12:18 That reveal though. This turned out drop dead gorgeous.
Gorgeous. One of the coolest Star Wars designs ever. Such an intriguing and mysterious character
Protip i learned in an adam savage tested video, apparently all gold leaf is traditionally done over red paint not sure if it helps with the outcome but its cool to know
That’s super interesting to know, thank you! Apparently it’s done to warm the gold colour. Not sure if it would work with all qualities of gold leaf but it’ll be something I keep in mind if I do any other gold leaf work.
What Qasim the name of the video this was in?
7:55 to avoid the color "bleeding" under the masking you can spray with white or clear coat before painting red. The clearcoat / white will bleed first, filling most of the gaps, letting you spray red just fine ;)
Awesome helmet btw !
I believe that trick has been mentioned to me before but I apparently don’t do enough masking to have remembered it 🤣
Will be super helpful to others coming across this video that are looking at making their own helmet!
wow
Glad to see more prop makers using ABS and realizing it’s the superior filament! Great work. He looks amazing.
Somehow I’d only found out recently how much easier it sanded. If I’d known earlier I’d have probably tried getting one of my other machines to like printing it.
@@MMsPropShop I did a video on a Mando helmet that was pretty much about post processing ABS. It’s just fast to do. Plus the heat resistance you don’t have to worry about it melting in your car 🤣
ABS peak
This looks amazing... almost good enough for one of the hosts (Wes Chatham who played Captain Enoch) of our podcast to wear. I hate to ask how much one of these would cost...
You don’t miss!
The Wabi Sabi aspect of their gold infused suits and helmets was so dope. This came out amazing
Yeah, like we were all watching those vids in lockdown and now Star Wars claims it as their own.
Brilliant work! We'd hire ya!😁
I didn't know i could resin and glue ontop of filler primer!?! That's amazing.
whoah!!!! you captured that spookyness from the tv show ,its incredible!!
That turned out incredibly good. It's always astounding how much a simple wash can elevate things.
Great project. Given that you're printing with ABS, have you considered vapor smoothing the surface with acetone instead? Basically just hang the part in a sealed container with a paper towel that has some acetone on it for about an hour, and the surfaces will come out looking glossy smooth and will remove the layer lines. That may be a way to cut down on the manual work a bit, although you will still need to sand back the rough spots of the support material.
I did consider it but I was concerned that it might warp the pieces and prevent them from fitting together properly. Plus I wanted to keep the post processing methods similar to what I’d been used to using to be able to compare how they’d work with ABS. I think sanding the pieces is what’s going to work best for me for now.
The quality of the print & final result is super impressive! =D
That thing is freaking awesome!
this is incredible disney needs to hire you ASAP
You made that look like a walk in the park. Stunning.
I love when RUclipsrs sound like they are laughing through their monologue. Reminds me of the Bill Cosby Jell-O, pudding pops commercials. 😂
Enoch was giving me some Necromonger vibes (Chronicles of Riddick)
I didn't know I needed a foot sander until now. Looks like an amazing tool. Great job on the helmet!!
Yes! It’s honestly probably my favourite tool that I used on 3d printed projects. It’s a complete game changer.
Impressive......Most impressive.
Binging your videos now, you're awesome! Great work; climbing up to your level :) The gold leaf looks impeccable!
Weathering has been my Achilles Heel when it comes to my props, it's either been too little or too much every single time. I'm definitely going to give the dirty paint water version a try as that seems much easier and seems to give a very good finish overall, thank you for the tip!
Nice! You just earned a new subscriber. RUclips actually recommended a good channel this time.
Beautiful piece of art
Absolutely gorgeous. So impressive.
Incredibly amazing end result - just, awesome!
Thank you for sharing!!!
A beautiful piece of work, gorgeous well done!
This is absolutely phenomenal! Amazing job!
Thanks!
Looks incredible, and awesome video! Thanks for making Me and Vek's model! We had so much fun making it
That came out great!!
I love the attention to detail.
Great New Character, and great video :)
Fantastic work! I'll have to try the airbrush wash technique next time.
impressive. super clean *.*
Looks Great! Just found your channel. Awesome quick step by step explanation of each process, and I love the weathering technique thanks for sharing !
Wow that helmet looks really awesome!
Well now I have to try using gold leaf!! I have been trying to figure out a good gold option with paint but this works amazing!! Nice job.
Love it! What a phenomenal piece you made! Btw - I picked up (2) of those sanders - what a great tool - thanks!!
Your prop replicas are always of exceptional quality, the attention to detail is brilliant, and this is no different, I love your Mandalorian bust, and General Grievous bust, just to name a few of my favorites, and this is a stunner too. Absolutory spectacular. Keep up the good work. 10/10 Beauty.
Thank you so much!
That came out incredible. Nice work!
The gold leaf is a dope touch! I’d probably have been tempted to load a roll of gold silk PLA in the AMS and print all the gold pieces out. But your way looks so good!
So clean.
Awesome! I love all the passionate artists, craftspeople, & all the DIY makers out there displaying their work. I’m a techie but have a passion for art & design too along with a DIY Maker side.
