I've been driving German cars for 15 years (MB & Audi) and not sure I'm going to continue. Plastic parts failing, motor mounts, etc. at 55k miles and so on. The funny thing is that I was most worried about all of the tech and screens, but they've been fine. The mechanicals, less so.
@@akj2387 2018 A5 convertible purchased new and well maintained. My previous car was an MB E350 purchased new in 2012 that was a complete tank and no issues. No personal experience with the newer MB's.
Thx for the video, I'm even more convinced that my A4 b9 avant V6 TDI with 272cv is the best option for the next 10 years.... And it's much better than that car, in terms of quality Audi is now closer to seat.
@@angmid9210 I love design of new BMW's. I personally lease M4 and my wife decided on M440i. The most beautiful cars money can buy now and technically perfect. Old BMW's are simply awful.
Great car. The proportions, angles and lines are much nicer than those from BMW and Mercedes. However the badges used to be better, and too much glossy black in the interior.
Better than the competition, yes. Better than the previous models- certainly not. There was a timeless and subtle design style with the b8.5 and b9/9.5. But this just feels like it’s trying wayyyy too hard to be fancy with the lights and intakes and especially with the interior. My 2019 sq5 will be the last Audi for me unfortunately.
@@Johnny91832 LED DRL was an upgrade from most cars using halogen at the time. The matrix laser was again an upgrade from the xenon HID that the previous generations had been using. These new lights are not that. I feel like they are a tacky addition, especially the fact that they give you choices to change them from the infotainment. Am I mad at the headlights? No. Im mad at Audi for focusing their efforts on something so mundane and useless and could have used the design budget for something more significant. I personally don’t think the bar taillights are an improvement over the separated ones from previous models.
I'd love to see more high-quality fabric or fabric-like materials being used. I know it's not animal-free, but something like the wool blend on Volvos would be amazing. Some high-quality fabric couches can cost upwards of €4000 ($4300), so they can definitely go quite premium. I would have to see what this Audi's fabric feels like, but it doesn't look the most premium from the camera. Leather/leatherette is so underrated. Most uncomfortable and bum-burning material ever made.
The interiors on these new Audis look so much like the new GM interiors, like the ones in the new Chevrolet Traverse and upcoming new Suburban. Very cheap imo.
They have to save money because they are stuck between a rock and a hard place, have to spend gazillions on developing Hybrid and EV powertrains alongside petrol and diesel, the company car market is shrinking and on top of the that type of cars most people can afford to lease are getting cancelled ( RIP Fiesta) to save development money.
Here is a feedback who used to own a Audi and currently owns a BMW.. I had 2023 Q3 till recently with all the tech package a Q3 can have and paid a lot more a Q3 should be priced.. Audi and BMW has subscriptions but Audi charges a lot but BMW rates are more affordable. Audi overall is an excellent car brand but to enjoy / feel one need to go for 4 or above series anything below feels like overpriced VW.. BMW on the other hand , though upfront expensive but perfect for people who loves driving .. and luxurious justifies the price tag!! Again I’m not an expert but just wanted to share POV..
Actually I like fabric seats. They are really comfortable and feels like a cozy room when you get in car. However, that interiror looks bland. Especially when you consider those knock-off looking screens.
It's strange, everyone seems to be complaining about the piano black and the screens, but very few are complaining about the looks. Fitting, because this thing is just beautiful. Especially in this color. If i had the money, I would buy it so quickly
I have three questions, 1) Will there be A5 Allroad version available in future? 2) Do we have Sunroof option or is it just available with glass ceiling? 3) What does it look like when the passenger screen is not there?
As a current owner of a 2023 A4 Avant I'm disappointed with the interior of this new A5 and the fact a list price starting over £40k = £600 road tax in the UK so I won't be replacing with this new model.
So many bad comments. Overall is a great car: great motor, great driving, suspension, steering, sound isolation... No physical buttons and gloss black are a minus, but far from offsetting the previous mentioned. Small trunk is a big con for me.
This looks better than the sedan inmo. BUT why do they have the "unibrown" rear lights? The car would be much better looking with just a light on each side :)
I really wish Audi and the others would stop wasting money on useless tat like screens for passengers and warning signs in LED taillights, and instead give us back real, clicky, tactile and easy-to-find-without-looking buttons and switches!
