    AND HERE WE ARE! One of the MOST requested covers since "Let It Go" is now up for your viewing pleasure (or pain)! Like I say in my video, this is one of the HARDEST covers I have ever done, and I do not say that lightly. Please bare with me on this one, as the great Phantom proved to be an immense challenge, indeed~ The peaks and valleys on this song are just all over the place, and the soaring high notes, to the long held, whisper-quiet belts are simply sublime when done right. My hope is to use this song as a stepping stone for greater things to come, and how far I still have left to go. All that is to say, I hope you enjoy the cover, and let me know what you think in the comments below :) Peace, love, and metal!! \m/
    Hello again everyone!!! I...am...so...EXCITED!!! AHHHHH! Tis the Summer once more and the sun is shining down on all of us :) (at least, for those of us here in the U.S. :3) I hope you are all ready for a dosage of brand new covers, because we got'em coming ALL. SUMMER. LONG! :D
    That's right! Every week, there will be a NEW COVER to look forward too. From now until the end of Summer, tune in to see AT LEAST one new cover every seven days :) It's going to be an awesome Summer, and what better way to celebrate it than to do a series based off of one of my favorite loves, Showtunes~ That means everything ranging from old-school, musical theatre, to topical, modern Broadway hits will be up for possible cover-age ;) Want to know what I'm planning? I guess you'll just have to stick around and find out~ *coughWickedcoughLesMiscoughMusicMancough

    Nighttime sharpens, heightens each sensation.
    Darkness stirs and wakes imagination.
    Silently the senses abandon their defences...
    Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour.
    Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender.
    Turn your face away from the garish light of day,
    Turn your face away from cold, unfeeling light -
    and listen to the music of the night...
    Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
    Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
    Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
    And you'll live as you've never lived before.
    Softly, deftly, music shall caress you.
    Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you.
    Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
    in this darkness which you know you cannot fight
    the darkness of the music of the night.
    Let your mind start a journey through a strange, new world!
    Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
    Let your soul take you where you long to be!
    Only then can you belong to me.
    Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
    Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
    Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in,
    To the harmony which dreams alone can write,
    The power of the music of the night!
    You alone can make my song take flight,
    Help me make the music of the night.

    • @courtneylutz1214
      @courtneylutz1214 6 лет назад +5

      If you watch the movie you will not be disappointed. I watch it SO OFTEN OMG I swear its the most amazing musical you will see. Despite being a very serious film it has a few funny parts which makes it so much better. AND GERARD BUTLER IS FUCKING AMAZING OMG

    • @brandimakesmusic
      @brandimakesmusic 6 лет назад +8

      Kitty Kat the movie only holds the story, because the singing in comparison to the show doesn't match up. I understand that Butler had very little time to get the vocals together, but the Phantom is supposed to be this angelic singer that teaches Christine all she knows. However they did not portray that. If anything it made people wonder why she is learning from someone who sucks at singing? There's only a small handful of actors in that movie who I can say did great with the singing, but Butler and even the actress who played Christine are not in that category

    • @drubeardslee89
      @drubeardslee89 6 лет назад +2

      +The Fox Erik is self taught tho, and Butler decided to do his vocals self taught as well. While I will agree, the music in the movie is nothing in comparison to the stage version of POTO, I do like that Butler decided to stick true to the story, though he could have pollished a bit and added some more emotion. still my favorite musical movie adaptation :) (Sweeny Todd second, Les Mis third, Into the Woods fourth, Newsies is a very very close 5th though)

    • @brandimakesmusic
      @brandimakesmusic 6 лет назад +5

      Liz Lee Exactly. The original phantom was supposed to be more deformed like The Elephant Man and his motivation is to get Christine to see his genius instead of only judging him based on his appearance. Butler doesn't even remotely convey that and really most of the blame can be put on the studio for not even trying to make the deformity look convincing or even try harder to make it possible for him to sing those songs
      As for Christine, I completely agree.

      I don't know what those who hire actors for musicals look for, I'd imagine credentials, like gone to this music school and been in that performance, but some people can have a natural talent too!

