- In this view, two kinds of laptops Thinkpad P50,P51 and Thinkpad P52,P53 will be opened to show how to add the SSD and RAMs. Especially the keyboard will be opened to show how to add the RAMs under the keyboard to take the advantage of the Thinkpad Workstation P series 4 RAMs slots.
Thinkpad P50: DDR4-2133MHz SODIMM
Thinkpad P51: DDR4-2400 SODIMM
Thinkpad P52: DDR4-2400 and DDR4-2666 SODIMM
Thinkpad P53: DDR4-2666 SODIMM

You don't need to unplug the battery connector, just go to the bios in the laptop, and disable the laptop internal battery, power will be cut off to the motherboard. Then you will need to plug in your adaptor to restart, then back to bios and enable the battery

What's good about this video is that it covers the last of the P5x series for upgrades. They're very much the same thing.
But the P52 is different. Or at least my P52 is not the same. The P52 (Type 20M~) is between the P51 and P3. How so? It has a removable battery like the P50 & P51. But its memory and SSD layout is the same as the P53. (2) M.2 and (1) 2.5" SATA drives.
Thanks for watching, yes you are right, P52 has removable battery. It was a really perfect engineering laptop, even slightly ideal than P53. Now P15 G2 is another classic gen.
Is it possible to put RAM with a heat spreader in P53?
You can put both a sata and an m.2 ssd in this?
My P50 has bricked after 4 months after getting one 2nd hand. They cost a mini fortune to keep running and updated with n help from Lenovo after warranty.

Could you please do a video on how to fix the power button of p51s/p52s. It got stuck and not popping out.
Really sorry, temperately no plan for that. My laptops all are working well, and no issues on the power buttons.

For P51, I was willing to buy third party SSD from Samsung. Do I need to get a SSD cooler as well?
It would be nice having one cooler paste with SSD. Some cases if the SSD is two hot, the speed of the SSD to be decreased to protect itself.
What is the name or link to the screwdriver you are using? I have a P50.
Hi Bud, I brought them from offline shop a long time ago, I believe you can find a similar gadget kit from your local tools and construction retailers such as Home Depot, Home Hardware etc.

if it's a dedicated gpu you can upgrade whatever you like in there.
can i instal m.2 ssd without tray?
P52 and P53 doesn't need tray for installing M.2 SSD. But P50 and P51 need tray for installing M.2 SSD.

I added RAM and it will not boot
Probably you could try using the new added RAM only first, and take off the existing RAMs. If the laptop can run, that means this new RAM does compatible with exiting RAMs. If still can not run, that means this new RAM can not be used on this laptop, please check the Type and browse the Lenovo website.
Thanks for your reply. The new RAM is exactly the same as existing ram. Even when I try with the old ram only, it still will not boot
