- My new favorite option for backpacking cook pot and coffee press. I love really good coffee on the trail and for the most part have used my Jetboil as it has the French Press kit. Then I ran across the Snow Peak Java Press. An ultra light, 7 ounces, and a capacity of 3 cups, and a french press. It makes great coffee and is super lightweight.
This French Press is so nice because it doubles as a stove pot. I love it because its the only cookware I will need to bring on lightweight trips. I boil water in it, use half to make breakfast and the rest to make coffee, breakfast in 10 minutes! Best part is this is the only cookware that has told me it's safe you use on campfire coals. I love being able to make coffee or tea on the fire whenever I want. Could not ask for more from my French Press

Thanks for watching. Love Snow Peak gear
I have one and it’s amazing! You make great products!!
Just picked one up, can't wait til tomorrow morning to try my first cup. The filter system looks to be the best I've seen...
For better results give it a good stir after putting the grounds into the water. I use a press nearly everyday and now need one of these. Great video.
Great tip Kev. I will try that next time. Thanks for watching.
yeah that's the ticket and waiting approximately 4 mins. it's the process to get the flavor out of the beans, ground beans
My daughter and her hipster friends loved mine when we last went car camping. All five of us used it every day. I use mine at home on occasion also.
I own the SP coffee press and love it. I hand grind my beans as well. You will want to course grind the beans if possible. I boil the water, measure in the coffee, give it a light stir, attach the top/filter combo and let her steep. Give it a slow press and you are good to go. The SP press makes some of the best coffee I've ever had.
That is great Richard. Do you have one of those lightweight grinders too. I can't quite find one to get yet. I am pretty happy to have finally got it though. Been pretty resistive to the titanium gear but this is just perfect.
Nature Calls Backpacking, My manual burr coffee grinder is made by JAVAPRESSE COFFEE COMPANY. It is stainless steel. It is adjustable that allows the user to dial in the grind for various applications. For brewing coffee in my Snow Peak Coffee press, I dial the manual adjustment to a rather course grind. I use the grinder/press combo at the house and on the trail. Amazon carries the grinder and it is very reasonable.
This really is a great product! I use it for backpacking, and I often use it instead of my Keurig at home because it tastes so good!! Totally worth the scratch!!!
Great video as always. Coffee + Friends + Nature = Blessed.
Hit the nail on the head with that equation. This has become my most used cook piece for the last few months too.
Do you have a favorite Coffee? How do you like your Coffee?
Every time I have money burning a hole in my pocket I wish and wash back and forth around in circles about this Snow Pea french press.
I guess what I really want is to find one NIB for dirt cheap but now after seeing this video next time I have the money I will definitely order one.
Another great review.
I had my REI dividend that felt like I wasn't spending anything. Great justification there. The real plus is I have some fun stoves that I never take because I don't have a great lightweight way to make coffee, but this really hits all the needs for basic gear setup. Could probably do soup and oatmeal also. I think you should get one.
Minimalist Moto Life - I'm frugal but I love my morning coffee. The Snow Peak press is light and durable. You can heat the water right in the press. I use mine at home or camping.
Just ordered mine last night, cant wait to brew my first pot...
What a perfect little setup!
Exactly Morgan. So excited to hear from you. How is the little momma?
Very cool for the coffee drinkers. I will drink it if someone is offering but don't usually have a craving for it. I'm sure I have some friends who will love this though.
It is a great find for me as a coffee drinker. I am from Seattle so we all drink coffee. Really it is perfect for the coffee person, but pretty narrow for a good all around pot.
Snow peak is the bomb nice kit Bruce!
I really am liking it more and more. I will make a little knob so it can just be a pot too. Great ultralight option.
Just to be clear, the marked “cup” graduations are for a “6” ounce cup of coffee and not “8” fluid ounces. If you measure out 12 ounces, it will come to the “2” cup mark. If you measure out 16 ounces which is truly 2 cups, it will come to the 3 cup mark. 24 ounces (3) cups, takes it to the spill level! That being said, I still like it.
Thanks for the corrections. I appreciate it
Thank you. Good video, good audio, and good info.
