It's important to be political giving in to whatever Tyra addresses to you. Like, stand for something, whatever it is, even if you hate it, even if makes you want to vomit.
I get that they were giving each of those views a voice, what's the political nobility at arbitrarily giving it to those ladies like that???
I was watching cycle 21 and she eliminated one of the final 3 before the runway and he started crying. She goes “the other day I was also canceled right before a runway and I still walk out with a smile on my face”
Tyra's recent tone deaf tweet made her the new Gwyneth Paltrow, except I really wouldn't be surprised if she got off on flaunting her wealth in response to all the people dragging her online

this is the life of everyone with a chronic illness. It SUCKS when people compare their short term illness that made them stay home and binge watch antm and have to eat saltines for a week to chronic, often debilitating illness that completely consumes people's lives. 😢 it's so disrespectful.

When I was 13 I had to spend time in a residential facility but the closest one was for substance abuse so that’s where I went. I witnessed many young girls go through that and I can’t believe how she handled herself. People can’t get out of bed for days, they puke constantly…very strong girl

@@curiositypiqued6573 because it was an inpatient residential facility. We were all there at least 12 weeks and it wasn’t mixed boys and girls. I’m a girl, so I was in the girls unit. There definitely were boys, there were just down the hall in a different unit

They treat the models like they aren't people on this show...They have no choices, autonomy, and even the slightest bit of disagreeing from them, they are sent home. If this type of thing is programmed in their head in regards to the modeling industry, they might put themselves in danger in the future. Oh...Tyra....
I'd say I like the aspect of a modeling show, but I crave professionalism and a realistic view of it. Like I wanna see something, that isn't clown behavior on behalf of Tyra and isn't blatantly offensive especially in terms of concepts. I agree with you fully though.
@@aestheticcat8976 Naomi's The Face, Yolanda Hadid's Make Me a Model, Tyson Beckford's Make Me a Supermodel, and NTM in other countries actually created a professional atmosphere and gave the contestants realistic photoshoots they can use in their portfolio even if they lose.

This whole idea was stupid. The girls images/reputation matter. If a client sees the model did a pro fur shoot, it’s likely the client is going to assume she auditioned for the shoot, consented to it, and it likely represents her beliefs. However, the client is staunch anti fur and will decide not to have her work for them because they feel like they couldn’t get along. Also, models represent the brand or product they’re modeling for. Seems contradictory if a model becomes a campaign person for an anti fur campaign but has photo shoots for pro fur. The client will likely not hire someone who has done pro fur shoots for a vegan photo shoot because they’ll assume the model doesn’t fit the image of their goal. It’s better career wise, especially starting out, to avoid politics or anything that will cause controversy. No point in closing doors of opportunities for one stupid photo shoot.
I was wondering about this very issue. Pictures do not speak 1000 words. They speak no words and the viewer creates the story. And of course these pictures will not be lost to history.
I wouldn't take it that far, I would say someone wouldn't book them because the pictures don't showcase the models in applicable scenarios because of how DUMB THESE PHOTOSHOOTS ARE
My biggest peeve about tyra was that she would always preach about how toxic the industry can be if you don't give into the demands of the photographer or designer but proceeds to continue that by making them go these awful experiences.
She doesn't hold her own team accountable for their behavior
Absolutely. As much as I despise Tyra she was at the peak of her celebrity and influence at the time and could have used it to really make changes in the modeling word but instead chose to exploit these girls and ridicule them.

oh yes 100% did you also notice that the people they put in the top had the least amount of the blurring effect? Jaslene (idk how to spell her name) barely had any done while the bottom girls had so much editing you couldn't even see the background
My mom has this theory that they pick who they want to win at the beginning of the season based on what the customer (I.e the modeling agency) is looking for. And all the challenges and photo shoots are meant specifically for them.
You can also tell that they sometimes pick the worst pics for judging instead of the best ones for some people

Yeah I'm a designer too and the blur effect was all over the place in it's intensity (WHY WAS FELECIA'S PHOTO IN A WHITE VORTEX?!) yet not for the winner of the shoot. It honestly looks purposeful as even a amateur wouldn't single out 1 photo to lessen the effect if they thought all needed a blur to begin with regardless of loss of detail.

It's awful. It's impossible to summarize political positions into a single photo, so of course it's going to become stereotypes if you want put a complex topic into a single frame. It sounds stupid even just thinking about it, I wonder how in hells name it got beyond paper!
It's just like their biracial/bicultural/binational (or whatever they called it) photoshoot, you can't put a single culture into a picture frame, that's why there is such a thing as cultural festivals, much less two! The black face just adds to the shittiness of it.

@@Kairos_Akuma that is what I was thinking. What also gets me is that every time she asked how to portray the theme no one could give her an answer. Anti-fur is very passionate so she would probably have to look angry and be more physical, but then it wouldn't say "high fashion" like they wanted. So i feel it was one of the more damned if you damned if you don't themes of the day.