I’m a born & raised NY but had Japanese culture in my house as my Mom was Japanese. Anyway, I was totally surprised & elated to see that many Star Wars fans know of the Japanese craft of kintsugi which is repairing broken pottery & ceramics by filling in cracks with gold filament. While Japanese culture covets aesthetics, order & perfection there is an almost spiritual affinity for repaired
Or worn items as the scars or repairs are part of it’s overall charm & aesthetic. It’s an amazing philosophy for many reasons. I think it provokes thought & makes people less obsession over impossible beauty standards, for example. Embrace the imperfections as intrinsically beautiful. The Japanese design philosophy Wabi Sabi touches upon this very idea.
Again, awesome work & talent. Captain Enoch is both aesthetically cool but there is an underlying spookiness about the worn uniform & its implications.🫤
first video ive seen of yours and wow, just amazing work. all the techniques and the execution. love it!!!
Great job on this! But...I need to know more about that foot sander!!
Haha, thank you! Here’s a whole video about it:

Looks fantastic!! Very nicely done.
Turned out great! Nice work.
Great job.
Stunning work! Great finish on the helm.
Fantastic work ... 👌🏻
👏This is absolutely magnificent! Watching you put this together was inspirational and I've sent it to all of my kids and students.🤣 I'm obvs a fan and you've got a new sub.
Really inspiring, and what a gorgeous final piece. Very much looking forward to your thorough review of the printer.
Hi. Beautiful piece. Really enjoyed watching your progress.
Thank you!
To have a better mask for painting you can first paint with white (or whatever colour the plastic is on other projects) so seal the tape against the helmet and stop paint from seeping out, then you spray the colour that you want (in this case red for the cogs).
Wowsers that turned out fantastic 😍 your awesome 👏
It looks amazing. Bravo!!!
muy lindo tu trabajo, me encanta como quedan
Good job !
Professional 👍
What an amazing prop!!
This looks so cool...i want one! :(
So good. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Excellent
perfect
Looks so good, nice job!
awesome work :)
That is one beautiful job
very cool
Awesome video!
What brand did you use for the filler primer and satin white?
Also, was there a specific type of grey/black paint that was used?
Awesome work!
Incredible work, could you tell me how to find a sander like the one in your video?
It’s one of these ones: amzn.to/3JJxTAR
So cool,awesome job!❤
Outstanding!
So perfect - Chapeau! 😘
Awesome work and great video. I actually ordered the same printer just before I found your video, I'm super excited to try it out. I've never printed ABS how did you find the fumes?
It definitely has a sent to it when it prints although I didn’t find that it bothered me in any way. It could vary by ABS filament with some giving off a stronger scent, etc. I’m sure it could be further minimized by placing something like an air purifier close to the machine while it’s printing ABS.
Thanks, I will give ABS a try and see how it goes. I look forward to watching more of your content. @@MMsPropShop
Very nice. Overall finish aside, how does gold leaf compare to painting? Easier, longer, about the same?
I've only seen signwriters use gold leaf for lettering on race cars, and they burnish it by hand with a swirl, so maybe the helmet they rubbed the gold leaf in a direction for that brushed metal look on the face.
In this project’s case I’d say the gold leaf was far easier and less time consuming. If I hadn’t used the leaf I probably would have decided to use duralumen/alumaluster and then recolour it gold which would have involved attempting to mask all of the cracks to airbrush it on. Even if I managed to mask everything off it wouldn’t have been as clean a job. Was way easier to just apply the gilding glue into the cracks and not have to worry about the gold leaf sticking to anything it shouldn’t have.
sick
What were your filament settings? I’m want to straight up copy cat ya. I have never printed with abs in my life.
Where did you find those amazing reference photos?
A lot of them were just the renders of the file I used to help me with the gold and grey panel placement.
looks great! may I ask what the varnish was?
The varnish was just whatever came in the gold leaf kit.
That's awesome! I've been holding off doing a zombie trooper but now I want to do a zombified night trooper! I plan to mix parts from my Sandtrooper with broken Stormtrooper parts I've been collecting with a few 3D parts from my future 3D printer 😅. Your vid is helpful. Have to pick up an airbrush. Also, what resin do you use to smooth out parts? What material would you suggest for the red stripe cloth?
Oooo that would look awesome! The resin is just UV printer resin mixed with fumed silica powder to thicken it up a bit. It can be used on its own though or even just mixed with baby powder.
My best guess is the cloth on the night troopers is supposed to be the same fabrics that you see the nightsisters wearing. Looks like various linens or even silk. There are a lot of different types of fabric that could work though beyond that.
😲👍 Wow!
cool prop, but for cosplay how would you do the eyes so you could see?
There’s a mesh version of the eye file that you could print and but some sort of fabric over that to make it look more solid. You could also just replace the eye prints with something like welding visor pieces. I really only cared about it being a display piece so that’s why I kept the eyes solid on mine.
Great work as always. I've been waiting for a new video since the last one! Did you make progress with the IG?
Thank you! IG is actually completely finished, I just haven’t gotten a chance to edit the video yet. Hoping to start tackling it in the next couple of weeks.
@@MMsPropShop can't wait!
Did you just Resin? Or did it have a mixture of baby powder or would baking powder, or just resin?
I have mine mixed with fumed silica powder but I used baby power for years. Mostly I got sick of the smell lol. The resin on its own can work fine, the power just helps to thicken it so that it will build up in the cracks faster.
👏👏👏👏
Cuales son las dimensiones del casco es muy grande?
What top coat did you use to protect the paint?
