Really cool to see all the SSP kits at last NHRL, I really loved the one that (i think) was a SSP kit but instead just mounted a giant FU vert to the front. Incredibly cool product and it's amazing to see it proliferate this well yet people are using it more as a base to make their own instead of just the d2 kits that were thrown mostly unmodified into competitions.

Yeah I was pleased to see all of them as well! Emotional Dream is technically not a kit but rather designed and built from scratch using a lot of Just 'Cuz products and SSP CAD as a base for it. But it's using the 107:1 gearmotors instead of 23:1 that the normal kits use so it's really slow by comparison.
Kili, Jade Komodo, Tomato Soup are all SSP's and maybe there was another I am forgetting as well.

Hey there Seth, been wanting to get into the antweight and beetleweight bots since I started watching your vids more.
Just a question for ya though, have you ever encountered a vertical drum bot before in your time as a bot builder? I was thinking about the dynamics of the gyro forces on vertical spinners vs horizontal drum and bar spinners. I thought about how the forces of the vertical spinners always seems to be a detriment to the maneuverability of the bots that use them, but make up for it of course with their versatility and effectiveness.
Do you know of anyone that's ever used a vertical drum in any weight class before, not just beetlewieght/antweight?
I know you've said not to start with spinners when getting into the hobby, but this layout has really got my mind going and I would love to design one in the future.
    Thanks!

I have fought a ton of drum spinners. They are one of the most common Beetleweight bots. I've been competing since 2018 in many weight classes, even with Bloodsport at Battlebots where we fought Copperhead and Minotaur - losing to both unfortunately. Division fought Wasp back in 2019 or 2020 and I have fought a number of beater bars as well with SSP.
Just look at any NHRL stream and you'll learn a lot about the effectiveness of drum spinners.

@@JustCuzRobotics I might not have described it right, I know of the drum spinners that the axis they spin around is parallel to the frame of the bot and the drive wheels.
What I'm thinking of is rotate the axis it spins around 90 degrees so the drum is pointed up, perpendicular to the frame.
Basically take Malice's "drummette" and extend it to the full length of a regular drum.
I hope I'm describing it well enough so you understand, sorry for not getting my idea across precisely enough.

Ah I see what you mean now. I was confused by the question.
There is no point to making any horizontal spinner super tall in the Z direction. Most robots you fight are very short so it would just add weight and recude your weapon's reach dramatically. I can't think of a good reason to take a traditional wide drum and just rotate it 90 degrees. Making a malice style drumette seems to be a better option if yoy want to go with a fairly small diameter horizontal. I don't really know what the main motivation for that style is but it works for Malice.
I think with horizontal spinners one of the major advantages is reach. You can usually hit a vertical or drum spinner's weapon support and do a lot of damage to their weapon before they can hit anything except your weapon.
