Arthur, you just ventured into my neck of the woods! I have many family members buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland. I have also been to Elizabeth Short's grave which is there. In fact, the last time we were there, we heard some really strange noises. How I wished you had gone right next door to the Chapel of the Chimes! That's where my own future final resting place is. My parents are there. It's a beautiful, Gothic looking columbarium that was designed by Julia Morgan whose best work was Hearst Castle. Also, My great-grandmother was one of those graves evicted out of San Francisco and moved to Olivet Cemetery. I really enjoyed this video!

DiMaggio is actually my moms maiden name and Joe (the baseball player), is my grandpa’s first cousin. We have a bunch of family pictures with him as well.

That's really cool! I love the story of him leaving flowers. I think the flower shop where he purchased them is gone now but they used to have his photo in it.
Well at least you paid tribute to Ghirardelli by having some of his chocolates at his burial site. Nice gesture to the man who made the world a little sweeter.
Finally you visit Shirley Temple. My favorite child actress. Her death hit me hard. Rest In Peace Shirley 💔🥺
Mine too. She was quite talented. I loved it when she danced. I get called Curly Top, I have those blonde curls. My brothers call me Shirley Temple to this day. LOL

My father was her childhood friend as well as later on when she married John Agar. Mom knew her too double dating with them. They were both happy for her when she married Mr. Black.

I came across this video by accident. Fascinating! Carcione has been gone since 1988. Where does the time go? Many of these celebrities, at least it seems to me, didn't have very long lives. Or, is it just me thinking we have all the time in the world.

That one was the most striking for me. The fact that there wasn’t a gravestone. A man that could afford the best, biggest, largest and grand… in the end chose nothing (or his family did).

I was in Las Vegas for a business meeting in the early 80's. I also lived in North Beach at the time although he lived I believe in the Marina district. Anyway I was headed up to my room (don't remember the hotel) the door of the elevator opened and there he was (with couple of body guards). I'm not a baseball fan but certainly recognized him. Didn't say anything to him as I thought it would be unfair considering we were prisoners in an elevator. But I did think of MM.

It is sad to see all the episodes. So many talented people, doing what they do, just to give us a smile & a good feeling. They didn't do it for the money only. They did it because they loved it! To entertain us & make life a better place.

Arthur, I’ve really enjoyed your videos over the years. I just wanted to give you a little info on David Packard. He donated the money to build the current Children’s Hospital at Stanford building in memory of his wife, Lucille Salter Packard. Within this hospital, the Doobie Brothers donated a theater for the entertainment of the sick children, and they would occasionally give performances to the children in that theater.
Please continue making these videos! I look forward to them. They are a wonderful tribute to the people who have given us so much. They shouldn’t be forgotten. Thanks.

I was fortunate enough to have attended a concert by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra where Calvin Simmons was the guest conductor. This was shortly before his tragic death in in 1982. I will never forget the wonderful performance of the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony and the impression this talented conductor made on myself and the audience. It was just a few months later that I learned he had drowned...
Now we know where Joe DiMaggio has gone.

Futher down south on El Camino Real towards and in the city of San Bruno is Admiral Chester A. Nimitz who served in WWII and WWI veteran Percy Kilbride who starred as Pa Kettle with Marjorie Main as both veterans are resting at the Golden Gate National cemetery..
The two National Cemeteries (Golden Gate and San Francisco) would have been an excellent addition!
I didn’t know Joe DiMaggio sent flowers to Marilyn’s grave for so many years. Very sweet little fact to include.

I think George Burns brought flowers to Gracie Allen's grave every month for decades.
I like how these videos are filmed and presented like a tv show. I like that we not only are shown the graves/cemeteries and photos of those who died but are given information about their lives and how they died (when known). It's all very enjoyable and I appreciate it a lot.
Tennessee Ernie Ford was born in Bristol, Tn.
His home was bought and restored as it appeared when he was born.
You can tour it.

