      Jeep could have made things a lot easier with a slightly longer cord & a slightly larger opening.
      I had the hardest time getting the bulb back in. Finally figured it out with the old bulb. Had to slide it in at a slight angle to get one side past the metal fins, then slightly straighten and it almost felt like it snapped in.
      Once I got it a couple of times it was easy.
      Passenger side was easier - did that side first.

    Super helpful video man, and as others said the pics of the “clips” (really levers I think) were great. I used it to do the Passenger side.
    I’ll summarize my tips taking some of what others have said below and my own experience.
    As you look out ahead of the car, the clip on the right of the bulb needs to be rotated UP and the clip on the left of the bulb needs to be rotated DOWN to be counterclockwise.
    The whole assembly rotates a little, and moving it to and fro allows more room for your fingers to access and push the clips in the necessary direction to unlock them.
    When installing the new HID light bulb rotate the assembly so it faces straight ahead before doing so. If you don’t, you will struggle mightily trying to insert the bulb in and get it seated.
    When tightening the clips back, it’s the reverse, right side goes DOWN and left side goes UP.
    Last tip, put a bandaid on the outer part of your Left thumb and knuckle on your hand of your wedding ring finger. Then put your rubber glove on. :-) It might save a few scrapes.
    Thanks again for the great photography and video.

    Good sir, this video saved me over $800!!! The dealership wanted $300 for the bulb and 2.5h of labor to change the bulb. I found the bulb online for $60 and did it myself in less than 15m. Even for a super novice tinkerer, this was soooo easy with your video.

    I am very pleased with the quality of your video and your clear explanation of all the steps! Took me about 45 minutes to replace mine. I did run into a frustration when it came to installing the HID. I did not realize that the whole assembly actually moves! It had shifted on me possibly at the time when I went looking for the counter clockwise clip. So, I was attempting to seat the lamp at the wrong angle. I accidently discovered that I could manually re-center the assembly manually. Once I had it back in it's original position, the bulb sat right into place. Another clue is that you can no longer reach the clip closest to the fender well because the assembly has shifted far enough to where you can't get your fingers between the bulb and the assembly.
    FIVE STARS for you!

    • @JeepHemiLyfe
      @JeepHemiLyfe 9 месяцев назад

      Can you please explain how you recentered? I believe I messed up my headlight when installing. There’s this little reflector in the middle of my HID housing that seems to be stopping the light from shining outward. Was that the part that was inhibiting your headlight from shining as well?

    • @GeorgeLopezEP
      @GeorgeLopezEP 9 месяцев назад +1

      The HID housing is apparently motor driven to re level after starting the vehicle. (just a guess) So, all I did was grab the housing and pulled on it toward the center of the vehicle. It started to move! @@JeepHemiLyfe

      I just peeked into my headlights from outside looking in (off) and do see the horizontal metal you describe. I also see what appears to be the hid bulb above that metal. I compare the left and right side and they both look similar. The lights do work fine. I placed my jeep in front of my garage wall, where I can see how the headlights project. I turn the car on, the headlights auto level, then they appear to have the same horizontal line across the top of each beam. I then turn the steering wheel and the beams follow the direction of the wheel. I recommend you peer into your headlight and compare the good with the questionable one. (lights turned off of course). @@JeepHemiLyfe

    Thank you so much for this video! As others have said below, this is the only one that explains how to do the HID version and shows what exactly you have to do to get the bulb out. The up close video of the twisting lock mechanism with the tabs was invaluable. The view after you had taken the bulb out was super helpful as you can actually see the part you need to twist. I don’t think I would have finished this job without it, but after seeing that portion of the video, I did this whole task in about 15 minutes. Getting the new bulb in is quite challenging, but as long as you are gentle and patient, it does go back in there. It was harder with my big ass hands but I got it eventually. Thank you again!

    The only thing I would add is putting bandaids on the back of both hands below the thumb and above the wrist. Because there is a need for using latex gloves you don't have much protection. Being able to shrink your hands would help! I saw one site that said to push in and rotate counterclockwise to remove the bulb. I used all my hand strength and could not remove the bulb. I went to Jeep and showed them that I did have bulbs, for my nieces Grand Cherokee 2017, low light. They said you have to remove the bumper and that it would cost between $300 - $450. Since I've worked on different vehicles through the years it did not make sense that the bumper had to be removed. Why would they create a portal in the wheelwell if the bumper had to be removed. So I went to Christian Brothers that work on cars and they quoted $275 because the bumper had to be removed. Fortunately for my niece I finally found a pictorial description of what needs to be done. The locking rings were hiding ...not in plain site... but where I could feel them. I followed the directions and my niece saved hundreds of dollars and I saved my sanity and...ego. Thanks muchly.

    My headlight failed in the same way, flickered, and was turning an off-white color. I went to the dealer expecting it to be a specialty light. They wanted to sell me a $450 bulb... looked a little harder and got one at the regular auto parts store for $140. It looks the same as my other light.