Chrome is way, way better, much more classy and sophisticated than the dull black packages. I prefer my Skoda Superb SE L Kombi 2025 model with Dynamic Chassis Control Plus, 19" wheels and the rest of the extras. It will be less expensive too.
Great review Thomas. The A5 looks great in the white. I think we need you to revisit your A5 comparison to the A7 and see if you have changed your mind.
The exterior styling is great, the interior looks modern, but the car is unnecessarily long, the huge middle console covered in piano black looks too heavy and will become dirty and scratched, and the co2 emissions without the mild hybrid system are too high, so is the price after adding some equipment.
Visually interior looks much more cheaper than in previous generation. Where is aluminium or wood inside? Just dark plastic everywhere. Now it looks absolutely equal to any cupra. Of course maybe built quality is better but still…very disappointed:(
If you opt-out passenger screen, you're left with big piano black slab. Very lazy design move. At least it's on their configurator. It could be just a render.
Please Audi on the facelift of this can you offer us a tilt and slide panoramic roof, some of us enjoy being able to have the sunroof open, while enjoying the summer air breeze on a lovely summers day. I actually love this car, and would buy it, I just can’t do a car without a sunroof that opens. I’m sure many others enjoy the pleasure of the sunroof, we don’t care about the increased drag.
Since I suspected that the new A5 will have all these shortcomings like glossy plastics, cheap middle consol, only touch controls, capacitive BS and all these visible costcuttings because the car was planned on the peak of this nonsense in the VW Group (ID3, Golf 8), I decided to order the B9.5 in May allthough it also will have the touchscreen. Thats the bitter pill I have to take. But what makes me smile is that I get a car without all these things I would hate for the next 3 years. Maybe next week it`s time for the delivery.

It's a very nice car to be honest, very cool looking especially from outside BUT who the fuck can really afford this? In my home country, Finland, the avant version starts from the 57k€ and easily gets over 70k and with max specs it's around 80k.
Hello Thomas. Great video. Do you find new Audi screens big or with unusually big bezels? This is how I percieve them, while watching the video. They seem bigger than BMW and Merc.
+1 For the grandpa design! 😁 I don't know if it still exists, but some cars at their lower trim levels had the pieces around the windows black, while the higher more luxurious trim levels had it in chrome. I mean, come on, more chrome = more luxury! 😛
As the exterior design of some Audi models is now also questionable, I find the A5 quite attractive. The same applies to the fabric parts and seats in the interior - I like them much more than leather or artificial leather. However, Audi completely loses me with the creepy controls and the incredibly cheap-looking piano black in the cockpit. Even if the A5 cost less than 30k, I'd still find it cheeky for that price. In my opinion, the weak sales figures are home-made and not a consequence of the current irritation over the drive issue. I don't care whether it's electric or diesel, but I won't buy a touch-only without full autopilot. That's just plain stupid.
Another great, informative review! I own an Audi 2023 Q4 eTron. The major problem with Audi cars is that their software sucks. It is not well done and Audi cheaps out by not fixing issues and not doing updates to the software. I’ll not buy another Audi until Audi takes automotive software seriously. Mechanically and design wise Audi cars are fine, but the software and lack of proper support is a deal breaker for me.
I currently drive the 2019 A5 Sportback and the built quality inside and out is second to none, pretty much perfect ✨ 100.000km just one small repair, no squeaking, no rattling, just silence in the cabin. Materials are very high quality, real Aluminium Inlays, real leather, and soft touch everywhere 🤍 What's the strategy here with making it worse than before? I don't get it @audi 🥺😢
I think this is the only segment where the german trio still has good looking cars, i mean Audi usually has good cars in all segments looks wise but bmw and merc been messin up lately
The lack of separate heating controls puts me off. I'm surprised Audi decided to do this. An estate car is supposed to have the most practical load area, yet Audi has put a large lip at the opening of the boot, unforgiveable in an estate car. I definitely couldn't consider it as a replacement for my current estate car.
The Germans are now on the downpath when it comes to interior quality. Especially the materials are now not premium anymore. Best to see is the inside of the door pockets for example. Also the trunk is a joke. 450L and no space under the trunk floor….
Was waiting for the A5 Avant PHEV to replace my company hybrid Passat - which itself replaced a diesel A4 Avant 4-years ago because of the lack of a PHEV. I can't understand why Audi are releasing the PHEV later when the technology is already within the VAG group. Plus the pathetic rear legroom has just confirmed that my Passat will be replaced with the new generaiton Passat, I don't think there is much difference to be honest.
