I'm guessing the frames are uncapped . To allow the Xbox Series and PS5 improve performance on their consoles . Specially the XSS version . Which uses the Xbox One S version as base .
Its kind of bold of them to stay at 1080 and focus on image quality and frame rate, I like it.. hopefully they can fix up those visual issues on the x though
What I don't get is why Toy in the Box games (Spyro Trilogy and Crash 4) looks weirdly smooth but kinda blurry somehow. It feels like it runs at a higher framerate but it doesnt really feel right. I'd really love if someone could explain this to me.
I can't believe people actually like motion blur in games it's insane. They only started to put it in games to hide flat panel sample and hold blur. On a crt or low persistence display you absolutely don't need motion blur.
60fps mode with paired back graphics should have been an option on base PS4 and Xbox one. They have the same CPU so they can deliver those 60 frames cpu side. Juste loose effects and/or rez until the gpu hold 60 too...
Disagree about the music. Not all of it is outstanding, but I'm near the end and there have definitely been some catchy standouts (Off Beat and Tranquility Falls come to mind), and it makes good use of a number of leitmotifs from the original trilogy in pretty cool ways. Also, Crash has always had a fairly distinctive sound, and considering this is trying to be a true sequel to those old games, it does make sense that they chose to continue that.
Thats maybe due to piracy, some developers and publishers saturate sales on consoles first and then release on pc 6 to 12 months later, the n sane trilogy got cracked on the first day when released on pc, and please i am not saying all pc gamers pirate games
This is super simple. It is far easier for them to develop a stable build for a stabel hardware platform then it is to make a stable build for a near infinite variety of hardware and software. For some reason this myth about PC being easier to develop for is still pervasive (this was only true for earlier consoles and the most famous being PS3... but after that generation consoles became far easier to develop for overall since it is static).
Shame that they didn't fix the slide jump and tawna's double jump animation from the demo. Tawna's double looks weird with her proportions and the slide jump isn't as useful as it was in previous games
Is it just me or does anybody else have a problem with inverting the camera on xbox one x? Although inverted, when a new level starts it‘s not working anymore...i really hope they fix this.

Crash Bandicoot is one of the first games I played on PS1 and it was so freaking hard. I never got very far in that game. This looks great. Good animations and art style. I'll probably play it on series x so hopefully there's a next-gen patch.
"If you're a heathen. "
This channel is the best.
Motion blur is the worst. Makes everything look like smeared vaseline. Don't try taking screenshots with motion blur on.
@@XFactor1111 Uncharted 4 at a standstill: one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen.
Uncharged 4 at even the slowest possible camera rotation: who smeared all this vaseline all over my TV, I can't see anything anymore! 🤬
I'm just glad they actually made it looks like a technically improved version of the old games visual style rather than giving us some weird 3D abominations like some cracks at this that happened in the late 2000s.
I really hope there is an update for the XSX for increased resolution. Since the 1X almost hits a consistent 60 already it should be very easy to provide an enhancement update for 1440 to 4k with a locked 60. If that happens I will definitely pick this game up for the XSX. If not I'll wait for a PC version.
How is this channel not over 1 million subs. Great video as always.
I think we'll get a PC, Switch and next gen PS and Xbox releases in an year like Spyro did.
100%.
The intermittent reflections of the that skull monster truck thing in the pools of water is really, really good.
EDIT: The animation and art style are really exceptional. Reminds me of a Rare game.
It should be really be "OMEN is proudly sponsored by Digital Foundry"
Hoping for native 4k 60fps on next-gen.
absolutely hands down the best crash bandicoot ever 9.5/10 just buy its so polished and the stressful levels with that puzzle feel good just the designs and way they flow very fluid. Well done Toys for Bob/Activision
back to my childhood session
The PS4 Professional, yeah
Just a tip: whenever I play 30fps games on my X, I just turn on frame interpolation on my tv effectively making all games look smooth like they're running at 60.
Been doing that since the PS3 days on my Bravia via motion flow
Doesn't it add a bunch of delay though?
This again shows how "heavy" Unreal Engine is on current-gen consoles. A bit like Tekken 7: 1080p on enhanced consoles, which feels ridiculous, but there we are. I'm glad for the 60 fps at least. I think this also shows a developer that doesn't really care about current-gen machines, especially base consoles when optimizing their game. I'm sure that with more effort much more could have been done on Xbox One S and base PS4.
they didn't care about xbox one x, why they didn't turn ambient occlusion on? that's why I don't like series s, developers are lazy af
@@DarkP1 What does the Series S have to do with it? And it's only on one game, and it's Activision.
@@Sceptonic look xbox one and xbox one x, many games are just higher resolution and forget to polish the game, they say this time the focus is series x, but I doubt developers are going always to honor it
Super Mario Odyssey is still putting other platformers to shame. Nintendo are the masters of doing more with less.
Tekken 720p
When is Halo 3 ODST getting a review?
Yes please
2009? :P
Pedro Rodrigues 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Audi has been declared world heavyweight champion of Bubsy. Love it.
I really dont understand why they chose to not implement HDR for this game
I’d absolutely love it if they made a new ray man
Can't imagine playing on base PS4 or Xbox. Look forward to this Platinum.
This is the first time I've even heard of Bubsy.
Why do devs uncap the FPS on base consoles? There's literally NO advantage to doing this
Me: oh boy crash 4 is out, I wonder what the framerate is like?
DF: look at the tangible feel of this per Pixel motion blur. The game is very interactive and interesting...
I still cant use to the fact that you dont lose apples when you spin around them

