1 lb ground beef
1 yellow onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (15-oz) can diced tomatoes (undrained)
1 (15-oz) can tomato sauce
1 1/2 cup water
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 lb elbow macaroni
In a large pot or saucepan, cook ground beef over medium heat until no
longer pink. Drain grease. Add onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes,
or until soft and fragrant. Add the water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes,
Italian seasoning, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, chili
powder and black pepper and stir together. Bring to a boil and then reduce
heat. Cover the pot and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Add the macaroni and stir
until well combined. Re-cover the pot and simmer for 20-25 minutes until
the macaroni is cooked through. Remove from heat, stir and remove the bay
leaves. Allow to sit for 15 minutes before serving.
Mmm. Looks great, Dan It’s what’s for dinner. 😋
Yum! I like chopped green pepper with my onion too. Omg you remind me of my hubby and he has that exact shirt 😎😎😎 nice recipe buddy!
My Mom would make this every Halloween for dinner it was tradition looked forward to it every year it was the best! 😊
(: It is a dish that most people have good memories of!!!!! ... ☺
Once a year! Omg! I make this at least twice a week for my kids!

(: I like it alot too!!!!! ... ☺
I like the way you cook, no cook book , just " knowing what to do ! " , that is how I cook ! Great video !
With my wife recovering from knee surgery, I have had to take over the cooking and tried this recipe and we replaced the chili
powder with Hungarian Paprika and it was VERY GOOD! My wife and I definitely will make this goulash again!
(: That works too!!!!! ... ☺
Next time You should replace this entire thing with the original, trust me, You won't regret. :-)
Absolutely great instructions for the ingredients and instructions for making!
i made almost the same thing a couple days ago...used rotel...it was spicy but bland so i added some italian season...that stuff is magic! :o
I made this last night it was the best goulash ever thanks for the recipe dan awesome stuff🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Just subscribed. Because this recipe makes a lot more sense to me and looks delicious.
I think the simpler, the better.
Made goulash for the first time using this this recipe and it's delish.
Delicious!
Yo all forgot some smoked paprika and some cumin to taste and you got my grandma Nellie's attest a 100 year recipe top it with shredded cheese and green onions yummy for the tummy
I made a vegan version of this for supper tonight. I used Gardein crumbles and no chili powder. I used some turmeric & garlic along with onion , Italian seasoning, season salt , vegetable broth & Annies vegan Worcestershire sauce. I've always cooked the pasta separately but this was so much easier. Green beans for a veggie & it was delish!!!
Making a grocery list today & making some of your recipes! Thanks Dan! Making this one first 👍🏼😊
That looks good. I'm going to try that. Thanks for sharing your recipe
Yum
Dan very good you cook like a man! To all the woman complaining of course you can do it better! Men aren't competing with you, you're the best! But man cooking will keep you alive!

Chilli roni. lol I love the stuff and make it all the time. Once the chilli powder hits it it's chilli roni.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 soo healthy
Hey Dan , I gave you a thumbs up and a subscription . I think you do a great job and your goulash looked really good with the cheese . As time goes on you may try different ideas to improve your recipes , as we all do . As long as you love to cook it gets better and better . Thats why us grandma's always cook such good things . Looks great. I bet this would be a good crock pot meal.
That looks 😋 yummy! And not as complicated as some goulash recipes I've seen. I will save this and try it soon👍
Looks so good!
Looks great, Dan. Good job!
Dan, I am a Kid of the Sixties. My Mom Always used Large Shell Pasta Shells.Probably a 50s recipe. I still make it that way.Always loved Green Bell Peppers in it.

Man, I'd have to have me some nice French bread or garlic toast to go with that.

