Fun fact: Pilgrim was played by Hightower, the same horse who played Ginger in the 1994 Black Beauty.
Pilgrim was also played by Pet, Buck Brannaman 's horse
Docs keeping time is also in the movie, he portrayed black beauty
All these years and I never knew this!!!!
Wow ! Thanks for that.🤩
I never knew that but I did think the horse looked familiar
He understands that it's not just the horse he's being asked to fix.
Absolutely. It's understood that he never just treats the horse, he treats the rider too. As Tom puts it "I treat horses with people problems." Buck Brannaman's philosophy verbatim.
Horse whisperer again one of the best movies Robert Redford thank you sharing it always the best actor how wonderful it is
What amazes me is how after the accident pilgrim would just freak at the sight of Grace. It’s like he didn’t trust her because she tried to make him climb that icy hill. And now every time he sees her he flashes back to that day. Also it amazes me how Tom could just calm him right down with something as simple as a hand motion or something. If horse whisperers are real and can do that Tom definitely had it.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Technically, that's not why he was upset. He was bonded with her and when the accident happened, Pilgrim somehow felt he'd let her down by not protecting her. I know, more than a bit of a stretch, but that was the theory put forth by Nicholas Evans, the writer of the book this is based on. So the ending (in the movie) is basically Grace and Pilgrim regaining their mutual trust.
Redford did a great job with this movie but the ending still jarred for me. Hobbling the horse is NOT the way to "join" -- as Monty Roberts puts it. However, one has to put up with dramatic licence I guess. I'm just glad Redford changed the ending of the book for the movie. Nicholas ALWAYS kills off his protagonist, and in this scenario, having Pilgrim stomp Tom to death makes no sense in the context of the story and the theory of "gentling" horses.
Watch the documentary of Buck Brannaman. He's the real "horse whisperer." There's few horses he can't connect with. The only one he couldn't had been oxygen deprived at birth, and was basically brain damaged and dangerous. He doesn't let the owner off the hook either. He's tough, but kind. He was abused as a kid, so he knows first hand how good horses can go bad with the wrong kind of treatment. Not even cruel in a lot of cases, but inadvertent mistakes can wreck a horse.
Trust me, you come away from that documentary with a whole other level of understanding. Of horses AND people.
@@sadee1287 I thought it was the wild stallion that killed Tom in the book, not Pilgrim?
@@sadee1287 I think its way more of than just Pilgrim, that Tom allows the horse stomp him to death (he welcomes it), its more of for everything around him, most especially for himself.
@@HelenaRG71 its Pilgrim that kills him...
Incredible movie...beautiful.
I noticed the chestnut horse used when Tom first assesses Pilgrim was not the same horse...i understand they had to be careful/sensible . This horse had a badly disguised white blaze, whereas the Pilgrim horse had a little star on his forehead. He was then used later in the training/healing sequences. Rob Redford is a consumate horseman who i greatly respect, so his decision about the horses used must've been necessary. Oh what a lovely film. Been watching it on dvd over xmas again. Love Kristin Scott-Thomas 's acting and chemistry with Rob Redford...scintillating, gentle, heartbreaking. Also loved Diane Weist, Scarlett, the young boys....just perfect scenery, music and of course, the gorgeous horses. 😍🐎👍🌾🌿❤👌☕
Yeas it has been my absolute favourite movie since I was very little. It’s just simply beautiful and makes one cry and smile and feel happy and deeply affected every time. I showed it to my little brother who is 20 years old tonight and thought maybe he would be bored or fall asleep but he was deeply captivated by it and loved it :,) ❤️
@@Playth3record 😄👍💗🐎
Different horses were used for doing different specific stunts. There was a horse used for rearing.
Wow eine Legende in der Filmgeschichte selten so viel Emotionen gesehen wie in diesen Film jedes Mal wenn ich ihn ansehe laufen mir die tränen vor dieser schönheit von Film 😍😍
fun facts. Pilgrim was played by 7 horses.
❤️ AMEN Beautiful horse. Philadelphia USA
If you love horses, you are in love
There’s a video of a guy staring down a bull. He tossed a couple of small rocks at him like Redford did and the bull tossed him 20 feet in the air and he landed either unconscious or dead
Wrong animal to try to be the Whisperer for 😂
I have a little toy pony from the animal hospital in my pocket line, a freind of mine gave it to me if I promised to call him Pilgrim because of the horse whisperer and I did.
I read the book and watched the movie after, one of my favourites
Brilliant movie.
My horse guarded her sheep. Gentle mare until someone tried to ride her.
She took the jerk right through the thorns.
😂
Told him to stay off of her.
This is a TERRIBLE moment to end the clip
But that's where the scene ends?
Best film ever 👍
What a beautiful Movie Robert Redford Is Genius ❤️🎥🎬🤗👍😘😘
2:00 Music Goes in Different Level.
Yigh. Moving scene with the horse. ❤
Black Beauty the origin
Is Law Brock
Why isn't it the same scene as it is on the one I've seen? Where Pilgrim defended himself while kicking on the door?
💝
Fun fact...read this book...just got out of jail....was waybetter...not even the same story line
Not the ending. No way should Tom be stomped to death by Pilgrim. Makes no sense to have a "rehabilitated" horse do that. Nicholas Evans kills off the love interest in all of his books. "The Horse Whisperer," "Message in A Bottle," "Nights in Rodanthe." It's annoying as $#@%. I know he hates a happy ending but c'mon.....
Agreed, the book ending made no sense at all. I think this is one of those rare cases where the movie is an improvement over the book. I feel the movie took a bare bones story and filled it out the way it should have been@@sadee1287
My Daughter had a book of the horse whisper ...I think it was signed from her Nan ...lent it to someone & never got it back ....Why di people borrow things & not give them back ?
Lifetip: don't lend people things unless you're prepared to lose them
@@vvelvettearss well we might get it back yet XXX

