    The only firearm I ever sold and regretted was a Colt "Frontier Six Shooter" with 7.5" barrel. That revolver was hellafun! When you are ready to load for this do yourself a favor and get your hands on the Lyman 2nd Edition Pistol and Revolver Handbook. There was a feature article in this manual written by Hank Williams Jr., who just happens to be a SAA aficionado. The load he recommended for the .44 WCF used 700X and shot exactly to the point of aim. I look forward to your workup with this piece!

    After Uberti introduced the "Cattleman 2" lockwork with the hammer mounted retracting firing pin (aka the "Three Click Hammer"), Cimarron kept the original Colt style lockwork in the Evil Roy. That revolver has since been discontinued and replaced by the "Arizona Ranger" that I believe kept the original lockwork. At present the Arizona Ranger is only available in .357 Magnum and .45 Colt. The .44 WCF (.44-40) is a great cartridge. It really shines in its original application-a black powder cartridge in a rifle.

    I have an Uberti Cimarron 1873 Revolver in .44-40 with a 7.5" barrel. It also shoots low @ 25 yds. using the same ammo I load for my Uberti 1860 Henry Carbine that shoots @point of aim at a 50 yd. target. I have only shot that revolver once a long time ago. Once the weather gets better I will take the Henry and that revolver to the range and give them a go.

      @@viejo2a I use that same Lyman mold, but the old tire weight bullets mic to .429. Pure lead mics to .427, I think. I went to the range today and shot my 1860 Henry and my Cimarron 1873 revolver.

      Hiya Ranger! I KNEW you’d like this one. It actually shoots pretty well with the right ammo. With a little ‘shade tree’ gunsmithery on that front sight, all will be well with the universe. I REALLY like 44 WCF. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

      @@viejo2a You bet! Cimarron is less than a 2 hour drive from here. My niece and nephew are planning to take me there in the near future. That'll be fun.
      The Evil Roy series has been discontinued, so I'd trim the sight and hang on to that one.
      Again, I'm really pleased you got this one, as 44WCF clambering is kinda rare in that model. 👍

    With the cylinder at .430 would cast bullets from wheel weights sized at 431 be ideal? That is what I am using in the 44 mag with good success.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  Месяц назад

      Hi, Chris, and thanks for stopping by. With both my 44WCF revolvers, chambering is very tight with bullets at .431. Any slight variance prevents the rounds from fitting the cylinder. As a result, I size those bullets at .430. With powder coated bullets, I’m not getting any leading, and they are still .001 larger than bore diameter so obturation there is fine. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
