Dude, this is actually really impressive. I've listened to the album O.K. Computer thousands of times in the last 20 years... those tones are imprinted in my mind, and your recreations are absolutely on point.
The intro to airbag is still one of those special moments around high school when you find a new band and that one special riff starts off a soon to be favorite album
Head opening video. No fancy hyper expensive boutique pedals. It's all about the composition, the riff, the tone, the combination of a few simple effects..., well, the basics. 👌🏽💫
Dude!!! Thank you for explaining what Jonny used for the guitar solo on Go To Sleep. I saw him play that live back in 2003 and it blew my mind!!! Now I know how he does it. Again, thank you 🙌
So i grew up as a blues singer/songwriter. I was also addicted to heroin . I used psilocyben therapy to kick the dope & also Radiohead's music. Now I am stuck (in effect, punching up talent wise) trying to create similar sounds. I can honestly say, Radiohead's later music ( a bit more positive ) & Atoms For Peace music to attributing to saving my life. Conversely, I've always loved Amnesiac & their "darker" material. During 1 Fungus session I watched them recording In Rainbows The Basement sessions & The Bends & felt as if I were there. My circle of friends doesn't get my fascination w/ Radiohead's music or even Thom's solo stuff. I believe they are (talent wise) one of the best bands of this time. A long w/ Tool ,Mars Volte & maybe The Decemberists ? All very different yet if one is talking musical mastery or lyrically ie ( Colin Meloy from Decemberists) they're all fantastic . I find myself trying to learn DAWS & looping now . Its fantastic to fall in love with different styles to play. Sending good vibes
Just got my DigiTech Whammy today and I’ve been using this video to help recreate my favorite Radiohead parts. Also used this video as a point of reference in building my own pedalboard so thanks for this one!
This is so cool to learn about after being fascinated with Radiohead effectology in my teens. Still remember that Christmas morning with my Ebow. Really awesome resource!!
Im a lead guitar player and funny enough the repeats Thom does in Bloom is probably one of my favorite things of course the Jonny max patch is another thing too
Joe...thank you so much. You made me so happy yet again, I don't know what to do with guitar, I went as far as thinking to quit because it's become so boring to play, but this video has changed everything for me. I am not rich and therefore I don't posses any pedals or an amp with built in effects, like you. I live in a small town and I know few people that play an instrument or that even listen and enjoy music as much as I do, but your work has inspired me to try my best and to polish my ideas, songs and playing. Thanks
thanks for this amazing video! I knew about the Akai Headrush feature to be able to restart the loop very easily (best case when playing live without the crowd noticing) but turning it off and on again and again in 15 step is just genius. Also, I dig the shirt :) please keep on doing this great work!
Just leaving this here cause I'm tryna learn how you play 15 step and I need a marker to keep looping the video till I get it 😂 Fantastic video by the way! 8:33
Thanks! This video is due for an update ☺️ Yep, he definitely has used a Hot Cake on stuff which goes great with the AC30, the original In Rainbows live era Bodysnatchers tone was a Bixonic Expandora (RAT variant) but I was kind of going for the studio tone which was recording console preamp distortion, which is what the Crayon is made to simulate.
Love your videos Joe all you guys are super talented. Please do a video on your guitar gear including detailing your pedal rigs I’d love to learn more about signal flow from you!!
You’re right! I only noticed that more recently in the studio version. I think he tends to be a little more liberal with the phaser and delays on certain live renditions though where he can’t change tones as fast!
@@JoeEdelmann3 It makes sense. You usually tend to go for the live sounds in you covers anyways. Ex: packt like sardines in a crushd tin box Intro and everything in its right place synth.
wow thats amazing!!!! this video has great value .... even though i realize i'm miles away (gear wise, and also technically playing too) of reach those tones ..... i'm amazed ... thank you ... greetings from Portugal!
Fantastic work, really nailed the tones. Noticed you have a Prophet (either the 08 or Rev2), you should try replicating some of their synth pads sometime!
Thom's guitar on Bloom I always figured it was a digital delay that was maxed out. I used to get a pretty similar effect with an old Boss DD5. Good stuff my dude! Edit: Apparently the DD6 you've got oscillates! The DD5 does not haha.
The Breakfast Menu haha thanks! Yeah, I was having this discussion with someone recently, and because of the decay, a delay could do (or may have done?) pretty much the same thing. All cool tools and options. The DD6 is not what Ed used on the record for Karma obviously (they used Nigel’s AMS rack delay) but it’s fun to mess with!
DJ B cool! Yeah that’s definitely another way to do it! (And originally how I thought Jonny did it!) Wah and envelope filter are very similar principle effects, and your foot speed becomes the tremolo.
i love your channel, id love a lot to see more of your pedal videos and if possible modular system videos (for example with racks) even because ik its all on the king of gear with all the eras and everything but you even show how they actually sound in live and studio and do even a pretty good job in replicating them they sound the same, also good if you want to do this because you tell which pedal he used for what and in what moments even the studio stuff and racks and also in live or for his voice or other instruments and all the tricks, and also you show other instrument or tricks like using pads and lot of other stuff, also using for other instruments or his own voice in live various looper but also other member singing mixing all together, and for some glitch as the king of gear specifies he used also in live the tele plus 2 with the kaos mini pad installed on anyway its all on king of gear but id really like if you showed this stuff also the fact that they can do all the effects and glitch in live too because its all in the instruments and they manage to play them and change them in one live or in studio ,but yk even about racks sound and mixing (that actually even without that in live it sound the same) for not talking about o brien because it doesnt have secret for all the tricks pedalboards and everything as he shows all of that in his youtube videos or the trick that they do using the pedalboards and creating sounds or glitch also during lives and using various pedals for lots of strange things like nudes ,btw really good and cool video
I had no idea he looped the guitar in 15 step... I seem to remember him using a rc200 live too to create weird shuffle sounds during the live intro of 15 step?
GATO I believe the weird shuffle sounds are him using a MIDI foot controller to trigger sequences in a Max MSP drum machine that has some funky reverse resampling happening!
telecasper thank you! The TKOG pedals are fantastic. I regrettably didn’t write down my settings while making this, but I tend to use it in Mode 3 (Echo only) with most of the settings around noon (messing with rate or using tap to get the right time). And then occasionally in mode 6? I wanna say with the reverb added
Radiohead's nerdy community is just as cool as the band itself!
As a member of this community
That's sadly incorrect
@@ofir_likes_beer he said nerdy not fanbase.
@@ofir_likes_beer nah
Ur damned right
Huh?
Dude, this is actually really impressive. I've listened to the album O.K. Computer thousands of times in the last 20 years... those tones are imprinted in my mind, and your recreations are absolutely on point.
Really cool to hear Ed's parts on their own, I've come out of this with a lot more respect for him
The Internet Ed is the man!!
The intro to airbag is still one of those special moments around high school when you find a new band and that one special riff starts off a soon to be favorite album
Eric Portillo same here, but it was December of 2010 and I was in college. From there I was hooked!
Head opening video. No fancy hyper expensive boutique pedals. It's all about the composition, the riff, the tone, the combination of a few simple effects..., well, the basics. 👌🏽💫
Now I know how they got that effect at the end of karma police. Always thought it was a synth patch tbh
it was an old rackmount digital delay
I remember being obsessed with Jonnys sound on Sunterranean Homesick Alien. You nailed it here.
Ed's part on nude is magical, i always wondered how the fuck did he make that kinda sound with a guitar, thanks man, awesome work right there!
Man, YOU KILLED THIS! Thank you for sharing your extensive research. The Radiohead-nerd community appreciate you 😈
Dude!!! Thank you for explaining what Jonny used for the guitar solo on Go To Sleep. I saw him play that live back in 2003 and it blew my mind!!! Now I know how he does it. Again, thank you 🙌
I could watch a 3 hour version of this. Amazing gear man especially for Bloom
ruclips.net/video/YK4Fmrlqz3I/видео.html If you want some more pedal insight, here's an interview with Ed from The Pedal Show. :-)
You really nailed that paranoid Android solo
Lorcan Rowley I don’t understand in the solo paranoid , what pedals are you use ?
faboupalmeraie they’re listed in the top right
three guitarist in a band, with each recognizable sound, amazing...