Dieselgate is still very much a thing. I'm quite sad to see this reeks of cost-cutting, from the 1 or 2 piston super-cheap brake calipers, to the tacky panel controls both on the doors, stearing wheel and centerconsole, gear leaver, fabric choices. - Heck even the controls are the lumbar support on the seat are cheaper. With the B9 series they shared more parts with other Audis or even Porsches. Now it's the other way around, this B10 shares lot of parts with Skoda and VW. And the thing looks like Kia ProCeed in the front. - Actually the ProCeed looks better.
These big screens internally, I just prefer a minimal screen with most important info, a handful. The rest should be able to switch on/off. It’s like a christmas tree, especially when driving evening/night time
Why does the new A5 now have the same cheap carpet fitted like the lower end models have such as A1 and Q2 but not the high quality velour carpet that was fitted in the previous generation A4 & A5? No longer a premium high quality product it seems with penny pinching going on
I have an B8 Avant S-line diesel for about 16 years already and love it. But finally I can say I can change for better. But I will wait for the version mid-hybrid with 360hp. It has the same power has the S5, but less taxes and a very good engine the A888.😏 Interiors hate touch screen, for simple things like AC. Central console, whay don’t do they do in aluminum or steel, it’s way better. And I agree, cars in general this days are extremely expensive! 😒
There is a reason why the prices of older cars in good condition with MOT TuV etc. are so firm - no hybrid , pref no turbo/downsizing engine ideally no direct injection, is the cheapest most reliable way of motoring you can get . Every new model review just reaffirms that fact , this one is no exception.
I like this A5 estate better than the sedan much more practical for putting your stuff in the back and for all the family . I love German wagons especially the uberwagons , I don't know why Americans don't like estates they are so cool. Americans have this stupid SUV craze , I prefer estates . Thomas you are working so hard you are everywhere now with these reviews , you need a break my man . Anyway , Have a nice day Thomas .
I wasn't sure initially with some designs but actually they're really looking nice, and I've never had an Avant but I could go for the S5 Avant this time.
This material interior is looking like taken from new Skoda Octavia / Superb. I was waiting for this car, but after Your videos I'm more confused than convinced that I want to buy it. PS. According to online photos of version without 3rd screen - space for screen looks terible.
The mirror adjustment unit looks and feels flimsy. The door handles are too unconventional. The interior is overloaded with screens and displays... It was as if the car had lost its face, but had not acquired a new one.
I think that the correct name is "new Audi A4,5 avant". It's a pretty good looking car, but I miss that frameless doors jeje (I had a 1st gen A5 sb and i thougth to buy new A5 but finally got the last generation of the real A5)
For being a Car that is no 4,83m long I find the space in the boot kinda disappointing. I expected this gen of Audi Midclass Sedan to spread itself between upper midclass and midclass in size and spacewise. But it doesn't seem to deliver that. Well atleast you can drive now bigger size Wheels/Tires on a Midclass Sedan/Wagon (245/40/19).
Nice video. Would be great if you can tell us what formats the usb port can take. many of us like playing our cd collection uncompressed (flac) in the car. Some car support that and its better than Spotify and cheaper when you already own your music.
As an owner of a 2024 A4 40 TFSI im really disappointed with the new model, especially with the weight. The A5 is damn heavy and with the same engine it’s slower than my A4. Nobody seems to mention the weight increase. Also the boot is smaller and I don’t like the interior. I’ll probably move to the Golf Variant once the 2.0 TFSI with 204 HP is available once my lease is over.
I was waiting for reviews to decide if I am going to get S5 as my new daily driver. Now I don't know what to get anymore. This interior is a deal breaker.
