Chinese PVS 14 clone, digital night vision compared to real deal

- Comparing a current production Chinese digital night vision device that is styled after the PVS-14 to the ITT PVS14/6015 type device.
I would not trust the durability and reliability of this device for situations where its performance is mission critical, but I think it is a good addition to the kit when having a city light tolerant night vision device will enhance mission performance.
Love review videos, that don't actually demonstrate the product working and what it's like.
Totally good use of your time.
Most of what you can see IRL doesn't show up on camera (like the fact that the camera isn't level, like the fact it's magnified, even the color won't show up right on camera) so I'd rather him tell me than spend 5 minutes trying to show me.
and it was 14 minutes. thanks for not letting me waste any more time, this video is crap
A 13 min video and you didn't even show a single TTL shot?
I've got a review video that shows POV if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/f8XHj0I8U7U/видео.html
TTL?
@Arturo Elliott Thats cool bro is she single
What do you expect from someone who covered the serial number? 🤣
@@Dea7hWarran7 damn
This video could be 30sec long, show us both images side by side. Talk about durability. Bam, done~
instead he chose to go into detail and actually explain the differences what a shame
Thank you thought it was just me.
I'm sure you could go find a different video you like better
@@luke-te3sr we did thank you for your guidance we don't know where we would be without you.🤔
@@robzitek5963 thank me? I think you think you are talking to someone else I think.
Lol so basically the Chinese knockoff is not night vision but instead an infrared digital camera... Thanks for this long winded video.
still nightvision just not military grade, you'd be lighting yourself up like a christmas tree with this but for walking around the woods or a simple airsoft situation yea it's more than viable for it.
I purchased one of these for the hell of it. I understand what you're saying about the camera/screen offset, but I believe that may be your particular model. Mine is perfectly square and correct orientation. The biggest issue with this digital night vision device, is that fact the the objective lens is about a 4X magnification. The reason they chose a "zoom" lens rather than a 1X power lens, is because it tricks the user into thinking it is a higher resolution system. The only advantage I can see is daytime use for whatever reason someone would chose. Overall, a couple hundred bucks for something that peaks my interest isn't too bad. Great review by the way.
I was considering picking one up to mess with as well. Do you think it would be possible to change out the magnified lens for a non magnified lens?
I own one, and would also like to know a "hack" video to reduce it to x1
@@chrisalejado1396 Ever find anything?
@@chrisalejado1396 yo did you find it?
@@AAAComicsi know i'm late to the party but are these models snensitive to Sunray damage like the real deal is?
What's the point of this video without comparing the image quality? How can you have both of those side by side and not even try pointing them outside at nighttime for comparison.
Thanks, Good video.Helped me even in 2022. FYI they go for $79 dollars now
where at?
No, that is NOT a "microprocessor" inside the objective lens, it is the 1/4" CMOS sensor, LIKE THE SPEC SHEET SAYS.
CMOS sensor is still a micro processor, lol..
@@Stoney-Lawson, no it isn't. You have no idea WTF you are talking about! They have some similarities to RAM chips, but are nothing like microprocessors!
@@mrnickbig1 tell me more.
@@Stoney-LawsonMore about what. Do you not understand that a processor is nothing like a memory chip or light sensor? OK, a processor, especially a microprocessor, PROCESSES DATA! It reads instruction code from some sort of memory feed, then follows the instructions, reading data from specified memory addresses from RAM, manipulating data by doing math or logical operations, and then sending the results out to RAM again. Microprocessors are complex devices with registers (scratchpad memory that temporarily halds data that is being processed), ROM (Read Only Memory, which is permanent data prereprogrammed memory that contains information on how to follow program instructions, access RAM, and look up tables to simplify and speed up stuff like math. Microprocessors also have Arithmatic Logic Units, which are like calculators, to do math. Data flow is controlled by a controll unit. These are the basic parts, there are more, and some microprocessors have additional features, like integrated graphics processing. In contrast, memory chips and sensos are just arrays of cells that hold data, usually some sort of flip-flop, that can be quickly read from. In memory, data is loaded from a processor via a bus. In imaging chips/sensors, the data is actually created on site by light exposure. In fact, many early CMOS imaging chips WERE actually modified memory chips.