Yooooo I didn’t know that was EOB’s part in nude!! I always thought it was a violin. Crazy pedal tricks that your perfected
I assumed it was Jonny on viola
Jonny and Ed are truly An Amazing combo.
Tom’s Tone in the Album In Rainbows is great!!!
Wow you NAILED these tones. Brings me back to childhood hearing these parts isolated

Such a great video. Great playing. Accurate tone recreations. Awesome.
After running in to your videos the last few weeks.. how could I not subscribe after seeing your commitment to the craft...?
Airbag sounds exactly like it! We’ll really all your riffs do. The “fall” of the whammy treadle is tricky to time just right on Subterranean
Wow. This is a masterpiece. Thank you so much for all the time and research you put into this. You really nail the guitar parts yourself, too!
Dude, thank you and where has this channel been all my life? Incredible work man.
I am simply blown away after watching this, you honestly may be RUclips’s leading authority on every Radiohead-related topic. Amazing.
As a massive fan of radiohead, this is priceless for me dude. Thankyou so much for sharing.

If only Ed's part in videotape made it into the album 😭.
I've been wondering for so long about bodysnatchers fuzz... thanks a lot man...
Excellent tutorial and one of the best I’ve seen! A real eye opener into the making of RH sound. And a great demonstration of the pedals! 👏🏻

Just picked up the new 202 boss space echo and checking around to see what songs use it. Low and behold here I am.

You forgot to mention Thom Yorkes custom made super short microphone stand.

awesome.
For a minute there I lost myself.
I'm happy you do this. Learning a lot!
I just ordered the King of Gear Mini-Glitch pedal. I’m pretty jazzed to mess around with it.
It’s such a fun pedal!! Lots of cool uses too beyond just Jonny’s signature one!
Also meant to say thanks for such a badass video! 😬
Marshall Blackbox pedals might be coming back tomorrow so it will be a lot cheap and easier to get the shredmaster and guvnor

this is AMAZING! Congrats and thanks!
This is neither here nor there but for a Radiohead fan you sure sound like Billy Corgan.
vinyltap haha well I like the Pumpkins too!
Excellent work

I have that mini glitch pedal and it never sounds like this. Ive always felt it was wired wrong

I thought they used the Korg Kaoscillator pad on the Go To Sleep solo.
Nope! That’s the computer program Max MSP. They use the Kaoss pad (the Kaossilator is a synth, the Kaoss is FX) on Everything in Its Right Place. ☺️
Brilliant video. Great work.
