Looks good. I did it a little differently. A family was demolishing a 100yo carriage shed. I just took the whole shed. Disassembled it, moved it to my property. Had to replace a few rotten pieces. Basically got 10x12 for under $200, and a lot of sweat equity.
Did you make a video of the dismantling and rebuilding of the shed? A Century Old Shed’s craftsmanship must’ve been a great skill learned on how it was built.
I know I have told you this before but I wouldn’t be able to get anything done there because I would find a chair and a coffee pot and stare into the beautiful country side all day. It’s a great looking shed !
My first time to build a shed from salvaged materials and on a budget. I am not a carpenter but i do have tools and wants to build. Thanks for sharing your video, i picked up some ideas that i think would be productive.
I'm in the middle of building my shed right now. I must say, through all the shed builds and especially roofing portion videos I've sifted through, this video is the best one. Thank you for uploading this.
Pete you're legit putting out some of the best DIY content out there. This shed is top tier and I can't wait to see how you develop your rink. Keep killing it man! Awesome video!
Couldn’t agree more. I’ve watched a ton of DIY and building videos and this is probably the best one I’ve ever seen. I’ve built two sheds previously and I’m starting on a chicken coop this weekend (8x8 lean to) so this was a great video to watch to get started.
Thanks Pete. I am thinking of building a shed for my driveway with two doors front and back. But want to reinforce the front to keep the two legged critters out.
The shed looks great! I was looking at possibly building my own shed 8x16 same style but after pricing out lumber, supplies, my time, I may just go with a pre-made shed from a company. Lumber prices are still crazy here in Canada and it's not worth my down time from my kids.
Man I wish i had watched your video before i built my shed. I didn't account for the 3.5inches to burn on my stud placement for my side walls, so the siding didnt line up. Still worked out with a little bit of extra work but thank you for mentioning that. Now I know for the future to account for it =)
Beautiful shed and amazing colors! You’re always your own worst critic, but I think this shed is perfect! And the shed complements it’s beautiful surroundings. Congrats!
Pete. Shed really looks great. I agree that the black window looks far better than if you had left it white. Love your basic approach to these projects.
That she'd looks awesome. Man some people don't know how good they have it I've never seen mountains in person never seen a cactus never seen palm tree or the ocean its like I live in a different world
This is awesome! I’m trying to decide whether to buy, build from a kit, or build a shed. I think I may build from a kit since this will be my first shed build. But your videos make me feel like I could build from scratch if I want to spend the extra time. Thank you!
May Suggest using galvanized steel frame for the base you will be able to tie the structure to the ground in high wind areas with rebars hammered into ground. Mesa, Arizona ♥️
Great job. And with current prices too, thanks. Shame lumber is still high in Fort Worth, TX due to a lot of new home builds. Right now I'm going to have the slab poured and just buy one of those plastic sheds. A wood one is just not worth it at current prices. Again, thanks with the great information too.
Did something similar about 4 years ago. But I did a tin roof and I found a 6ft by 5ft steel roll up door on sale for 200 bucks and installed that instead of swinging doors. 2 years after that almost every neighbour around me copied it and built the same shed lol.
awesome video, awesome build. The only thing I would add is to consider putting 2 to 3 coats of polyurethane to prevent molding after staining the trim. I learned that lesson the hard way myself.
Wow, best video. Well explained, easy to follow. Really on a budget and so much better looking than those $5k+. This shed has character. I'm also glad you show your mistake and how to remediate it. lll be building my own once warmer weather hits my area. Thanks for such awesome video
Thanks for watching! We were over $50 a sheet not long ago, but prices in the US for OSB have decreased significantly. Hope things fall in the UK soon for ya. Cheers!
Hey Marc! Thanks so much and I hope your Sunday issuing great! haha, thanks for checking out the rink build :) I was definitely needing to get out a new video, been too long! Cheers
Dude, well done. Even just watching the first few seconds helped me figure out some ideas. Well done, hope you keep doing your thing. Will be sure to check out other videos.
Good vid, good work! Only thing if you build a biggest structure, run your plywood left to right instead of vertical. Expansion and contraction will show later on. Mainly only with 3tab shingles. Life is good. You have a beautiful property
Planning to follow your instructions and build something like this. Anyway you can make a detailed video for the doors. I just can't wrap my head around that part for some reason
Always a good day to find a DIY Pete video waiting foe me! Love the build and great tutorial. Looking forward to the ice rink shed and some hockey as well. Thanks for posting and GBR!
Hey Jeff! Thanks so much. And what a fun game to watch yesterday with Nebraska vs Oklahoma. We played pretty darn good against #3 in the nation. Hoping we are on the brink of turning things around. Cheers!
This is just what I needed to see. Probably watched it 50 times but it really helped me as I built mine. I did use 10' for the front so have a deeper pitch. Thanks for the info!
Wood prices are still very high. I'm thinking getting a metal shed and putting wood framing as secondary support and floor. A 12x12 metal shed can be had $600 in my area of colorado. Compared $2600 to building out of wood. Spare scrap wood can be used in a metal shed as sturdier framing to bring down cost too.
Hey, this is a great build! Looks terrific. Couple of questions - any particular reason why you chose screws over Brad nails for the trim? Also, any particular reason why you didn’t put flashing between the side boards at the join?
Great video! Super good job with the detail work and explanation…! I’ve gotta watch it again. I’m in the middle of my 8x10 build also, but with a gable type roof…. After watching your video, I’m changing to a single slant roof… Is your roof angle 2/12 or is it a bit steeper… I read with asphalt shingles , a 2/12 roof pitch is minimum… correct? Thanks again for a great video!!
I actually paid for a 10 x 10 pre cut kit; it priced out 200 dollars more than buying the lumber; but it also came with all the nails and screws; door hinges; and door handles/lock, roofing materials, drip edge and caulking. Overall; it was a wash as far as price goes, unfortunately though it was of lower quality framing than you'd normally do on your own. When all said and done though; it holds up strong and does the job just fine! Took about 3 hours to put together with two of us. Then I did the roofing in a couple hours by myself a couple days later.. Next one I will just build though because in honesty the biggest issue I have is that I would like to customize to my liking more, But for a quick solution the pre cut kit was nice. Also; it delivered in one nice package for about 60 dollars.
@@DIYPETE Meant to say, the colour combo you chose for the shed is really striking! Love the dark grey & wood stain combo - made even more modern feeling by the window you went through the trouble to paint black.
Really nice looking modern shed! Love how the colors come together. Looks like that window was installed upside-down. Those weep holes are supposed to be at the bottom of the window to let any water that gets in to escape. Overall, it is a very good-looking shed, and the construction was on point 👍
Would you suggest using house wrap or felt papper under the siding to help protect against moisture intrusion just thinking of how nice of a job you have done and if you regret skipping that step or if you think it even matters ?
excellent video. until i heard him say "ruff" its roof brother lol i need to build a shed to keep some bikes out of the weather and this will help me plan it out
Great looking shed. I'm building a similar style shed with a 2/12 roof pitch and curious how your shingles are doing. Any leaks/issues with such a low pitch? All the shingle manufacturers are asking for double underlayment for 2-3 /12 pitch
I just recently bought an Amish built 8x12 high barn shed with vapor barrier already installed, on skids, two 2 ft lofts for just around $3,100 and free delivery. I calculated out the cost of the amount of lumber it would have taken to build the same thing and it was right around the same price, so I just bought pre made. But jazzed it up a bit. Added in flooring and shiplap style siding in the walls in the inside.
Are you worried about just having the T111 attached to studs as opposed to other methods of siding like sheathing, wrap then siding? in washington state and im trying to decide most appropriate / budget friendly route. Thanks for your help.

