Hey everyone, my preferred paints and supplies change over time. You can check out my current favourites on my Amazon page (affiliate link) www.amazon.com/shop/lostwax
I made one if these masks a couple years back and it has been amazing, I’ve used it in almost every single video I’ve appeared on camera in. I’m about to make yet another after all this time for a Death Korps of Krieg cosplay, slightly modifying the design but still using the same awesome pattern. Thank you Chris for everything!
This has got to be one of the most funniest & creative 'how to' videos with the best introduction ever 😂 Immediately captures your attention & the mask is awesome & looks fun to make.
Hey Chris, just wanted to say thank you for all the great tutorials you put up on RUclips. They are probably the best I have ever seen on Steampunk props that don't need expensive Materials or advanced skills in a certain field. So please keep up those awesome tutorial and keep up making things.
Thanks! I really try to keep thing as cheap and accessible as possible- there's always the temptation to make something that little bit more awesome with some hard to find or expensive thingy, but I need to remember that most people are limited in budget or skills, and it's good to get as many people making as possible.
Nobody can be tired of you Chris!!!!!!!... In fact, most of us can't get enough of you, your sweet voice, your creativity and that tiny head :D Good work!
Just remembered my 10yo daughter needs a WWII gas mask for School on Friday (it's Wednesday). We've resigned ourselves to failure on this occasion. But loved your post here. Wish I'd seen it last week.
Very cool, thanks. If you go to the craft stores, they often have a ton of sticky dot (rivet sized) for a buck, in with scrap booking supplies (in case someone doesn't have the patience for the glue dots).
My friend just so you know I never get tired of your tutorial's it's fun I've made the steampunk plague doctor mask in to a gas mask but I made mine out of sheet metal an it is functioning as a gasmask.
Lost Wax it was an awesome Halloween costume. Added leather to it also. I made my adopted daughter one also. She had one made of cardboard an duct tape but it was metallic duct tape an hers is also a functioning gas mask. With activated charcoal an cotton was well.
Does this pattern work if the eye gaps were one? And didn't have the pig snot? Or do you have a different pattern that sits closer to the face without a snot
As always very entertaining intro. I really think I need to make one of your designs and use it in one of my makeup videos because your stuffs amazing and would be a fantastic aid of awesomeness.
Omg your daughter is so big, and so cute. This mask looks amazing, maybe for some other idea for the design at the end is to use the fancy design you used for the other gas mask pattern. It would look nice too. Love your work, always amazing.
maybe not chris, I was looking at the patterns in the videos and the filter canister from this one and the other one from the other mask is mainly the same, the one thing needed would be making the tube that goes to the rest of the mask to fit on the pattern
i love how at first its all doom and gloom then he says "KAY LETS LEARN HOW TO MAKE IT" and then the song in the background is like the most HAPPIEST song in the world - w -
Sad that you actually have to say that it doesn't protect you and that you need air to survive (evolution in action) ;). Working on this one. Gf is a big Dr Who fan so is a friend's wife so may make and gift to of the empty child ones :). To you and the rest of the folks who do tutorials and spread your skills, thank you. Looking into modding the jet pack with some other materials
Looking to do something to go with a Fallout 3 cosplay. I would use the Plague Dr mask I bought (made like six from that), but this would be more authentic.
I think I’m going to use this to make the mad chemist Krueger skin in modern warfare. I have definitely been inspired. I will probably reinforce it with fiberglass and oakley lenses and use it for airsoft. When I get around to it I will send my final result :) thank you lostwax
Hey there! Great video, love the cinematics. I had a question about the mask: Do you think I would be able to create a PDF-D style mask using this template? The mouth is a bit smaller and theres a nose so I don't know if it would work, what do you think?
Hmm, I'm not sure how easy it would be to convert, there's not a ton of room for the hose that comes out above the filter thing..... It's definitely possible, but it would definitely need some alteration.
hello! Very good pattern, I really find it interesting to try to put it together but to buy it I would like to know if it is possible to make the transaction since I am in Mexico :(
*disclaimer* some of this is true and some of this is just a joke. But seriously, nice job! I got hooked and was sooooo excited like a fish underwater to make this item. I was also soooooooooo looking forward to the template. I was so intrigued by the video. Nice Job!!!! Then I went to the website to get the "pattern". Then, I saw the price tag. (dun dun dun). My Asian mind is thinking, "what are u thinking? you aint gonna buy nothing! you gotta crappy enough computer! you cant afford 7 dollars! You need that for RICE!!" Up out on land where lost wax thinks he caught someone *line slackens* Lost wax: "dang it! I think I caught one of those asian peeps that think im cool but are broke af

Hello - we are trying to purchase the full face mask - However the charge is not going through - we have tried several times - Is there an issue with the site?
Hi there, Thanks for contacting me, I’m not sure what is going on there, but the first thing I would try is to use a different browser and see if the problem still persists. Also check to make sure your computer isn’t autofilling the discount code box with part of your address, that also messes things up. Other than that, it is possible that Gumroad has flagged your card for some reason- Gumroad seems to have quite aggressive anti fraud aspects, and every once in a while they don’t accept a payment from a card that is in good standing. If trying with a different browser doesn’t work, let me know and I can set up a PayPal invoice and email that to you. It’s a bit of a manual workaround but it never seems to fail:) You can email me at lostwaxozcontact@gmail.com I'm just going out for a bit though so it will be a couple hours before I am able to respond....

You are the BEST DIY-maker I've ever seen!

