    I have 2011 BMW 528i with hi temp 250! I’m going to try this tip this weekend! Does the oil need to be drained first? Or can I just do the oil pass early in the morning before I drive it? Great video!

    Watch your carbon build up, your engine won’t get the chance to burn off carbon during highway driving if it’s too cool. Getting around 240 on highway is good for the engine.

    • @nsflarna
      @nsflarna 3 года назад +3

      yeah i feel this mod is useless. You can simply get a thicker oil like a 5w40 or 10w40 it'll do the same thing. Also when oil is at the operating temperature it's where it offers the most lubrification. Especially at your milleage i wouldn't try to get cooler oil.

  • @andersschrder108
    @andersschrder108 4 года назад +10

    This is so bad. U do NOT want to delete your oilcooler thermostat.
    As other people have stated, your oil needs to reach the correct operating temperature, to have the correct viscosity and lubrication properties.

    • @John-qc1zv
      @John-qc1zv 3 года назад +1

      Agree, you want the temperature of oil to reach close to 200f for extra protection. I would be scare to spun a rod bearing.

    I know oil needs longer time to take good temperature but my car is only for weekend and good wheater time.
    Dont cross 2000 RPM before 70C so for me its no problem to wait.

The ones that are currently on the market in my country have a bit too high mileage with some of them having 200k + which is a bit too much for me. I think I’m most probably going to have to convince my parents to spend more so I can get one with lower mileage hopefully around 100k or less. It’s good to know that the car treats you well. You really should not do this - for an number of reasons. Unless you are tracking your car and causing it to overheat. You WANT the oil around that 230-240 mark. Not only is car and oil designed to run at that mark, water in your oil will not start to boil off at the lower temps. Your car may also restrict coolant flow and may run slightly rich - wasting gas - in order to get up to temp it wants.
    That being said - I really like the other DIY videos you have done and am following the VANOS one at the moment.

    • @stoss-11
      @stoss-11 3 года назад +1

      That’s not necessarily true, the cars are designed to run that hot incase dummy’s push it to hard the engine doesn’t total itself. That being said cutting your oil temps in half will not do anything but prolong the life of your Engine. I have a 2015 335 m sport and I upgraded my oil cooler to 5 extra rows (CSF) and I did the actual bms oil cooler valve he was supposed to do in this video. I also went to 5w-40 over 5w-30 and I strictly commute to work Monday through Friday. I don’t see any problems with my car getting up to temperature nor do I find my gas mileage being affected. BMWs from the factory run insanely hot bringing its oil temps down is doing nothing but good. I do see what your saying if temps are insanely low it could pull front coolant and waste gas but none of us are running that cold. I push my car harrrrrrd and i notice the difference in the temps being down 100%. Personally I would not recommend swapping around parts like that tho, the piston and the spring came like that from the factory for a reason. I’m sure BMW didn’t swap that themselves for better cooling, their engineers I think they’re smart enough to know. I feel it’s way smarter to just spend the $50 on the bms part that you are suppose to put in there like I did and see actual results. Don’t worry about running “to cold” you would need insane amounts of cooling upgrades before you need to start worrying about your car not getting up to Temp. Lol
