This was an interesting vlog revealing stories about these famous historical killers. Could not get over how the deceased body of Hardin was kept in the same bar for people to view for 9 months! I wonder how his body was preserved over that period of time. Just on ice? Really crazy behavior.

I have some CSI photos that was taken at the Lincoln County Courthouse back when Dr.Lee was trying to trace the blood trail that Bell left after Billy the kid shot him..I was also given a picture of the actual bed and nightstand that was in Pete Garret's bedroom..You can see the bullet hole in the nightstand that Pat Garrett had shot BTK with on the fateful night back in July 1881..These were sent to me by someone close to the scene and I will always treasure them since I have always studied BTK's life..

I find it interesting that Pat Garrett writes a book on Billy the kid and makes money off of it, and the fact is, as you tell it, Pat Garrett either was a coward and or, a murderer. Hiding in the dark in a house and shoots and kills Billy as he's walking through the house. For a lawman, that's still murder. What a rough, tough land . Then he gets killed, murdered. And its like most of them didn't serve time for their crimes. And what came across is how dry and unforgiving the landscape is there. There's a few more tough Texans. Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray, Buck Owens, Willie Nelson, Gene Autry, Tex Ritter, Tommy Lee Jones, George Jones, Buddy Holly, Lyndon Johnson, Dwight Eisenhower, to name a few. But what was really sad was seeing that fence, across two nations that should be helping each other. I hope someday that will be the case. That we can have fair trade and travel like we do with Canada. Off the subject a little, I know. Another great podcast and great story telling Jordan. I learned a lot on this one.

Good one! The Gene Autry museum has a couple of JWHardin's guns next to the gun Selman used to kill him, and the gun George Scarborough used to kill Selman. And Garrett was shot in the back of the head while taking a leak and his killer got off on....self defense!

It was Martin Mroz’s widow who was arrested by Selma’s Jr. The Gene Autry museum in Griffith Park displays Hardin’s Colt .45, The .45 used by Selman Sr to kill Hardin, and the Colt .45 George Scarborough used to kill Selman, though it might be shown in rotation. Selman said he shot Hardin in the back of the head in “self defense”. He said Hardin saw him in the mirror (LOL!). The guy who went on trial for killing Pat Garrett also claimed self defense and got off, though Garrett was shot in the back of the head while taking a leak. Something you might bring up farther along in the video. Excellent video, JTL!

I have always had an appreciation for wild west history Now in regards to Pat's death, I pulled an excerpt from findagrave.com... "On February 29, 1908, he was traveling from Las Cruces, New Mexico to his ranch with Wayne Brazel and Carl Adamson. He got out of the buggy and while urinating a bullet slammed into the back of his head. He spun around from the impact and another bullet enter his belly. Wayne Brazel confessed to the killing, but most historians believe Jim Miller was responsible."

The clincher for me was that in an era of obligatory gruesome photographs of dead outlaws there was no phtograph of the expired Billy the Kid. The murdered man was buried very quickly after some who knew Billy said the body was not his. Moreover, because Garret was to become a national figure following the alleged killing he would most certainly have wanted photographic proof of the deed. I am afraid that in common with most orthodox history the legend is a fiction.

Wild West history is exactly that, WILD!! Glad you found the site Pat Garrett died. "Off the beaten path" so to speak. The grave of John Wesley Harden was interesting that it is enclosed in "prison bars". I found that interesting. I know this it is to keep the vandals out, but kind of looks like it's to keep him in. Historic fact. The brazel family owned A LOT property in Lincoln and Chaves county. Most ranchers then did. But did you you know Wayne brazel who killed pat garret, his grandson mac brazel was the one to find the roswell ufo debris field in the brazel ranch land. Odd the same family had two big history impacts. But it also goes to show the legit word of mouth that family had then.
