I hope this is not weird but when I'm struggling with let downs I always come back to this video you talking about letdowns has now become my trigger for letdowns. :-l I hope that isn't weird you just have a very relaxing calm voice I really appreciate this video 😂.
Hahahahahahha I love this 😂😂😂 someone in my Facebook group this week said they use my videos to help calm their baby because she likes my voice too 🙈 so funny! A big focus of my program is helping working moms find a calm confidence in their pumping and breastfeeding routines. So I’m glad that vibe is coming across in my videos! It’s a large part of who I am. Thank you for your comment, it really made my day 🥰
Thanks for this video! Letdowns r so important for pumping. I'm an exclusive pumper pumping at 2 pumps per day (5mpp) at 17oz per session. In order to keep my supply up even with 2 pumps a day, I make sure I always empty. However, my pump often only empties me halfway (I do non-handson pumping w freemies), so I rely a lot on hand expression to completely empty. Without let downs, it takes super long to empty so I've learnt to trigger letdowns through touch and breathing (baby's crying or videos don't really work as I don't latch)- for me, stimulating the nipples & alternating breathing deeply w holding my breath has always worked for me! I can get about 3 letdowns (after pumping, during hand expression) through this approach. Sharing in case it helps someone :)
Oh could you tell us more. I was exclusively pumping and madd transition to the breast at 8 week but it's so hard to get more than 2 letdowns and he doesnt empty the breast because of this he tried his best but It doesnt happen
This is very abnormal, definitely not the norm! It’s very unlikely to get there. She likely has an extra large milk storage capacity and tendency toward an over supply.
Excellent video! I am a retired midwife and was looking for a good video to send to a new mom who is beginning her breastfeeding journey and working toward exclusively breastfeeding. I used to teach the breastfeeding classes for our clients and even though I hadn't breastfed for over 30 years, I would be feeling let down throughout the class! It happened with your video :) so you are doing a great job helping moms (or 68 year old grandmas) succeed in transferring milk to their babies! I look forward to watching your videos on the pumps you recommend (I'm behind on the latest) so I can continue to be useful to all the young moms in my life! Thanks!
i think with focusing on feeling is hard because when you multitask at work can be more difficult to get out of your own way. So yes, i may need to take a pause and be in tune with myself.
This is one of the reasons I liked the Elvie with my current youngest (I'm pregnant with #4). It's really good with stimulating the letdown on its own, due to the sucking pattern. And because it's hands free I found it so much easier to get relaxed and comfortable. Which was a real supply-saver given I was home with 2 preschoolers and a baby, and everyone is neurodivergent in my household, so everything was (And is tbh! 😅) constantly chaos. We home-ed now and my kids like me doing my own lessons by refreshing my knowledge on all things baby and milk.
When i was pregnant i bought a deep muscle massager that really heats up and after i had the baby and had a bad case of clogged ducts i couldnt get unclogged i ended up using the massager and that thing REALLLLLYY helped!! I used it before pumping 3 times and finally got the milk out! So iv been using it every few days and massage especially that area baxk by the armpit that seems to always be the hardest to get emptied!
After watching this, I feel like I've never felt a true let down. My boobs are always full and I end up just abusing my breasticles to get anything out. Maybe relaxing is my issue. I once fell asleep at my pump and woke up with 5 oz on each side 🤦🏽♀️ I desperately need a touch from the milk gods... 😫😫😫
Sounds crazy but I try to picture water 💧 creeks streams waterfalls which somehow leads me to thinking of a river of milk (the land of milk and cookies) is like a mantra .... Or I will think of pouring a glass of milk or I will think of what it looks like as it streams into the bottle I don't feel my letdowns like most women 😔
I so needed this video! Thank you! What are your thoughts on using fenugreek, oats, flaxseed, brewer’s yeast, etc to encourage milk production? I have let down and know my baby is getting some milk, but enough? I’m really unsure and have had to supplement to get his weight up.
I know it sounds crazy but I set up a false system with a sns while I pumped to see the milk flow and it really helped. My milk came in a few days after doing that!
Along the lines of the 5 senses... Listening to newborn baby sounds...cries, grunts, etc. My son is a year old now and i can watch videos of him nursing now but somehow I have a stronger letdown watching videos of him as a newborn, or listening to videos of itty bitty babies making those sounds
For me - when I feed the baby from one side and pump from another at the same time (I diy'ed pumping bra from elastic strapless bra) Also baby's crying or laughing sounds increases let down a lot. (Sometimes I listen these sound effects on RUclips)
Thanks for all the info, really useful :) could you make a video about the actual milk? For example: when you’re building a stack, like when it’s getting bad, or how to store it. When I’m breastfeeding I use the Elvie cup to collect the milk or the Haaka, but sometimes I get almost nothing, if I leave the milk outside the fridge and collect a little more with the next feeding, is it ok to put them in the same container and to the fridge or should I just throw it away? (as I do most of the time). The smell would be a good indicator that the milk has gone bad, but my nose has been broken so many times that my sense of smell isn’t really good.
I only get about 10-20mls in a let down sometimes.. then in the AM I might get 60ml per let down.. I used to be able to feel it but the past week I haven't felt it 😢 😭 Why is this? I'm 2 mos PP and was hoping someone had some advise.
Quick question Allison... I used to feel my letdowns now i don't. Ive also been slacking for the past few wks on latching bc she was going thru a growth spurt & my supply had dipped bc my period was coming. Shes finally normalizing again & im trying to re-establish my supply but i dont feel my letdowns anymore. Am i doomed? I only make 1 oz if i pump. I had a freezer stash of like ... At least 400 oz that she blew drank up so im trying to salvage my journey
I was wondering if something was wrong with me because I have low supply. And I have to pull my nipples out of the flanges and put them back in to get multiple letdowns lol. That’s like the only thing that works. I don’t leak either. 6 weeks pp. doing all the things but only making about 1/2-3/4 of what she eats 😩
Am new here and loving the content, my let down has so much pressure for my newborn to handle, what should I do,I express 3 times a day, baby is 2weeks old
As she gets older, she'll be able to handle it better. But you may want to try feeding her while you are reclined or are on your back. That way gravity can help hold back some of the pressure so it's not too much for your little one.
That pavlov thing... going to try it. Pregnant with #4 never been able to letdown for a pump.Praying I can this time because I don't want to give up bf just because of work
Ugh.. it’s so much harder with a pump. If you get going and need some help, let us know! We help mothers exactly like you inside our Pumping for Working Moms Coaching Program 💙
Hi Allison @mylittlelife Do you have a video to talk About what’s a normal output on average? I have premature twins and I oversupply for now (the need about 500-700ml and I have about 1000ml per day from 5-8 pumping sessions of 15-30min- less depending on if I miss some and how often they are on the breast additionally to practice) but I worry that once they get bigger my supply won’t go up to the required 1500ml+ . Can I assume that once they are out of the nicu and go on demand feed my supply will go up as needed even without pumping (watched many of your videos and hoping I can finally stop pumping once they are with me and on the breast every feed - unless I have to pass over to dad or family for help! )
I drink very vold water or soda when the baby is latched. It helps me with the letdown. I swear I can feel the water flowing from fra My esophagus directly to the boobs 😂
Thank you. I love this video.I have such a hard time now finding any time to pump with my 4 daughters. I’m afraid that lack of pumping has decreased my supply. Abs baby doesn’t like my left great uhhhh. Any tips for me that has no time to pump ? Baby and I are super attached abs she barely gives me time to do anything.
It’s no problem :) many women don’t! If you’re pumping, you can see or hear it. If you’re feeding at the breast, your baby will start to swallow and suck differently.
@@NewLittleLife I do notice this things and I very rarely feel it but I just feel a little left out not having those obvious physical reactions all the time 🙈 I am starting to try the Pavlov's dog connection 😅 not sure if my body is catching on yet
For sure stress makes it worse, it’s really taught me to be mindful, especially pumping.
I hope this is not weird but when I'm struggling with let downs I always come back to this video you talking about letdowns has now become my trigger for letdowns. :-l I hope that isn't weird you just have a very relaxing calm voice I really appreciate this video 😂.

