I often imagined, that being the Three-Eyed Raven means that yes, you are no longer yourself. What makes a person who they are is the sum of all their experiences and memories... but what happens when you have the memories of an entire land of people, stretching back for dozens, if not, hundreds or thousands of years? The one set of memories and experiences that made you 'you' would be lost in amongst all that other noise...
I imagine it would be like blending 16 million colors together.... you'd just end up with some kind of grey.

This is a good point! I always felt that he died in that cave with Hodor and Summer. After that point he was no longer the same. I think him coming to the realization of why Hodor was the way he was, plus him being responsible honestly just made him emotionally check out. And knowing everything it's just easier than feeling the pain truly.

Robert Baratheon did say meeting The Dothraki in an open field was more or less a death sentence. Meeting them on the field with a dragon backing them? Ooof. Jaime and The Lannister army had no chance.

A little tidbit is that near Highgarden is also where the "Iron Fist" army of House Lannister and House Gardener (who ruled The Reach before the Tyrells) fought Aegon Targaryen's invasion of Westeros. It's called the Field of Fire as the entire army of the two Houses was burned down by Aegon's dragons. After the battle it is in these fields Lorren Lannister bent his knee to Aegon the Conqueror. So this battle, the sides and the outcome mirror those events. But Jon should now that after subduing the south Aegon turned his eye northwards...maybe the new Conqueror will do the same.

I think Sansa and Jon’s reunion might have been more emotional because it was one of the “first” and Sansa was running from a desperate situation (running away from Ramsey) and desperate for safety. Now Sansa is in her home. Bran is no longer really Bran so I understand his reaction. Arya and Sansa also had a complicated relationship and different interests as children so I also understand their reaction. I still felt the love in all the reunions and they are part of my favorite scenes in the whole show.

People forget that when Bran realized that he was the one that made Hodor Hodor, that basically traumatized him to the nth degree. He doesn’t want to ever do that to someone ever again and hence he is so stand-off with his emotions. He truly cared for Hodor as a person and that realization would turn anyone off.

The reunions just hit different when you're watching in real time and wait with bated breath for years on end for it to happen. I used to love seeing the reactions of ppl freaking out lol. Let's not forget these weren't your standard 'TV reunions' that happen after about five episodes of separation. These were as genuine as it gets. I hope you’re ready for my dissertation on why the Starks were acting like That:
Bran became everyone who has lived and will live after he became The Three Eyed Raven, when you have all those memories and potential prophecies running around your mind full time to the point where you’re not even present in the time your body is living that can override any sensitive personality that we know bran to have. His stoicism at this point it’s just all that can hold all of that comes of being a Three Eyed Raven.
Also, I think the reason the other two Stark reunions felt a bit flat compared to Jon and Sansa is one, they were the first good thing that’s happened to the Starks in how many years and two, the Stark Theme that played in the background elevated the scene. The music in the show plays such a huge part in giving us emotional depth, I think cutting out the Stark theme brought down the emotions of those scenes. The feelings of “home“ whether it be a person (Jon and Sansa finding each other), or it being back in your home after seven years and seeing your siblings who you thought were dead but them cutting the music that we now associate with Starks finally winning undercuts the emotional payoff we should get from the remaining kids finally being home and finding one another.
And finally I think her staring at Arya when she was fighting with Brienne is just the realization that her siblings are changed. I mean Brandon is no longer the little boy she knew 7 years ago and Arya has a list of people she wants to kill and Sansa can see that her sister COULD kill people with the skills, it’s the realization that her family has forever changed. Maybe in her mind Bran and Arya stayed children, they stayed these annoying little siblings who she probably held in her mind all these years so it was more shock maybe? And realization.

  • @williamguenthenspberger

    • @bill.godwin-austen

That's very likely. Sansa had always seen Arya as a bit of a "tomboy", but to see her sparring with someone of Brienne's caliber, and coming out on top, would have freaked her out. Bran's not Bran anymore, and that definitely wasn't the same girl she remembered as her baby sister.

