Thank you, thank you the dealer wanted to charge me $450 to change his bulb. I search multiple videos and yours was the only one who told me about the tabs to move up and down on either side. I am a woman of 61 years old and I did it.
I spent an hour today and this is exactly what I was looking for. I could not get the passenger side bulb out and had to leave for work. One time the algorithm helped me out,
Guys can you explain the tabs better. I was able to change the driver side with no issues. Its super easy to install it but for the life of me I cant get the passangers side bulb to rotate / engage. I am doing the same thing as with the driver seat
Amazing, than you for pointing out those tabs that aren't part of the bulbs. Checked out 5 other channels and none even mentioned. My Father in law also said thanks.
The description of the "tabs" that must be semi-rotated to release the bulb assembly is huge! Saved me from buying another set of bulbs thinking one was bad after the passenger side didn't originally reseat correctly. Thanks about a $100 or so! FYI: This applies to any of the Grand Cherokees of the WK2 ilk with OEM HID.
THANK YOU. As per all of the comments below, no one else tells you about the locking mechanism on the side of the light and not twisting the light itself!
Thanks for the info! I have a 2018 Limited with the Luxury Group II package with the OEM HIDs. Here is a summary of my experience. Definitely remove the airbox and intake plenum for the drivers side, tons more room to work with. Twisting the locking collar around the bulb was tough but keep working at it and it will make sense. I removed the bulb with the electrical connector still on. Be careful when you twist/rotate the bulb out of the housing, go very slowly. There is enough length on the electrical connector wire to allow this method. Squeeze the end of the connector and pull to remove. Installation is reverse order. The passenger side...I removed the ECU/bracket and moved it to the side. This gives you a little more room to get both hands in the tight spot in front of the fusebox and next to the coolant tank. I did the same method as the drivers side, removed the bulb still connected to the wire. I replaced the factory Osram 66340HBI bulbs with the Osram 66340CBA (cool blue advance) bulbs. They are brighter and whiter than the HBIs...definite improvement. These are the same bulbs I had on a previous vehicle so I was familiar with them.
Hi can I ask where you got the bulbs from? I just had a whole ordeal . Buying two HID Xenon bulbs from Napa Auto Parts . They weren't blue or bright white at all. They were just yellow. Besides pay $144 each bulb. I paid $95 for someone to install them just to turn around , and return them. I just want the pretty blue lights. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee .
Hey I am also curious to know what bulbs you got as a replacement (to get brighter) that fits our fancy HIDs? I find they are a bit too yellow and could be a bit stronger. Just got my Jeep a week ago so I'm learning about all of this now!
I have a 2015 Summit and there isn't enough length on the wire of the connector to change the bulb. I'm just trying to swap out for LED's and I'm scared to take the bulb off the plug.. Honestly I don't know if I can get the bulb off the plug without pulling the bumper cover. I'm trying to slide the old one back in and I can't get it to seat right. Its truly a PITA!
Thank You!! Great vid. My right headlight just died. With this tutorial I am going to change it myself instead of paying lots of money to the dealership.
Excellent video - the only one that mentions the rotation of the locking tab in the car, and not the bulb. Really helps when you're dealing with a spot that's really hard to reach and see. Really appreciated !!
i have same problem, 2014 jeep cherokee limited, i cant find any sort of tabs that rotate. got the old one out (but i think i broke it doing so), but cant get the new one in and locked in position
The tabs / tangs should be one straight up and the other to the side - 90 degrees away from the top one - sorry, sitting now after having done it and the job itself meaning you're reaching blind and backwards I can't say where the side tangs are on each one - ie. which is 9 and which is three. THEY BOTH UNDO COUNTERCLOCKWISE AND LOCK CLOCKWISE - ie. 90 degree rotation.
Thanks for the video. Helped me with my HID bulb replacement. On my 2014 Summit with Ecodiesel I had to remove two 10mm fasteners that hold the coolant reservoir in place. This allowed me to access the passenger side bulb. Still very tight, but enough room to get it done. I did not have to remove my ECU. My air filter housing was the same as yours. Thanks again.