As interrior design, I hate the fact that all premium barnds have gone to cheaper and cheaper and more cheaper interiors, while prices for new cars have gone up and up! They fit less and less analogue buttons, with cheap tablets. The race for cheaper build is disguised behind "technology" in fact is a lie for customers to pay higher prices on lower quality ....its a shame
Exterior is very nice. I’m very pleased with the new more rounded and automotive design Audi is taking with its models. I liked the previous gen but I do like this one more. Great to maintain v6 in the S (I’m looking at you Mercedes with the I4) and to be honest with the exhaust But interior is horrid. Audi had the best gauge cluster in the industry. This sea of screens is wrong and to add insult to injury the new gauge cluster screen is less configurable than previous gen. No physical buttons is another no no. Other manufacturers have said they will return to physical buttons and euroNCAP will start to penalise cars without physical buttons for certain actions as it’s a distraction (it’s like using your phone but this one is a huge iPad and it’s legal somehow). Again, more black plastic and obvious downgrade in materials quality and ergonomics but price keeps increasing. Previous gen had a much much better interior. One last thing that no one is commenting on. Why is there a load lip in the boot of the avant? In wagon class 101 first rule is that wagons must have flat loading floors!!!

What car?
@@akj2387 2018 A5 convertible purchased new and well maintained. My previous car was an MB E350 purchased new in 2012 that was a complete tank and no issues. No personal experience with the newer MB's.
Thx for the video, I'm even more convinced that my A4 b9 avant V6 TDI with 272cv is the best option for the next 10 years.... And it's much better than that car, in terms of quality Audi is now closer to seat.
It won’t last that long, especially crappy V6 TDI
The v6 tdi is great
@@angmid9210 R6 from BMW is way better and will last a lot longer
@@spk8989pl great engine but you can’t get it in an Audi. If only modern BMWs didn’t look so awful!
My 2019 sq5 will be the last Audi for me unfortunately.
not as sexy as the cls shooting brake
@@constructionbootgazer"way too fancy with lights" they always have been. First brand to adopt the use of LED & matrix headlights
@@kevc.2958discontinued plastic car
@@Johnny91832 LED DRL was an upgrade from most cars using halogen at the time. The matrix laser was again an upgrade from the xenon HID that the previous generations had been using. These new lights are not that. I feel like they are a tacky addition, especially the fact that they give you choices to change them from the infotainment. Am I mad at the headlights? No. Im mad at Audi for focusing their efforts on something so mundane and useless and could have used the design budget for something more significant. I personally don’t think the bar taillights are an improvement over the separated ones from previous models.
This A5 definitely stepped into a new segment. A segment of cars with poor ergonomics and cheap sensor controls.
Plastic fantastic
I'd love to see more high-quality fabric or fabric-like materials being used. I know it's not animal-free, but something like the wool blend on Volvos would be amazing. Some high-quality fabric couches can cost upwards of €4000 ($4300), so they can definitely go quite premium. I would have to see what this Audi's fabric feels like, but it doesn't look the most premium from the camera. Leather/leatherette is so underrated. Most uncomfortable and bum-burning material ever made.
21:00 you are 100% correct regarding the climate controls. In your own Audi, it's so much more user friendly
The interiors on these new Audis look so much like the new GM interiors, like the ones in the new Chevrolet Traverse and upcoming new Suburban.
Very cheap imo.
True ag
I would like to do some cost cutting when it comes to screens and other similar stuff rather than reliability.
I own the previous model A4 Avant B9 2020 and I prefer the exterior and interior design of my car
I liked the look of the previous A5 model(s) much better. I'm not a fan of these overly aggressive fronts, especially not for a car like this.
@@DevilHorstwell, looks are subjective. I liked the previous A5 but I love this one even more
@@jonathanlupalezwi5951 Can't argue with that.
I have three questions,
1) Will there be A5 Allroad version available in future?
2) Do we have Sunroof option or is it just available with glass ceiling?
3) What does it look like when the passenger screen is not there?
1) No
2) Fixed glass roof as an option with electrochrome shade
3) A large high-gloss black decor element
Loving the German / English explanations both Thomas and Leah are great presenters. Really enjoy these videos 🙏👌👏
The outgoing A5 is a beautiful car.. new Audis’s have more plastic, less button controls and higher prices... when will they listen to customers ...
Visually interior looks much more cheaper than in previous generation. Where is aluminium or wood inside? Just dark plastic everywhere. Now it looks absolutely equal to any cupra. Of course maybe built quality is better but still…very disappointed:(
I'm not a big fan of Audi...
But they know how to make really good break, i found it really nice
If you opt-out passenger screen, you're left with big piano black slab. Very lazy design move.
At least it's on their configurator. It could be just a render.
thats seems like it
Can Audi Exclusive not allow a wood trim piece to replace that slab?