Looks delicious 👌👌
Your recipe looks great I can't wait to try
nice
I always added whatever was left over in fridge - corn or green beans usually but always added potatoes (cubed and boiled). Stretches that pound of meat but now that I am cooking for 1 I still add the potatoes as I love the taste of the pasta and potatoes simmered in the goulash. My mother also added stewed tomatoes in place of the diced but I prefer the fire roasted diced tomatoes myself.
(: The only problem with using both potatoes and pasta is that you have 2 starches!!!!! ... :(
My grandmother made goulash that was awesome & included kidney beans.
Thank you .This looks , great !
(: Yes ... It does!!!!! ... ☺
Looks good I’ll try your recipe.... Thanks 👍
I keep it simple. lb burger, 1 cup chopped onion, 1 cup chopped sweet pepper and 1 qt stewed tomatoes. Basil thyme to taste. Cook till meats brown. Pour over 1 lb cooked elbows.
Good job Dan!
That dish must be so delicious and I only remember eating it once and that was in a school dish they served us when in high school.
My wife made it the same way but added green beans. The bell pepper idea sounds good too.
(: Sounds great to me!!!!! ... ☺
Looks good 👍 delicious 😋.
Delicious
The Italian seasoning gave it an odd flavor. I think if I make it again, i'll only add 1 teaspoon or maybe even 1/2 teaspoon. I also added some beef bouillon cubes, because I thought it needed some more flavor. Thank you for the video🙂
You are absolutely right, 1 Tbsp is a bit much. I think the last time I made it I only used a teaspoon and thought i changed it in the comments but I guess not.
plus it's just as good the next day if it makes that long!
washer and dryer in the kitchen is pretty wild....never seen that before, and im a journeyman carpenter...
I, too, was a journeyman carpenter and also happen to be a "Taylor" lol. But I've seen it. Washer/dryers... My house originally had a small water heater in the kitchen. It only had to feed the kitchen sink and the bathroom, just a few feet away. It was a small, starter home (before a bunch of additions) which had no place to put a heater or washer/dryer.
Its sometimes regional and was a common occurrence thru the '50s and early '60s to have appliances in the kitchen of a starter house which consisted of two bedrooms, an eat-in kitchen and a bathroom. Period. No garage, just a carport, no "service porch" off the back of the house for a washer/dryer and water heater and no laundry room. Just the basic house, very common in what was known as "war housing" which were small, basic, cheap homes that went up in a hurry to accommodate the thousands of recently separated soldiers and their new families after WWII.
Sorry for the civics lesson/rant but it's appropriate to the topic...
Houses like that cant even be built today, now that the government decides how many square feet you have to have.
This is why it's so hard for young couples to buy an inexpensive, new home now. There is really no such thing as a true "starter home." They have to buy more house than they need or want and is a big part of what contributed to the housing disaster that busted the economy.
People were forced to buy more house than they need and the govt. actually forced the lenders to approve loans that were too much for them to bare. Leave it to the govt. to "make things better."
Removing the ridiculous property restrictions and letting people build small homes would solve that situation but building these small homes "brings down property values" and the govt. can't make any money on property taxes. That is the base cause for all the chaos... The property taxes were too low so the representatives couldn't make the prerequisite promises to spend a bunch of taxpayer dollars to make themselves popular and get elected.
I realize that it sounds like a disgruntled, cynical rant but history proves this out. It's a sad time in "the land of opportunity" where everyone is supposed to be able to achieve the American dream... A little pink house with a picket fence (also against the zoning laws, now) a reasonably priced car in the driveway and a small yard for a kid and a dog.
The requirements for a new home permit, as to minimum size, etc. are ridiculous and so the dream becomes a nightmare. But, they have a room for water heaters and washer/dryers.
@@MtnBadger wow, well said Mr.Taylor thanks for the education, you've been very informative.I've never seen that in California.the closest thing may be in leisure world in Laguna beach but that's a community for retired elderly people.as for property taxes .Gov.newsome just raised mine.it sucks out here.anyway thanks for the knowledge on "WAR HOUSING"you've been very informative.thumbs up Taylor...
@@thomastaylor9579
No problem. Thanks for being receptive to some general knowledge, many here get upset if you actually communicate in a communication forum. LOL
The short bit to take away is that you literally cant build the type home you want in your own property if it doesn't "cost enough."
The govt.'s desire to artificially raise property values, in order to ultimately raise taxes, has done immeasurable damage to both the economy of America and the individual citizens who have to either buy beyond their means or not be able to buy at all.
(: It was a big trend in the 90's!!!!! ... ☺