You just saved me over $100, I knew nothing about the tabs holding the HID bulb. Ive been trying to force, twist, repeat for abOut 3 hours-will buy you a beer if you are ever in California
Thanks this really helped, Yes the tab it turns about 1/4 turn up or down depending on side you feel it. You have to play with it a little as it might be a little tight. This tab is attached to the main light housing so it is just in front of the square housing on the bulb. It can be a little tricky getting the bulb back into the fixture. just have to line it up and play with it a little. Then it will seat and lock the tab once again. Saved alot of money for a little over an hour work.
Thank you for producing this video it was totally different doing one of these bulbs compared to other ones pull out and replace total time about one hour
Thanks for the vid! The housing twisting and not the bulb assembly itself got me. Should've watched this before tearing my hands up trying to twist something that doesn't twist.
I purchases a set of underground lighting Ds3s which seem to be some of the best ones but they came out of the install very Dim! Extremely dim! The high beams really aren’t that much better! I have a 2014 summit. The pair of headlights I purchased before were dim as well! Any ideas on what could be causing this? I’d hate to have the dealer install and pay 1200🥲. Please help
Great video. Helped a bunch but now my front turn signal doesn't work. Any ideas/suggestions how to replace that? Or does the entire lamp need to be replaced?
HEY. had to do this same thing. Nowy blinker went out on it. Please tell me you have a vid for front driver side blinker lol thanks. Without having to take the front clip and bumper off thanks
Spend most time installing aircleaner , there are these steel ribbons the case of the bulb goes in first , you have to position it perfectly to allow to insert and twist bulb . You should explain how to get the bulb line up perfectly .
Anyone know which way the tabs lock in the bulb? I got the new bulb in place, but now can’t get it to lock in place. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to twist the tabs clock wise or counter clock wise. It might be possible that I damaged them a little bit. Twisting them clockwise seems to secure the bulb a little bit better than counterclockwise, but both ways I can still pull the bulb out. The light works. I’m just worried it’s going to vibrate out of position while driving. Thanks for the great video!
One of my bulbs went out. I read recommendations that you should change both so I did. Now, both bulbs are on, but my headlights are really dim and "dispersed" is the best word I can use to describe. I really wish there was a better video on how to set in the bulbs. I have tried eveything to get them to clip into place but they just fall out. I can't see into the hole so I don't understand how the bulbs clip in. I can feel the metal clips but I am not sure how they work.
@@xXPrestianoXx11 was just doing mine last night twice bc I installed cheap aftermarket bulbs that ended up being worse. The small metal pieces form a square border around the headlight to hold it in place. I push in on the back of the headlight while rotating the plastic pieces to lock it in
Yup, did this myself with the help of this tutorial. Like others have said, those clips are a pain. In the end, apparently the HID D3S bulbs wasn't the culprit. I realized that the high beam "blue icon" on the dash didn't even come on so now I'm lost again. I checked all the fuses etc. but all seem ok. Anyone else out there had this issue with the high beam indicator not even coming on on the dash? Just happened absolutely sporadically and some items suggest the multi switch has gone bad but I don't even know where to start.
Its definitely a PITA. You need to reach at least one finger in past the bulb, you will feel a distinct "tab" on both sides of the bulb. Think of a locking collar with two tabs sticking out, that's what you are feeling for. They are located at either 2 and 8 or 10 and 4 (clock reference). I was able to get my hand/fingers inside by some miracle and rotate both at the same time on the drivers side. You can however rotate just one tab slowly and go back and fourth to each one separately. This is what I had to do on the passenger side. Good luck
@@radean9 When I am trying to put the new headlight in it doesn't seem to sit in all the way tight like the one I removed, It feels like it's lined up properly with the notches but when I go to turn it in tight it only turns maybe a 1/16th turn and seems like it's not fully seated in

NO NEED TO Disassemble Components , THERE IS ACCESS HOLE AT THE FRONT OF WHEEL WELL, YOU CAN REPLACE HID BULBS THRU THEM. Search RUclips for right video, there are some.