In this panel, I know they told Diana she had dead eyes, and her eyes are blue, it’s rare when they talk about models with blue eyes that have dead eyes, only ones I really remember that had blue eyes but went dead were Kathy (C6 Bald shoot), Diana (C8 Political shoot), Kara (C13 Scarf shoot), and Phil (C20 Nails Shoot)

And this might be an odd point but they gave the girl with the slightly broader face the suit, and one that I think made her seem more masculine by broadening the shoulders and stuff, and thus further emphasising that there must be a 'man' in the relationship.
(I'm not saying she looks masculine, just that the suit wasn't the best on her)

I am pro-life because: I believe in life from the moment of conception and therefore everyone’s equal right to live. But I also try to see the reasons why abortions happen. Several studies have been done on why and a majority of women have abortions due to financial situations or pressure from people around them. I want to see a future where we have eliminated all such elements for (pregnant) women, it is never the pregnancy itself that is the problem but the events around it. I believe that we as a society should focus on long-term solutions for women instead of abortions as a simple solution.

@Nicky Iannis It doesn't make sense for her to be acting like a prisoner since she's not dressed like one and wouldn't make any sense at all for her to model like a prisoner either. She's pro-life sentence so she should have had Jaslene's set or lethal injection set and handcuffing herself there to prevent the death penalty from happening or something along those lines.

What I have learned from the few ANTM that I have seen, is that apparently the problems caused by a bad photographer or the editing team are actually the model's fault 🙄

I was thinking the exact same thing watching this. Its really clear that target demographic was pre-teens because the concepts are pretty immature and basic. When I was young I thought these types of photoshoots were revolutionary because I didn't have a proper understanding of the issues surrounding them.

Something that I didn't like, is that when Kathleen asked what it was supposed to mean for Anti-Fur, no one helped her understand it so that she could portray the emotion that was wanted of her.
It's almost like they wanted the young lady to fail. It would be different if she never said anything, but she even asked in hair and makeup.

They make it sound like Tyra is the biggest supermodel in the whole world, but I have never seen her in a magazine or her modeling in general. The only places I’ve seen her is in this show or the Tyra show lol.
You must be just a little bit too young to remember her in: music videos, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Super Bowl commercial, etc..
She was actually a pretty big deal and it was "her show" in a way. However, looking back i definitely don't look up to her like I did when I was watching as a kid.

Some fake meat is bad, yes, but not all. Beyond burger meat is one that is less terrible for you. Theres also tofu & other soy based protein which is a perfectly good. Then tons of grains + beans can create full proteins that can replace meat proteins. You just have to be careful.
Obviously eating morning star fake meat for every meal is terrible for you, but that goes without saying for ALL processed frozen food, not just fake meat. Just eat whole foods & you're golden.

I think it was the aim. It’s more “parodying” the issue than actually promoting it. They always say “have fun with it”, you don’t go speak on animal cruelty or deal penalty with the thought of “having fun with it”.
To be fair I’m not even hating the concept. Doing the parodied exaggerated shot of a lot of issue to me is fine, though I haven’t finished the vid yet.

What on earth was this photo shoot. It’s criminalizing every belief it’s representing. There are obvious biases and it’s super messed up. These models deserve a choice in the matter.

I feel so bad for Kathleen!! She tried so hard and had one of the most difficult concepts too. She asked and about it and they just... didn't seem to help her that much? And they completely set her up with the fur question. Ugh.

The main message to the models in ANTM was compromise yourself at any cost for the picture. Honestly they were hoping to trigger someones personal trauma and turn it into drama. That was the concept.

Jael was an absolute angel. She legit changed lives. She took her past, overcame it, then used that experience to change the lives of others. It kinda hit me in that intro when Mr. Jay said to the 13 ladies that they could be someone’s inspiration and role model. Jael was without a doubt a role model to a lot of the women we knew. Yet she was incredibly humble, kind, and welcoming to any new comers in our circle. She touched a lot of lives, both close to home and through the screen.
And for the record, Jael passed away sober. She had multiple years of sobriety when she passed away.

This show makes me so GRATEFUL for Instagram. If Instagram didn't exist this show would still be relevant and more aspiring models will be subjected to the torture that is ANTM. I remember watching this show as a preteen like 12-13 and even then I was confused with the photoshoots and challenges these girls/guys were forced to do because I've never seen Victoria's Secret, Project Runaway, Vera Wang, and other fashion designers/shows/stores do THIS for their clothing, products, or accessories.
Model: um yeah, that shoot was hard for me since my grandpa passed away the day we did it...

There’s also a power imbalance in the show, I guess. They’re meant to be “inferior” to the judges, who act like some sort of “mentor”? We all know they’re just being mean for no real reason. They can’t really just walk out and I feel bad for them. Walking out would be the same as giving up a chance that they (probably) feel is THE ticket to their desired lifestyle or career path.
RIGHT!?! I feel like your image is everything as a model, and you don't want that attached to anything that could be deemed negative...