Exactly how I make it but I add a little bit of green pepper
Looks wonderful! However, I'd use tomato soup instead of sauce and swap some of the water for beef broth. Just a taste preference.:)
I like to add red bell pepper to mine along with the onion, and I know this part is unhealthy but I like to leave a little hamburger grease in for richness. This looks delicious. Now I'm hungry.😍😋
(: It probably is healthy as they now say "the body does need fat"!!!!! ... ☺
(: Not a ton of it of course, but it does need it!!!!! We got 'fooled' with margarine too because it is the "butter that is healthier"!!!!! Then they "shoved" all the unhealthy soy products down our throats!!!!! ... :(
(: I add peppers too but not onion!!!!! ... ☺
Now they are saying aspartame in diet soda is bad for you. I wonder what will be next? Also, I might try making goulash without onions next time. The other flavors might stand out more🙂
Lot of variations to this recipe. Our family style is to use diced potatoes, and peppers. Being conscious of sodium, I use unsalted tomato sauce and diced tomatoes and use a reduced sodium taco seasoning.. I have made your recipe and will sometimes use up old left over cheese and throw it into the oven for awhile.
good stuff thanks
That's fancy American Goulash. The one I make is so delicious with only 3 ingredients.
@Trousersnake Pliskin

@Trousersnake Pliskin
(: Great Tip ... ☺ I agree, It should not taste like Tomato Sauce!!!!! (:
Thank You!!!!! ... 😚
Pretty much what I do, I like half hamburger half Italian sausage. I add bell pepper and mushrooms. I use low sodium beef broth instead of water. So, I guess it's not pretty much what I do. Just calling it the same thing.
at a restoration shop I work for, the boss's mom would make 2 big trays of this every year for the workers during crunch time before a big show....but they referred to it as "Beef-a-Reno"
cook the mac. or large shells in water by them selves until just eldenta ,or just before done in a seperate pot.
Hey Dan, Just subbed. I'm gonna try this
Say it Dude.... It's a Skillet....! That Onion isn't diced.... It's Chopped...! Don't forget the Dried Mustard Powder....!
Yummy! We put corn in ours. Are your washer and dryer in your kitchen? Lol you are multi tasking!
Corn sounds like a great idea, I am going to have to try that! It took some getting used to when I first got this house but I have gotten used to having the washer and dryer in the kitchen, it's a decent size kitchen though so not too bad
(: Nothing wrong with that!!!!! ... ☺
80 hour standing ovation!
(: Great Recipe!!!!! ... ☺
thumb up and subscribed
Can you make this ahead of time and eat later? Or does it have to be eaten right away? Does it taste ok if you reheat it?
I would say this is one of those dishes that actually tastes better the next day
Am I the only person that puts the onions in first and starts to fry them? Ground beef Cooks rather quickly and you don't want to overcook it. Onions just get better the more you cook them
That is definitely an option, however I wasn't looking to caramelize the onions I just wanted them softened and translucent
Have some cornbread with it
Quit different than my open ajar of spaghetti sauce add to meat and elbow mac and call it goulash. I defiantly will keep this recipe to use next time. Thank you.
Put the macaroni on the side and we called that "Sloppy Joes..." LOL
(: ☺😚
Yummers! I'm going to add your goulash recipe to my collection! Goulash, like chili has many variations. Nothing wrong with trying an alternative recipe to have variety! Some folks freaked out in some of the comments due to a lack of paprika? Again, we may àll have our personal/standard/traditional goulash recipes but chill folks and try an alternative now and then! You may be surprised how yummy a new/alternative recipe is compared to your traditional go to recipe! Thanks for sharing your goulash recipe sir! Bon appetite y'all!
Thank You, that was exactly what I was thinking when I was reading alot of these posts. It's a goulash, you can add or subtract whatever you want based on your likes and preferences
Dining with Dan! I agree. I usually add jalapenos and garlic to mine, and sometimes a little cumin.
This looks good and I'm ready for a bowl of it right now ! However, it is different than the way I make it, I have had it with chili powder before and it's really good. I'm a paprika user, though, when I make goulash and I put a lot in. To each, his own. That's the beauty of it. I always use ground chuck. It is more flavorful than burger. I brown it to the chocolate brown stage, so that it will taste more like a roast. Otherwise, I add onion, garlic, canned mushrooms, oregano, paprika, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and cooked macaroni, salt and black pepper.
Thanks for sharing your recipe. It really looks good. It looks like the type served at a little greasy spoon I've gone to for about 25 years. Good food. You put a lot of flavorings in yours, so that there would be some complexity that would delight the taste buds.

