    As an ultra-/ endurance rider, bikes like this one are a dream! maintenance-free, built to last, carry plenty of gears, tent, nutrition and hydration.
    AFAIR chain drivetrain efficiency drops below belt efficiency after about 1000km, so belt is the way to go for my future bikes.

    What a great build and I love the fact that it's a Rohloff rear hub, I've had mine since 2010 or so and it still runs like a charm (although it's on an old modified steel frame with all other things crappy on it).
    Sad to see that you didn't build the wheels, would have been neat with a rear hub that was just aluminium and maybe a DT Swiss or Chris King front hub.
    I'd like to see a take on a retro build with a Sturmey Archer DuoMatic hub like some old bikes had.
    Edit: Just googled and found out they're called kick shift now, not DuoMatic like back in the day.

    • @roadbikechannel
      @roadbikechannel  Год назад +2

      The shifters must be modified in a way that removes the indexing and than it is shifting like in Formula 1: Push the right lever and you shift into a lighter gear, push the left shifter and you shift in a harder gear. Or the other way around, it is your decision.The Rohbox replaces the original shiftbox of the Speedhub with External Gear Mech.

    Love this build. Always curious about parts spec and weights. I like the parts list with weights. Titanium is pretty cool. But I'm not sure what he's grinning about when it puts the bike on the scale: 10.81gr (23.8lbs)? My Niner RLT 9 Steel Force eTap AXS 1x 12sp w/ carbon fork, carbon crank, carbon wheel set, carbon handlebar, etc. is 9.16gr (20.25lbs). I think for ride quality and weight saving he would be better off with a carbon fork. The Rohloff gearbox is cool and fairly light relatively speaking. All together a cool build.

    • @roadbikechannel
      @roadbikechannel  Год назад +2

      yes, a carbon fork would safe quite a lot, but the titanium one here is 3d printed and build to handle a LOT of weight. Same goes for the drivetrain, yours doesn't need any cables at all (easily 300g), cranks another 300g, but if you run out of juice you might get a problem 😉 This is a really specific bike for maintenance free commuting but also long distance travelling which can carry a lot luggage.

    • @nlanni
      @nlanni Год назад +1

      @@roadbikechannel AXS battery life is a consideration. The batteries are 25gr each and I've carried at least 1 extra battery, even though I've yet to need a swap. The charger is ultra light as well and carry that, too. I'm beginning to confident I can leave those 23 items at home for most rides. There is a question, at least in my mind, about the suitability of a carbon fiber fork for your application. On the other hand I'm curious about the long term durability of 3d printed parts in such applications. Your build is a showpiece, but I think external cable routing are better suited for touring. It was torture watching the installer fit all those cables into the handlebar, stem, head tube and finally the down tube. Certainly not something you want to deal with out on the road touring. As mentioned, it's a beautiful build. Thanks and keep it up.

      Yes, it may be cheaper and sometimes lighter, but it's like comparing apples and oranges. Sauvage is building classic titan bikes with some hydro formed parts, whereas the Falkenjagd frame is 3d printed with forged dropouts, 3d printed fork and stem. Most of weight is a result of the heavy Rohloff hub and the gates cranks. It's heavier but you have basically no maintenance under any condition for the whole drivetrain. yeah, with titanium you gotta know what your doing. the questionable quality accusation might be questionable 😉

    2066 grams? Holy shit that thing is a boat anchor. 825 gram fork? That fork is heavier than many full carbon frames

      but is pretty much maintenance free, build to last and carry 150kg (rider + bags) 😲

      @@roadbikechannel given most riders are below 100kg, 50kg only for the rear rack is a bit of overkill. It'd be nicer to spread out the load with more mounting points. great bike nonetheless!

      well now I see there is a front wheel mounting point, it now makes more sense 👍 bottles are low and a horizontal frame bag can be easily fit in 😌

    I turned it off when I noticed the pressfit

      generally pressfit only becomes a problem when the frames bottom brakcet area is out of alignment (meaning the left side of the bottom bracket is offset to the right) or not perfectly round - which is often the case on pure carbon frames that are are manufactured with too high tollerances. this should not be a problem here and generaly is also not a problem on aluminium or steel frame because they use a pre-machined cylinder in this area.

      @@Digi20 true, but in this price and quality class, I would expect something proven, without technologies that large companies are withdrawing from, technologies with a bad reputation. What's more, people who buy Rohloff expect reliability when traveling to the other end of the world. Personally, I gave up many interesting bikes just because of the pressfit.

      @@adampieskiewiczto press fit something is a very proven and widely used technology. In fact, the bearing cups in your threaded BB most probably will also be pressfit into it. A pressfit BB really just makes problems when the frame quality is not up to standards, which sadly is often true even on very expensive frames. And that you can't change it with a simple spanner and need at least 2 tools plus a hammer, so no roadside fixing. That's true. But you also can't service your rohloff hub roadside and have to trust in its quality. by the way there are adapters for pressfit to threaded bsa - depending on your your frame and crank you might find one :) than it's only a one time job to fit it in and everytime you want to get the BB out its easy peasy spanner action
