-sync, as the sound is his classic Firebird howl. Amirightphil.jpg
Good point!
You know your guitars mate. Phil can play a broomstick and make it sound epic.
Although apparently he did use Tele's in the studio quite a bit as well
I'd forgotten how great this band is. WMMS played a lot of Roxy Music in the 70's. Today, classic rock stations here can't get past Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, which personally I'm sick of these days.
Kid Leo, right? I know he was one of Roxy's big champions here in the US. Love listening to him on SiriusXM.
Ferry...genius.
The fashion around the world owe too much to Roxy Music. Ferry ´s style is ever perfect. This video show it!
Canny real drum kit there Paul!!!!
Love this song, Brian Ferry look sensational!
10 Jahre zu früh und immer noch gut.
My, those shouders. I never realised...
Bryan Ferry in jeans and a t shirt...It doesn't get any hotter than this
He was already wearing slim fit back then, he was way ahead of his time. Sexy!
Showcases his butt 😁
A mighty fine specimen! ❤❤❤
I can remember Roxy being somewhat of a cult band in North America. It took the AM radio hit, “Love is the Drug” in 1975 to finally get them some attention. Unfortunately, they decided to break-up until the late-70s.
"All I want a real thing, The night that lasts for years."
One of my favorite groups all my life.
I saw Roxy Music around the mid 80's in my hometown, Santa Barbara, CA. at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. The Stranglers opened up for them, also one of my many favorite British rock bands. (May Dave Greenfield Rest In Peace.) I also saw Bryan Ferry at the SBCB in 2014 and in 2017.
Roxy 4 ever
Dry cleaners were half day Thursdays
When you're the coolest man ever to grace a stage, you can wear a paper bag and still be the coolest man to ever draw a breath.
Perfect solo! Fits into the song, leaves you wanting more.
Yup (luckily there is more song to come...:))
Manzaneras a great musician, criminally under rated, mackay as well , fantastic player, great great band, and this is a clsssic tune from 74 , unbeatable
My favourite Roxy track. Best played at full blast!
Ferry escape from the Lou Reed's cover Transformer, the guy from the retro cover with the sigarettes pack under the shirt!!!
Let me refresh this commentary...after 5 years. Roxy Music is timeless
5 years? We're not that far off 50 years ...... and it's still fantastic, it just doesn't age.
Must’ve been the time Bryan agreed to swap shirts with The Great Paul Thompson.
Eno gone, Eddie came...and no more glam - but still excellent songs
Jerry hall needs to go to specsavers, to leave bryan for jagger.
She must have gone totally blind now, marrying the billionaire Rupert Murdoch.
@@martincorrado600 to go from bryan ferry and then to mick jagger and then to rupert murdoch. she must have shit for brains or something. i don't give a fuck how much money murdoch has. i wouldn't leave ferry or jagger for that asshole.
And now RUPERT FUCKING MURDOCH!
What the hell did she see in the billionaire Murdoch :-)
@@martincorrado600 HA!!!!!!
Bryan Ferry has one of the best bums out !!! Yes please !!
Roxy Music 1st Album Changed The Face Of Music Forever
Smoking or t-shirt & blue jeans,Bryan was always cool!!!
Love early Roxy. So avant guarde!
Great song from an awesome album! Roxy rules!
One of my faves. Always liked their more up tempo stuff.
One of the first singles I ever bought as a 14yr old, 1974, Island Records, pink sleeve, still have it. The B side is brilliant too - Your Application's Failed, check it out.
phill is with out a doubt in the 5 list of the best guitarist ever .!!
The solo is perfect here.
I'm the Whiz and nobody beats me!!!
My fave Roxy Track. Love this vid. Ooh, Bryan!!
I've grown up hearing and playing Roxy Music, revisiting later in life, looking for new music, it was under my nose all this time. Ahead of their time!
Hey David , same happened to me .
I see the transition here from glam rock to a more conventional look.
Somebody told me
Just the other day
That you're leaving me
We're through
Well if you knew
How it hurt me so
Then you'd change your mind
I'm sure
Don't want to hear
What's going on
I don't care
What's new
Don't want to know
About anything
Cause all I want
Is you
Going out with other girls
Was always such a bore
But since I fell in love with you
I need you more and more
Don't want to know
About one-night-stands
Cut-price souvenirs
All I want is
The real thing
And a night that lasts
For years.
If you ever change your mind
I've a certain cure
An old refrain, it lingers on
L'amour, toujours l'amour
Don't want to learn
About etiquette
From glossy magazines
Why should I try
To talk correct
Like they do
In another scenes
Say no more
About imagery
You're starting to confuse
Just make an offer
Of more romance
Of course I can't refuse
All I want is you
Oo oo I'm all cracked up on you.
Quite possibly the best mimed performance ever.
It's obviously partly mimed as there's no bass player in sight! I'm wondering if Bryan's vocals are live though. It's very rare to see Phil Manzanera doing backup vocals in the 1970s, and the backing voice doesn't seem to be Bryan's so maybe it is Phil singing them live??
The song that got me into Roxy. How lucky was I !!
met Bryan mid 1970s ... he was even more gorgeous in person! aaaah those eyes! yup still melting ❤️🥰❤️
RM provided the soundtrack of my 4 years at University 72 to 76… the first 3 albums are simply superb… all the music I went on to love grew in threads and connections from them: Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, David Byrne, Japan, David Sylvian, Saint Vincent, early Simple Minds etc etc… For Your Pleasure…
Absolutely Incredible Roxy Finest Vocals And Phil's Extradinarre Guitar!!!
3 cheers for Country Life
The best Roxy lineup.