Hehe, I wish that worked for my 2 year old. I'd be a lot less tired today :)
nice dr who reference " are you my mumy ?"
You're talented and so much fun to listen to and watch.
Just remembered my 10yo daughter needs a WWII gas mask for School on Friday (it's Wednesday). We've resigned ourselves to failure on this occasion. But loved your post here. Wish I'd seen it last week.
You could totally do it!
Yes, it’s been made! And there’s even different versions! This is amazing!
Thank you Chris, we had a group project about world War 2 and this came really handy on our costume.
Awww, cool!
_YAAASSS!!! That intro was flawless._
Awww, thanks.
I wish I had your cinematography skills. The opening in epic
I love the Doctor Who reference
So glad your back with yet another awesome design
I'm totally making this to style-up super market trips during corona time
Very cool, thanks. If you go to the craft stores, they often have a ton of sticky dot (rivet sized) for a buck, in with scrap booking supplies (in case someone doesn't have the patience for the glue dots).
2:47 that cyan empty child gas mask on the left looks so cool
I love your videos! So funny and fun to watch to learn how to do things.

These intros just keep getting better and better.
Thanks!
When I was little that episode creeped me out, but now I think it was a cool ep
As always very entertaining intro. I really think I need to make one of your designs and use it in one of my makeup videos because your stuffs amazing and would be a fantastic aid of awesomeness.
Totally! Maybe I should use one of your tutorials and paint my face for a video......
😉 That would be awesome!!
Omg your daughter is so big, and so cute.
This mask looks amazing, maybe for some other idea for the design at the end is to use the fancy design you used for the other gas mask pattern. It would look nice too.
Love your work, always amazing.
Yes, that end piece would look nice. Might have to scale it a little to get it to fit.
maybe not chris, I was looking at the patterns in the videos and the filter canister from this one and the other one from the other mask is mainly the same, the one thing needed would be making the tube that goes to the rest of the mask to fit on the pattern

"With some paint... and some paint brushes"... love it👍
I have a small question and that is, can this be done with cardboard to?
loved this one, definitely going to make the steampunk one but love the options!
You crack me up with the intros... Nice work bud! That was a lot of gas masks you had to make!!!!
Tell me about it!! I am now probably the fastest foam gas mask maker in the world with all the practice I've had :)
I like the little and her mom in the black gas masks
I have a real gas mask that the dr who one was based off of. It’s called the GP5 gas mask. This looks almost like it! Amazing job!
Thanks!
Sad that you actually have to say that it doesn't protect you and that you need air to survive (evolution in action) ;).

What's everything you need to make this like pacificly how many sheets of foam board and all that stuff. I'm making it for a school project 😅
100000 bonus points for the doctor Who reference. :)
Sweet! That's the most points I have ever got:)
lol :)
So cool! Keep it up!
Man, I love your videos! Your stuff always turns out great!
Looking to do something to go with a Fallout 3 cosplay. I would use the Plague Dr mask I bought (made like six from that), but this would be more authentic.
love this, just sitting here trying to figure out how to modify this to be a whaler mask from Dishonored
X,D Cool that your children like your stuff :,D Even if it gets a bit weird. (Yes i know it's from doctor who)

@@LostWax Hmm ok thank you so much! I might be able to stretch it a bit and make the mouth filter smaller? I'll ee if it works then.
You say 5-6mm foam for eyes and 10-12mm foam for the filter part, but how thick foam do you use for the actual mask parts?
The actual mask is made from 2mm foam.
Doctor whooo. I love this series
Hey, how to make the right template is about size, how to calculate and print then
Best intro i think youve made yet!!!
do you think this pattern will work on denim instead of foam? i am wanting to make a gas mask out of denim for a college project:)
Honestly, I'm not sure. I think you'd still need to stiffen the denim so it holds it's shape.
Nice intro m8!
Thanks!
The intro looks like: meanwhile in Prypet 1986😃
Perfect to wear to the store!!
So awesome I'm definitely going to make one or two
It is all fun and games, until there are creepy gasmask children!
Love the intro and the tutorial is AWESOME!
Aww, thanks so much!!

How many millimiters has the foam you use here?? Love it. Thanks ❤️
most of the foam I used is around 2mm thick I also use some 10mm and 5mm foam.
I freaking love for your sketches!!!!! 😂😂😂
Another amazing tutorial!!! Thank you!!!!! 😁🔝
Made it - love it - thank you!!
You made it already!! Impressive!
I did! If I can be as quick about taking a good photo of it, I will send it to you.
Sweet!
Tu est un génie !
As a whovian I feel blessed
I see what you did there, fellow Whovian
Hey, Chris. Do you have any templates or tutorials in the style of this, but with the double ventilator?
I don't have a double one...Sorry.
I would call it "Dieselpunk", but still a great job!
Thanks! Yeah, depending on the paint and style I feel it could go either way.
I think I'm gonna make one
Do you know where I could get a goose tube? Or what it is called in technical terms?
Honestly, I don't know, maybe some sort of hunting shop? I got mine at a thrift store.
I'm so glad they added "are you my mummy?"
So So so good

this is amazing
That Dr Who reference in the intro.
can we make these good enough for going out with covid going on? XD
how hard would this be to transform it into a Plague Doctor mask?
Probably easier just to make the plague doctor mask here: ruclips.net/video/FpyktmGHCYA/видео.html
Hahahahaha Is like a Doctor Who episode
Nice intro mate ! :D
Can you relay on this mask in shtf situation?????
Hi Chris.I think you can make Daft Punk Helmets. They would look awesome or what abaout steam punk D.P helmets ;) ?
Maybe.......
gosh this is good !!
is there any way to add those two side bits you find on some gasmasks?
I think that would be pretty easy. Just glue em on the sides.