LETS GET TO 1 MILLION DF FANS! THEY ARE SO CLOSE!!!

the weird graphical lower resolution textures is either the devs are faving Sony's consoles over Microsoft's ( something to do with the original trilogy being a Playstation exclusive ) or the XBONEX is using the Base XBONE texture, or simply they lower the graphics this way to keep that solid 60FPS.
“You can disable motion blur if you’re a heathen”
This guy’s speaking my language 😄
Heathen here, motion blur is disgusting and really doesn't make sense in video games. I get that it's simulating movement but it really doesn't make sense in a lot of video game genres. Just seems like you're playing to literally not look at the textures designed by the designers.
MuscleSenpai Motion blur makes sense with games running at 30fps, but I definitely turn it off for 60fps (or higher) games.
Does this make me half heathen?
@@AddieB55 agreed. Motion blur is like JPEG artifacts to me.
@@theryan519 I think it's the exact opposite, the higher the frame rate, the more welcome motion blur is. At 30fps the frame time is so long that the blur stays around forever, but with 120/144fps it's more tasteful.
There should be a "Low" Graphics option that would be automatically be enabled for the Base Consoles.
If you don't want to waste your time and just want to know how each console performs and etc:
Performance: 7:38
And all consoles display the game at 1080p (including Xbox One X) and they use Dynamic Resolution as well
I absolutely love it when John says "PS4 Professional"
Your position on Bubsy is that of a crazy person.
I personally love the bouncy personality of the crash games' music and I'm glad to hear it's back :)
Nearly 1 Mill subs guys :)

The circle that shows were you will land is by far the best feature they could have added lol
Sucks we can’t toggle per object motion blur only and turn off camera motion blur, it’s smeary on the horizontal rail grinding sections, at least on my 50 inch TV.
Thankfully while I'm a big Crash fan I wasn't in a rush to get this right away so I'll wait until next gen to pick this up. I don't have a Pro or an X and I'm not playing Crash with such an unstable framerate. 100% with you John, I don't understand why there isn't a 30fps cap option for base consoles. X using the base Xbox One settings for shadows and textures is also disappointing, hope they patch that. Great video as always.
Here to see if the PS4 version performes the same as the PS5 version played on a PS5
Perhaps because of my age (38), Bubsy is obviously the superior character to Crash. But I will buy this game though.
Great video John!
Can't wait for my PS5 to arrive and replay this at solid 60 FPS
What I don't get is why Toy in the Box games (Spyro Trilogy and Crash 4) looks weirdly smooth but kinda blurry somehow. It feels like it runs at a higher framerate but it doesnt really feel right.
I'd really love if someone could explain this to me.
The surprise winner here is Bubsy. Crash doesn't have a heavyweight champion does he? The choice is clear.
I have a base Ps4 so I'll wait until the PS5 comes out, or they patch a 30fps lock.
"Ring the bell, support the Bubster." This is as close as I've ever gotten to allowing notifications on youtube.
I can't believe people actually like motion blur in games it's insane. They only started to put it in games to hide flat panel sample and hold blur. On a crt or low persistence display you absolutely don't need motion blur.
unfortunately a nice crt isnt easy to come by these days
Crash 4 is such a fun game 🙌👏😃
Since I only own a PlayStation 4 Amateur and a Gaming PC I'll just wait a year for the PC release. There IS going to be a PC release, right?
I almost died from a fatal OCD ATTACK at the number of missed crates in this gameplay. Thank god my doctor was on hand...
60fps mode with paired back graphics should have been an option on base PS4 and Xbox one.
They have the same CPU so they can deliver those 60 frames cpu side. Juste loose effects and/or rez until the gpu hold 60 too...
Crash 4 is a solid game like its predecessors! The level design is similar to the past Crash games but the hub is liken to that from Crash 1.
I played the nsane trilogy on a small modest gaming PC build at a sold 60fps via the TV with a 360 controller ! that was the best result methinks
I bought it yesterday but I have an og xbox one. I have an x on pre-order. Should I just wait to play this on the series x ?
I'm playing on ps4 base but I'll just replay on next gen xbox. As long as it gets a visual upgrade to 4k
thanx for the review :) great as always .. i love the music though :)
Very weird that these games aren’t released on PC day 1.
Would love a lower resolution 60fps mode on base PS4 and xbone.