Yes it was, it is a block from my grand father's brothers house. Ernie ford was a cousin to my great grandmother
Thank you for visiting Alta Mesa Cemetery. My parents are buried three rows behind David Packard, so you showed my parents' monument in the video. Actually, my grave is there are well, so not everyone can say their saw their grave on Hollywood Graveyard!
Talking to a cemetery groundskeeper, I learned that the day of Steve Job's funeral, all the cemetery workers were replaced by Apple Employees and Security. I visit my parents' grave often and am familiar with the Oak Grove section, but , I never found fresh burials. There were other reports that Jobs was buried under a tree in the apricot orchard part of the cemetery. Too bad it wasn't an apple tree.
How truly sad and pathetic to be so consumed with paranoia to fire lowly-paid cemetery workers (gravediggers for crying out loud) to bury your filthy rich husband in secrecy. Was STEVE JOBS family worried his fucking corpse would be dug up and held for RANSOM?!! Delusions of grandeur anyone? They should have just had him cremated and kept his ashes in the privacy of their own home as I have done with my own mother who died in 1997.
I’m thinking he was placed in a locked unmarked mausoleum.

@@trumancapote9097 I didn't say they were fired, just replaced for the day. I didn't ask if they were paid for the time off as that wasn't my business. Those of us who have graves here were relieved that this cemetery didn't turn into a tourist attraction for visitors see his grave marker. As it is, people from other countries have come and asked. The cemetery has a book for people to sign to show their respects.
Incredible, if I wasn't feeling so ill I would have enjoyed it much more. But still a incredible blast to the past. Shirley Temple will forever be America's first and foremost darling little icon of the silver screen.

Thank you especially for Calvin Simmons. I am a classical music choral singer and had the great pleasure and privilege of singing under his baton once at LA's Greek Theater. That was close to 50 years ago, but I will never forget his talent and humor. It still hurts my heart that he is gone.
Thank you for featuring so many unsung heroes, smaller actors and trailblazers who often get overshadowed by more well known names. Its nice to hear their stories and learn about the impact they had on their respective industries.
Steve Jobs could have lived, but he refused any type of medical help until it was too late. Imagine having all that money and turning down help from doctors and such. Another great vid, thanx dude.

He made his mark by doing things differently in life.
Then when he does things differently leading to his death, everyone becomes a critic.
If he did things the conventional way, yes, he'd be alive. But he would be living that life in utter obscurity.

This may be morbid to some, but is interesting never the less. You have to be in the mood for a clip like this. I adored Shirley Temple as a child. I actually felt sad when Shirley passed away. When people ask me who I thought the greatest MOVIE STAR was I always say SHIRLEY TEMPLE.

I’m 20 years old now , but I remember my first Shirley Temple move was The little princess. I asked my mother who was the cute little girl with the curls and she told me about Shirley Temple. She was my childhood and still can’t believe she is gone. RIP Shirley temple, you will always be the adorable curly hair girl.
Thank you for featuring the grave of Abigail Folger, a fellow social worker. She died so tragically that ill fated night of August 9th, 1969. May she rest in peace. 😢
Thank you so much for including Maestro Calvin Simmons. I remember the day he disappeared, having played in his orchestras. We were all devastated. He was a Prince, a comedian, and a fabulous musician.

This isn't Hollywood, so maybe it doesn't fit here. But not all of the graves here were famous because of the entertainment business. You were very close to a infamous grave site. In The Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland is the grave with the remains of 412 people that were unclaimed from Jonestown, from the People's Temple. I am so sorry. May these people rest in peace.
I didn’t realize that there were “unclaimed” remains from Jonestown. Certainly, not that many people. They couldn’t be identified at all? I thought they were poisoned. Which probably shouldn’t have made identification difficult
@@britishtvlover2038 They were unclaimed mostly because of cost. There was one local man who became famous for a very sad reason. All of his immediate family went to Jonestown. He lost 21 family members. He could not afford to have 21 funerals, buy 21 grave plots. They were unclaimed. This was the case of most unclaimed. Multiple family members. Survivors could not afford to bury all of them.
Thanks for mentioning the souls from Jonestown. The cemetery is quite strange in that it's in the middle of an urban location, and the streets seem to go thru the middle of it. I grew up off Golf Links Rd and used to shop at Eastmont Mall which is very near to the cemetery. P.S.: It's also surprising he did not go to Chapel of the Chimes which is one of the most beautiful mausoleums in the world.