@@SpectralBloo Maybe. I hope so, otherwise I'd be stuck with something that reminds me all the time I didn't get the screen.
I like it. It looks great in white. The S version is probably a better buy, since they are both very expensive anyway.

Will there be an allroad version?
+1 For the grandpa design! 😁 I don't know if it still exists, but some cars at their lower trim levels had the pieces around the windows black, while the higher more luxurious trim levels had it in chrome. I mean, come on, more chrome = more luxury! 😛
Chinese will dominate the EU market, 85k for this no way. Germany mobility industry is going down
As the exterior design of some Audi models is now also questionable, I find the A5 quite attractive.
I currently drive the 2019 A5 Sportback and the built quality inside and out is second to none, pretty much perfect ✨
100.000km just one small repair, no squeaking, no rattling, just silence in the cabin.
Materials are very high quality, real Aluminium Inlays, real leather, and soft touch everywhere 🤍
What's the strategy here with making it worse than before?
I don't get it @audi 🥺😢
I think this is the only segment where the german trio still has good looking cars, i mean Audi usually has good cars in all segments looks wise but bmw and merc been messin up lately
what is the ground clearance for the allroad A5 combi? beautiful car from outside with an ugly interior screen 😢
There has never been felt in the door pockets in any of this segment or higher. Dunno what you’re talking about.
@@JohnGuidetti751 Volvo XC60 and I presume V60 have felted doors. And bigger boot.

"Avant" is the official name by Audi for their estate cars.
Amazing review! Can’t wait for the sq5 review 👍🏻
It has the same power has the S5, but less taxes and a very good engine the A888.😏
Interiors hate touch screen, for simple things like AC.
Central console, whay don’t do they do in aluminum or steel, it’s way better.
And I agree, cars in general this days are extremely expensive! 😒
콕핏이 bmw만큼 복잡해졌네요.. 전세대도 간편하지않았지만 이번세대는 모든것이 터치버튼.. 고장이난다면 여러모로 힘들것같네요.
Great video - interesting car.
Great review! What about the V6 diesel ? No one is mentioning that ?!! Will it be available later on ?
Same question here. No mention whatsoever
The combi looks pretty good. Nothing ugly here unlike BMW.
Nice exterior but awful interior. You're great as always Thomas!

I wasn't sure initially with some designs but actually they're really looking nice, and I've never had an Avant but I could go for the S5 Avant this time.

How do normal people afford to buy this? I earn a very decent salary for a month but i still cant imagine paying EMI for this, hence my question.
Audi is a very good brand, and every car I own is an Audi
That's a good looking car. I'm tempted.
Ah, just seen the climate controls. I'm no longer tempted.

This material interior is looking like taken from new Skoda Octavia / Superb. I was waiting for this car, but after Your videos I'm more confused than convinced that I want to buy it.
PS.
According to online photos of version without 3rd screen - space for screen looks terible.
Guys, in your opinion should I take this or the c class ?? I need to buy a new car but I really dont know what to choose
You should really test both cars.
hi Thomas, so far we haven't seen the New A5 without the second screen. what about the other trim level?
Useful review, but not a car format I like.
The mirror adjustment unit looks and feels flimsy. The door handles are too unconventional. The interior is overloaded with screens and displays... It was as if the car had lost its face, but had not acquired a new one.
This new television size dashboard screen are actually ugly and ruin the luxury feel off modern cars. It has no design quality
I lost it at CAPACITIVE DOOR HANDLES!
What in the ux hell is this?!
But it doesn't seem to deliver
that. Well atleast you can drive now bigger size Wheels/Tires on a Midclass Sedan/Wagon (245/40/19).
Thomas and Lea - the TRUE 'German Kombi' Great job guys...
How about the rear legroom comparision to old A4 avant?
I hate this new interior they been using in all their new cars
Still waiting the most handsome Thomas to review the new launch Macan 4 and Macan ~~ (not the old video)
I was waiting for reviews to decide if I am going to get S5 as my new daily driver. Now I don't know what to get anymore. This interior is a deal breaker.
So does it have Torsen 60:40 Or is it Halidex FWD?
You know they share stuff with other brands within the VW group so why they don’t share Skoda buttons and climate control .
Great to maintain v6 in the S (I’m looking at you Mercedes with the I4) and to be honest with the exhaust
But interior is horrid.
