All I have to say is CC Deville is a VERY successful guitar player. 40 years of playing in stadiums, arenas, number one hits, and several world tours! All the sh!t talk about him is usually from less successful people.
I say this in the most humble way that I can ,and don’t mean any disrespect at alI or think I’m better than anyone else, but his name is spelled “Jani” with an “I “ at the end…peace, brother!
@@JohnnyInvictus Thanks for the correction! I don't choose to be offended by anyone or anything! I spelt his name wrong, you put me back on the right track. Many thanks, peace to you. 👍🏻
Poison slaughter was my first concert (rip Tim Kelly) then shortly after warrant trixter firehouse (blood sweat and beers tour) rip jani and cj. 2 of my favorite bands thanks for the memories!
I remember being at a music store in NYC and I wanted to try out the new Vai guitar when it first came out. There was a guy tryin it before me and I politely asked if I could try it next. I started playing another guitar and we soon started jamming. He asked if I knew any warrant. So we started playing a few songs. I played it completely different than he did. We were joking about how songs can be played differently but still sound almost the same. Then he asked if I was seeing them play later in the night. I said yeah, that was the reason I was there. He said maybe you will see me. I said I doubt it, there will thousands of people there. He laughed and said I think you will see me. I laughed and said who knows maybe. With that he leaves and the manager walks over and asks if I knew who I was playing with. I said I had no idea but he was nice guy and was obsessed with Warrant. He laughed and said that is because he is one of the guitarists in Warrant. Turns I saw him but he didnt see me. I was in the nose bleed section.
@MastersofShred my uncle's friend used to own a place in LA called Guitars R Us. They would lend guitars to all of the 80s cats for their videos. CC was a local and would go there all the time. When i was 10, (1988 ish) my uncle's friend got me a personalized note and autograph along with a Polaroid Pic to prove it was from him. The note said, hey Nicky, love it to death, keep playing, CC Deville.
I seen Poison about 5yrs ago I was shocked C.C. Sounded so good and tore it up🤘that and Tesla’s Frank Hannon and Dave Rude made for a great night of guitars
C.C. Gets more love now which is great. He plays better now than back then. Thing is he never claimed to be the best, he just wrote memorable stuff and his tone is instantly recognizable. Joey has always been class, I saw them front row center on the Blood Sweat and Beers tour it was fantastic. My best friend met him and chatted about that show and said Joey couldn’t have been nicer. Wish him all the best.
The thing about cc is that he wanted to be recognized as the fastest. Most guitar players eventually graduate from that mindset after realizing that it's all about the music and nothing else. When cc would get away from the I need to be the fastest, he could play very melodic and tastefully. Some of his best work was on songs like every rose.
CeCe is underrated guitar player what did he made that bad poison sound awesome without him I don't think they would have made it my hat goes off to him I'm so glad he cleaned up his act
Joey that was awesome of you when someone brings up Eddie's greatest from back in the day you made sure to include Randy Rhoads in the mix cause he was most definitely always the constant student of his craft and the dedication as a musician he put forth into the instrument and his education far exceeded 99% of his contemporaries learning music theory and song structuring that was so apparent in his compositions later in life .the guy was reading and writing music on sheets under the age of 10 .along with learning classical guitar and music also at such a young age .his mother had him taking lessons not just on the guitar .he was taught piano and several other instruments ranging from strings like the violin to brass .trombone saxophone .trumpet flute .he wasn't just a guitar player he was a true musician .(there is a difference) and all this came out in his song writing and compositions .so many guitar players from these 80s hair metal bands were greatly influenced by Eddie and Randy both .as such a huge Rhoads fan myself its great to hear him get the praise he so greatly deserves
I’ve been playing guitar since the 80’s and never fully got the CC hate. I mean I’m a Kiss fan too and I saw some similarities to Ace, but with a much more modern twist at the time. He wrote some good songs and solos. Was always a ton of fun when I saw them live. People just hated Poison or at least snotty guitarist that were told he was a bad player. I kept trying to find out what they hated so much. Most likely just an image thing. What did they want from him? Did he have to be some virtuoso to be accepted? To me, he had tons of style to his playing. He’s gotten a bad rap for decades and I think it’s undeserved for a rock guitar player. Back then someone always had to be the best or whatever. He sold many millions doing his thing and perhaps some players thought they were as good as him and probably were, but there are other factors that count just as much as being some virtuoso player is a pop hard rock band.