I'm not too interested in the digital night vision, it is slightly better than gen 1 but uses batteries fast. I did recently purchase a gen 1 sight mark ghost hunter 1x24 for 299.00 and I am satisfied with that. It works decent under full moon and if pitch black you can turn on the built in IR and it works really well out to around 100 yards or so. I will someday buy a real pvs 14 when I can afford one as well.
Sightmark makes nvg?
Is there any way to get rid of the 4x magnifier in it
Answered all my questions. Thanks
can usually tell the cheap chinese knock offs by the pins, screws, nuts and specially the finish, cheap plastics are more dark and glossy than rugged dull looking polymer, used on quality equipment.
can you do a image quality comparison
I mean for $200-$250. Meh. Why not? Seems fun to use.
+SteamedRice123 yes- why not- i just ordered this 5X40 Digital Night Vision Telescope , i will give an updathe when i recive it

Jennifer Heart where’s the update?
Where is the video ?
I've been impressed with how well I can see and read objects that are relatively close (rooms distance) in pitch black. I mounted this behind an eotech with the nv button but the reticle is still invisible. It works decently in normal mode with the reticle at lowest brightness but the reticle is out of focus cause the zoom. I still don't know how I feel about this thing. Wanna take it night shooting and I'll have a better idea if I will trade it or keep it. Thus far I've just been creeping around my basement with it.
The Chinese have PVS 14 with IIT, they also sell Russian IIT NVG with better performance and price ratio at 1600FOM.
You know, NVG are to be tested at night, in the dark... xD
If the optic is “Grunt proof” then it is better than nothing. Not everyone can afford $3K for a set of NOD’s.
Try switching it on
Good explanation. Thanks!
Thanks for the review. Going by the thumbs down, looks like a lot of fanboys aren't happy.
Can you replace the guts in it to better mil spec parts like the seals and image intensifier?
no
I was dumb enough to purchase this pile of crap, the first one that came didn't work at all and at least they honored that and I retuned it and was given a new one in return. They also gave me the the rhino helmet mount attachment that never came with the first one. The camera vision is crooked no matter what I do to adjust it on my helmet and is very irritating to say the least, I was also sent the dovetail helmet mount but not the dovetail arm attachment. I am now stuck with this and need help figuring out how to make the best of it. I want to figure out how to find a dovetail arm that will work. I have a large unlit dark forest in my backyard full of homeless people and thieves that I planned to test it on. So we'll see how that goes.
What is it? Is it a clone of PVS14 or regular CCTV circuit night vision that looks like pvs14? Can not both clone and not clone at the same time.
Thank you for this video
Good review brother!
I was just trying this out more last night but had issues with getting the camera behind it to give me any sort of decent video. I would really be interested in your professional opinion on these. My conclusions are mixed, but also consider these devices are 10% the cost of a regular PVS-14. It is not exactly bullshit but the performance is different with its own pros and cons.
I have a set of-14's, but as you mention, they are way out of the range of most people. I would be interested in putting these cheaper one's through the paces to see how they stack up.
How responsive is it to IR illumination? Does the IR illuminator put of a red glow?
How well does it work outdoors? I realise it's only IR but I'm courious about it's efective range in the wild?
Thanks for the video.
Good review. Thank you.
Did you say radio shack holy shit are they still around???
My brother in-law came across the second one but the case says Bushnell and all I can see is a blank white screen when I turn it on and look through it.Any solutions?
I'm just going to have to keep saving for a real analog PVS14. Thanks for the info.. im just going to need to keep stuffing the piggy bank with $ bills
Cool video thank you 😊
I wonder could you advise me please, I have recently bought a GK night vision scope off Red Wolf Airsoft. After less than two months it has stopped working, it has never been used in a game and only taken out occasional to be checked. Red Wolf will not take any responsibility for for either replacement or repair, the unit after import taxes cost me around 300 euro. The unit when it started to cause problems the screen went totally white then stopped working altogether, I tried new batteries and all manor of things, it would be great if you could shed some light on the matter, can they be repaired or whatever, Cheers and thanks.