Lol who has time to shower before feeding!?! 😂
Right?? Why is that always the go to recommendation??? Haha so impractical
I started yelling YES! YES! When she said this 🤣🙏
(As a mom of 5 and new twins) Ya'll get to shower?!
A warm dish towel over the breasts will do the same
Who has time to shower? 🤷🤣
I kept a heating pad near my pump to help with letdowns and clogs.

HOW CAN YOU GET 17OZ PER SESSION!!! I AM PUMPING 5 TIMES A DAY AND ONLY GETTING 18OZ COLLECTIVELY 😭😭😭

Please do some stuff on nerve damage letdowns! I had a surgery and letdowns seem to work differently from me …
I’m worried I’m not having letdowns…. I’m trying EVERYTHING! My milk isn’t drying up I just don’t know what to do! My LC is horrible
I see your spectra pump in the background 👍 I have the pink one!
My milk flows when I drink water!
Coming back to this video during pumping because i find your voice so relaxing lol
I hope it’s helping with a letdown!!!! 😂

Relaxing is HUGE!! If your struggling with let’s downs.. it definitely can be a mental block.

I don't feel my let-downs either. I saw a statistic that almost 30% of women don't! We're not alone.
When I was breastfeeding I only felt them once in a blue moon.
This video is so beautifully encouraging! Thank you!
You're right.. concentration is effective! :)

Firstly, love your vids! I can always feel a let down happening but then when I check, there’s no letdown at all. Ever. What does that mean?
I have been pumping for 5+ months, i just got to know that i have never experienced a let down by itself 😭😭😭
I’m feeling the same way :(
Thanks! So many great ideas

Thanks so much! Your tips are all so helpful!
I use my heating pad to warm my breasts. I relax and drink hot water with fennel seeds in it. The fennel seeds help me with gas.
I'm gonna have some tea today - I'm 2 weeks postpartum and having gas that is making my cramps worse. Thanks for the reminder ❤

I’m trying to get my 3 month old back on breast from bottle and he just screams and cries because it’s not fast enough 😭
Kinda need to get out of the way for the oxytocin to flow.... super helpful how low-stress society makes being a woman!

There are a lot of hands-free pumping options, if you're open to that: Cara Cups, Freemie, and Willow just to name a few.
I thought I was the only one! My 2 month old son only latches on the right and HATES the left.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love this video, thank you for making it