My monday night has just gotten better!
Back in the 1920's, the southeast part of San Francisco was the center of the silent film industry, which is one of the reasons so many silent film stars are buried in nearby Colma.
Another person buried in Colma is Adolph Spreckels, who was a San Francisco sugar magnate. He was the original "Sugar Daddy" because he was very wealthy and married a much younger woman.
Charlie Chaplin filmed some silent movies in the Niles section of Fremont. It's the only claim to fame that Fremont has ever had.
@@megmcguigan3857 There was a Japanese Am ice skater and Pitcher for A's, Cubs and Red Sox. He pitched when A's won earthquake series. I think Bronco Billy was there in Niles too.
His wife Alma Spreckels was the model for the statue which is atop the victory column at the center of Union Square in SF. She also donated the funds to build the Legion of Honor museum near the GG bridge to which she donated much of her art collection including her many sculptures by Rodin.
Another great segment of Hollywood Graveyard. I watched this on an HP laptop, and said a silent thank you to Mr. Packard for his innovations in the world of electronics. Thank you too, Sir Arthur.

Shirley Temple: I can still remember in the 1970s on Saturday or Sunday afternoon on WGN9 watching one of her many films with her talented costars like Arthur Treacher, Bill Robinson and Buddy “Barnaby Jones” Ebsen! This girl singlehandedly saved 20th Century Fox from financial ruin during the depression. Do you think they gave her free admission to any Fox film afterwards?
Steve Jobs: Yep; watched the whole 42:21 of this episode on a Apple device!
Joe DiMaggio: Not sure if their was anyone else as angry with Frank Sinatra and the Kennedys than Joe! Will we ever know what really happened to her?
Abigail Folger: Remember as a child this creepy news coming out of Southern California about Sharon Tate and her friends being butchered! Not something a preteen mind can process at the time
Joe Carcione: During am or noon newscasts, the local NBC Affiliate would air his “Green Grocer” segments. One day they announced there would be no more airings because he died!
Ms. Weather Girl: It’s Raining Men was THE tune in the early 80s!

This definitely makes this freezing Monday, without electricity, and in a cold 40 degree house in Houston, much much better.
If you use a brick base and make a small 'chimmey' of bricks with an opening at the bottom, like a small chimmey and put a thick candle in it it will produce a nice way of giving you heat. Just be carefull.

Love to see where Johnny Crawford, some of the Beach Boys( Carl & Dennis) & some of the Rock Stars & movie stars from the 1960’s are buried. Love to see Sandra Dee, Annette Funicello, Dusty Springfield, Clarence Clemons, members that have passed of The Temptations & Four Tops, BJ Thomas, Lesley Gore, where John Belushi is truly buried( so many different stories on his final resting place, Mary Wilson & Florence ( forget her last name!) from The Supremes & so many others are buried! My mother loved Tennessee Ernie Ford and would often play his albums on a Sunday after we got home from church. I grew to like his music as well. Thank you Arthur. I liked the ending.
I loved seeing the tomb of Shirley temple and the animator behind Rocky and Bullwinkle. as a history fan I always get excited seeing these places, because they always tell interesting stories about the lives of these famous people who chaned history. Also the Walt Disney family museum is located in San Francisco.
As a fellow history fan, I am just like you with loving these for the fact of hearing about famous people's lives (as a side note I also personally really enjoy the beauty of a cemetery in general so these videos are just big wins all around)
I was in Colma on the 5th checking out the cemeteries there. I didn’t realize how many famous people were buried at all of those cemeteries.
I used to get Ghiradelli Flicks at the movies when I was a kid. They were chocolate kisses that came in cardboard tube with a brightly coloured foil outer wrappers so they sort of looked like a popper. I always preferred them to the 'other guys' chocolate kisses. I was chocolate snob - even way back when.
I've watched 1 or 2 episodes of other grave hunters. So disappointing. Thank you Arthur for not being the center of your videos and the professionalism of your presentations. I watch many of them repeatedly, learning new things often missed the first time around. You are truly gifted. Thanks for sharing that gift!
Hooray for a new HG! I have seen many shows about Elizabeth Short, and it's so sad that she will never get justice. And, I worked at Candlestick Park as a teen, and got to see Willie McCovey play. I didn't know he had died, and was startled to see his grave. Thank you for this series. Keep up the good work!

My cousin is buried at the Mountain View cemetary in Oakland. Her death is still unsolved. She was only 32.

@David Shapera Have you heard the Fred Neil album with the Dolphins song and the OG version of Everybody's Talkin' At Me? He plays some really good harp on 4or 5 tracks. I liked that Hooker and Heat album too. It's like Kent State but they never mention Jackson State at same time. Hendrix & Joplin overshadowed him. I felt bad when Lowell George and Donny Hathaway left us too.
