Thanks for the video. I started using Haakaa nipple shield today and my baby latched and sucked for the first time after 4 weeks of birth. I am very grateful. I got very few resources to research before buying. Thanks
After 2-3 weeks u used dr. Brown nipple shield. That was a transition towards breast feeding. I would like to know how this is was different from madela? I know it has more holes. What else was making dr. Brown better? Did it stick properly to nipple without falling off? The madela I used never used to stick n I need third hand to make it work
The plastic on the dr brown nipple shield is a lot softer so I think my baby liked the softness of it. And its closer to a real nipple in the feel so then I was able to transition off the dr brown nipple shied and use my breast. The medela one, the plastic is a little bit harder. If your baby likes the medela one, use it! Then you can slowly transition off of it. You can try to use the nipple shield for a couple minutes and try to take it off. If baby gets mad, you can put the nipple shield back on. Its take a lot of patience but hopefully it gets you closer to your goal.
Love the tip about storage in bra😄 i keep losin them.. id love to try this my baby is 1.5 weeks old & latchin with mam nipple shields but we are both finding it frustrating amd it takes many many attempts & baby is screaming house down & i have flat nipples so cant seem to latch without! Thanks for video xx
i'm watching this video at almost 4am in the morning and it's very inspirational since most of the videos i watched the baby was super small. my baby is coming to 4 months now but i'm still going to try the haaka nipple shield and hope for the best. thank you for making this video! i will follow your channel for more tips
I wish you were around a year ago when I was exclusively pumping, despite all the nipple shields nothing worked with getting baby to latch. But I never heard of the Haakaa shield, I'm definitely going to try that with next baby if I have the same situation. Thank you!
Thank you for making this video. It gives me hope… I’m in my third nipple shield and still trying on my 5 week old. 😔 I’m pumping around the clock but praying every day we can be EBF one day
There is so much hope! And so many more products you can try until you find the one. At 5 week old, maybe baby is still figuring it out so you have time! Good luck! ❤️
I have been exclusively pumping for my 2nd baby like 3m now. I would love to breastfeed him instead. He couldn’t transfer milk well because of his high palate and has an upper lip tie. His lip doesn’t flange out correctly. I didn’t want to risk my supply but pumping everyday every 3hrs now (used to do every 2) gets exhausting. And I pump 6-7x a day always for 30mins. Sometimes I’ll even throw a power pump in here & there in the evenings. It definitely is hard not knowing how much baby is getting at the breast. Feeding is just so stressful 😅 My first I couldn’t didn’t have a supply to even pump so I worked really hard this time around. I have supplemented just a little bit with formula when needed. Just adding like an oz or so for a full feed from bottle.
Exclusively pumping is so hard! You are doing a really good job. I feel you and I remember it being mentally exhausting. Maybe the haakaa nipple shield would be worth trying? If he does well drinking from a bottle. Sending you the best wishes!
Thank you SO much for sharing! I’m having the same issues with my baby and just decided to try the haaka shield and stumbled across your video. This gives me hope to keep trying!
Yes! There is hope! It definitely took a little bit of time but in the end I am so glad I stuck with it. Good luck! I hope that it works for you as well. 🙌🏼
Thank you so much for making this ❤ my LO is 2 months and I've been exclusively pumping for most of our journey with little output from the stress of our first 3 weeks. I've got the hakaa ones coming in the mail and am excited to try. My LO will also only take the mam pacii too
Hi, thank you for your video! I just used the haakaa shield for the first time and my baby latched!! But I’m not sure if I’m using it correctly. I followed the steps for putting it on, but I’m curious if you’re supposed to feel it suctioned once it’s on? And do you feel suction when baby is drinking? I could see milk in the shield, but I’m not sure if my baby was actually drinking, or if the milk is because I expressed milk into the shield before attaching and I have a strong letdown. I couldn’t feel my baby sucking like I would with other nipple shields? I’m not sure if that’s what it’s supposed to feel like, because the nipple is further in with this one or if it’s because I’m using it wrong?
YAY! That is amazing that your baby latched. I don’t remember “feeling” any suction when my baby was sucking bc of the distance inside of the haakaa nipple shield. Is your baby making small gulping noises? If so, he/she would be swallowing the milk which would then pull more milk from you. It stressed me out in the beginning when I didnt know how much my daughter was taking in so I did buy a baby scale. I weighed her before a feed with the nipple shield and after and after a couple times of weighing her, I was confident that she was getting the right amount of milk. Weighing your baby might give you some sort of measurement and confidence. Good luck!! 🙌🏼
@@homewithmarika thank you so much for responding! It’s nice to know you didn’t feel suction either. My baby will latch, but only for a minute or two at a time, but it’s a start! I just ordered a baby scale too, so hopefully that will help. Thanks again :)
@@fatmageneidi1767 of course! I just used the tip of a small kitchen knife to make it bigger. Just be careful because if you make it too big, it won’t suction. Good luck!
Thank you for this video, it really is trial and error. My baby is 2 month 3 wks and still fussy at the breast. Shes taken to the haaka shield several times, the problem i find is that it pinches and flattens inside her mouth - the suctions can be painful sometimes. I have a hard time with breast feeding positions with this shield because it’s so long, she gags. What positioning did you use for breastfeeding with this shield on?? Thank you!
You’re welcome! I agree, sometimes the nipple shield would pinch and Id have to let some air in without completely taking it off. I mostly breastfed fed her in cradle with a couch pillow under her head so she was more of a diagonal instead of laying on her side. Maybe you can try to breastfeed while she is upright in a carrier? That way you can pull back so she doesnt gag? It stinks that it only comes in one size. Maybe once she grows, her mouth will be able to handle the size of the haaka nipple shield. Good luck! ❤️

They also sell different sizes of nipple shield. Maybe its not sticking because its too big or too little?

Your baby can still learn at 4 months! It may take some time but I hope that your baby likes the haaka nipple shield, good luck!!
I couldn’t find any information about those nipple shield either, so thanks so much for this video!
I totally agree! There was no information for me so it was a lot of trial and error. Good luck using it! I hope that it helps. 🙌🏼

How did you determine the size of the shield?? Baby’s age?

I'm able to latch my first after one month but with so much pain and I'm not going to that again with my #2. This is so helpful. Thank you.
Glad it helped! I wish you the best with baby number two. 🙌🏼

When u started, how many times per day did u offer the breast? Please share how u increased the breastfeeding and reduced the bottle feeding..

How old was she?
She was 3 months old when she learned to breastfeed. The first 3 months, I exclusively pumped and she would take the bottle.