Can you swap the lense out to make it 1x
Hilarious something they cant copy. And ITT gen 3 tube.
Please approx price of this clone ?
I live in Molalla and run a MARSOC reenactment team, I'll buy at least one of those from you if you have any extra?
The real or the clone?
i bought one online from ebay. it works nice, but it eats the AA batterys like candy. LOL
Not that good at night. I sold mine and got a bushnell night watchmen. Better on batteries and much better on night vision. It is half the price of this china made junk too.
Not for anything really serious, but is a decent training device for those situations where you don't want to be handing out a PVS14 but do want someone to get somewhat familiar with controls and operation of the device. For example, ten grand worth of your PVS 14s getting passed around a boy scout troupe at night...
So are you selling these yourself or are you just reviewing them?
Right now reviewing them. I have not made a final decision on whether or not to sell these. I am now leaning against it. They cost a bit too much as a toy yet are not good enough quality for serious field use. They are kind of OK in the urban environment, but absolutely useless out in a dark woods at night, even when there is a lot of natural moonlight out.
Good information, thank you. Mike
Is there any fish eye?
A little followup review on this Night testing Chinese PVS14 Digital night vision replica
Definitely want an ir laser now though!
So did anyone actually watch the video in its entirety to see how they compare?

How do you think this would work in front of optics?
Uh...no.
What are the chances I could put an image intensifier tube from a gen1 into it?
Zero.
@@CR67 what is stopping it from working? If I emptied the internals from this digital one and put the voltage multiplier and tube in, it still wouldnt work?
@@DevTechGarage I don't believe your physical dimensions for the real deal will fit in the fake housing. The engineering requirements for each design are different even if the outside dimensions are indistinguishable.

id just buy a used gen1 monocular and jb weld a mount for a helmet to it lol.
so which one is the canis latran? left or right?
at the beginning it's on the left, you can tell by the no reflective plastic casing, vs the somewhat relfective casing of the one on the right with the dual battery compartment
HI There,, could you advice me if a PEQ IR laser and illumination would assist this device ?? Many thanks ,, Sam
Yes, but it might be overkill. You would be about as well off with one of the Chinese IR lasers for a fraction of the money unless you plan on eventually upgrading to a regular PVS 14 and want to retain something which you know is going to be more weather resistant. That's the main difference between the PEQ Milspec types and the Chinese ones at this point; the issue of whether or not they are waterproof. I review some in other videos.
thank you for you reply,, I am looking for ways to support this bit of kit ahead of upgrading at some point, So I am under the assumption the more IR I can put out there the better I will be able to see using this product would that be right? Sam
Samw1121
Correct, so the IR illumination lasers used with the modern but first generat5ion equipment will look like white light through this device, but instead of triggering it to switch to color like regular white light would, it will cause a clearer sharper image at greater distances. People also use IR filters on flashlights for that. Ir surveillance cameras can also serve the same purpose, but also realize if you use an IR laser for illumination with this, then you will not be able to use another laser to aim into the same area and discriminate the illumination beam from the aiming dot since they will all appear the same color through the scope.
8digitPDX Actually no. You can see an ir laser if the beam is more intense than the back ground ir. Lasers are grainy, if you want a "clean" light look up the T20 ir conversions on ebay, by far and best value for money illuminators.
I know less about this devise after watching this...
Horrible video...no night shot?????????? seriously??????
so its a cheap option with poor quality assembly, but you drag it out to 13 min to gets the money from youtube
Waste of money. Just save and buy an actual American made pvs 14 from tnvc.
Perfekt video thnx men.

OMG it's not even a clone!! Why is this guy even wasting time doing this video?

Getting mine for $50
Is it real night vision the you can see in the night
Uh, yeah.
got a link were purchase them ..???
They are available from several sellers on Alibaba, or for more money on Amazon.
Can you see IR lights and lazers through the nvg?
