This was probably meant to be released in the hotel + update but ended up being saved for the Febuary update because it was not finished in time. I think this because it was teased for the update by that one video.
My guess is that Dread would work similarly to the rain in Rain World: - There's a timer that indicates when it'll spawn (In this case, the grandfather clocks) - Once that timer reaches 0, the game will give you an opportunity to hide/find a way to avoid it before it strikes - Exposed players will be blown to smithereens, whereas hidden players will have to wait until it's safe to keep exploring Dunno if you'll have to use your typical hiding spot to avoid him, or a whole new mechanic will be added
i think it's a great idea to have an entity that spawns based on how much time has passed rather than what room the player is in or rng when opening a door, im not too sure what times it could spawn though. only at midnight seems like dread would either spawn too far little or not even at all, because as far as im aware the clocks do move at a normal speed (1 hour on the clock is still 60 real minutes (i don't mean they match real time)). i only say midnight cause that was the time in the one trailer which showed dread. maybe it could spawn every hour, but that still seems like way too little. almost nobody will spend 2+ hours on a run, and most experienced players can beat the game in far under an hour so they still might not even see dread. im not so sure about it spawning every 30 minutes either because that still has way less significance than a whole hour imo i think the idea is really cool but i cant imagine how they would implement it without it being some 1 time per run entity. i know ambush and halt are pretty much that due to their rarity, but a time based entity just feels like it should come more than once to me unless it'll just be like a way to kill players if they take too long to beat the game (as in they will die regardless of if they hide) though i dont think that's a good idea

ALTHOUGH, I could see Dread spawning only once per run. My runs only take about 30-40 mins, and I consider myself quite good at the game. New people might take a full hour, or even two. That's plenty of time for him to spawn. But if the time on doors is how you describe it, accurate to real-life time... Then we have a huge problem for our trypophobia friend.
My thoughts were that since his name is Dread, what if instead of him instantly appearing after the signs that he will appear, he waits 10-20 seconds to barge in so that you are always dreading when he will appear, and you won't know when to hide.

i have a theory about dread Since dread is Related to the Grandfather clock, and keep in mind Grandfather clocks always spawn in key rooms. It maybe an entity that acts like a timer. When the player is stuck in the room for to long, Dread will kill the player. And my theory about its mechanics, the mechanics of it that it will go through each room slowly like Figure's speed you need to hide in a closet or a bed
when the clock hits midnight players will hear the weird whispering sound which is his footsteps he will start coming from the front door and go until the last door if you go out of the closet he will scream or something and you gotta go inside again quickly kinda like ambush he will go back and foward slowly until 1 minute passes after that he will go away thats how i think he is going to work!
I really don't want it to just be a timer for lock rooms that would suck even thought it makes the most sense. The clocks spawn in lock rooms. Lock rooms take a long time. Currently no threat in lock rooms aside from dupe. You could do so much more with it but it makes so much sense

He sounds like he’s tearing apart the wooden boards of the hotel so my guess is that he would’ve made holes in the walls with the view of the outside and tossed furniture everywhere when he appears but it got too costly with the update and he was Scrapped/Saved for later
i'm 75.0% sure this is how dread is going to work when you unlock the first door in the hotel the grand father clocks will start to tick. you will just walk through the hotel like you normally do but then the grandfather clock will hit 12 am and the ringing will start. you have to get to a hiding spot in time for dread to not kill you when he teleports into the middle of the room and he will stay there until it hits 12:01 am. i think he will attack about 2 or 3 times in a normal run
There's actually 2 versions of Dread. 1. Black version (shown in the video) 2. White version (dread without any color effects i think) I actually found a white version of dread and I was so suprised lol Edit: seriously, i found white dread in the game is that rare?
I think this would have had something to do with the clocks, since in that one teaser we saw a transparent version of dread when the clock hit 12. My idea of it would be if you don't leave in a certain time limit, then one of the grandfathers clock would hit 12 and dread would spawn. The thing it does when it spawns is unknown, but my idea is when it hits 12, Dread would go around the room, and if you don't hide in time, you will get instantly killed. I imagine now it's going to be used in floor 2, or perhaps added back into floor 1.

Well, if the name of this entity is Dread, which also means great fear, does that mean it could be an entity that just haunts the player, or at least makes the noises in the hotel? my idea for what it does: the radio appears in a random room and the music starts playing from dread, and it will appear in front of a door, how to avoid it, lower the radio volume down for dread to disappear, if you die by dread, the guiding light will say “You died to dread.. Pay attention to the Music, they can easily be done by this.” and if you pass dread the achievement will say “Turn That Music Down! The music is too loud, Survive by dread.”

i believe he controls everything for example: time, map and items. When you place the crucifix it distorts the crucifix and breaks it the map shakes and you have to hide because a very strong and hot light will come that can kill the player so hide in beds