    Due to having seen our town's production of "Jekyll & Hyde," I am obliged to request that you do either "This is the Moment" or "Alive" from the aforementioned musical.
    After listening to this, I know you can do them, and they're both absolutely beautiful songs.
    EDIT: I just realized there wasn't really a compliment in this comment, which I really did want to give you; Fantastic work on this piece, I've honestly never heard it better, anywhere. Definitely one of the best covers you have done; impeccable vocals, incredible emotion, just fantastic.

    One of my favorite Operas, Musicals and you nailed it again. Did the mask help you get into character? You are a good or better that any "professionals" I have heard sing this song. You communicated it perfectly with really powerful moments of dynamic intensity in the right5 places and holding back in others showing that you understand the text and character. The way you handles the higher notes was so insuring! Loved it. When can we buy your CD? I'd be in a heartbeat. Seriously Caleb, I am classical trained and taught for over 20 years vocal music. For a young man you have such a grasp and understanding of your instrument, tone placement and vowels and consonants with the accents and phrasing seeming almost natural. You have a career in singing just about any genera you want but music like this and the other music you have share with us is where you greatest strength lies. I always wish you the very best off success and opportunity.

      Caleb Hyles Thank for your comment on my feedback. I have watched every one of your videos I think since I found you on You Tube and I have followed your present musical journey. I think I have commented on most of them. What is find is a strong consistent vocal technique. Some of it seems natural, you got a great instrument. You are indeed blessed and a good musician as well. I know what it takes to be in music and perform. Your music comes from a heart of passion, this is obvious. You have my continued support and encouragement. I have studied voice for many years and taught music and I feel I know a grey voice when I hear it and see the performer. You have already mastered so much. Now master yourself and be grateful to Creator for your gift, use it for good to make others feel joy, passion and all good feelings. Music is a huge tool of healing and good will. Vibration and sound created the Cosmos and our world and contuse to sustain it, even the Earth sings as well as the planets, Suns and Stars. May you have a safe and good journey this week.

    I know I’m a few years late to the party, but can I just say how much I love this? This is my favorite version of this song and, in my opinion, better than every professional/official version I’ve heard. Usually the singer’s voice sounds a little gruff or deep with this particular song but Caleb’s voice being a bit higher and and having so much passion and power behind it just waiting to explode works so well.

    Being an actor, and singer, I know that Les Miserables music is too overdone and is the bane of a director running musical auditions, but could you sing "Bring Him Home" from said opera (yeah, I know it's labeled a musical, but it's a friggin' opera!)?

      So what credentials do you have for being an "actor" posting on RUclips? Are you a big actor, or do you say "actor" as in acting in high school or even college level plays.... Les Mis music is actually considered by a ton of directors and opera singers an amazing experience. I'm no actor myself, but I can tell you that the people who have done it love it.

    • @ForgottenHonor0
      @ForgottenHonor0 9 лет назад

      I was referring to the fact that it's overused in auditions, like certain Shakespeare monologues. Yes, the music is gorgeous. Yes, I've performed in it. Yes, I love it to death! But that doesn't change the fact that a lot of directors when they run auditions don't want to hear Les Mis music because they've heard it a million times.

    It's good, but I really wonder how else that great punch at 3:03-3:10 would have sounded if you were a little closer to the pop filter. Is the microphone used for this performance a Shure microphone, and did you use ProTools for this? Really great emotive song choice, and your vocal range as a male performer for this song is superb. Really wonderful work Caleb. We reviewed this at the Art Institute of Seattle, and even my top level audio professors were amazed.

      Jon Snow Sadly, my audio setup for these covers is pretty lacking heh I just have the SM57 direct line into a laptop, and I record through Audacity. • @JonFromWA
      @JonFromWA 9 лет назад

      Hmm..well I have audacity at home as well. Were you over-dubbing your voice to the music so you knew you're cues as to when to sing? We haven't touched upon Adobe Audtion and I doubt we ever will since Pro Tools is the industry standard for music in the business including audio for film and animation. Thanks again.