Yes
8digitPDX whats the big deal with covering up the serial number as I see people from time to time doing that , is it something thats traceable? to you or something like that,
theman1223
It goes back to a story about a gun collector in Ohio who had pictures of his stuff published in a gun magazine and a jealous cop had theft reports phonied up on the items based on the serial numbers. It took years and lots of lawyer money to get his stuff back. He just showed up to a collector gun show in that town and the cops there started taking his stuff. He was a cop in another jurisdiction and that's what got him some legal help, but it was still a major hassle and he lost his job over it.
8digitPDX But a national gun registry is just "common sense" and anyone who thinks it can lead to the loss of freedom is "crazy"
***** We're all a little crazy in our own way ;)
interesting.
I bought one.
How do you like it?
@@jerrycobbled5167 when it still worked it had a *tiny* square television screen that was pumped up to 2X magnification. So you can forget about walking with it on. You had to constantly adjust the focus because moving you head just a millimeter would blur out your vision. I ordered a replacement after the old one broke........well........more like mysteriously stopped working. The new one worked for 60 seconds bloomed out and stopped working. The old one lasted more like several years before it decided to quit.
It wasn't totally useless. It could see in infared so, it was good for checking my military gear for NIR compliance. It was good for detecting things you can't see with human vision. If you stayed stationary on a fixed location you could still observe things at night without an obnoxious flashlight. I once used it to identify the sheriff helicopter circling my neighborhood. I could see the word sheriff on the tail of the little bubble copter and watched it fly around for like five minutes before it got bord and left.
Get a real PVS-14 for real night vision shit. Get this thing as an expensive toy.
Thanks
6015 is gen2, not even close to omni 6/7 produced by 2004/2008
so canis latrans good or bad?
+xtxjim xtxjim a mixed bag, they are a subsidiary retailer for Guangzhou optics but opened Canis Latrans so they could sell a broader line of merchandise. My biggest problem with them has been quality control. They will honor warranties, but you still have to pay for shipping, usually both ways.
will the canis latrans j arm fit in a milspec head mount?
Not without some modification, it is just a little bit off.
+8digitPDX like just some drimmel work?
+Willie Dee yes, maybe epoxy filler like JB weld in a couple spots.
+8digitPDX okay thanks, or would just replacing their supplied j arm with a milspec j arm?
+Willie Dee personal preference, but I would rather modify their J arm rather than modify a military on but I think the military one does mostly work.
So are there any of these digital NV devices that are worth a darn for serious use? I'd love to get something that can withstand a drop in a puddle or something, but if im spending 2k+, then its going to be FLIR.
GraymanTactics hopefully your looking at atleast 6k+ on a half decent thermal. Also the thermal isn't as modular as the pvs. Most thermals ya not gonna be able to rock over one eye like the pvs NV mono. Only one I know offhand that I can use on my flip down pvs mount is the MTM thermal. An I can flip from night vision or thermal with them two helmet mounted units. Anything else thermal is pretty much some big ass handheld unit or a dedicated weapon thermal scope. So 6k+ for a half decent thermal anything less is a waste an may as well stick to a nice 3K range White Phosphorus tube pvs
There is some new thermal which is way cheaper and actually pretty decent. I have not made a video of it yet, but I got the new generation Seek Thermal camera for IOS and it's pretty good. Someone out there already has a rail mountable version of the android unit with a little viewscreen that's not a bank breaker. Under a grand.
waterfrontboss06 whats wrong with the FLIR Scout II PS32? I dont care about mounting on a rifle or helmet
Can you see aimpoint red dot through this device?
Not very well, but it works pretty well with IR lasers.
How about iron sight?
Owen Bunny
Definitely no, it will not focus the long distance and short distance at the same time.
I understand it's freaking night vision but who would buy a piece of broken equipment knowing it was rejected by the company that made it, their quality control is either really good or we are very desperate.
Late reply, but it's bad information. They're not rejected tubes they are just tubes that don't go through military testing and end up in military units. ITT has separate, in-house testing for commercial units. Many times, commercial spec tubes are actually nicer than military due to them not just meeting the bare minimum specs the US Gov is happy with.
