@craig thomas: I agree! The attention to detail is astounding: the scrunches of Alita's nose, the way her eyes brightened when something excited her, that ew face she made when she bit into that orange. My daughter and I can't get over how each strand of her hair appeared to have been animated inidividually. Weta is staffed by artists, and they eye candy they delivered shows how much care they put into this movie.

What I’ve gotten is that Battle Angel Alita is the first part, and that the ending was cut short so a sequel called Battle Angel Alita Last Order replaces the ending and continues the story. But what is Battle Angle Alita Mars Chronicles? I’ve understood it is the sequel to Last Order, but it appears to cover her childhood so does this mean that Mars Chronicles, chronologically takes place before Battle Angle Alita?? Or is it even further in the future taking place after Last order. I think the chronological order goes

I'm glad I didn't know anything about Alita. People judge movies (negatively) like this because they know the origins and the comics that they tend to compare their geeky knowledge of the chatacter and somehow spoils their fun when the movie makers change the storylines. They forget to just enjoy watching a hard worked movie that's made for everyone to enjoy.

I thought Alita BA was good but a few creative choices did bring it down from great. For instance, the film makers portrayed Iron City as a vibrant and bustling marketplace instead of the manga's dystopia. This makes it significantly more difficult to associate with characters willing to do anything to reach the utopia of Zalem since the conditions they're currently living in isn't exactly suffering. That's an area where Elysium did a significantly better job of world building. Another weird choice was trying to cram way too much from the source material into a single movie. You mentioned Alita's plasma powers, right? Cameron decided it would look cool if she got them in the film when in the manga she didn't get those powers until later on. As a result she does little more than demonstrate that she has the powers and never actually uses them. Remember Star Wars Episode IV when Luke first got his hands on a lightsaber and did nothing with it? It was that kind of letdown.
Overall though, the action and focus on Alita herself was well done. 8/10

Saw it twice thus far & will have seen it a 3rd time come tomorrow with more friends. It's been like wrangling cats. Anyway been a fan since collecting the manga in the late '90s. Film is great & have no complaints. Hope Disney doesn't screw things up once they acquire Fox. It's being said this is Fox last film before the merge. Btw, for those who don't know; panzer kunst roughly means 'armored arts' in German. I hope the film continues to do well.

I remember the anime. I liked her because she was spunky.
I'm glad they sat on this for so long though. Can you imagine? If they'd made this earlier they would've cast Jessica Alba!

"... Alita, or Gally in some versions" -> that's the other way round: Gally is the original name and was kept in many translations. But Viz decided to change it to Alita for you folks, for some obscure reason. For example, in my country (France), the translations kept the original name...

Did the professional critics even watch the same movie as I saw. The critic scores would have had me believe this was a C movie, on par with every other anime adaptation. How can these professionals be so wrong and still have a career? This was like Adelaide Byrd levels of being wrong. Alita was seriously the best movie I've seen in a LONG time.

The movie was really good. But its a new adaptation of the manga. If your familiar with the original story you'll notice that they took pieces of the story and kinda rearranged it. The original story is waaay better and a bit darker than the movie. Dont get me wrong I saw it twice and would continue to like it. Been reading the manga and im really liking it. Enjoy the movie peoples.

Movie was awesome! Her face looked like an instagram filter to make eyes look giant.
I liked the rollerball scenes. My only dislike was that it was too long and too short at same time. I took a smoke break after she kills Grewishka thinking an epic battle with Nova was coming up next only to return to credits rolling. Oh well good setup for a sequel.

if the movie was released like, 25 years ago it would be closer to the manga, with actual exploding brains and fight scenes, war against the barjack, going to zalem, find their secret, and make Desty Nova seen as a real psychopath.
also you're not a true motorball fans until a racer uses your hands as a ornament.

Just to clear one thing, Gunnm is the initial name of the protagonist. But when this manga translate into English, American think Gunnm is not a good name to catch on, so they use “Alita ”, the name from Soviet science fiction film Aelita: Queen of Mars(yes, it existed) instead. Author Yukito Kishiro actually like this change, he keep this name. So Alita is canon now.