Pete, when do you think you will post the warming shed project. Going to build a rink this winter, won’t have time for a warming shed this season, but plan on working on it this summer for next winter. I wonder if you could comment on placing it on skis to drag around the yard. I bought some puck board for a previous project and thought I would build the warming shed on 4x6 beams and put the puck board underneath the beams to drag around in the winter. Don’t have a skid steer to move my sheds around. Thoughts??
I have built a few sheds. Great job. I always use a Z strip at the seam to keep the water out.

Came for the shed, stayed for the background. Amazing views
Color scheme is on point for a modern look. Thumbs up
Awesome video! I’m glad the RUclips algorithm suggested your channel to me.
Thanks for doing this, and even showing the costs. All the little things add up, and it's nice to see you be honest about it.

I know making it structurally sound is the most important, but the gray and stained wood look so good, that is what catches my attention the most
Thanks, I needed to understand a lean flat roof. I just think it’s saver for one person.
Thank you, Pete! I just got the plans for this and can't wait to get started on my own project. I will send you a video once it's completed.

I'm originally from Livingston. I recognized the hill behind you. Good work brother.
That is by far one of the most beautiful sheds, I've ever seen. Big thumbs 👍 here. Just awesome and detailed instructions.

You need to make a vocabulary list for all the carpenter jargon you are using. A lot of us would like to learn.
a very nice cover to target shoot from when its snowy or raining. i like it.
You’re a craftsman. Great job. Question: did you rent or buy the scaffolding? Thank you.

5:01 Did you mean "Structural _lag_ screws" ? Where did you use them? Through the top of the joists and down into the skids?
Wondrous designs to build a perfect home
Thanks!
Great color and love the trim
Thanks!

Thanks for watching!
Fascinating video! I couldn't build a dog house, much less a shed.
This was a great video. Very detailed. Greatly appreciated this. Love the excel sheet also. Thank you