Why don't you kill the bug that's crawling around?
Cuz PETA would have his channel pulled off RUclips and hippies would camp outside his house and protest 🪧. And by protest I mean, sit around smoking weed, beg for money and accomplish nothing
another bla bla bla video
ship top experience. canis latrans I feel good brand for China is it?
Davis Dorothy Harris Matthew Martin Frank
@8digitPDX So I've got three questions about this... First of all, why am I finding 250+ USD pairs of these, and then finding 150 USD pairs on the same website? Second, one website that was selling this said that this was metal; Is that a lie, or is part of this device metal? Third and most important, is this compatible with a Rhino mount? I don't plan on mounting this to my airsoft rifle at all, but if it won't go on my helmet either, then there's no point in buying one.
Either way, thanks alot for the review. It was much more informative than all the other reviews I've had to sit through.
Edit: Apparently Canis Latrans sells their own Rhino mount. Assuming the NVG isn't compatible with a standard issue Rhino mount, would this knock-off be something to consider?
Thistle may have changed specs for their housing but from what I gather the internals are all the same, and even the real deal use a polymer housing.
8digitPDX Right thanks.
I had a rhino mount from wish and it didnt work becuase it didnt potrude out the latch far enough but it did work with my bumper helmet despite it falling off but yes that is an option
and only buy night vision from a legit respected company
+blkcpdconure Bwahahaha. Half the good stuff I bought was totally unmarked from contractors who won't say what part of the middle east they were in or what they were doing there...
8digitPDX
That's great dude. Can everyone do that?
+blkcpdconure get off your high horse, guy. Some of us like to buy gen 1's for shits and giggles.
+blkcpdconure Yes, you just need to find the right dealer. I can get Level III body armor that weighs less than 2lbs for $150 a piece right now. You would have to pay $800+ for something that light from every American manufacturer I've seen. When you buy something from an American company you may be getting quality, but they are gouging you because of their own high operating and manufacturing costs. You can blame taxes and tariffs for that.
Rr rr wouldn't even waste time on lvl 3. 4 or better
There 100 bucks if u look
where at
Why spend money on this? These cheap digital things are a waste of money. You will spend a LOT of money by going cheap. I learned that the hard way. $2k wasted until I did what I should have done at the get go. If you really want night vision buy a REAL pvs14 otherwise you will get nothing but disappointment.
+blkcpdconure Gen 1's are great. They're like a beater truck. Gen 1's with an undetectable IR illuminator are money. You can actually use them without worrying about them getting dropped, stolen, broken, submerged, etc. It's nice having something you can actually use because it's not to expensive to lose.
Gen 1 is a waste of money. Got to at least get Gen 2+ and up
blkcpdconure
***** When you say digital are you speaking of thermal? You stated most digital NV units are far better than Gen 2 and 3 night vision devices? That statement is simply not true especially when you compare them to gen 3 units. What digital NV units are you referring to?
I did a quick google search and did not find any high quality units. Then I checked the sites that I know carry tactical equipment and none of them sale digital night vision. I currently have a gen 3 pvs 14. Is there anything digital nv that is both helmet and weapon mountable with enough aftermarket accessories?

All that money for junk
waste of time dude.
bla bla bla.........
it really suck and i hate it so much
I bought and is garbage.
As time went on with Canis Latrans, I found their quality control and warranty service situations to be unacceptable. It's too bad, because they have a bunch of clever stuff, but you end up guessing through it item by item and just having to assume that you will have a 50% fail rate with each shipment. That's why US based retailers of the same stuff get such a high markup on it when there is any level of warranty service.
GET TO THE FUCKING POINT.
why do yanks talk and talk on and on and on and on and on...........................................................................................................................
Seriously? Do sort out the people of low character because they tend to have short attention span and just want the short path to knowing shit that probably ought not have been their business anyway, but we stand by a commitment to make certain knowledge public, although nobody says it has to be short and easily available.
See couldn't say that without going on and and on..........and on and on!!!!!!!😂