1/2 lb of mac. I would think he'd use full lb. Gonna try it!@🤘🤘👍
DO NOT USE GROUND BEEF IN PACKS YOU CAN'T SEE THRU, as i & my friends have found maggots in them,,when popping in the skillet begins that's maggots bursting,
Hungarian goulash is simply beef stew with paprocka period.
(: "paprika" ... ☺
When is the last time you said , God that bay leave made that dish or even helped with flavor or even can taste bay leave.
Every time, it actually does enhance the flavor of any dish you put them in
TY TY for not adding mushrooms or bell peppers, lol. My mama always said if she couldn't grow it, she wasn't going to buy it. She never had much luck with either of those, but she COULD grow tomatoes, rofl, so many she could have sold them, but she canned them instead. :D
and she was only talking about fruit and veggies, altho she did have chickens and rabbits. ;)
(: Peppers grow easily!!!!! ... ☺
(: She missed out though with that analogy!!!!! ... :(
Save from Brazil🇧🇷
the mashing of the meat & tomatoes will let the meat get into the pasta holes ,giving every bite flavor.
Put the onion in with the ground beef at the beginning. Why wait?
red and/or green peppers a/o mix
You can use whatever your preference is, I use both to put a little color in it
My mom's version was more simple. After the meat/garlic/onion, add a can of campbells beef soup w/water and a can of mushrooms then add the cooked noodles. Thats it. My version adds green pepper and fresh mushrooms.
(: There are many different recipes for this!!!!! ... ☺ It is good with Mushrooms and Peppers too!!!!! (:

Add bacon and some of the grease, ooh yeah
Uhhhh, yeah. This is Paula Deens recipe except for the inconsequential, unnecessarily 1 tea chili powder. 😏 She says soy sauce, but can use Worcestershire instead as most people do. She is a saltaholic and prefers soy sauce. She has done this recipe many times over the years and just did again for a quarantine dish with her son Bobby. They call it Bobby’s Goulash...”grub food.” It’s the favorite dish his Mom makes and requests it every year for his birthday. Nothing wrong with making a video of her recipe, many others have claimed it. But, almost everyone else credits Paula and links her original recipe in the drop down box. Return email comment notifications are not available at this time.
I don't see how "this is Paula Deens recipe" when you said she doesn't put chili powder in it and I would never use soy sauce in it, I mean it doesn't even sound close to the one I made. However, I had no idea that she made one, and after I followed her recipe one year for a ham glaze that was pretty much just salt and soy sauce that nearly killed me I don't follow her at all!
Goulash with no paprika?
I agree Norman!
My Hungarian grandmother would not have recognized this as goulash. This is more like DIY Hamburger Helper.
@@agc2477 I know Hungarian goulash. This is not Hungarian Goulash. Hungarian Goulash is a soup. Dan properly names this American Goulash, much to his credit. Nothing wrong with that. Lots of Americans think this is Hungarian Goulash. I believe Dan knows the difference.
