thanks, didn't know that thing yet, put it on my list ...
When I was a teen and in student exchange, the grandmother of my French counterpart teached me the real / conventional way to brew french coffee - just put coarse ground coffee and hot water in a pot and wait for a couple of minutes, then pour it through an ordinary fine strainer in the cup, done. Add sugar and eau de vie (!) as per taste.
A french press makes the process more comfortable, one doesn't have to deal with a strainer but instead simply has to press the button a long way down - but at the end of the coffee, there is no extra win and no difference in taste compared to the other method.
You have to clean the mesh piston as well as a strainer, means also there is no win, and if you are a fan of multipurpose gear, a strainer is in fact much more multipurpose than that mesh thing of a french press, maybe even lighter than the mesh plus pressing pillar etc - so for ultralighters or bushcrafters etc the good old strainer method might be even slightly better.
Still - I am a huge French Press fan. Got at home one which is stainless steel and had cost a fortune, after having crashed several glass ones (which in sum also had cost a fortune). Might need that Titanium thing for travels and outdoors ... ;-)

Granted this is two years later I finally broke down I got bestartgot French TEA press. Now no more bags of tea crumbs, nothing but full leaf delight tea. I have always, since a child, loved
the smell of coffee but was never able to abide by the taste. Now I can make tea the way it’s been made for 1000’s of years. I under stand about the modifications that need to be made. Well now they’ve started. It now comes with press comes with a wooden handle. I’ll never go back to bags on the trail again except maybe when light weight backpacking (sans tent, etc…) and then the weight is so light I might not give up the delight of my morning. A fresh cup of whole leaf tea. It will be like having a caterer along to take care of the food.

That's a good deal for just the pot. The French press is a bonus.
If you really want next level coffee, roast your own beans. You'd be surprised how quickly coffee stales after it's been roasted whether it's been vacuum sealed or kept in the freezer. Beans roasted within a couple of days is way better. Plus, you can experiment with how long to roast. Lightly roasted is like a rare steak. An espresso roast is more like well done.
Buy five pounds of beans and get half a dozen different coffees just by different roasts.

Ernie... Thank you for reviewing this coffee press. Was able to save $5+/- via Aliexpress. Of course gotta wait a lifetime and a half for it to arrive. 😂
The fact the item can be used as a regular pot was the deciding factor. Multi functional uses are a plus. Thank you again for ALL your reviews. Blessings to you & your family.

Woodknot Gear coozie fits this much better than the Bestargot zip up one. I start with the Toaks 550ml 103mm cup, put the lid from a Toaks 750ml into the cup to give me a lid with a handle, then the french press in the coozie nests inside the cup. Everything fits inside that padded mesh stuff sack. Nice compact system. Carry it, along with a Trangia Triangle, on my motorcycle for roadside coffee

It's nice when a piece of camping gear will do more then one job. Someone at Bestargot had their thinking cap on when they designed that French Press , must of been a hiker. I'm a Neanderthal ( Geezer ) since I use a Vargo Titanium coffee filter. That Evernew titanium Appalachian set has been stand by ( for a lot of years ) when using alcohol for cooking.

I would purchase this item if there were three upgrades. 1) The press rod was two pieces like the Jetboil. With two pcs. I can drink out of the heating vessel w/o removing the press. 2) Move the handles 90 degrees around the cup base so I could drink out of the cup 180 deg. opposite of the pour spout....that is under one of the bale brackets. 3). Upgrade the bag so it would also insulate the cup ( ie. coozy). Ti cools quickly and I like my coffee in about 6oz cups...not 2-2 1/2 cups at a time. Thanks Ernie, great item that for me just needs a little tweaking.

I know this is late, but use a Toaks 750ml pot with the bail, add the JetBoil silicone press from zip/micromo and drill a hole in the lid of the Toaks if you cant manage the press without. Ticks all your boxes I think?
...edited to add, you can just unscrew the shaft of the press and leave the mesh in the bottom of the cup and then just drink straight from it.

I use a bestargot pot for my mug, not the french press.
It is the best I have found for my morning tea. I like the cozy it comes with as well, not the stuff sack. However you might not know that makes this the perfect camp mug for me is that the lid from an Ozarks trail tumbler will fit perfectly on the 750 pot.
That lets you have insulation for your drink and from the pot as well as a bit of spill protection.

@6:05 the french press filter, in reality you only use it/push it down when brewing is finished and you are serving/decanting coffee. So long as the filter fits other pots, you can keep the pot covered with their regular lid during brewing, then for serving swap the lid for the filter and push it down.

Cowboy coffee is a tried & true method, French pressed coffee vs Cowboy coffee is like comparing: delicious too mediocre . Technically they both a Coffee..however taste buds come in too play & add in grinding your own coffee beans..well can't express well enough to accurately describe the vast difference between the two cups of Joe. Best of luck & expand the richness of Coffee ☕.

French press coffee is the best coffee. However, cleaning the coffee grounds out of a french press is difficult to me without running water. I usually settle for cowboy coffee because it's easier to clean up just a pot.

Instant coffee is amazing in the back country. I actually drink it at home too sometimes when I’m in a hurry. I’m a total coffee aficionado and I love instant coffee. It’s so simple and you can make it delicious by premixing the crystals with cool water before you add the hot water. Best part of all, zero cleanup.

Same here, only if we camp near water, otherwise too messy. Same for a percolator, but I do love both ways to make coffee. You either use a bunch of paper towels or a lot of water. I've recently been turned onto the Aeropress which initially seemed ridiculous but actually makes good coffee and creates nearly zero mess. Weighs very little, is extremely durable so far, easy to use. It does however take proprietary filters but that's not a deal breaker for me.