I had Joey's FELIX guitar(and other Warrant guitars) at my house for a few days so they wouldn't disappear while the Flight Cases were being fixed after the equipment truck rolled off the road and all the A&S cases flew out when the roof ripped open. Yes, of course I played them! ruclips.net/user/shortsSZdF1RkUpfk
C.C. absolutely smoked that "Cherry Pie" solo! And it was a great move on Warrant's part to help broaden them to a wider audience. Their tone drastically improved from the 1st record to the 2nd.
So true! Is it crazy that Dog Eat Dog is one of my favorite albums from them?! 🙌🎸🔥 Phenomenal album that was overlooked due to the changing music scene at the time😔
@MastersofShred Dog Eat Dog will probably always be my favorite of theirs. Really had some stuff they took risks on beyond what was formula at the time. Also a very Man in the Box inspired (at least sounding) tune in Hole in My Wall. Groovy stuff.
i don't get the cc hate. in a time when so many guitar players sounded extremely similar, cc is one of the guys i can identify in just a couple notes. they say he's sloppy, i say nobody else has his phrasing and tone...
CC seems like an offspring of Ace Frehley... but still a total original. Very underrated guitarist. Mr Rainmaker is a Great Warrant song And Bon Jovi took Skid Row on tour because Jon and Snake Sabo were friends from High School. NJ boys helping their Bro's out
CC is not Kotzen by any means...... however, CC has played some very memorable solos... and I have seen the guy shred... he's actually a very capable player who is humble and sells himself short.... but if you base what you know about CC on his Poison work alone.... you're haven't got the full picture.
Very well said! CC is a fantastic guitarist but sadly most of the people that bash him have never given him a solid listen :/ I would love to interveiw CC some time and shred some light on just how great he is :)
He's great and he and Poison ran circles around Crue and Leppard on the stadium tour. People I know that loved Crue n Leppard more mentioned that Poison stole the show and deserved a longer set and were impressed
Also. I met CC and Kotzen. Kotzen thinks he's a diva and acted like an ass signing merch. Hence why he was booted for sleeping with Rikki's girl on the Native tour. Speaks volumes what kinda guy he is.
@nickmenza2671 I've never met Kotzen... but he's definitely talented. In saying that, both Kotzen and Howe came along after Gilbert had already scorched what earth was left Malmsteen hadn't already burnt up lol.... so in the greater scheme of things....? There are many great players like Kotzen, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe etc that have made a mark.... but not as significant as Malmsteen, Gilbert, Vai and Satriani.
Does this mean we can finally talk about what really happened back in the 80's? All the ghost players, ghost producers and the engineers that really made it happen?
Yeah, I always thought CC got a bad rap because he is mostly a blues style player in a time where shredders were starting to become the "cool" thing. His playing is great though.
Warrant and Poison are 2 of many bands that Beavis and Butthead made fun of 😂😂😂😂. Hair bands didn't do very well in the music critique on that comedy show. 😂😂😂😂😂.
You should watch the full interview, we cracked that myth. We went through every single solo on the first two Warrant albums and Joey contributed a LOT to them 😬🔥🎸

That hair band era of the mid 80s to late 80s sucked and was a total joke and I can see why a 90s comedy show like Beavis and Butthead made fun of that crap with bands like Poison, Warrant, Winger, Cinderella etc. If it wasn't for thrash metal, especially bands like Metallica's and Slayer's new music in the later 1980s or the great rock musicians and bands of rock and metal from the 1960s, 1970s are early 1980s that made newer music in the later 1980s, the later 1980s would have been totally lame. I graduated from high school in 1987 and was in college in the later 1980s and that what was passed as rock with the glam hair bands was a total embarrassment for what is considered hard rock. I thought rock was basically dead until the 1990s when Grunge, the newer metal bands, especially the prog metal bands of the 1990s and especially the metal coming out of Europe made rock and metal great again.
CC is the reason I started playing guitar! The most underrated, under appreciated rockstar guitarist, riff master, of all time. The guy is a legend!
