Rebuilding My Turbo Mini Engine // Part 2

- In this video, we continue the disassembly process of my 2009 Mini Cooper JCW. It has a misfire in cylinder 4, and I’m taking you guys alongside me while I remove all of the components on the top of the engine so I can remove the cylinder head from the block.
In the part 1 ( • Rebuilding My Turbo Mi... ), we removed the air box, the intake piping leading to the turbocharger, the intake manifold, most of the ignition system, the wiring harness that connects to the ECU, and some other components. In this video, we keep the ball rolling and get it closer to being able to remove the head.

Again: THP (Turbo High Pressure) engines made by PSA and BMW has a known timing chain problem. If that chain expands, even just 1 millimetre, the engine will not regulate well anymore, you'll have power loss, can lead to misfires or running on less cylinders. I understand that you want to investigate further and that an engine rebuild is very good, but it is not necessary.
Correct, don't even attempt a rebuild, just chuck in a new motor. For a guy to use an impact on a valve cover bolt that is designed to be torqued to 10nm, might as well forget it. Seen one of the worst N16's from 2011, 47000km, never missed a service, chain elongation was 3mm, was so much, you didn't even need a measuring instrument. Cylinder honing is a waste of time on these too. Some are so nasty, you see the valve seat lifted.
So just change the timing chain will solve the problem right?

Did you checked yourHigh Pressure Fuel Pump Unit, it is well known issue on this cars, and also it does causing missfire issues... You could see if it delivers enough pressure of 5bars while car is running and starting...

I'm wondering why you are not supposed to reuse the fuel line... Can you enlighten me why the line shouldn't be reused?

Have you heard that on some year mini that plastic water pump housing
or the thermostat housing does crack after time.
Have you replaced your fuel filter? If yes, how was the condition?
You might find it easier to work on the engine if you take the whole frontend off in one piece
Here's a tip for draining the oil on your mini so that you don't get hot oil all over you when you drain it. Keep your socket wrench on your socket, but push up towards the oil pan on the handle of your wrench. This applies the necessary friction to get your ratchet to actually click over, and the slop in the socket and ratchet combo allows your hand to be high enough such that the oil won't drain on you.
You're a god amongst car youtubers; keep it coming! Honestly dude, your content is what inspires me to work on my own car. Just took my transmission out and changed my clutch myself. And BTW you should think about getting higher output injectors since yoiu already have them out.

Love the rebuild vids! I feel like you should have gotten a 05-06 R53, it would have been more reliable, and would make more power if turbo’d. The N14’s just aren’t good motors.

You can reuse the fuel line. I have done it no issues.
I worked in an auto parts store for like 8 years. I would recommend against dumping your coolant into the oil drain can, along with your drained oil. In my experience, most places that recycle oil will not allow you to recycle oil that has been contaminated with coolant and/or water. There are places that will, but they are much harder to find.
Can you do a video on car timing? I got a 2010 accord coupe as a project car and it shakes a bit when it idles in traffic or when the heat is on.

How was it running like crap that lead you to think that the head was the issue? Is this the same head that you port and polished? If so if you didn’t tune the car to accept the increased air to fuel, It will not run correct.
Would you recommend a carbon cleaning service to remove the deposits?
good video, but I don't understand why you didn't remove your radiator drain plug, it seems like you made a bigger mess doing it the other way. if you would of removed the drain plug most of the coolant would of being removed thanks to gravity, leaving the fluid in the radiator will just make a bigger mess from my experience. Also you would be satisfied knowing you put fresh new fluid back in.

well I'm pretty sure Milan would've covered the basic checks 'off camera' to ensure its not just a simple issue ie coil pack or plug etc maybe even carried out a leak down test which would pretty much shout-out what the issue was. thus leaving that possible video for later. uknow aiming more onto getting the car fixed rather then worrying about video's for utube etc etc