As you should. I modeled from 13 - 20 years old and OFTEN said no to things. You should never force yourself to be comfortable if you’re genuinely not. I got offered a 19k contract but walked away because the agency told me to give up my faith, education, family and life for modeling/acting.
I said “no thanks” and put myself through college instead 👌🏼
@@Dhdjksjsnsnsnnsnsna Totally agree. I actually used to go to modeling auditions/do some modeling back in the late 90's /2000's and it felt like this. Like you had to be willing to go along with certain things to try and make it. I was a size 4 back then and I even had a photographer tell me I could still lose at least 5 pounds. I had others try to get me to do nude modeling too, which I refused to do, but there was still pressure. I am glad that now the models have more say than in the past.
When I was younger I was so blinded by the show, thank you Jessica for going through these shoots and showing us the true reality about the industry.

I had the very same thought very "supreme leader" vibes, never noticed how bad this show was it was my favorite, I do however remember even back in the early seasons questioning how fair certain things were, like the Tiffany "I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you, how dare you” all because she didn’t act devastated enough for Tyra’s liking & I heard she said some really nasty stuff about "go back to the ghetto and sleeping on a mattress on the floor with your baby” I never seen it but have heard it said it by others who witnessed it, that it was prolonged and really bad and what we seen was just the tip of the iceberg and if true that’s vile as how she acted was bad enough Tiffany was a single mother struggling and just had a more grown up and maternal attitude and was comforting her friends from the house instead of falling apart, like it’s ok I’m still gonna be ok. To me it was obvious she had seen more of real life and had faced real issues and problems so not winning this although disappointing was not a life or death situation, I thought she showed maturity and a really good heart and how she was attacked because Tyra The Tyrant wasn’t satisfied with Tiffany not being broken by her rejection showed Tyra’s real personality more than any other of her cringe antics, fake fainting and other bad acting all while acting like a childish caricature of herself rather than a role model or motherly figure and groundbreaking super model she sees herself as because that’s all characters she plays and this showed the real woman and actually for the first time made me question her role in the whole Naomi Campbell rivalry and reported bullying and blackballing perpetrated by Naomi and her team. I had always believed the whole Tyra the innocent young girl who looked up to Naomi as a poc who took the industry by storm and was breaking down doors who now had got her own big break and looked up to and excited about working alongside her idol only to be cruelty rejected, bullied and almost robbed of her chance by Naomi seeing Tyra as a threat rather than another woman of color working alongside her and making room for other women beside the previous generation of mostly white, super thin and stereotypical "pretty” women. I now believe the truth is most likely somewhere in the middle, Naomi was far from washed up when Tyra came about and in fact was at a very high point in her career and having started modeling very young most likely was caught up in her own hype as most young people in the entertainment industry who find instant fame so young are and may have had a "mean girl" attitude but I feel it was more of a she wasn’t bothered by Tyra’s presence and Tyra herself being quite vain egged on by her own stage mom who no doubt raised her to be a star (I believe this because of the fact the mom dropped her own hard earned career in a heartbeat to move half way around the world for her 17yo daughter to ensure she stayed on track in her career, I don’t believe a mature adult would do this if not banking on this being the key to financial success) was offended that she didn’t get the response she expected to get and put herself in the victim role, I know none of this to be fact but having watched her reactions to situations like the Tiffany not giving the expected reaction, the way she acted about Kenya’s weight, the constant contradictions of telling the girls to stand for what they believe and then punishing them for doing so like Robin refusing to go naked because of her beliefs despite Tyra herself having never posed fully nude all really bad reactions and treatments of other black woman who looked up to her as their idol and also finding a way to make every situation or problem anyone had about herself I just can’t buy the narrative she has spun for so many years. Although ANTM has been a very successful show for many years and the formate copied worldwide despite its very problematic (and I hate to use that word) past and Tyra being the creator and producer has carved out a legacy of her own and broken down doors in other ways, I just wish she was less contradictory and realized earlier on while living in a glass house not to throw stones and then after throwing the stones hiding your hands and playing victim. I respect her for her accomplishments but not as a a strong woman building up other women like she views herself. I believe I came to this conclusion fairly as I watched as a firm Tyra fan not a critic and was turned off Tyra by her own actions and personality shown on ANTM and her talk show before any of this has come back into the light and had stopped watching the show long before it ended because of this and now seeing it all again I realize even more so how toxic it was and the models most teens or early 20s were used for others gains and tossed away when used up and very few gained much if anything from the show. I’ve just watched the interview with Kenya now and only realized how stunningly beautiful and strong she is and while not bad mouthing Tyra despite various emotional and physical abusive situations the show and those involved placed her in has however confirmed the show had not helped her career and in fact had the opposite effect as agents didn’t want to sign her up despite really liking her look and personality but because of the lack of respect the show held in the industry and even their portfolios they worked so hard for were in reality worthless.
