I remember this episode from cringing over Caroline's leg and that knife in the fire; Mary & Laura crying outside; Rev. Alden stunned, holding Carrie sleeping and Charles praying at the bedside.
If you ever get a 'feeling' that something's not right in a predictable situation or someone you know isn't accounted for when you know them so well---check it out for yourself. Worse case, you've wasted time. Best, you may save a life. Our instincts are there for a reason.

I guess this tale demonstrated how others sins (and our own) affect us, mom's pride in wanting to carry lamp got her leg cut, doctor's fear of wagon not holding up/desire of comfort delayed his care for mom, mom's fear of man locking doors so reverend couldnt get in, neighbor taking advantage of their lost cow and keeping it to steal milk, further prevented help arriving, but regardless of what others do if we have faith in the Lord He shall deliver us. Jolly good show.

@Blessed2BeeAlive once I almost lost my foot to a really bad infection because my foot was stabbed with a knife and I went to the doctor and he said to soak it in as hot of water as I could stand with epson salts. If I would have had ice on it instead of heat for much longer I would have had to get my foot amputated. I was so close and so lucky....

Ah yes, the amazing power of the lord.she was very brave even when that flu got real bad also this shows a true amount of:courage,faith,hope and love even when times are tough the ingalls always try their hardest to live through themthis episode had lots of suspence and action overall i would give it 3 and a half stars
although their house looked diffrent in the movie this still was beautiful and i would indeed recommend this to anyone. -FALLIS REVIEWS

Watched this episode again after more than 40 years. As much as I absolutely loved LHOTP, this show was full of mistakes . Caroline puts her pies out to cool but then it rains heavily, didn't they get soaked in the rain? And cutting off the leg because the Bible tells you to? Are they referring to the Old Testament? Because if they are, they'd know that pork, ham and bacon was forbidden. As God fearing Christians, the Ingalls still ate this filthy animal. Also, why did the church sing the same old hymn every Sunday? Why do we never see the same kids in the school again? They have grown pubescent children learning with nursery aged kids, kids go off into the forest by themselves, there's no sense of danger, kids will mix with adults without a sense of fear or abuse???

just think what would have happened if charles had listened to the reverand and not gone. reverend aldon annoyed me in this episode.
what a beautiful sight though caroline waking up and seeing her beloved family smiling at her!