I never met a horse...that I didn't like

I love this movie but the romance slows it down. I wish they didn’t go that route and stuck with Grace and the horse
So he couldt come back
Love
This movie is boring. But I watched only for Scarlett, many many times, because I was obsessed with her 💙💙💙
Robert Redford liked subtle aspects of life. River runs through it is Even a more quiet subtle movie.
I like gentle movies that take my mind to another dimension
Scarlett looks like a Kristy McNichol clone .
Wow . Everyone had a crush on Kristy McNichol too.
Good film. Redford acting is typical Redford. Not much going on there. Definitely not the level I thought it would be but entertaining.
I can guarantee you anything, broish Talia Shire and her bros are watching this on Cinemax or on UPN (back in 2001 or 2002), and yes I'm reviving UPN and creating WB, a real Warner Bros. network, no "The" before "WB," no fucking Tribune.
Anyways she's watching this, and she and her bros are saying, as they would if they just had finishing watch their baby Selma Blair's movies from this time, "my tough mothafucka." A pet name she has for Selma, because she perserved against MS and I bet Talia prepared a profane rap show with "tough mothafucka" set to "The Arrival" by Atmosphere. That must be the princess status that they hold their babies too. She must think "my tough MFer" about Scarlett. And is she not? Even as a little girl she looked like she can kick ass. And we all know what a stubborn bore she could be in "Home Alone 3." I wouldn't mess with young Scarlett or Selma.
Talia and her bros' two mutual babies - Scarlett and Selma.
"Home Alone 3" is an enigma. It's UPN/Warner Bros./WB flagship and yet the opposite of it at the same time. But what it really opposite of is the snarky arrogant first 2 movies, which is just pure mean-spirited arrogance on every character's part. That's why "Home Alone 3" is my favorite of the originals. 1 and 2 are just plain hard to watch.

As easy as you like, Scarlett... I love you... Love always, Michael...

People. ????
my family has been with horses for the last 150 yrs. 60 of those yrs I was with horses. this Hollywood movie has so much corn in it I laugh. I grit my teeth watching other movies using horses. the way they yank horses' mouths with improper bits, the equipment that is used on horses that don't fit the era, tripping and injuring horses with wire or ropes, and the cruelty inflicted on horses all over the world. I should have written a book. Redford was very good-looking but he was no great actor.
Scallet what a girll