As far as your question of why Littlefinger gave Bran the valerian steel dagger, I think that he did it as a tactic to basically get in good with the Starks. He has always been a master manipulator, making chess moves to maneuver his way towards greater power & influence.

I always look at Sansa’s reaction to Arya in the courtyard is really just about the fact that there is a little envy and resentment for the fact that she endured unspeakable horror and violation after violation of her own autonomy and agency since they’ve all been apart. She was desperate and helpless almost always and lived in fear and terror. From her own point of view, it seems like Arya has been on thrilling adventures learning how to fight and protect herself while everyone else, but especially Sansa was still in Westeros suffering. I don’t think it makes how Sansa reacted right or wrong really but more just like an understandable one considering the circumstances and perspective that Sansa is coming from. Trauma coupled with her assumptions about Arya at first play a role big time.

I understand what you mean by the recent reunions feeling anticlimactic. It was probably at this point when I started to feel like they just decided to get the important plot points out of the way as fast as possible. It's almost like a friend recapping what happend instead of watching it for yourself...

I’m probably overlooking things but I noticed that Bran did hug Arya back whereas in his reunion with Sansa he didn’t do the same to her. I’m curious as to why that is. It’s not like he had a more noteworthy relationship with Arya when they were younger (that was shown at least). Did he just feel that she had a harder journey than Sansa back home?

It is hinted Bran and Arya were closer than Bran and Sansa.
The first thing we see Arya do in the show is upstage Bran's archery skills with her own and he chases her off in annoyance showing they have a playful rivalry of sorts. We never see any context between Bran and Sansa directly.

    • @monlovchel

The no hugging back Sansa might be because he knows what happened to her, and even though he isn’t emotional outwardly doesn’t mean he might not be inwardly. It is on his mind as he brings it up to her as well.

The Dagger given to Bran : Season 1 Episode 3 i think When Catelyn comes to Kings landing and Little finger says the dagger is his but loses it to Tyrion Lannister due to some kind of bet Thing is Do we believe petyr baelish that it is his or was it to Frame Tyrion on purpose
But then Was the dagger given to bran in show yes as we have seen But the books haven't been written yet seasons 6, 7, and 8 are written by Dumb & dumber ( David & Dan HBO Writers)

I'm gonna say that this is actually a great episode from start to finish other than the Jaime unrealistically not dying part. But besides that ending, the other stuff is pretty awesome. The magnitude of how they shoot that battle feels huge. The whole episode is a perfect storm of action, drama and emotion. Hell they even manage to squeeze in a reunion in all this. That alone would've been the focus of the season finale of other shows. Here it's just a throwaway. For all the complaining this gets, most directors would feel lucky if they put out something 1/4th as majestic as the finished product here.

First of all bran is the three-eyed Raven so he sees all which is why he asked him if he knew whose dagger that was he already knew the answer but he wanted to see what little finger would say which is why he threw back his own words to him saying chaos is a ladder and with Dani, yeah and made have seemed a little the irrational fof her to do but it was more strategic. she took Jons advice she didn't go there to butcher men however she just wanted to take away cersei's food supplies and green supplies to feed her armies now she doesn't have a way to do that so it was a tactical attack in my opinion

If we take aside the Aunt/Nephew thing, Jon and Daenerys would make for a great couple. I meanz Ygritte was cute, but she was really the type of wild girl you meet at a bar Saturday night, get drunk and sleep together, then wake up Sunday morning and forgot her name. Daenerys is the woman of your dreams, Queen, beautiful, dynamic, fearsome, and she has dragons. There is no comparison.

    • @Nihilanth

plus, GRRM said Ygritte/Khal Drogo relationship with Jon and Dany are parallels. it's way more explicit in the books, but it was an abusive relationship. they both had no choice other than being there. it's called Stockholm syndrome