That access hole is very small and difficult to maneuver in. I can’t see how I can get an HID in there (passenger side). My 2018 Trailhawk has a lot of cables bulging out when I open that access.
Thanks for the video! Do you know what the difference is in the model you got from Amazon versus the original that's $150 per bulb? For such a drastic difference in price, I'm wondering what the downside is on the Amazon two pack.
Hi, what else did you changed in your Summit? I can say that I changed in mine 2015 Summit all the fluids, left control arm (driver side), power steering reservoir (by mistake I broke the mesh inside the reservoir while changing the fluid), next would be the radiator cap 😂 and a drive belt…(also rear left glass window which is laminated -our dog took care of it, then one call to insurance and service came to replace it for $250) glass from mopar service little over $500 would cost me. O and one more thing replaced is a seat belt buckle driver side, and oil, yes I do change the oil, engine oil😂 o and rotors plus brake pads😂 and filters😂that would be it, pretty long list at 107,000 miles😂
The locking collars undo counterclockwise and do up clockwise - seems obvious I know, but in a car thats several years old the rotten things can be very stiff - and the headlight units are mirror image of each other so I ended up thinking maybe they lock/unlock accordingly - ie. one goes one way and the other goes the other way - but no, they both operate conventional way.
Insane how difficult they are making it to just change a bulb. Engineers constantly going backwards. But i also know they want you to come in and spend a ton of unnecessary money
In the wk2 srt it is a frigging nightmare. I just spent over an hour cussing the engineers at jeep out. The bulb is a hundred dollars, long, skinny, and fragile. You have to blindly install that hundred dollar, let's not forget toxic if broken, bulb in a space not fit for the hands of a grown man. I didn't start soon enough and the sun went down. That coupled with the fact that it was my first time replacing the bulbs on this vehicle made for an interesting evening.
It's so quick and easy, you weren't even able to do it on camera. Smh. It's not that quick nor easy. So how do you get the band back on, with the tabs.... ?
This was a great video for HID details. If you have a Jeep in the right year, I would also recommend this video: ruclips.net/video/gcSp_shzn3s/видео.html This guy doesn't have an HID, but the housing is all the same and coming in from the wheel well is easier than pulling out air filters, etc.

Soon I need to change the HID driver side🙂
One more thing, I did change a rear blinkers for LED, and planning to change reverse lights too🙂
Very helpful thank you!
I have never cussed a headlight out before. I guess there is a first time for everything.
Could never fully understand instructional videos when everything is done off camera 😢
I agree. It would be nice to 'see' the light bulb actually being installed. The description is good, but without visuals, it is hard to follow.
2019 Jeep Cherokee OEM headlights anyone do a video on that?
Insane how difficult they are making it to just change a bulb. Engineers constantly going backwards. But i also know they want you to come in and spend a ton of unnecessary money
Not really easy but thanks for the video! Whoever designed this wasn’t thinking straight 🙄
I’ve always found changing headlight bulbs is hit and miss some are simple to change.....while others are a nightmare 🤬
@@Kyle-xt8ip i was replaced both it didn’t take me no more than 40 minutes. But you’re right tough angles and it’s horrible on space clearance
Thank You 🤝
Thanks !! 😄
Thank you
It's so quick and easy, you weren't even able to do it on camera. Smh. It's not that quick nor easy. So how do you get the band back on, with the tabs.... ?
Thank u so much
Right side is hell if you have a trackhawk. Just take it to a mechanic.
TY!!!!!
$300.00 for a light bulb!
차를 개 줮같이 만들어서 리이트 전구 하나 교환하는데 미쳐버릴거 같다.
이게 뭐냐 진짜.
개짜증나네 그랜드체로크
And so the blinkers in the same spot or does it have screws