Thank you for the input. Sometimes I get a little carefree with the recording equipment so it is a great reminder that it is appreciated. Still loving this little press too.
I have one and love it! I Also use it at home as well.
the 24 oz Stanley pot will fit most French press filter an top. My wife and kids have broken 3 different French presses. an I kept the press part and one day, after I finally broke down and bought one of the Stanley pots, I tried one of the presses and it fit. then I tried the other two presses and they all fit. though it is a couple ounces heavier, lol. Other way is to just filter with a small strainer. thanks bruce.
That is such a great tip. I don't know how many French Press parts I have thrown away over the years. Never again. I have heard of some great ideas using parts from something on something else that I need to explore more.
I was interested in this coffee press after seeing your video. Yes, SnowPeak has excellent gear. I decided against buying this unit for one reason -- $$$ -- $55 + tax. I'll keep boiling water.
Great vid and I see you measure your coffee like I do. Great tip for the shelf stable cream and will go check it out at REI as I have divs also. I like a woman who can handle a knife.lol Thanks again and keep them coming...
Thanks Mickey. She is a great outdoor partner. I keep giving her knives too, so it will be my own fault.
Pretty slick, I like that you used the press part for a faster boil, prob not a good idea for using in fire though.
Thanks Don. This is definitely in your weight world and along with the BRS3000 stove I have a nice ultralight set up now that makes great coffee.
Nice review, but I wish they had a bigger size. This is more like a 2 cup maker at 12 oz each cup. The standard small coffee at a store is 12 oz, then 16 oz medium, 20 oz large.
That would be nice as we drink coffee like mad and having a bigger one would be nice. Great size, or weight for backpacking but I could easily carry a couple ounce more for sure.
Glad she put the knife down Bruce, Now we can enjoy more video's lol..
Thank Perry. I almost cut the audio, but thought someone would get a kick out of it. She is pretty shy so I just have to run the camera sometimes to get anything.
Life vitamin moment, nice, love from Denmark
I use a bestargot French press. It’s just 500 ml with marks but that’s all I ever need as I prepare tea in mine. I love the smell of coffee but could never stand the taste.
That's pretty nice.
Thanks for the video
Thanks Mark. I just love good coffee in the bush and this really does it great.
love to see you sporting a Michigan hat. good review. Mark
Thanks Mark. Jaylene spent a week in Kalamazoo and brought me back some swag. You are the first of the crowd to spy it.
Well I am from Michigan. So I notice stuff like that.
I have looked at this for many a year. Would love it but expensive for coffee. Also considering the GSI s/Steel coffee pot ,but do like titanium! The only draw back for both is I don't drink a lot of coffee!! Cheers Mary
It main strong point is the coffee so I would go for a different route then. I do like Via coffee too, but this for me is perfect. GSI makes great stuff, and probably the best value. Other presses like the jetboil press may fit the GSI also.
$55 USD + tax. Boil water.
great video
Thanks I appreciate that very much.
Nice review Bruce.
Thanks Dougie. The weight savings will allow me to take out the Atlas tent now.
Ha ha ha, I'd be very surprised if you chose that model for backpacking brother.
The reason the fabric puts grounds into some people's coffee is because they press too fast for the dual filter which forces grounds around the filters on the sides.
Thanks for the tip
mmmm, camp coffee! great review! ATB - Michael
Thanks Michael. Was pretty excited as I was on the hunt. Came down to a couple and this one won, basically cause I could put it in the fire if I needed. That bushcrafter inside you know.
that is a great piece of kit Bruce ! Starbuck right in you gear !
atb john
Thanks John. I am in Seattle so coffee is pretty serious around here. It is a solid little pot though. And so light.
Thats slick, I like it
I didn't really need it kind of gear, but I love that I got it now. Pretty ultralight coffee solution.
I just picked up a Stanley version. Stainless steel so much heavier...2x. I like the design that instead of a rod with a filter disc on the end it has a cylinder sleeve with a filter across the bottom. it means I don't have to disassemble anything to use the lid on the pot alone and it's easier to pack stuff in. Too heavy to solo backpack, but in a group or if I'm paddling in it'll come with me. On my own I don't want 3 cups of coffee all at once anyway so I'll use my mug mate or aeropress when solo. Now if someone could make the Stanley design out of titanium.
I love the Stanley gear and will probably get the press for everyday use. Stanley stuff can take a serious beating that the titanium would probably eventually give up. I wonder if Stanley will start venturing into the titanium. They have become pretty successful.
Would be great if they made a Ti version of that press it’s what I use every day at work and as far as ease of use, quality of coffee and maintenance it is hard to beat. It’s size and weight are it’s only downfalls.
That coffee looks weak to me. But then again i drink strength 4 and above. No cream ,, milk or sugar. I've just ordered mine looking forward to using it.
Are the markings discernible on the inside of the pot, or just the outside?
Barely really. I don't have the best vision anyway. I filed notches on my spoon now, and put the spoon in vertical to measure. Works better for me.
pretty slick man!
Thanks Tom. May not be able to do a ton else with it, but for just water and coffee it is pretty perfect.
You might find this interesting as well. It's a SP 700/jetboil conversion. Fits a canister, don't need a lip guard and it's a bit lighter: backpackinglight.com/forums/topic/26557/
Thanks. Great idea.
The link shows you all the modifications you have to go through for Mr. Smith's hack. Only you can decide if it's worth the trouble.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. Looking forward to your backpacking trips soon. I am not much of a hiking video watcher, but love the overnights.
No problem! Thank you! I just posted two overnights, one at Red River Gorge and one at Zaleski State forest in Ohio. Lots more in store this year though
if I was rich like you I could buy this shit. Instead I have to but a small coffee infuser for 7$. so for making coffee a 5$ SS 28oz cup from STP. A coffee infuser/strainer and my 1oz canister stove. Lately I have tried a cafe Vienna from trader Joe's. I kept trying even kind of metal cup but had to go back to gsi plastic glacier cup. not sure how to use a metal cup. but thks.
I am a fan of the GSI cup as well. Haven't found anything better. I would have to make something for the metal cups to just come close. I broke one of my GSI cups too and went into a panic. Isn't the titanium stuff just way too expensive for what it is. I have been hearing all kinds of options like using a real french press from a broken press in all kinds of metal cookpots. And the Jetboil press and lid apparently fit on a lot of thing too. I also use the VIA and got some of the prebrew from Trader joes. I haven't tried it yet. Love coffee. My quest is having cream that will travel well.
dont even measure out that coffee, ya buddy, go for it! ha nice video
OH yeah. I stopped measuring decades ago. Maybe why I run through the coffee so quick though.
Ahh, it doesnt take as much water as people think to make coffee.
Hhmmm, Snow Peak coffee press $55. The Porlex mini coffee grinder is $59 at Amazon but $85 dollars at other retailers. You're out over $100 and REALLY, is the coffee that much better over boiling a cup or two of water?
ditch the PLASTIC
Trying my hardest
So........you buy a 7oz Titanium Press, then you carry your coffee in that heavy ass mason jar, lol. Too funny
That was a camping trip. And we glamp pretty good. I have taken it backpacking and it is awesome.
Yup, the coat, the snow peak, the jet boil...dude, quit spending so much money on stuff lol sorry, bothers me when people pay only for status, or for the brand name
Hi Steve, I totally agree and I hope you take the opportunity to explore my channel. I never pay retail for anything, and I do a lot of diy gear, or I have many videos of inexpensive gear but durable. I have never owned a new car, and if you knew me personally, the word status and brand name is not something that you would associate with me. I do believe, and have taught all of my children, all of which are in the military if that tells you anything about me in that I instill a sense of community and service, and I also taught them and believe that sometimes it is better to pay for quality once. In fact a majority of my videos you will see a very old $20 Costco down puffy that has tape all over it. I also have done videos on taking care of gear to make it last. But if every once in a while I want to treat myself to something with my own money, having nothing to do with status or brand name I will. And on top of all of that, I have invested my own money and time into making videos for others. I would be happy to show you how to not spend a lot of money for high quality gear. That sounds like a good video, thanks for the idea. Take care, Bruce
